@@wkjeom Yes, but what the OP is describing is his account of what happened, the point being that even if we believe his story it still seems like premeditated murder. Personally I think the motive was pretty clear: Erin wanted them to be together and she had gotten pregnant with his child. He told her he would leave his wife. He was too much of a coward to leave his wife so to get rid of the problem, he took her out into the desert, promising her a day out and a nice surprise, and murdered her.

Looks like Chris' Defence team didn't bother dragging in his wife or daughter to back up the molestation claims. Which basically amounts to saying "my client is talking total BS".
Isn't enough to murder someone instead of turning around and accusing them of all sorts of heinous acts that they know never happened? Extra flames in hell for all those who murder someone and then accuse them of abuse.
@TheMrCaptainStfu I agree, cheating on a spouse that is honest and truthful is very wrong....Cheating period mostly never ends well....Wished ppl. would think about this before they cheat, never underestimate who you dealing with.
@TheMrCaptainStfu this is not a normal thought… if you are angry enough to feel that murder of women is justified by their behavior when they were alive, then i worry very much about the people in your life.
@TheMrCaptainStfu I agree with you 💯 unfortunately some women lack common sense and dignity, I would bet my life savings he killed her because she was obsessed with him and threatened to ruin his current marriage situation..
@TheMrCaptainStfu You don't sound like a mentally stable person. No one deserves to die for cheating. It's not a good thing to do by a long shot but saying her and her child deserved it is fucking deplorable and makes you look like an extremely shitty person.
What really *TICKED* me off was how Chris was able to drag Erin’s name through the mud by calling her a child molester when she couldn’t even defend herself. I think that part of his testimony should have been stricken from the record as hear say. Also, when he said, “you don’t get to love Liberty. She’s not yours to love”. (That whole part of his testimony) It made me think how *STUPID* that sounded because step parents love their step kids like their own etc. So why couldn’t she love her! I don’t know. This guys whole “testimony” just angered me. It was like he was trying to use every excuse possible as to why he killed her when we ALL know he killed her because she was pregnant and he didn’t want his wife to find out (regardless of the fact that she obviously found out afterwards.)
That angered me too. Apparently you can't have "any kind of emotional attachment" for your best friend/lover's child who you babysit regularly? Maybe Chris is only capable of caring about people who belong to him. That would explain why he's a murderer. Meanwhile in the rest of humanity, it's pretty darn normal to develop emotional attachments to kids you care for. It'd be weird if you didn't.
Tina, even the living who are slandered as such cannot defend themselves. People hit the OFF button of the mind when they hear this particular allegation. Criminals everywhere use this allegation to distract from their own crimes! It is the go to strategy.

I’m sure they all raised their hands for his guilt in the first 10 seconds of being in the jury room, but they waited an additional 14 minutes and 50 seconds in order to make it look like they at least gave it _SOME_ contemplation lol.
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 If you have ever been on a jury, you'll know this - When you leave the court and go back the the jury room, the jury first deals with the most pressing issue. Going to the bathroom. *Everyone* has gotta go. The amount of time this takes probably varies by the makeup of the jury and how long it has been since their lunch break but it takes a good 5-15 minutes (or maybe even longer) just to handle this one issue. The next thing you do is decide on a foreperson. In my experience, that's usually decided in a couple of minutes. They probably spent like 10 minutes dealing with this first issue and getting seated around the table. Perhaps even a bit of multi-tasking and they figured out the foreperson while they where taking turns in there. Then they just held a quick vote to see where everyone stood, and spent the remaining 4 and a half minutes figuring out the paperwork. 15 minutes of deliberation is literally no debate whatsoever.

Former Twentynine Palms Marine here. Mike, you will be happy to learn that the main access road to the Marine base WAS indeed landscaped with 29 individual palm trees…
I hope Mike loves us at the end of this episode. Now that he throws “love ya” on occasion, when he does not, I worry that I’ve offended my Irish brother.
I live in the Mojave desert which is riddled with mine shafts. The fact they found Erin just boggles my mind considering there are dozens of missing persons suspected of being in mine shafts that haven't been found; some as long as 20 years. One such case, April Pitzer, has been missing nearly 20 years. Hundreds of volunteers have searched countless mineshafts and have barely scratched the surface. Erin's family should thank the angel that led searchers to her body. Twentynine Stumps (as it is called by the locals) is a toxic place. A lot of violent crime happens in and around the area. That is what happens when a Marine base is located within the meth capitol of the desert
I think they said they were searching the mine shafts systematically according to the GPS on the car and phone. Even so, the fact they'd have called off the search the next day is really disturbing. He could have got away with it without the evidence found there, and her family would never have known what happened to her.
The desert & meth. A matched pair. Spent some time over the years after n a little town called Dayton, Nevada. Meth is woven into the fabric of the desert culture. I never dabbled but it eats people alive out there. I enjoyed the desert as a kid, but was there later in life and it really does take a toll on people. Went back to Dayton one time, after years away, and as I rolled through the center of town I realized after the fact that I had blown through a stoplight. There were no stoplights in that town, but they had put one in during the years I was gone. That was depressing in a way I couldn’t quite describe.
@@chinookwinds7967 if anyone is unfamiliar with just how bad the meth problem is in the desert, the author Deanna Stillman has written stories about high profile crimes that take place in the desert. Her opening chapters include back stories of the underground life in the desert that few would understand unless they lived here. At 57 years old, I could share stories about the desert that would make life in the city look like a carnival. The only difference is people in the desert rarely talk about what goes on out here
Another true crime RUclipsr said that a woman at the horse sanctuary who had been working with Erin and Chris was the one who told the police about that specific mine shaft. Since apparently she and Chris had talked about it before Erin was killed
The excuse of "she was a child molester" or "He touched my kid inappropriately" or in whatever way it is couched, is a well worn out excuse. It is a go-to for bad actors everywhere. They hide behind the victims by smearing their names, all to get away with their own crimes. This excuse is certain to disgust others to such a degree that they forget to consider all possibilities, including the motives behind the allegations. People who make false allegations deserve the worst! 🤬
And statistically it's so unlikely that a woman is a molester (I'm not saying NEVER but statistical probability is VERY low). I wonder if the MEN that say this know that, and the odds are more likely it's them.
He also lied about the victim “confiding” in him that her husband was a woman beater. Everybody’s a cliche bad guy but the one who throttled a 20 year old and threw her down a mine shaft.

Dear copperandbrick: You are 100% correct. He'll never run out of material if he keeps pursuing such trivial cases. There are unfortunately 1000's of murders out there, but not all are interesting enough to devote a whole True Crime report to. There is no mystery or interesting twists to a story like this one. It's pretty straight forward. But as long as this Wannabe Comedian knows that the SUCKERS in the audience will bite on whatever he throws out there, why should he stop ???
“I didn’t plan to kill her.” And yet you just happened to have a garrote with you that was easily accessible and you brought her to a secluded location where you could conveniently dump the body…. Ok man, whatever you say
It’s so stupid. He just “happens” to have a propane tank and a garrote in his truck when he just “happens” to drive out into the middle of nowhere and find the woman he’s having an affair with also just “happening” to be there, and then he loses his temper when he “happens” to find out she did something bad and just “happens” to kill her near a mineshaft that just “happened” to be there. I'm still not sure why he killed her unless he really believed what his wife told him about Erin and his daughter. Murder seems too harsh for the rest of the goings on.
Yea what was that BS he made it sound like he backed up against his truck and just "happened to feel" the metal garrote. @Lady Liberty 4 I mean, i don’t think it’s inappropriate to say “he got her pregnant”, in this case. It’s pretty stupid not to use protection especially if you’re cheating on someone. Obviously she was apart of it too but she can’t exactly “get herself pregnant” without a participating penis, hence the “he” in this case.

As a prior Marine this one hits home, as the love triangle, and young stupid impulsive choices is so common in the USMC is disturbing. People trying to grow up too fast, with predictable bad results.
Interesting, could PTSD also have something to do with this, or does war bring out already existing violent impulses in (some)young marines?I got the impression that both Christopher and poor Erin were doing what most young people do in their teens/twenties- they let themselves get completely overwhelmed, without thinking too much, with the difference that they were also married.

Funny, if he’d said that Erin had hit Liberty when she was babysitting, and he lost it, then yeah, that might’ve been believable, but instead he came up with a hugely improbable scenario. Far more likely is that his wife had threatened to take the little girl and leave if he didn’t put an end to things and finish with her, or that Erin was threatening to tell the wife that she was pregnant. Moral of the story? Don’t cheat.
It's crazy how the whole situation started with John and Lily close to potentially losing their spouses to Chris and Erin's alleged affair, and ended with them losing their spouses anyway.
He didn't want his wife to find out and leave him ..I mean you have many cases like this. Where people would rather get rid of another person instead of just trying to talk it out as humans should.

I mean her character was already in question with her having an affair and lying that her hubby beat her :/ He's scummy for trying to say she molested his daughter but she wasn't an angel

@TheMrCaptainStfu Ty have a good day.
If I was a juror it would have been the nail in the coffin for him by doing that to Erin and her family .
Tina, even the living who are slandered as such cannot defend themselves. People hit the OFF button of the mind when they hear this particular allegation. Criminals everywhere use this allegation to distract from their own crimes! It is the go to strategy.

Probably felt like the bailiff's face, telling them a bs story.
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 If you have ever been on a jury, you'll know this -
When you leave the court and go back the the jury room, the jury first deals with the most pressing issue.

Wow

I got the little reference to U2… “in Joshua Tree they still hadn’t found what they were looking for” ….. nice 😊
"In Joshua tree they still hadn't found what they were lookin for"....I see what you did there Mikey.

That was a despicable defense. I'm so glad he got life without parole! Love ya, Mike!
Why do they look up: "How to dispose of a dead body?"
Seriously, it can't be that hard to figure out on your own, and it incriminates you.
Exactly!
Killers always make the same mistakes:
1. Buying the murder weapon(s) at fucking Walmart self checkout with cameras and using their own debit card.
2. Using Google to look up things related to murder/getting away with a murder.
3. Getting a life insurance policy in the days/weeks before a murder occurs.
It's like a fucking idiot check list of what not to do 🤦🏾♂️
If you kill for that stupid reason, there's your answer. Sensless and stupid is the killer...blah...I am glad he is in a cage forever.
Well, how bright are they for wanting to kill in the first place? It rarely turns out well for the killer, these days. Thank the gods.✌😸

I wonder if he’s ever considered how he’d feel if someone did to his daughter what he did to the Corwins’ daughter.
And to shamelessly bring his daughter into that mess the way he did to try and save his own ass, no regard for the confusion and trauma he was putting squarely on her shoulders, no problem repeatedly, publicly speaking her name… smfh.
22:20 - The bailiff's look perfectly sums up the believability of Chris' testimony.

The moment your spouse cheats on you, you need to be out the door. There's no way to trust them and they'll just do it again. Nothing changes.
The moment you learn a person you are seeing cheated on their spouse, or, worse, was cheating on them with you? Same rule applies. The person they cheated with was "special" too. Once.
A very sweeping statement. Some couples get over infidelity. There are worse things!
To stay is acceptance & has no grounds for change.
@Radiant Siren Well I'm saying it, and I'm not a cheater, nor have I been cheated on. I've come to that conclusion through life experiences. Humans can be unrealistic about such things, and end up throwing away people they love because they made a mistake.
Not everyone who cheats is a serial cheat, or can never be trusted again. Of course some can't - making the right judgement on that is the thing!
No they need to be out the door. Why should I go through the trouble of moving?

WOW
I'd think Mike would have uncovered this fact as it was very significant.
Imagine killing someone, and then telling everyone you did it because SHE was the monster.
His poor daughter will have to grow up wondering about all this.
That's a good point. Just goes to show how much he really cared about his daughter.

@@Phoenix-de9lo The first attorney was his, he certainly wasn't going to ask about that. The second one, doing the demonstration, might have, it just wasn't during the part Mike had on here. But you are exactly right. I don't know of anyone without evil intent, that has their own "travel garrotte". Seems pretty planned to me. No matter what he said, he planned it and I do not, for one minute, believe that Erin was touching his daughter.
My former roommate was the Sherriff's Coroner for this case and I remember him telling me how difficult it was on him. He said cases involving kids is always really tough. Thank you for covering this case
Or, don't kill people.
Or sack up, and take the divorce.
These Pauls don't have any morals
Do not kill people whatever the circumstances and rough patches. As simple as that.
Moral of the story, as always, is you do not get to murder people even if they hurt your feelings really badly.

I just happened to have this garrot lying around for some reason or another…

They should have just swapped at that point.

He didn't want his wife to find out and leave him ..I mean you have many cases like this. Where people would rather get rid of another person instead of just trying to talk it out as humans should.
Erin was pregnant.
Yeah, had the same question. I mean, surely potentially ruining your marriage is a far better outcome than murdering two innocent souls and loosing your freedom for good. I guess such people never think through their plans.

Destroying an innocent person’s character because she isn’t here to defend herself. And everyone carries a garrote in their vehicle…plus, how many months did he n his wife have to think up the BS?!
That's what I'm saying. I didn't believe a single word about the sexual assault. He was ashamed of his adultery and tried to make her go missing. His wife definitely knew what was up, but she seems like she's got enough sense not to defame herself.
His testimony on the stand sounded like he had memorized it or was reading it. Not believable at all.
She really didn’t have much character to destroy
