    They won’t get rid of the manual wind in the speedmaster professional. That would be like Rolex removing the rotating bezel on the submariner.

    The small crown and manual wind has been a show stopper for many potential customers over the years. If a watch is manual wind, it is greatly helpful to have a power reserve on the display, it is always a winning feature. A proper 48 hours power reserve is a minimum really, if they increase the power reserve to 72 hours that would be great.

    Ok so its currently January 26 @10AM EST and 4:09PM in Geneva... I don't see an announcement on the Omega web site... any idea when this will be announced?

    Hi James, do you know when will Omega release the 2023 novelties?

    I doubt they’ll mess with the manual movement - it’s what the Moonwatch is all about .. The new manual movement in the new 57 doesn’t look anywhere as nice either.
    I think they’ll re-do the ‘Racing’ models -make them 41/42’ maybe and update that movement instead maybe ?
    The 3861 is only a couple of years old and with metas etc - its a brilliant watch and the Racing watch update would make sense for the ‘non purists’ as you’ve suggested ?

    You have my condolences on the hacking seconds hand on the 3861. Omega’s CEO spoke of an innovation coming so just putting the silicon hairspring in a movement they are having trouble making (321) in quantities seems unlikely. It’s not an innovation. The main spring is how you get long power reserve, not the hair spring. If they’re changing the beat rate, then showing a hair spring is relevant. You don’t need screw down crowns to get 100 m resistance. The 50th anniversary speedy didn’t have one and was 100 m (it was a 28,800 VPH movement, Calibre 3201). The 38mm speedy is too and no screw down. If the 3201 with metas is in the cards I won’t refuse to buy one (over $10k for sure).

      Thank you, that’s interesting and useful to know. Whichever way it goes they have got us talking. This part of the hobby is what I love, but then the anticlimax follows 😂

      @bbrebozo6417 Год назад

      If omega slowed the 3201 from 4 Hz to 3 Hz they might increase the power reserve. In an ETA doing this can double it to ~80h.

    IMO a modified 321 doesn‘t make any sense as it would go against the very idea of reproducing that historical caliber. Also would they just split the 321 workshop in two and manufacture two different variations of it 🤔

    Well, we're moments away from the announcement, but I'll give my guess.
    I don't think it's going to be a Speedmaster Professional model. The 3861 just came out.
    The sneak peak has sedna gold in it.
    Also has a hexagon shape.
    So presumably, it's a carbon, antimagnetic hairspring (like Tag Autavia). Omega's patent just expired for the Silicon hairspring.
    So, wild guess is a Sedna Gold Speedmaster Racing, with Ceramic Bezel, automatic movement using a carbon hairspring. We'll find out in a few hours!

  • @AndrewBednoff
    @AndrewBednoff Год назад

    I guess the new Omega's balance spring could be made of carbon or graphene antimagnetic matherial, and this will be the same approach that TagHeuer made in its Autavia series with Isograph balance spring, but Isograph wasn't successful due to longevity and reliability issues, and fragility in real life everyday wearing, and here I suppose, that Omega has the success in this direction and invented new, more reliable carbon based material, which can be even more flexible/elastic and durable, than silicone balance spring. That's my prediction. And if so, this would be a ground breaking technology, which can potentially give the precision of ±1 second per day.

    Screw down crowns on most watches (including Rolex), don't offer any extra water resistance i.e. the water resistance on an Explorer 1 is 100m with or without the crown screwed in. Screw down crowns guard against accidental activation/operation, that's about it. There are plenty of manual wind watches on the market with 100m water resistance.

    Great Video! I’m hoping they use the bracelet and case from the Speedy 57 (40.5mm) also hoping for a ceramic bezel

    James - the release isn’t coming on a Tuesday. It’s being released on January 26 - which is a Thursday. However, I don’t think that throws off your theory - I think it strengthens it. NASA is honouring Ed White and the Apollo 1 crew on that very day. So, it makes sense that Omega would release some sort of watch related to Ed White on that day - an updated or entirely new 321.

  • @m.e.p.r
    @m.e.p.r Год назад

    I think it will be just be an improved power reserve, 70hrs perhaps. I don't think Omega will change too much, certainly not an automatic in the Professional line.
    Also, you can wear the new Speedmasters swimming, I wear mine in the pool all the time. Omega state that a modern Speedmaster with 50m resistance is perfect for the swimmingpool. This hang-up on 100m is laughable and just goes to show that people don't really understand water resistance or understand their watches capabilities.

    Maybe your guy said 3201 and you heard 321? Or maybe he confused the two calibres? The 3201 was not automatic it was a column wheel & vertical clutch (a proper match for the Daytona). The 50th also had a very nice dial, black enamel (that was the biggest tour de force in that limited edition piece).

      It’s actually a lady who gives me some insider info that she gets from an Omega rep who gets it direct from Switzerland. So a little bit of Chinese whispers but she’s got a few predictions correct. More right than wrong any way

      Note: I’m not talking about the 50th with the hippocampus powered by the 1861). The nice 50th was the one with the xxx/1957 on that black enamel dial).

      If it is a metas 3201 derivative then it will be a rarer watch vs the plain vanilla speedy, but it will be a +$10k watch. More a collector watch than a mass market watch.

    Can't see them doing that.. The Speedy Pro is manual wind for a reason, no gravity in space... Put an auto in the 57 That isn't too fat, screw down crown etc, I'm first in the queue 😊

    Caliber 321 ist not accurate enough from its design to meet METAS.
    3861 or 99xxx caliber will be the base.
    Innovation will be within the material technology.
    Accuracy, wear and power reserve should be the KPIs
