    I also bought a Samsung M8 and have been using it for two weeks. I agree with everything in the review, although I thought the build quality was a little better than the reviewer. After deciding that I couldn't use it as a monitor with my Macbook (because of the size and resolution and my eyesight), I tried using it as a Smart TV and was totally disappointed compared to just using a ChromeCast. So, if I don't return it, I'll just use it with ChromeCast. What that means for new purchasers (who haven't decided yet) is that they shouldn't buy this as a Smart TV and instead buy a 'dumb' monitor and a ChromeCast (and save a few hundred bucks). Good review!

      I use a Hisense Doly Vision and Doly Atmos HDR 43 inch VA Panel ❤TV but use a 4K Firestick over the inbuilt 1st part OS as it is faster with much better App Selection
      Why not use a Chromecast with Android TV simple as cost the Chromecast 4K with Android TV was 2x the cost of the Firestick 4K at least at the time of purchase
      The only good Intergrated Smart OS is WebOS FireTV AndroidTV even on many Flagship Devices uses Under Powered SoC's and outdated WiFi & Bluetooth Versions many Inbuilt wifi is not even 5Ghz hit 2.4ghz never mind Wi-Fi 6 aka AX or better and most are Bluetooth 5 if you are lucky or even older when it should be at least 5.2 if not 5.3

    First time viewer here. Personal grudge shining through I think 🙃
    Summary:
    Negative: he dislikes VA panels because of the low viewing angles (which he incorrectly attributes to low contrast), poor speakers (who cares) and then rightly so he critiques the build quality of the stand and quality control.
    Positive: design, contrast, sharpness, overall picture.
    For some weird reason he loves it for gaming even though it's 60Hz and he puts it in extreme overdrive which should never be done due to excessive overshoot.

    • @rogerx9298

      Built-in speakers are expected to be poor. It's acceptable as long as there is digital audio out. Looks like bluetooth is the only available option for external speakers -- there will be lag, interference with my other devices, and lower bandwidth. I've been planning to buy a set of powered speakers that has a nice DSP, and the lack of digital audio out other than bluetooth is a deal breaker for me.
      VA panels are good in general. I like them. I'm using a 4k TV as my monitor, and it uses a VA panel. But man that implementation from the M8 looks terrible on dark movies in a dark room. Who watches dark movies in dark rooms? Me! None of the sponsored reviewers said anything about this. I almost pulled the trigger.

    Just picked this up for $299 on Prime Day. One thing you missed was that you can do multiple windows in Picture in Picture mode instead of the inferior 2 small side by side window mode. I like it so far. Especially for the price. Maybe they fixed the build quality since launch too.

      @@kumardeepanshu8503 I love it for the price. Not a gaming monitor and not the same color profile as an Apple one, but I still manage to use it for video editing and it works great. For those wondering about the scaling with a mac Mini M1, I am able to tweak & adjust it to my liking. Definite brightness improvement over the M7 and 4K is very acceptable for most day to day use. Here in Canada, saved huge versus the Studio Display...$1,999 vs. $849 before tax...worth the compromise, keeper for me.

    Thanks for giving your honest opinion but really you needed to couch it a bit by saying it was not for you but could be of use for other users/viewers. The moment you kicked off about the lack of a Vesa mount capability made me realise you didnt get it. This is for general use in tight spaces, kitchens, student accommodation, those newly working from home who need an extra screen and appreciate a 2 in one type product. It is not meant for hardcore tech guys. Look at the ads for it its general home use etc. Plastic and pastel hues come on...it was never going to be your thing. A Mini and a Ferrari are both cars but serve different purposes. Same here.

    Good information, although you didn't mention this panel is 10 bit compared to 8 on the M7 - also having the camera to the side of the M8 screen while pointing directly at the Apple display was never going to produce optimine viewing angles for Samsung - the M8 isn't very good off access 😳 the build quality isn't great but comparing this panel with a much more expensive Apple panel is apple and oranges... Im still looking for a decent panel to work with both Apple and PC the M8 isn't it...

      @@kenmur9070 Hello, I am running a 16" M1 MBP and a Studio base model through the monitor. Im using a TB4 USB C cable to connect from either computer. The monitor has a great hub built in so I am running my epson ES-50 scanner and my webcam off it as well. I have 0 issues with this monitor. Brightness is fine, picture quality is good although its no match for my LG 48" OLED monitor but still more than acceptable and you don't have to make allowances to avoid any burn in. When I also had a Windows laptop connected at the same time (HDMI) it was an absolute breeze to switch between Mac OS and WIndows. I use Logitech MX Keys and MX Master 3 mouse, these allow you to connect to up to 3 computers. So not having a KVM switch is a moot point. Basically its seamless switching. I know the new M8 has a few more features but it will have to be a lot more useable to beat out the 43" M7. As you mentioned, you cant beat the price difference and after going to a 43" from 2 LG 32" monitors, I would never go back. All the best.

    I just picked this M8 up. Same here with the smudges. I am in Canada and got it on a deep discount, total price was $549 (that is -350!!!). It is a VA panel and has therefore the same issues as most VA monitors have if you are not in front of it. Major issues: The mount did not click in and as soon as I tried to lift it the stand fell off. The USB-c cable is WAY too short, I mean what is the sense of such a cable. I am just hating the fact (and I know it is a big word) that the remote does not only connect to the M8 as I have multiple samsung devices in my office. I used the method to link the remote to the device and they just keep coming on or off, regardless of the pairing. The speakers cannot be disabled when using it as a monitor. Like you said the speakers are crap but that is not why I use this monitor. I do love it as a monitor, on my 16" MacBook Pro M1Pro and can use all functions. It charges 65 Watts and that is enough to keep up with my use. Maybe the drop in price will justify a purchase.

    • @kriosgr
      @kriosgr Год назад +3

      I got the same monitor and i can tell you to keep it and to connect it properly. The ucb-c cable you mentioned has the perfect length for to charge the remote control. If you need a longer one to connect a laptop or something you can just buy one. It is not true that you have to use its own speakers for sound if you have it as a monitor. I purchased one HDfury Arcana and pretty connected the m8 to my Sonos beam 2 soundbar. From the monitor settings i chose sonos beam as sound output and i can watch netflix 4k movies that support Dolby Atmos. As a computer monitor is very recommended because you can easily read text. For my room i use it as a TV as well and i enjoy 4k movies with Dolby Atmos sound. I bought it 799 euros and it is worth every cent. It excels on both uses. Monitor and TV. I even threw away my AppleTV 4kbox. I don't need it since the m8 has AppleTV app, i logged in with my Apple iD and i have all my Apple movies and can watch them on 4k! If you do and experience the setup i mentioned above you have a dream machine for work and entertainment.

    Good review and video, however it seems a lot of people focuses on the panel quality alone, which is good, very nice and crisp image. However, about connectivity, it's lousy, mirroring is absolutely unusable unless it's only to project a video, but interaction is awful. AND, it is not a one cable only monitor, it transmits image via HDMI, but not camera signal, microphone.... I have been using it for a year now, it is not unlivable at all, I had to buy a USB C hub to really enjoy the monitor. However, once a day at least, when the computer gets in sleep mode, when you return it wakes up with a weird resolution for a moment, then it can't read the video input and you get a "rain noise" image, the only way to get out of that is unplug the monitor and start it again, and it is OK.

    There's some things I love about the design of this, like the webcam, but you pointed you some major things most reviewers leave out. THANK YOU. No VESA? Not IPS? Wtf. Overall color accuracy is key. The fact that this keeps getting compared to the studio monitor is concerning to me. Seems like a good device for people who want an all in one entertainment monitor, but for design work this ain't it.

    I'm not a gamer and was considering this monitor (along with the LG UltraFine Ergo) to connect to a Mac Studio for photo editing and general computer use- since that's what I'm looking at, I will be looking straight on. From what I saw, the box gives color accuracy in terms of sRGB, but not for Adobe RGB. The color and vibrancy on screen is less important than accuracy in prints, and there's little data on how well this works in that context. Any advice on the two side by side?

    I think most of your reservations will apply to any VA display of this size. That being said I am a little concerned with other reviewers singing praises for it. It costs more than 32/IPS/P3/HDR600 BenQ and LG 32 Ergo. If M8 launched at the pricing of M7 then it would be a good deal, but it didn't. You can add SlimFit camera to M7 too (the one they sell for TV, about $70) - it attaches magnetically but you need to connect the wire to USB port.

    This is just a renamed smart tv featurewise. If you dont need hdmi cec and earc, stay away from it. Getting a proper tv or chromecast has better value. But this is the only 4k 32-inch smart tv on the global market, tho.

    Hmm, I’m actually looking at M8 right now since I only have enough space for 1 screen in my room and I want it to be tv cum monitor bec.
    1. I’ll be connecting it to my office laptop which would have certain restrictions on what I could watch. 2. My laptop screen is also quite small (13” macbook air), hence the need for a bigger monitor.
    The M8 seems to fit the bill for most of the things I need since it already has a webcam but I’ve been hearing not so great reviews about it too.
    What would be a great alternative? If I buy a decent monitor instead, won’t I need to buy chromecast + webcam + speakers for what I need? Then it’ll all add up to the same amount?

    Wow. You came into this review biased. The camera connector that has a USB-C allows for other cameras to connect if you don’t like what is supplied. The stand is not ALL plastic as it has a metal base. The build quality is very good and has tight tolerances for a plastic enclosure which keeps the weight down. “Flimsy” is not a concern as I will not be routinely touching the monitor. The price is right, the features are many, so if you just wanted to make a take-down video that no one will take seriously, you did it.

    I paid $399 for the VESA mountable version. Yes, a VESA version exists, despite this reviewer's cluelessness on the subject.
    Very well worth it at this price. No way would I pay $800, but 99% of this guy's complaining becomes utterly irrelevant at the 399 price point.

    in my region this model came as pre-order for 1200 USD, so I bought it from UK, but my electrical outlet has a different standard, I saw the brick said 20V, not sure if I can use my normal 19.5V but I guess not, the big question that I have is should I use an adaptor or can I use half of a normal monitor plug with the samsung power brick ?

    • @leonpjhb
      @leonpjhb 2 года назад

      Look at the rated input voltage of the supplied power brick. If it states 100-240volt you can use it with justna different plug. I would be careful of using a different brick, chck th sps lrly, voltage amd amperage needs to be the same on both.

    Thanks for sharing your review. It is a bit disappointing to see Samsung hasn't really up its game with these Monitors... The M7 was definitely not a good monitor when it comes to refresh rates and dead pixelisations and the list can go on...but at least get the newer models working better than the predecessors.... and also...why remove the ability of having a VESA mount... I would much prefer to hook it up to a stand and adjust the height and tilt angles. Let's see if the M9 makes it any better than these last 2 models??
