I had the M7 for maybe a year. It’s the perfect monitor for what I need driving a semi. The live TV feature is what I primarily use it for. There’s so much content to stream that I don’t need one of those crap plug in antennas. Just so long you have a good WiFi source. These smart monitors are so much better than a traditional TV like everyone has in their rig. The only con I had with the M7 was the turtle slow processor. I got credit from my M7 from geek squad so all I paid out of pocket was 180 bucks to upgrade. I found an open box from Best Buy online that dropped the price 180 bucks. Since their open box items are basically brand new, It’s way cheaper that way

  • @martyhand4014

it doesn't look like an Apple Studio Display. It looks like an iMac that was introduced LONG before the M8. Thanks for being the only review I've seen that mentions that the camera, while nice, does not have any of the enhanced functionality in anything except Duo. Until that gets supported, I'm using a Logitech Brio as my camera. Also, my first one arrived damaged and the second one (the one I'm using now) has an issue with the built-in microphone. Almost no audio pickup using that microphone so back to the Brio for that as well.
I'm using this because I wanted to get back to a single external display instead of a dual monitor setup and the size is perfect. But I have serious issues with the build quality and customer service from Samsung.

Can’t seem to find anything on the Samsung sites showing that you can use two for a dual monitor set up (meaning 2 M8’s) running off one PC/laptop. Judging by the limited number of inputs, is this possible or is a secondary USB-C hub required and, if so, will it allow for both monitors to function separately, as opposed to mirroring? Sorry if I missed this somewhere in the comments. Thanks!!

    • @toxicturkeyy

It's a monitor, you can use two.
Ports depends on what you have, a laptop might need a hub, while a normal pc should only need an adapter and hopefully just some cables (though it depends on if you have micro-hdmi/usb-c on your gpu or motherboard.
Keep in mind that the usb-c on the motherboard might not be wired up to the igpu (which you would one of to use the motherboard ports unless you do gpu passthrough shit.

Full disclosure I’m not a fan of Samsung products I’ve had nothing but subpar experience with their electronics and appliances. Speaking of appliances when I was looking to acquire a refrigerator (of which Samsung was not a consideration) sales advisors in two big box retailers without provocation steered me away from Samsung.
That said IMO the M8 is targeted; not at “ProConsumers” with a need for video and/or photography editing, but more so to the everyday person using a monitor for document creation and on-line media consumption that happens to offer a Samsung TV experience.
The M8 (IMO) is an excellent choice as a shared family monitor, pre-teen/teen bedroom or college dorm room. It offers the needed productivity and entertainment solutions at an affordable price point. That IMO is the M8 niche. Reliability after a year is yet to be determined.

Hi M8 is the improved brightness, but the video port selection is not as good :-(.one hdmi port is even EARC with audio pass through.

Also on my M7 monitor, i have a lot of streaming apps that no longer work or are not available on Tizen but they work fine on my amazon firestick. Damn Tizen

Wonder if either of you could give me your opinion on the M7. My 2011 iMac is just about done, I have a Mac mini on the way and I’m leaning towards the M7 as my first monitor until I can upgrade. Coming from apple, I’m used to that glossy, high contrast display, but it is very old and 2560×1440 is definitely not the best. I know the M7 4k display will be a step in the right direction, but just curious on how you guys like the image quality. Did i Say the M7 also has both Google and Alexa assistant (i have not used them yet) as well as Bixby.
The speakers are also very very good, the only downside of M7 are the lack of Picture and Picture and Tizen OS which is more limited than Google TV/Fire OS (you cannot sideload app).
Also please note that i have a Samsung phone but even with android phones you can still access most of the features.
The image of the M7 is very good, and i use a single monitor on my desk (no dual monitor setup anymore)
SOrry it s a review of the M8 and M7, but i think Samsung did the same mistake on the M8 than they did on the Freestyle projector...

Lack of Z-Wave is not a big deal?
I think I'd disagree with you there.
I have a v3 SmartThings Hub and use a mixture of Zigbee and Z-Wave devices (Aeotec tend to favour Z-Wave for sensors). I also rely on Z-Wave for the power sensing outlet behind my TV because 915MHz doesn't interfere with the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in my home entertainment stack.
Dropping support for that is a very odd omission.
In fact, I can't for the life of me understand why they'd put a hub in the monitor and not include Zigbee and Z-Wave radios.

I agree with your points 100% But I don't think this monitor is for the American market imo. If I lived in South Korea with wifi brands like Tuya/Smart Life eco systems right out of China... I can tend to see why this would be made with WiFi in mind first and Zigbee second.
Very interesting they would cut out Zwave with their partner Aeotec being mainly Zwave... but then again Aeotec makes the hub.

Hey Alex I completely agree with you. I have always been a fan of Z-Wave and I think it’s better than ZigBee. When I said not including Z-Wave isn’t a big deal it’s because of who this SmartThings hub in the monitor is for.
People like you and I are going to use the v3 hub and get tons out of it by connecting Z-Wave and ZigBee devices. People who don’t have a hub and buy this monitor might be only looking to do a small amount of home automation. To those people I would say not having Z-Wave isn’t a big deal.
I don’t think SmartThings is dropping support for Z-Wave. There could be licensing/cost factors in this decision but I just wanted to clarify that I still like Z-Wave. I just think that it shouldn’t be a reason not to buy this monitor if home automation isn’t a top priority. I hope that makes sense.
Making videos is difficult because I have so many things I would like to say but sometimes I have to shorten what I say so people don’t get bored and drop off.

Thank you. This is the first great and realistic review of the m8. Finally !!! I really really appreciate it !!
Just a confirm about the remote if i can ask. Is it bluethoot ? Or i have to point it to the monitor?

    • @GreeniusGenius
      @GreeniusGenius 2 года назад +1

The remote is almost certainly bluetooth, because it has a microphone for voice assistants, and IR would not have good enough bandwidth and would not be a viable choice to transmit the recording.

You should always wait to the end of the video to post a comment. I was mid post to say I think you can just talk to the remote to change inputs when he states he found the solution.

tbh, some of the adjusting height is not a dealbreaker for me, my desk is adjustable... the cost is what I like over Apple overpriced display. I have a remote on my iphone called remote pro and it's freakin awesome... I never need a remote even on my iMac.
