    The fun thing about the painting is that they can always argue that the artist wasn't an expert in starships, so the phasers coming from nowhere could be blamed on "artistic licence"

      Yeah, the regular D is like a bodybuilder with his legs cut off at the knees LOL
      People have just gotten used to it but it IS horribly out of proportion.
      Almost universally hated when it first came out because it was so differently proportioned from the outstanding and elegant ship design that we had seen in the movies, the TNG Enterprise was compared unfavourably to pregnant sea animals with way too many and too large glowing animated blobs/ lights that had been engineered out of the movie era ships, or were integrated subtly behind grills that were just big cartoonish blobs all over on the new D, but over time we got accustomed to its face.
      But it still is an ungainly, unbalanced, ill-proportioned design.

    • @SirDobbsdaGr8
      @SirDobbsdaGr8 2 года назад +6

      From what I’ve interpreted so far, the idea of eradication is a fairly new concept for the Confederation. They’ve most likely been enslaving conquered species for a long time. Only saying they need to wipe out non humans when they’ve started to rebel against the Confederation. I could be wrong though

    • @RickySpanish12344
      @RickySpanish12344 2 года назад +11

      Different type of conflict. The Borg had to be eradicated, no survivors. The Vulcans on the other hand could be used as servants, workers etc. It would be like a country trying to invade another nation to control it vs just nuking it... Saw the Borg as a threat that must be destroyed while Vulcan had value and should be used as a commodity which would make it more difficult in some ways.

      Thats something i always wondred about since the mirror universe thing was born. Mankind heavily decimated in number thanks to world war 3 conquers the klingon and romulan empire quickly. @@wes528 Because the galaxy is iconic, and we watched it be a symbol of the best of the federation for 7 years. Turning it into a war crime machine feels like a deeper perversion of star trek than the other candidates, which is the point.
      The original stargazer is more obscure, and the new one has barely had a few minutes on screen. The sovereign would make more sense being more combat oriented, but I get the impression the world razer predated the design as the galaxy did in our timeline. In other words, it's a classic tool of genocide from the golden age of Picard's career of cleansing the galaxy of those filthy aliens.

    Moving parts on a spacecraft need to have a function to justify the weight/expense/internal space required to support it. A rotating habitation module to provide gravity, Voyagers variable warp geometry nacelles, Galactica's hanger bays retracting for a jump. So the wide grooves in the saucer must also have a purpose. In the concept art it looked to be forward and rear facing torpedo launchers inset to provide a flat face for the launcher hatches. The pointy things may be a new weapon or sensor system or even some kind of shield projector.
    Nice job as always guys

    I would've liked to see the phaser lances just inside the cutouts and the ship be designed kind of like a "sleeper" where it looked like a regular galaxy saucer (with the exception of the deflector, obviously) and the batwing bits extended out revealing the massive weapons (just how the original Galaxy had saucer separation as a "battle mode"). The confederation could have been "exploring" planets to conquer. An innocent looking explorer ship approaches a planet in the name of peace, then the big guns pop out and boom! We see plot devices like this from other races in Trek (like the original Orion, etc.) but it'd be interesting to see an alternate universe Earth/terran/hero crew use the tactic.

    Ok, now hear me out....! The impression I get from this, especially the concept art, is that the saucer is designed to detach a la the regular Galaxy class. The two sections on the edges of the saucer angle down about 45degress. And then a phaser on a long hose emerges from the top. It is used for atmospheric assaults to destroy ground targets, in a manner and as a nod to the War of the Worlds movie from the 1960s. It does in my head anyway!

      Far too many variables to make a comment like that, the size of the planet the composition of the atmosphere if any, planetary defence platforms or other types of shields, not to mention how many civilisations have we seen where they live underground?
      It could be something as simple that someone has developed a method to shoot down/negate incoming photon torpedoes much like the Patriot missile shoots down incoming cruise missiles.
      We also have seen a number of times that energy weapons are bounced back to its source, so Photon Torpedoes are definitely not a magic bullet.

The protection of the deflector dish seems very specific. Possibly some phaser "cannons" or lance as you said. Possibly with recessed phaser tracks giving optimal and redundant weapon systems. While the saucer looks advanced military the engineering and lower decks seem too simple and somewhat disappointing. What is undeniable is the forward fire power is extreme.

It feels more like someone was given a jpg of a Galaxy class, was told to make it "evil," and chopped that picture into this is a couple hours. Which, if it really only appears for 5 seconds as a painting, that's perfectly understandable. However, if it ends up showing up on screen later in the season, then I'll have a bigger problem with it. Its possible that the painting in itself is a propaganda piece and that the ship we see in it might not be exactly how it looked.

    I hate third the Third Nacelle on the Galaxy Dreadnought. It feels like something a kid would add to make a ship seem "cooler". Along with those spikey nonsense phasers.

    It sort of looks like perhaps the saucer sections may expand out over always being open in a "bat wing" format. Such as having it in "ambassador mode" at first contact. Then switch to Razer mode to obliterate an unsuspecting species.. wahahaha...

    just imagine the dominion war had 2 o4 galaxyclass war ships Deadnaughts. Each and every qubicmeter of the inside that was dedicated to science, families and what not military and swapable exchanged for selfcontained energygeneration that would feed sectionized layered shields and phaser arrays (imagine the powergeneration and weaponssystems of teh defiant class just stuffed 10-20 times into that dreadnaught) i bet that galaxyclass would even have wiped the floor with shinzons ship. and the first 5 meters of the hull just ablative armor or neutronium? haha got that would ve been a gamebreaker

    Man, I hate to be negative, but while this design process is interesting, to me it looks like image of an aggressive Galaxy Class went from arguable perfection as a sort of 'pre-Galaxy X' design to 'WTF', and 'how would that come to be?'. All I can say is that the painting does its job as being a disturbing visage of the familiar Galaxy class, but doesn't stand up to close scrutiny. The 'googly' looking neck version looks like the artist was trying to go for a 'cobra' menacing look, what with the huge Galaxy class oval shape to the primary hull being like a cobra's hood, with the 'neck' pylon trying to hammer that idea home. Unfortunately, while an understandable tactic, the pylon neck looked more goose than snake.
    Again, the pic does its job, so I guess it's a success, but I'm starting to understand why these ships can come to look so odd.

      It's a divergence rather than a mirror universe. It's "our" universe after an event that changed everything that happened after it.

    This looks like some kind of artistic impressionist idealized view of what a "Confederation" warship would look like. This, I hope, isn't what the actual warship looks like. I find it ridiculous looking but fun to think about the massively destructive potential of these advanced technologies but to the task of attack and submission vs exploration and research.

      why would you destroy stars?
      better to focus on eradicating inhabited worlds, so you can use the resources of other worlds orbiting their star for yourself.

    Windows on a war ship makes no sense. It weakens the hull.

    • @Jack_Stafford
      @Jack_Stafford 2 года назад

      Very true, that's why most new real warships have only the essential windows required for operation. Form follows function on a warship. You're not supposed to be standing there admiring the view, there is always work to be done on a ship.
