    Appropriate 🍎 & 🍊 comparison.
Seems like all roads lead to Ardbeg 10.
However I am a fan of Lagavulin 8😊 as well.
    Cheers 🥃

Yeah the Ardbeg 10 is a solid whisky which we can all be happy with. Personal preference John, I know I'm in the minority around my friends as well, a lot of people love it.

This is a very good idea for comparison and like all good ideas we're left wondering why it didn't occur to us before. I have to admit, upfront, that I became an Ardbeg member to by the 8 but when you factored in the postage it wasn't particularly cheap. Lagavulin 8 is often on sale on a well known (MASSIVE) retailer for less than £50. However, let's talk about the whisky in the bottle. The Discussion aspect was pure Ardbeg media BS. They couldn't give a ***k what we think.
Straight up, I think the Ardbeg 8 is better than Lagavulin 8. Why is that? Lagavulin 8 is such a crap Diageo offering. It's for the malt heads but aged in cruddy used casks and tastes so young. We love Lagavulin but the casks in the 8 yield nothing and it's raw and too young. Peat and that's it.
Wee Beastie and the 10 are better value than any Ardbeg. Lagavulin (a great distillery) are just producing mediocre and overpriced Diageo stuff. What a state of affairs. WT

What a brilliant write up 👏 I echo everything on the second paragraph, you've explained my thoughts much better than I did 😃
No Ardbeg doesn't care what we think and neither does Diageo. We're just gonna have to find some integrity malts which suits us and slowly walk away from these old guards towards the new craft distilleries and IBs.
Thanks for dropping in, appreciate your comments 🥃

Could not agree more with this sentiment WT, you summed it up perfectly regarding the Laga 8 - it's raw and too young.
I really disliked the Laga 8, it's not ready to be bottled IMO

Good to see the 'shit on Laga 8' campaign is gaining some traction @@McIntyresMalts 😂

@@thewhiskyenthusiast Haha, TBH most comments I see about it are how good it is... I think it's terrible. I really wanted to like it and I tried multiple times, but it's just not for me.

@@McIntyresMalts This is fun, let's crap on Lagavulin 8 a bit more but before we do let's put our thinking hats on. Despite Lagavulin's great reputation as a single malt we should not forget that its main purpose is to provide whisky to go into Diageo's far more lucrative blends such as Johnny Walker. I remember Ivan Menezes, the CEO of Diageo, being interviewed in Lockdown 2 on the BBC Today Program (the most important news program in the U.K) about how the Pandemic combined with Brexit was affecting business. Turns out they were doing just fine. During the interview he could not stop blabbing about Johnnie Walker and never mentioned single malt once. That sums up for me what Diageo really think about single malt whisky.
When Lagavulin 8 came out it was such an obvious fop to keep the malt heads happy. A Lagavulin bottled at 48% now shut your gobs about how crap we are. Folk so desperate to see Lagavulin 16 with a greater abv and half the price of Lagavulin 12 jumped on the bandwagon. The thing is, it might have an 8 year age statement but it's probably been aged in those used up casks destined for Johnnie Walker blends. 8 year wood maturation should mean something but not when a cask is practically dead. It sticks in my craw as a bottle of pure cynicism. There's no distillery character in it. WT

Thank you, I'm happy to know you like the channel😃 A lot of people seem to like the Lagavulin 8 but it's too young and harsh for me. I bet you can find a sample from one of the websites which you buy from before buying a whole bottle, cheers 🥃

8 year olds dude.....That's a damn shame. Ardbeg and boring are rarely in the same sentence together. I love the impromptu Lag comparison and keeping it casual! Great work my dude. I guess the moral of this story is to stick with the Ardbeg core range eh?

    • @thewhiskyenthusiast
      @thewhiskyenthusiast  Год назад +2

Yeah dude I just don't understand what we're supposed to discuss other than Ardbeg needed an excuse to release an 8 year old whisky 😀 The core range is solid, let's stay there.
Thanks Freed, maybe I should be more prepared ahead of a video but sometimes you gotta go where the whisky takes you 😅 Cheers my friend 🥃
