    I have seen nothing but glowing reviews for this smart monitor. I’ve been considering replacing my five-year-old 720P monitor for some time now. After looking at this monitor and watching your review I think it’s pretty certain I’m getting myself a new Samsung.

      I have this monitor, it is a pain in the ass to connect to your Mac. I still can't get the webcam to connect when I am on the mac. The picture isn't that great. It seems flimsy. I can't get the display to scale properly. It is either much too large for text or much too small. I can't get it to be just right. So I tried to use it as an accessory monitor. It was even worse. You should get something else. I regret this purchase

      Most of the reviews are paid reviews by Samsung unfortunately. I fell for it. Bought it. And returned it within a week. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great monitor on paper. It looks nice on your desk, very iMac like. Which was a selling point for me. But the actual screen looks way too washed off for productivity use, which is the main purpose I bought it for. You really have to be at least 5 feet away to have a good viewing angle. The camera is trash. My Logitech camera is 100 better. It is also not as bright as I would have liked for a bright room. But you can always try it and decide for yourself.

      @@yngynggod the lack of VESA support is very puzzling. I’m not a fan of the stand design but it’s serviceable. For those who said they have seen nothing but glowing reviews for this, it’s worth considering Samsung has shipped these out to reviewers tech influencers before it hit the market. Ian’s it’s in their interest to give them a positive review because it’s a sponsored video, one way or another.
      I have one on the way but with chip shortages and all the craziness in the world, it won’t be here until June. As someone who loves apple products, I couldn’t stomach the asking price of the new display and extra for the articulating stand. That said, I’m not a professional so colour accuracy isn’t of the utmost importance. I wished they made it 5k though but afaik, Samsung doesn’t have a 5k panel of their own, all of the 5k monitors are made by LG including the one in the apple display.

    I grabbed a 32" Samsung M7 monitor for $280 back in November 2021 (before M8 was released)... I have to say, it's unbeatable at that price point. I love working on it up close connected via USB-C to an M1 MB Air, and then I can push away, sit in my recliner, and be watching Netflix 10 seconds later. My only qualms with it: switching between input sources is a breeze with the remote, but I keep that across the room, so on the M7, there's a single button on the bottom of the screen's chin that is a single press to move the curser, long press to select... it's a huge pain to change volume and source that way. Would have liked to see dedicated buttons for volume, power, and source. Also, I don't see a headphone jack on the monitor itself, so how could one add external speakers? Plugging them into my computer would work, but speakers would be rendered useless once I switch to Netflix or other apps... is bluetooth the only option?
    Once again though... a 32" 4K display with Netflix, Hulu, Disney, Prime, AirPlay etc. with built-in speakers, and a single USB-C cable for computer power/display even at full price ($330) is RIDICULOUSLY good.

    Great review. I’m on the fence between this and the studio display.

      I'm in exactly the same position, I've just ordered my Apple Studio, but didn't commit to ordering the studio monitor as I've still not seen it in the flesh and the price will hurt a lot!
      My biggest problem is that my ideal display for the studio doesn't even exist! I just want a good colour performing monitor, native 5K resolution and pro motion, so it is comparable to the monitors in the laptops and a bit more OI docking solutions, like HDMI. My worry moving away from Apple is the loss of crisp graphics and control over the monitor from Apples OS.

    This might make a great modesty priced monitor for a Mac mini or a MacBook Air user, but I can’t see many pros or even people who have invested in a Mac studio choosing this over something like the new Dell U3223QE or the BenQ PD series 32 inch. Those seem to be more likely alternatives to the Apple Studio Display to me. Personally I am not interested at all in the smart assistant or TV functionality, and I am looking for a 32 inch monitor with great color accuracy, good build quality, extensive hub functionality, and value that still exceeds what you get from the Studio Display. I have seen a few dozen reviews of this monitor in the last few weeks, can we get some comparisons of some of the OTHER alternatives in this size that are new or are older but still might make sense?

      I don't have the competence to discuss on the monitor, but the puny teeny tiny add-on webcam makes the whole effort quite questionable. One has the possibility to address Apple quality centric userbase, they make an external connection for a proper webcam and come out with this trinket on a bezel. It really seems a toy and probably it really is.

      @@m80116 Toy camera's! Well having any camera (on any platform) built into a slim display is heavily compromising it's performance by squeezing the depth of it's sensor and lens's. It's the reason we have so many camera's stuck on the back of our phones to compensate for this. So if anything having a camera externally mounted is anything but toy like. However in this case, I'm sure component cost is holding this camera back, but gives the potential to stick in a much much better camera in future

    I am sold. This is the display I will be getting. I love Apple products, but just because it has an Apple logo doesn't mean it is always the best BANG for the $$$. The Mac Studio is impressive, but for what I do, a 16 GB M1 Mac mini will do the job for $1,100 less and it will only take 5 minutes more in render time for my typical FPRX video. That said, the extra $1,100 I won't be spending on the Apple Studio Display will go toward this Samsung Display and I will still have an extra $500 remaining. Budget $2,400: New Mac $1,200, new Display $700, and $500 to put on additional new lighting equipment. Hmmmmmmm. Sounds good to me!

      Seriously get ANYTHING but this. They get sponsored for doing videos like these. At least get a REAL monitor NOT a “smart monitor”. It’s really not worth it in the end.
      Meanwhile people are still using Apple Cinema displays from 18 years ago, no ads, premium build, excellent panels.

    My elderly parents are cord-cutters. They have DSL internet, but they haven't had cable TV in years. They watch alot of RUclips videos, and they use RUclips to get their news. I'm not 100% sold, but Samsung's M8 may be a crucial component. My most important questions are:

    2: If the M8 is used as a stand-alone computing device, (a: how do you use it to access Microsoft Office without a computer? Does it need a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse added to do this? (b: Can the M8 be used to access social media, such as RUclips and Facebook? (c: Can the M8 connect to a WiFi printer in our home, to print out documents? and (d: Can the M8 be used to view and print PDF files?
    3: I my parents wanted to use their laptop through the M8, how does it connect between a Mac and the monitor? Does the webcam work through this connection?

    All at 1/4 the price!

    Thanks, your enthusiasm is justified, I bought one for £330, that’s a good deal right? The TV channels are not great, but the streaming options are excellent. I never thought I’d use them.

    I totally enjoy this channel and respect the work they do reviewing products, and yes I know the channel purchased an M8, but they shouldn’t have accepted having a unit sent from Samsung. It’s just my own issues I’m sure, but I get very skeptical when a channel receives items for free, even if they have to eventually return them. It makes me think think the reviewer will be gentle with any problems or issues, in order not to bite that hand that feeds.

    I’ve been using it for almost 3 months and I’m gonna say, it’s worth the money - but there’re small disadvantages as for me. 1) It’s 4k, but 60hz - would’ve been good to have 120hz, but it would affect the price more. Two sides of the coin 😅 2) when you use windows laptop and hook it up w/ hdmi - the camera doesn’t work 🥲 it works with laptops that can share screen through usb-c, like MacBooks (or with Airplay). With windows laptops you have to use the usb-c cable from the box and hook the camera up with the laptop separately, so you have more cables - hdmi for screen and usb-c for camera. That’s a bit annoying 🥲 3) the stand is a bit unstable - I’m a heavy typer, so when I was typing the screen was literally shaking around slightly 😭 had to get used to easier typing press. 4) not very bothersome but still - if you need to change any settings for the monitor (change the brightness or the volume of the monitor), you have to use the remote, you can’t do it on the keyboard. Otherwise, it’s a good monitor, especially for the price!

    Another RUclipsr said that the Mac’s performance suffers dramatically if the scaling is set to anything other then Max or Min size. In other words, 100 or 200 dpi will work fine, but something in the middle like this will be stuck with very slow performance, or giant/tiny interface. Have you seen anything like this?

    • @musicelect
      @musicelect 2 года назад

      I wish reviewers would talk about this. I’m think a lot of them aren’t even aware of the significance of scaling. If you’re a pro user in the world of video or VFX, it can make a big difference in the performance of your computer. The scaling really eats up GPU resources.

    Hi Max Tech, I'd love to know how this monitor works everyday with an Apple Studio computer. Things like.. Adjusting the brightness, colour, volume etc of the monitor from the apple, or is it controlled from the monitor only? Does the brick reach the floor or needs to sit on the desk? What scaling, resolutions does this work best at for the studio? I'd love to see this working with an iPad too, and does the apple studio display work well with the iPad?

    I have an old Full HD 27" TN display, I have been thinking about replacing it and this sounds great, it has a webcam, it has audio ( so that there has just cut down some cables ) . I realise the speakers are not earthshattering brilliant, but when your audio is a set of powered speakers plugged into a headphone jack. It will be decent to watch you tube. listen to some basic audio tracks ( voiceover on your own homemade video).

    So much discussion about 60 Hz panels in 2022 is just ridiculous. It may be acceptable for a TV used for watching movies only, but a monitor for work/gaming looks absolutely horrible compared to a good 144 or 240 Hz panel like HP x32 or Odyssey G7.

    • @TehSpeedRunner
      @TehSpeedRunner 2 года назад

      Absolutely! Apple seems to ignore the whole layer of comfort using a machine with high refresh rate monitor and low latency peripherals. Even the new laggy 120hz has not solved it yet, which you can't even force to be always on.

  • @mikea8294
    @mikea8294 2 года назад +1

    This seems like a much better value than the Apple Studio Display. If this monitor had a 120 hz or higher refresh rate and came in black, it would be perfect. I am a gamer and have a black theme in my office. For now I am using the Eve Spectrum 27” 4K 144hz monitor which I love.

      Check out the LG 42” C2 television. It’s a more expensive, but more feature rich competitor to the M8. It has 120Hz. Of course, a 42” TV as a monitor is only feasible with a slightly deeper desk, but many RUclipsrs are reviewing this as a computer monitor/TV/console screen.

Finally after an hour of trouble shooting i connected the new mac mini using the HDMI it was magic. Long story short…if you’re setting up a new computer with this monitor use the HDMI. Hope i can switch to the USB-C in the future for better refresh rate.

    I don’t mean to be negative but I think people should be informed. I will be returning mine. It’s good as a monitor and it’s good as a low quality tv if you will watch it by yourself. Volume above 40% starts crackling. The camera is cool but it’s so so pixelated and laggy that I would never actually use it. The remote is great. The color is good and resolution is good. when there is a lot of movement on screen your eye catches glitches and pixelations. So watching movies is not the most pleasant experience. Likely due to 60 Hz. I expected a monitor +tv +webcam. I got a very pretty monitor+ low quality tv. Buy according to your needs and what you plan to use it for

    Yes, it has features. Lots of them. But at the end of the day... you want a monitor to look good as a monitor. Every reviewer is going nuts over the laundry list of features but very few answer the question, "does it look good."
    And that answer is no. I A/B'd this in the store with my Macbook Air and the Studio Display blew it out of the water. By a mile.

    I need a little help on this, hope you or anyone who knows a little bit more about this can get back to me. I have a 2022 16" MacBook Pro and I can't choose between the Samsung M8 and the Dell UltraSharp. I've heard the Samsung M8 has some connectivity issues with OsX and needs some extra wires in order to not have lag on the cursor but it's still a good product and I feel like I'd be getting my money's worth with all the additional stuff it has.

    • @bestinleeds

      Using the enclosed USB-C cable, you can enable Game mode to avoid the lag (use the 'Standard' response time to avoid flicker on RUclips). You won't be able to use the ‘Eco’, ‘Entertain’, ‘Graphic’ or 'Eye Saver' picture modes or speaker amplification though. I recently bought and returned the M8 as I wasn't satisfied with the quality of the panel. Colours were washed out, blacks looked absolutely terrible and the low pixel density (compared to Mac) was a bit jarring - a smaller IPS like Dell's UltraSharp would drastically reduce all of these issues though. ;)
