Strongly disagree with the idea that 4k monitors start making sense at 32 inch. They're not TVs, those are meant to be used much closer. That's why Apple has been using 4K+, 5K and 6K for their 24, 27 and 32 inch monitors. You can notice the extra sharpness. I'm currently using a 4k 27 inch, and while I'm very happy, there's margin to improve that can be experienced while using a higher resolution. We're definitely going to see a transition in the future, just like we saw years ago when transitioning 720-1080-1440-4k.
They need not to advertise the smart monitor as a tv now that they removed the HDMI ARC (audio return channel). The M7/M5 allowed you to connect a sound bar system for 5.1/7.1/Atmos. This upgraded/newer model has removed that feature.
I really couldn’t care less about the “smart” features but I do need a good Mac/PC monitor and most monitors are ugly. This actually is a decent monitor with very good design, good/very good image quality, integrated speakers and above average webcam. Considering the Apple Studio Display is $1600 and yes it’d may be brighter and 5K but is that enough to justify the $900 difference? This one accepts HDR (although it’s more like a “fake HDR”), it’s bigger and comes with a better camera than the Studio Display, height adjustment (extra $400 in the Studio), double input, Picture in Picture. It really isn’t half bad.
The problem with this monitor is that a lot of 4k gaming monitors are coming down in price that are better than it. The Gigabyte M32U is 4k 144hz 32 inch with HDR400, HDMI 2.1, color accurate screen and etc and it's actually on sale for $600 USD on amazon right now. While the HDR on both of these are terrible, I think the M8 should have come with a higher refresh screen or better HDR. While I get there are some benefits of having all the smart features, imo a lot of those benefits are mitigated by it's original purpose which is being plugged into a PC. The design certainly looks better than similarly priced gaming monitors though.
The thing that makes it for me is the design. Most monitors are really like REALLY ugly. I won’t pay an extra thousand dollars for aluminum and a good design (cough cough Apple Display) but I could imagine myself paying $100 for a good design. Also, there are good gaming monitors but so far I didn’t find a good one with USB-C Power Delivery to charge my laptop with one cable.
If you think streaming from a web browser is the same as from a smart tv then you probably have never used smart tv or similar devices. Most web browser do not support 4k and you have to use Edge for windows or Safari for macOS, also no web browser support 5.1 or dolby atmos, furthermore to my eyes, the picture quality from a web browser is worse than smart tv. While the M8 only have 60hz, it has a remote (way better to use than mouse/keyboard for movies/shows), contrast ratio is 3000:1 vs 1100:1 of the Gigabyte, 400 nits sustain brightness, smart tv/home included, miles ahead in design, all sort of build-in features, webcam. The price difference is only $100, I think it is a better value monitor.
I have a Samsung QN90A, it has awesome rec709 / filmmaker mode but in pc mode it doesn’t have those color profiles. As a tv and my secondary monitor hung above my 27’ 1440p 144hz benq ex2780q I would always prefer the monitor when am working developing apps or working in Lightroom. Apart from college students and people in dorms I see no use for it as a monitor. It’s just a small tv without the tv tuner which frankly no one uses this day and age and probably will be removed in a few years like av and component input sent to the grave.
I just put up a new Qn90B, and am still calibrating and figuring stuff out. Can you tell me what you love about the filmmaker profile? I haven’t figured out it’s advantages yet. Thanks!
SO, what is a better 4+k alternative? Especially if you care less about the smart TV options and more about colour accuracy for photo/video editing (and perhaps higher frame rates for gaming, as a perk).
If you are going from dual 27-inch FHD monitors to this 32-inch UHD monitor, you could conceivably fit the equivalent content on the single monitor due to higher resolution. A 43-inch UHD monitor would make a significant difference.
Best thing about the M8? I got the m7 for 220 euros on sale. White the M8 is an upgrade the smart features are similar and the panel is still 60hz va as the previous model.
You can almost replicate this with a 32" Smart TV which would cost significantly less. Would have the same Connectivity and Apps but not the 4K or USB C ports. It's clear why this is a Smart Monitor not a Smart TV and most people find using a TV to work from an odd experience. I like it.

I tried it. Hooked up my M3 Max MacBook Pro. The VA panel practically ruined the visual experience for me. All MacOS elements were completely washed out toward the bottom and top of the display when keeping my eye-line at the center of the display. I had to physically move down or up to see those areas straight on to get accurate coloring. I wanted to love it so much but the color shifting with the changing viewing angles was much too drastic for my liking.

Hello, very good video. One question, I bought the Samsung M8 and a Mac Mini M2, and I don't really know which cable to use to connect it. I have read that if you do not connect it via USB-C it does not detect the camera, but in that case, which USB-C cable do I use, the one that comes with the monitor itself? And which of the two USB-C that the monitor has should I use? Because there is one that charges, and if I connected it to a laptop I would understand it, it would charge it, but if I connect it to a Mac Mini it doesn't need to be charged, wouldn't that be bad? Thank you so much.
I don't get all of these companies not building a decent monitor. This plastic thing will never win over a mac user. At least not me. Why not charge $300 more and make this thing aluminum like the huawei mateview, and sell it like crazy for the people not so exited about the Apple display? Great Review BTW, as always.
I have a LC34J79 Ultra wide Samsung monitor with loads of features (not smart though) and i am considering replacing it with this M8. I hope i won't be disappointed..
Thanks very good review. I recently got the new Mac Studio. Can you please connect M8 with your Mac Studio and tell us that everything integrates well or not, including zoom / Teams video calls? When you wake up the Mac Studio with touching keyboard, does M8 monitor wake up instantly or with lag. I did not get the Mac Studio display and will appreciate knowing how good or not this M8 is as an alternative. Thanks in advance. Also if you can compare M8 with Apple Studio display in another video, many people like me will watch it keenly.
Namaste 🙏🏽 Thanks for the very informative presentation. Can you please let me know if I can wirelessly connect my MacMini M2 Pro to M8 monitor at booting, or, is the cable interface inevitable. Thank you
Does this show live TV ie. will you need a TV licence to have this in the home? I am looking for a WIFI monitor on which I can just watch movies and RUclips

(c: Can the M8 connect to a WiFi printer in our home, to print out documents? and (d: Can the M8 be used to view and print PDF files?
3: I my parents wanted to use their laptop through the M8, how does it connect between a Mac and the monitor? Does the webcam work through this connection?
4: If they had an M8 hanging on a wall, how could external speakers be mounted?
Which one would you prefer, this samsung m8 or huawei mateview?
Just bought a 32” Samsung TV and this pops up on my recommendations 🤔
Can you hardwire a keyboard to it
Lot of good stuff. Love it q comparison with a ln Eve spectrum 27" monitor could be done you know "better"
Are you going to be doing a review for the Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pros?
Yes, but it responds well as a computer monitor to Adobe programs, Blender or heavy gaming, for example? 🤔
Well done 👍 Samsung, exactly what I need 🚀
I think if you're used to a MBP display, you probably need something IPS with good colour accuracy. This is a lot of things, but it's not everything.
Agreed. I ended up going with an LG 32UQ85R-W and I couldn't be happier with it. I really appreciate your videos, reviews, and advice. Thanks! @@Thetechchap
@@Thetechchapthat werid cuz most moniters dont have a built in smart tv such as hp dell acer most moniters u have to hook up a amazon firestick
Hey Tom, why did you blur the gap on the stand? Samsung told you not mention poor quality or why? :)
I have the m7 and I love him
Can I use this for video or photo editing?? Without having a laptop
Do you think this is a substantial upgrade from m7? Considering which to get.
Is the camera included with the purchase?
hi does this have any scaling issue when used with m1 pro? is the resolution 4k still and doesn't look like it seemed zoomed in?
I would buy it if it would be available in a smaller size like 27 or 24 inches
Can a monitor arm connect to it? And if yes, any suggestions?
Can you use the camera for FaceTime and can you mount this ?
It is a nice monitor, but if you want to connect more than one thing, not using Wi Fi or you can´t use the C option, like for Xbox or Playstation, you are in trouble
There are HDMI inputs for that, 3 - I think
This IS what I’ve been looking for! Nice one Samsung.
When is the monitor released. Nothing on Samsungs website.
Can you compare it with the Apple Studio display?
its the 3rd smart monitor, they also make an M5 at 1080p 24, 27 and 32 inch
What color is your monitor (sides and base)? From what I gather they make this one in white, pink, but and green but yours looks different.
I don't have a 4k monitor but I do have a 1080P acer Monitor To get sound on your monitor I managed to hook up a sony cd bombox it has a audio in plug All I need is an accessory to add extra hdmi port for the ps4 and Amazon firestick It is a hard experiments to do. The only things I don't like about Monitors on like tvs is the Matt screens But everything else of the monitor as a TV works better than a TV itself.
What about a comparison between this monitor and huawei mateview 3:2 ?
Can you tell me if the M8 comes with a wall mount, or is that not possible?
It's that samsung thing, I think this is a fine nuce screen for people who have only 1 screen on there room! It need a remote magnet 2 tho
I am tempted to buy it, although it isn't available in my country I don't think. (UK)
Does this need to plugged with a cpu or some sort?
Would it be useful and possible to connect your Mac mini M1 to it?
What type of screen is this? Not spec wise, but type of screen Because it's more clear than most monitors even the $1200 ones
When can we buy this in the UK?
How does this compare to a 2017 imac
primarily just looking for a monitor for graphic design
Are you able to install the Steam app and play games as well on the monitor?
I need to ask i want this for my ps5 does 4k look super sharp and hdr is good it has good colors?
I have a LC34J79 Ultra wide Samsung monitor with loads of features (not smart though) and i am considering replacing it with this M8. I hope i won't be disappointed..
Good for video editing if hooked up to a MacBook Pro?
can you connect speaker to the monitor directly?
Thanks very good review. I recently got the new Mac Studio. Can you please connect M8 with your Mac Studio and tell us that everything integrates well or not, including zoom / Teams video calls? When you wake up the Mac Studio with touching keyboard, does M8 monitor wake up instantly or with lag. I did not get the Mac Studio display and will appreciate knowing how good or not this M8 is as an alternative. Thanks in advance. Also if you can compare M8 with Apple Studio display in another video, many people like me will watch it keenly.
Is there built-in mic? So I can take video calls on it without needing another audio input.
could you kindly tell me what your model is pc case ?
Namaste 🙏🏽
Thanks for the very informative presentation. Can you please let me know if I can wirelessly connect my MacMini M2 Pro to M8 monitor at booting, or, is the cable interface inevitable. Thank you
Will it have the 43" version?
so can you watch youtube without anything attached to it? i mean with wi-fi connection -obviously...
I wanna mainly use this as extra screen real estate for video editing. This monitor should suffice for that right ?
Does the M8 support Bluetooth headphones?
How is the picture quality when connected to a M1 MacBook Pro, comparing to the screen of the M1 MacBook Pro ? The m8 is only 180ppi right ?
Nice review, Can I ask why have you blurred the bottom part of monitor stand?
Right. So weird.
Maybe the text "Review unit"
@@krishpatel7749 i dont think so.. i guess there is a gap which looks ugly.. so tryin to hide it
@@MrExpert I think he didn't secure the stand properly so theres a gap
Haha good spot - in some of my shots I hadn't assembled it correctly, so there was a tiny gap. It was my mistake
Checks all of my boxes. Nice review 👍🏾
Does this show live TV ie. will you need a TV licence to have this in the home?
I am looking for a WIFI monitor on which I can just watch movies and RUclips
Where do you get that lamp? The one with the Red light! Looks soo cool!
Nice review, M8 👍
