    Great video highlighting a part of the minefield that is looking for a K98k. I recall an infamous example on Reddit where someone paid $3k for a MM only to be "educated" on it after the fact. Fortunately the guy was able to get his money back.

      I paid $250 for mine 10 years ago. It's a Yugo captured Kar98K with the Yugo crest. Arguably the least desirable 98k and some people don't even consider them German mausers even though they definitely were made in Germany. 3k for just about any K98 is absurd and that guy must have been a idiot with deep pockets. I would say 1k is even a stretch, they used to be a dime a dozen like Mosins at one point. I'm satisfied with what I have, it still scratches the same itch.

    The Russian Capture always gets looked down upon. However, the RC is a piece of history. It is the history when Russia started defeating the Germans in WW2. I think the value of these RC’s will appreciate in the future even more.

    Good quick review and right on target, no pun intended. As long as the buyer is aware of what they're buying and willing to pay a reasonable price for a nice looking shooter they're just fine.

    I'll always regret only buying one RCK98. I got mine from Wideners back around 2014 and they were $400. I remember people talking back then about how they wouldn't appreciate much in value.....yeah that was false.

  • @kurisudoggie
    @kurisudoggie Год назад

    I thought most of Mitchells mausers were Yugo M48 variants. I have come across a Mitchells mauser that was scrubbed of its Yugo crest and had german waffenampts and BYF 44 stamped on it. I typeface of the BYF and 44 seemed wrong, and it had the polished in the white bolt that didnt have any markings on it. The gun shop that was selling it wanted 1200 for it :P

      You thought??? Well they aren't and many are not Yugo so wouldn't have a Yugo stamp

    • @Toolness1
      @Toolness1 5 месяцев назад +1

      They vaguely made it sound like M48s were WWII Mausers in their ads and sold a lot of them, but left the Yugo markings. They also took a lot of RC K98s and pimped them up, refinished the metal and wood, and faked markings that were scrubbed by the Russians. They even faked SS death head markings on some.
      I've never heard of them trying to redo a M48 to look like a K98 though, that's wild if they did. It would take a lot of work. The stocks can't interchange between a K98 and a M48, and it wouldn't be easy to make a Yugo look like a K98 stock. The bolts/receivers are shorter on the Yugo, bolt knobs are different and bolts are bent at a different angle. The rifles are a different overall length. Are you sure it wasn't one of the German K98s that went to Yugoslavia and was reworked with a Yugo crest, scrubbed of German markings, then Mitchell's modified that to have German markings again?

    • @hobofactory
      @hobofactory  8 месяцев назад +1

      You’re quite right on that, but it’s important to not get ripped off. The several hundred dollar difference between a “collector grade” K98 and shooter-grade K98 could buy ya a lot of ammo.

    30-06 is too powerful for the shortened "tanker" Mauser. I've seen it being fired on RUclips and the kick is very strong. The .308 would have been more appropriate. Using the 7.62 x 39mm would have been even better. The "tanker" Mauser is not a true historical Mauser but a modern construct but still would be interesting to own as a curio.

    • @hobofactory
      @hobofactory  Год назад

      I’d certainly shoot mine a lot more if it were in 7.62x39. It’s not so much the recoil that bothers me as the ammo prices for 30-06. I’d bet it would’ve been more commercially successful in x39 as well.

BTW, some of the originals come in with shiny bolts, that is because the alloy steel used by by the Germans in Oberstdorf was un-blueible for awhile. You can research that.
