"The Christian is not the result of persuasion, but of power" St Ignasius of Antioch (from a letter he wrote as he was on his way to be martyred for Christ)
Anything that we might need now, whatever its label, would be characterized first, foremost, and lastingly by personal repentance that is so gripping and overwhelming that we cease to care what the rest of it looks like, or what else is happening around us.
@@horrificpleasantry9474 Somehow I don't think "personal repentance that is so gripping and overwhelming that we cease to care what the rest of it looks like, or what else is happening around us" sounds very exciting. True repentance would be recognizing that one is a sinner, scum, a terrible person and an enemy of your creator. That sort of repentance is not exciting. But the typical "God loves you just as you are, just repeat this magic prayer and be qualified for heaven regardless of repentance" that's sold by most churches these days can certainly be very exciting. And not life changing. Which is why they need a revival every year.
Praise the Lord for these truths! I remember reading about a group of people caught between a rock and a hard place with an army bearing down on them and a large body of water before them... BUT God...
A pastor from Syria said: "we prayed for revival, and the war came. Then revival came." He said there were so many new converts it was difficult to stop false teaching from spreading because there were not enough people to disciple them.
Thank you for this. As a pastor I see the problems you speak of and agree 100%. The problem I have is trying to make the necessary changes. I have spoken out about what I see and called for hearts to be turned to God. The problem is I am a product of half heartedness myself. So how can a halfhearted pastor lead halfhearted people to wholeheartedly turn to God? May God forgive us.
As A.W. Tozer once wrote, the fact that you grieve your halfheartedness is a good sign that God is ready to do something in you. That statement has given me encouragement in the most despondent times of my life.
Read anything from E.M. Bounds, even quotes online. he has written extensively about how earnest prayer must go before earnest and effectual preaching.
we are living in a society that can't discern between boy and girl and worships the trees (see: Romans 1). Not really convinced a revival, reformation or awakening is even possible at this point. Seems to me a more accurate assessment of our time is a proverbial separating of the 'wheat and tares'. The true and faithful are becoming more true and faithful and the rest, well, are not.
Please raise the recorded volume on your videos. I have a great audio system in my phone but all your videos are at a whisper even when my volume is maxed. Super frustrating.
Restitution only at retail stores? How about at work, where people would stay long hours to make up time they had stolen. Or the influx of tithes and offerings, since we have stolen from God...
According to A.W. Pink a revival is not a zealous enthusiasm or overfilled churches but a constant desire for people especially Christians to come back to the word of God. Read and expound on the scripture and not what televangelist say!
The Bible says a revival looks like Malachi 5:6, where "the heat of the fathers to their sons and their fathers to their sons". Until then, please don't tell me about people barking or gold dust
I'm just saying my take away from Finney was not a system but, as Tozer also said, conditions for the filling of the spirit. You have to be hungry. You have to pray. You have to repent. No more system than what is Biblical. At least that I got out of it a couple years ago. God is ready to pour out revival, but is waiting on his church to actually want it.
Wooo Hooo! Give me that old time revival!!! Like the revival during the civil war!!! Right? When Jeebus comin' back? We're all post millennials now! Just read the book! All the prophesies done fell thru! Jeebus... I will be back sooooooonnnnnnn.
haha "the Holy Spirit's booking agent" they don't believe in the Holy Spirit. they believe God himself under their direct control to appear and manifest whenever they desire. this isn't the Holy Spirit

“Vival”… that’s what we’re working toward in our little mixed-bag church. Catching those recovering fish, and introducing them to Jesus. It’s a start.
Very Encouraging!!🥳🤗❤️🛐☮️
Oh how badly do we need a revival right now as Pastor Doug has described it. Come Lord Jesus! Maranatha!
Let it come!
Concisely brings truth that moves people
Thanks again
Excellent!!
Good teaching.
I've wondered the same thing about the "Revival" signs--but as usual, Doug puts it better than I have.
Thank you so much.

What a beautiful quote

False. This is the excitement Doug spoke of the true church discouraging

Wow! Can you point me where I can read more about this?
Amen! Come Holy Spirit!

Amen! Preach it brother Doug! 2nd Chron. 7:14.
I like Doug Wilson but i have to play him at a slower speed because he's a bit to fast and English is my second language. 🙃😄
English is my first language, and I agree with you! 😂
He can be a bit difficult even if English is your first! But always worth the effort.
Revival depends on the Spirit of Holiness convicting of sin, leading to Repentance, which means obedience to God’s law.
Revival starts with me and repentance...
Daily revival: can I improve on my efforts to SEEK GOD? YES!
I'm glad I'm in the CREC.
What does that stand for? I've been hearing a lot about it lately.
@@rockycomet4587 Christians for the ethical removal of communists.. just kidding. It's a denomination. Communinal reformed evangelical church.

I think Tozer, whom you quoted, would disagree with you about Finney.

a good book on revival is "Revival" by Richard Owen Roberts
5:50 "It is simply 'vival' if we want to speak that way." Then let's speak that way.
Please raise the recorded volume on your videos. I have a great audio system in my phone but all your videos are at a whisper even when my volume is maxed. Super frustrating.
Thank you for revealing Covid asininity.
Wait. God doesn't have to send revival when we schedule it? No way!
