What a sweet and passionate guy. He had an amazing setup and I love that he could fit a composting toilet in the van! Absolutely incredible. Perfect use of space and fantastic add ons!
You've put much work & innovation into this van makeover! And l especially love the bright & cheery additions of pretty faerie lights, tie-dye & inspirational little flags!! And omg!😮l bet there are Jeeps out there who can't climb a mountain like this 'mountain monster'! WOW that is impressive!!👍🏻👏🏻🤝🏻 More than just a simple little van for driving, it's a Home AND a real machine! Well 👍🏻Done!😄🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦
What I love about this guy is how he is such a tech geek on one hand - so into the gadgets and the cool stuff the van can do, but then there is the psychedelic hippy side with the tie-dyed ceiling and the colored lights!
You (or whoever is flying it) are getting better and better with those drones, loving the aerial footage. Also the access you give us to all these different types of tiny house living is wonderful.
Nice car! Nice video. I really like your channel and you seem to be a very kind person,no wonder the people open up their minds and after that their homes for you! Greetings from Germany!
Thank-you for your lovely comment. I'm really glad you enjoy the videos! A big hello to you over there in Germany. I actually lived in Germany for a year (in Aachen). I hope to be able to visit the country again soon.
+Living Big In A Tiny House . Ha. As I lived 1 Year in New Zealand. Blenheim, most of the time. When i finished my " little " projects i will invite you to your thing here in Germany.
Nice one! Blenheim is such a nice area. I love the South Island and would love to be able to spend more time down there. Yes please! It would be amazing to film some videos in Germany!
Really enjoyable look at what John's accomplished. It's always interesting to see the choices people make regarding the essential things they need and where and how they place those things in a van.
That way of living is ideal for free spirit persons. I wanted to experience the way of life in the last part of my life journey for well over 20 years but too many obstacles stopped me. I like what I have seen. I admire your freedom.
He's put a lot of thought and effort into getting that van setup like that, the only thing I don't like is the lack of space to lounge around in, but I don't think he had the intention to just sit around relaxing in it, it's a van to have adventures in.
I can always see Mitsubishi Delicas like those here in our country and I've always thought about its potential as a go anywhere RV. First time in RUclips someone like you sir have finally made a proper setup for that vehicle. Very well done it's a true sleeper and it's even more fantastic with all the little simple things with great functionality that you've done inside. Sir, I hope your van can last for more years :)
Oh actually one other person did a Delica like this before me. You can see it here.. dinoevo.de I was inspired by them as I saw this van for real in South America in the Chilean Patagonia region.
Thanks mate.. when you have small spaces like this you need to design the interior and think "3 dimensionally" in order to maximise every square inch of space.. Cheers!
traveled newzealand, 1 month for both islands, with a rented minivan myself (not even close to this level of functionality of course, decent but still stock renting kind) i think this 4x4 miniwonder is the best vehicle any traveller could wish for in such a country! superb vehicle and nice guy! i also enjoyed a lot the video and subscribed for more, cheers!
Thanks for your good words! Everywhere I go with my "apocalypse van", people always come up to and chat. I'd hope it's because I seem like a nice guy.. LOL!
Awesome :) All it needs is a tent that can be attached to the back, for a bit of extra room when parked, oh and a short wave radio, and ... actually, I think he's got everything else covered. Good job. Wish I'd seen that metal plate he was talking about under the engine base.
I have a waterproof UHF short wave radio (5watts) & fully functional GPS until all in one. Its shown in the video on my dash bard. As for the tent, I thought of that, but the cost to modify this was too much for the actual return on investment. I have a 4 season Mountain Hardware tent stored inside for nice nights. Check out my blog for more details on the design.. 420van.blogspot.com
this is insane man what a perfectly done job the sliding out boards and stuff are sick as all fits in perfectly he's done such a good job for such a small area surprised man excellent video thank you
hey man, besides the awesome van, i really want to compliment your growth as a presenter and filmer! The quality and camera angles are getting more and more amazing. Your movies and instagram posts are a delight to watch! Many thanks from a Dutchie
Thank-you so much! That's awesome of you to say. I've really enjoyed the whole process of creating the show, and the opportunities that I've had to grow alongside it. Thanks for watching! :)
I love that in this highly functional vehicle, he found room for some flimsy things, like the lights, the rainbow fabric in the ceiling, a tiny disco ball and a bookshelf.
his very humble "its kind of a wolf in sheep's clothing i guess" yeah lol you can say that again, watching it drive right over and thru all that terrain was awesome haha
The pop up idea is very good and I thought of that, but because I wanted a large solar panel, roof basket and the fact this a SWB (short wheel base) makes that not possible. There's a game of give & take I suppose eh? 👍🤓
my mate bought one those ,within first hour he managed to drown it in the river , had the water up over the windscreen , meanwhile the stock air filters right behind the front wheel , it sucked water but we still managed to drive it home , great modification
I've been binge watching your videos for years. I'm just hoping such things would pick up soon in my side of the world as well, here in India. We do have a caravan rental company, Trippy Wheels set up in the city of Bangalore and I can't wait to try out an adventure trip with my girls on that one. We'd hopefully camp around the Agumbe rainforest in the post pandemic world. ✨
My Dad had a L300 when I was a teenager. I miss it, so square which was perfect for a camper and conversions. Now he needs to convert it to an EV and be fully (well mostly) independent. Solar is freedom!
cool van , well thought out! too small for my taste but I see the value in such a compact vehicle for sure especially if shit hit the fan, the more compact and minimal you can be the better. my 8,000 pound beast couldn't go half the places this thing could squeak into and hide out. These guys seem like pretty cool dudes as well! thanks for making the video.
Good setup. Trick. He needs a winch on the front and rear. As long as you can hook onto something or backup he would never be stuck. I'm Canadian from Ontario. Here in Ontario especially in the snow belts off of the Great Lakes we get a shit load of snow. Being from Lucan and London you can go to bed with maybe an inch or two of snow on the ground and wake up with 4,5,6 feet of snow outside. That's a meter or two for my NZ or Aussi cousins. I still have to put it in Imperial terms for the Yanks right the river from here. A water tank that can hold a few days of potable water that can be pressurized from the tap of water at refilling or turn on your water pump and/or a small compressor. A small water recovery system that can collect moisture from the air with an applicable filtration system. A small stainless steel double sink. Several small wind generators that can recharge his batteries any time of day. Being close to water has the highest average wind speeds.
I looked into a winch system as you say, but the added cost meant heaps more. Also, I would've have seriously retrofit the chassis to do that. Considering the amount of cash I put into this beast already, it's something that might come in the future, but I'd have to create a new custom bull bar from scratch in order to accommodate both the LED light bar and a winch. For now, I have Maxx Traxx and an 11,000kg ARB snatch strap. The best way to avoid trouble is to have thr foresight to see it coming in advance. :)

We had a van like this before. You can buy one for 4000-6000 dollars. Right hand drive of course but we convert it to left hand. Problem is you cant convert the rear sliding door to the right so you might as well live with it. Opening directly into traffic lol
Haha im a Kiwi from Christchurch living in Melbs, and i coulda sworn you were Canadian? ;) .. saw the Trebble cone sticker too good shit, & i loved the disco lights & psychedelic decor- be a sweet rig for festivals and such (i laughed when he said acid test? ;) ... only one thing your missing and thats a freeride mtb on the back, haha.. Enjoy bro.. P :)
I am blown away by the creative use of space in this van. I want one.

Thank you for those good words . :)
this guy probably has the highest score on Tetris;-) great setup, so cool.
Not quite, but I do work as an engineer though. Funny you mentioned Tetris as that is one of my favourite all time games.
Much thanks! Glad you like it!
Sadly, the guy who has the highest score as of last year is a teenage kid. Playing a game way older than him. Sigh. But it was a great competition!

If you're over it you can always BnB for a little bit.
Otherwise, the world's your backyard :)
becouse it is really small van. It is tiny very light van created for off road. But solar panel? huge battery? water tanks? that a lot of weight ;(
thats a nice set up for such a small van
Bug out vehicles UK Torn Apart self sufficiency. I
I love how excited he is about his van! He just wants to show you all of it and really loves it.

This is a awesome video. I love what John did with his survival van. Big ups to him. Want to see his tiny home update.
I know many people living in vans and have seen many different builds. This is by far the best design.
ikr?!

What an impressive vehicle and designer. I love the idea of storage in the curtain. Lots of great ideas in this build. Thanks for sharing!

Did John ever build his Tiny House? With that level of ingenuity, I’d love to see what he’d come up with.
traveled newzealand, 1 month for both islands, with a rented minivan myself (not even close to this level of functionality of course, decent but still stock renting kind)

Fully agree.. a TV show is needed for Living Big in a Tiny House!

Thank you for those nice words. Before any work was done, I thought long and hard about the design aspect and "usability" for small spaces!
What a great project, doesn't look like he forgot a thing! Thanks for the share!
Best Delica conversion video I’ve seen to date!
Thanks! Feel free to copy it and make it better!
That's EXACTLY how I'd do it! Everything contained and uncluttered.
I am looking forward to see what part two looks like; A tiny house owned by this guy would be very interesting to see! Aroha from Aotearoa
My tiny house is now having its design finalized now. Should be done by the end of this year... TBD
My tiny house is in the works and the custom design is done. The build phase is next!
Love the van! Really like the storage curtains. Great job designing and modifying it.
I love the L300! It´s the almost perfect (could do with lesser overhang in the front) BOV. This one´s just the way I would build my one. Congrats!
An epic van ... good to taste the ride too in the water

I love your videos! Always so excited when one goes up! Can't wait for more. I really enjoying your presenting style. You need your own TV show 😊
You can really take it anywhere. Sleeping right on the beach is nice.
Beach van camping is my favourite.. :)
solar is a common upgrade now in rv's and survival vehicles, its nice seeing people use solar so much
Solar is the big key that makes you fully off the grid capable. I preach solar panels to everyone who has a house, RV or van.
Not bad. Wind the front torsion suspension up, fit a set of 31x10.5s (they do fit) then chase few landcruiser out the way :)
You are amazing dude. The way you talk, its a gift. Keep it up
awesome van I'd probably add a poptop but for one person its perfect the joinery is genius
The pop up idea is very good and I thought of that, but because I wanted a large solar panel, roof basket and the fact this a SWB (short wheel base) makes that not possible. There's a game of give & take I suppose eh? 👍🤓
+skibumwa2001 .

she's a beauty...

Thanks! Yeah, I was super impressed with the use of space in this van.

you have cool Medium articles
I love it when the van can go inside terrain pond. Great campervan.
Wow, he actually has an amphibious exploring vehicle. A true golden god
Nice VAN! I really love that Delica. We have plenty of converted DElicas here in the philippines from RHD to LHD. Wish I can have a van like that....
My Dad had a L300 when I was a teenager. I miss it, so square which was perfect for a camper and conversions. Now he needs to convert it to an EV and be fully (well mostly) independent. Solar is freedom!

Neat and simple - just like design should be!
Love it. Living life on his own terms. Cool
Thanks!
Very nice work on the video, the extra shots of the van moving around were great.
Cheers Jacob! Those were lots of fun to film. :)
Whoa! Pimped to its full potential! Hot!

Vantastic!
I see what you did there ;o)
he just needs a vanity mirror
oh that was bad man hahaha nice
He needs a pair of Vans to wear while using his vantastic vanity mirror.
and he will listen to nir van a
Good use of drones. loved the video as always
Really nice. I think if you want it to be more comfortable, you can extend upwards the roof, though maybe is not the best idea for a 4x4.
No can do. With a solar panel permanently installed I can't change the roof any more than it already is.
like, I'd hate to live in that full time but holy cow that would be amazing to take some back country trips in!
awesome work. nice bugout. crossbow and all set for the zombie apocalypse
Zombie apocalypse is coming you say? Bring it on!
That man is INTELLIGENT!!!!
Good setup. Trick.

again, thanks for the amazing video. ur getting better by the episode!
Dude has a great setup there. Impressive!
That thing is AWESOME!! Well done Jon, top lad
Thanks mate. It was quite a project, but I have admit it turned out far better than I ever hoped it could..
420van ever thought about buying a big old Jaguar front seat for it?
Nope.. Don't seen any reason to upgrade the seats except adding nice armrests...
Wow! This is a fantastic Van..so much storage!
This is absolutely amazing!! Thank you for sharing it with us!
Excellent choice!! Comfortable, affordable 4wd go anywhere, furnished vehicle 👌👌👍👍
Your content is extremely good, you deserve your sub base.
I love all your stuffs, especially hanging Buddhist prayer flag !! you will be safe journey all time, great 👍
Gah now I really gotta get one! What I nice story put together there. Thanks so much.
I ain't gonna lie...that was cool!
this is one of the best tiny homes, that DOESN'T have an indoor ski slope, that I've seen
Love those LED lights!
Thank you SO much for sharing this video with us!
Great video! Excellent van! Can't wait to go camping in it. :-P Super job with the woodwork and the disco lights are groovy! Where's the gun rack? ;-) Nice camera and drone work too. Cheers!
Haha - do you need a hall pass to join? LOL
Damn, I always liked those Mitsubishi Delica cars, and other similar japanese vans. I hope I will get one some time
Cool van, I wish we have some cool 4wd vehicle option in USA like the rest of the world.
The content keeps on getting better and better! Keep up the good work :)

+Living Big In A Tiny House ..Always Welcome coz your video is very inspiring to us!!!Thank you
We had a van like this before. You can buy one for 4000-6000 dollars. Right hand drive of course but we convert it to left hand. Problem is you cant convert the rear sliding door to the right so you might as well live with it. Opening directly into traffic lol
Great design for such a small van!
Awesome use of space management. Some neat features as well.
Thanks for the share :)
Yup. I was really impressed with his use of space in this van!
Love this thing, the inside was well planned!
Cheers
love it. Delica's are great for this kind of thing
Agree 200% -- Delica's rule..
Awesome setup👍spotted this in front of me at a traffic light the other day.
great use of small space
Wowww..... He's so innovative
Awesome build, awesome channel, need more tiny car living
What a beautiful van !
Cheers mate! Glad you like it!
Oh my god, was that a seal? An actual living seal? It is so adorable!
It sure was! It's super rare to see them in Auckland (where I live), but further south in Wellington they're quite common. Such lovely animals!
Love this show so much
Awesome Van...Love it
Awesome! An American in paradise! That was fun ;b
