I didn't know Mitchell's was no longer in business. I guess the good ole days of cheap imports have been over for awhile now. I myself stopped collecting several years ago. But God I miss those days. I would always look in books and get some limited information on each firearm I got. But that was about it. I'm loving these in depth history lessons that I get from this channel. Sadly my retention of information isn't what it used to be,so I guess I'll just revisit often. Thanks.
I have a modest WW2 ish collection. I enjoy the bolt guns. I understand their utility, hunting mule deer and elk for years with a 60’s Remington 700. As always I enjoy your historical information and practical advice.
I've got two of these. At the time I bought them I thought they were expensive...but I'm happy with them overall. I'll be doing a review of the Mitchell's M48 on my channel~
@@misha5670 Maybe you have an answer, being so knowledgeable, Misha. About 15-20 years ago I had a Yugo M48, looked exactly like the one you're holding. BUT... it was "scrubbed." Not literally, but no crest, no serial numbers stamped on it. Just, on some parts,. that little Yugo arsenal mark. What did I have? Unfortunately, I no longer have it.
Thank you for the video and sharing your perspective. I have an early 1950's M48 - 4-digit serial number and an error on the date in the crest ("29X1943" instead of "29XI1943"). I suppose they eventually found the error and fixed it. That mine has the error makes me think it's a very early M48. I bought mine from a sporting goods store in 2023, but it was in a Mitchell's box and was full of cosmoline - I don't think it was ever fired after it left Yugoslavia. No other goodies in the box.
Looks a bit too brand new for my taste. Yet all the included accessories are really cool. I had to piece all my stuff together. Cleaning kit from this dealer, ammo pouch from another one, and so on. Still missing a sling, though. An nice additional detail is that Yugoslavia not only built the German Kar98 style bayonet, with the edge at the bottom of the blade when mounted (cutting downward), but also the correct Czechoslovakian variant (edge on top for cutting upward) for their M24/52-Č rifles.
@@jason200912 I never said I bought it. I'm talking about the gun in the video. What I bought is a slightly used looking M24/52-Č. You can calm down now.
Man, those Mitchell's rifles were very nice guns. A little Shady with the marketing, i bought one thinking I was getting some sort of Kar98k. Indidnt know better, but it was a very nice rifle and extremely well built. I rraded it off for something stupid. That said just won a Cherry's import on GB in about the same condition my old Mitchell's gun was in for 500. As a Zastava Fan Boy it's nice to have one back in the fold.
SOG - Southern Ohio Guns sold them too.... Not to long ago $ 289.00 shipped to my FFL.... Brand new rifles in Yugo cosmoline love the smell, lol... with all the goodies.... Ahh the Trump years.... Miss them.... SGAmmo sold 7.62x39 thousand round cases for $189.00....Golden Tiger boat-tails.... Just keeps getting worse with the current Administration.. smh.
Nothing to do with the administration. Its time my man. Older you get and the more surplus you see come in and then sell out, you'll see prices go up and up. When it comes to imports, the last major change was in 2005 when the so-called 'barrel ban' went into effect. Now infllation definitely plays a role too, but that's nearly a globel problem.
I have an M48-A. It is still new, but cleanest cosmoline free by me. Bought it along with hundreds of rounds of 8mm some in loose boxes and the spam can for just a few hundred dollars. I love this old timer.
I bought a MM K98 from a gun show for 299$ years ago for just the gun no accessories. It was a 1944 DOU marked late war K98 with Russian Capture X's. The bolt is in the white and it is all matching except for the front barrel band. The stock and metal appear to be refinished when compared to authentic bring back K98's. Im not sure if these guns were refinished post war or by Michelle's as the internet claims either way they make great shooters.
I have one of these MM M48s. On mine the stock looks so light because MM sanded the stock just enough to remove some of the stamps in the wood. I have a half a dozen of these M48s (A, B, BO, etc.) and the stocks are typically dark. The only one I have that is light like this is my MM. Still a nice rifle but you can see when comparing it to the unmolested rifles that the butt plate and bolt have been pretty highly polished. The wood was not sanded enough to make any of the hardware stand proud but just enough that it blurred the stamps so that they cannot be read. It is a very pretty rifle and I have gotten a lot of complements on it, but I don't consider it to be in original condition due to the sanding of the stock.
I've seen Mitchell's M76 import sold for little over 7000 dollars a few years ago. For those who don't know, M76 is an 8mm Mauser Kalashnikov Action in semi auto only.
I had one just like it that I bought from Centerfire systems, Unissued with Bayonet sling and mag pouches. Wish I had kept the rifle, it shot great and I think I paid 150 for it.
I ordered mine in 03 collector grade . It’s brand new , so is bayonet slick action no wear on anything. It’s as if I got on a Time Machine and traveled to WW2 and got it .very accurate, not knocking this man’s rifle but the one I have is much better condition. That’s a beautiful rifle. I’ve always loved Mausers. Unfortunately, I only own one right now, my M24/47. Nothing special, but it sure is a great shooter. And the straight bolt is nice for God’s mistakes like me (lefties.)
Local gun store around me where I got myself a Yugo m48, for a bit of a hefty price. Was selling an M48A for about 1200 bucks, which is also a Mitchell's Mauser, which to me, sounds heinous.
Thank you for making this video, I’ve never understood why people hate these. So one thing I’m not sure of, is that stock original and it’s just preserve that well or was it refinished. Sidenote, I really wanna purchase something like this, I wonder if I could find a unopened box on GunBroker
@@HircineDaWolf This and they were modifying M48's with Waffen stamps and trying to pass them off as genuine German Mausers to the uninformed while charging a premium for it. Scummy business practice all around.

Didn't Mitchell's fake alot of their guns? Pistols and rifles. They got caught putting fake cartushes and they force matched parts for a higher selling price?
They were notorious for trying to pass off Yugo M48s as Nazi K98s. They would put a scope on a standard K98 and claim it was an original sniper rifle. They even took old original rifles and sanded the wood and reblued the steel to make them look "pristine" Anything German WWII related from Mitchell's Mausers is most likely a fugazi.
Yep the messed up lots of German k98’s. These aren’t a concern since tens of thousands were made just to be stored away for ww3 by zastava. These are all legit.

Mitchell is an interesting fellow. Stainless Lugers, Teak Ak47's, et al.
A MM Yugo M48A “collector grade” was my first rifle at 16 y/o back in 2006 from Dunhams. Absolutely loved that rifle.

breaking news, they just discovered a secret warehouse full of mauser rifles. Order fast while supplies last .
Where
@jason200912 lol, this a reference to Mitchell Mausers ads that used to be in the American Rifleman magazine back in the early 2000s
