I actually was planning to do a Proof of a Hero video much later on, but it felt wrong to leave you guys hanging for too long after that Fatalis episode lol Hey, have you missed any of my MH music reactions? Look here in this playlist to see if there is any that you haven't watched yet: ruclips.net/p/PLOVEmfXEEAUDVVWP7ATa3e8jNOyX3Dv69
It's so neat to find someone who can take one of my favorite songs and put into words why it's so amazing. I really hope to eventually see you discuss one of the more traditional-sounding songs from Monster Hunter Rise. Edit: And how pleased I am to see you have already covered some Rise music!
@Davi Vasc could you also review the main theme of Monster Hunter World called "Pride of a Nameless Hunter"? and the theme of Iceborne called "Nay! The Honor is Hours?"
Proof of a Hero is the Hunter's theme. Everytime this song plays in the games, it lets you know that you're winning and are beating the impossible odds put before you. It really inspires the players to keep pushing to the end.
I still have no idea how but as soon as it kicks in people suddenly start playing better, it's absolute black magic, maybe you don't want to let the music down?
@@sharkymcshank7777 that happens a lot with narwa the all mother, but that monster becomes absolutely crazy at the same time proof of a hero starts playing, maybe she's listening to the music too
My favorite thing about Proof of a Hero is how rare you actually get to hear it in any of the monster hunter games, unlike other iconic video game theme songs where you just get to hear it all the time even when you are just staring at the main menu. Proof of a Hero only plays when you are tired, exhausted, desperate, hopeless and out of options on your toughest hunt that demands every last ounce of your skills as a hunter, the theme kicks in at the most important and intense moment of the hunt to give you the final boost of energy and courage to finish the monster, to proof you earned the title of a true hero. If they use it in every single hunt then this song definitely wouldn’t have the same amount of impact. It really shows the importance of restraint when it comes video game themes, just because you have an epic theme doesn’t mean you have to shove it up people’s ear all the time.
My absolute favorite part of Proof of a Hero is the horn rally at 0:27. One thing I've always loved about Proof of Hero when compared to other games' main themes is the fact that it typically doesn't play on the title screen or in an opening cinematic; rather, it's played at the "turning point" late in a climactic hunt: the final stand at the fortress against Lao-Shan Lung, hitting Gogmazios with the Demolisher cannon, destroying the Empress's Throne in the battle against Ahtal-Ka, knocking down All-Mother Narwa with a Mounted Finisher, or in this case, hitting Fatalis with the Dragonator. It makes perfect sense that the song would begin with the rallying call of a horn as a boost to the player's morale and a prelude to the brass coming in with the melody. Not all versions of the song have the horn rally, but one that's worth mentioning is the version from Rise, which, while lacking the horn rally, instead has an extended drum rally to fit with its Japan-inspired setting.
I can't remember since it was so long ago but I'm pretty sure it did in Freedom 1. I liked it though, got stuck in my head. (I could be wrong but I played freedom 1,2,U and I do think it was played on the title or character select screen on one of them)
It does actually play on the title screen, for a good like half the series at least, it just ALSO gets used for those tense moments and is typically better remembered for those than for the title theme, because yeah, it plays on the title screen in Freedom, Freedom 2, Freedom Unite, MH3, MH4, and MHX, and I think maybe in some older ones, though I sure as hell don't remember because it's been WAY too long lmao
The first time I almost solo Fatalis, he took my last cart because when "proof of a hero" started playing and I was like "OMG I'm almost there" and then I fainted 😂
One of the very few pieces of music that can get a lot of people to feel powerful and hopeful. The main theme of the title of the first game, and the main theme definitely for the series. Thank you so much for this in-depth analysis!
There's magic in this song btw Every time the first four notes starts to play All hunters will get goosebumps, adrenaline and fearless and they are ready to take on whatever creature that faces them
Quite possibly the best “epic” music ever used in video games. I also find that the title of the song means so much. It’s not just some theme, or some character’s melody, it’s literally “the proof of a hero”. It’s not so much a song but the announcement from on high, a declaration to say this moment right here is what made you a hero. It’s almost as if the horns and cymbal crash that precede the orchestra (@ 0:35) are there like an official declaration to get the attention of everyone to take notice that the impossible happened and the hero was just forged. Then the orchestra kicks in like an anthem of respect for what was accomplished.
I love proof of the hero. Even to this day I tear up from excitement when it comes up in the fatalis fight. It gives you the motivation to finish the fight with a heroic climax.
Fun fact: The Iceborne Proof of a Hero is the exactly the same one used in the first Monster Hunter game. That's right it's not the Iceborne Proof of a Hero. They just reprised the original
Of the 'wonder of nature' aspect of Monster Hunter, I think Ceadeus is the best theme I've heard. It sounds like it's completely removed from every other area, it's not a malicious entity, or a fast paced fight, it's the marvel of a beautiful creature, the tragedy of slaying it, all with the catchy chanting that kind of accepts the need to fight it, the action of the fight that is there, and a sense of communal reverence for it.
The song always playing at the turning point of a fight. Often, by that point, you have used several supplies. You are on your last few Potions, a few Drugs left and likely not even at full health from being beaten down repeatedly. For some they might even be on their last cart. Then you hear it, the music. The build up as you rise to your feet again and the trumpets which carry your charge. You have heard the songs of monsters Hunter, now let them hear yours.
The emphasis part you highlighted at 1:00, when the horns come in, but there's no instruments backing them, giving them the sole focus... Over the years of making music, I've noticed the impact created by dropping the full ensemble JUST off the first measure really gives such a powerful feeling. It does an incredible job of raising the feel of tension, expecting for the drop to come on cue, but then pulls back a little, increasing the tension and expectation further, til it all comes together, OFF of the 1, the first cute point we'd expect the drop to be on. I think of it as "extending the storm", from the phrase "the calm before the storm." Great breakdown, Davi 👍 This is definitely one of the most impactful and iconic scores ever created for a video game, IMO.
This theme is simply incredible, like God-like tier. And you perfectly explain it, expecially about the conjunction between "the call to adventure" and the "being part of a big living ecosystem". If I can suggest, for the next monster hunter video I'd suggest the Safi'jiva theme or the Shara Ishvalda theme 2.
As someone who haven't yet got the chance to use the dragonator on Fatalis I feel like this Proof of a Hero is going to make one of the most epic moments of my existence
If you are with those songs I recommend you listen, not necessarily react but listen to "Stars At Our Backs" - "Nay! The Honor Is All Hours" - "Lights That's Passed On" - "To Those Alive".
that moment in monster hunter tri when rathalos flips lagiacrus and goes full drone shot on the world and the music still gives me chills to this day, thanks for pointing that
I also have notice on the newest's themes the change of being a natural world to a more energy and power world. This is why i love the first games themes, couse they where like being in a jurassic world with his animals and fauna. Pure nostalgia
You know, it's the starting flutes of Proof of Hero that gets me. Like. Whatever might have going down before, it doesn't matter. There's a sudden change in the atmosphere. The heat in the room has died, giving chills, but things are too lively to be cold. And the reason why is so blatantly mind numbingly bluntly obvious to see: A Hero has emerge amidst ourselves. We can't believe it, but, something we did was worthy of legends to be passed down through the ages. The rest of the song is just you cementing that every hope for this moment was worth the wait.
Oi Davi. This could definitely be a movie soundtrack. I totally agree with the feeling of riding a horse. It almost sounds like the opening theme of a Western. You really made me smile with your “I should maybe use a different finger” - thanks for leaving that in the video! Thanks, as always :)
This was such a wonderful breakdown of Proof Of A Hero. Made me srsly appreciate the theme even more. Your explanation with fifths being a major part of the theme and how it's also a part of the start quest horn sound was legit mindblowing to me.
I had never played Monster Hunter until World, but I absolutely can say I wish I had gotten into this series earlier. Proof of A Hero is hands down one of the best, if not the best, themes I've ever heard in a game.
When I was hunting fatalis in iceborne i failed a alot. Lots of carting lots of potions and whetstones. But when I finally pushed far enough to get the dragonator in, this song helped me take those final steps through the finish line. It's something I'll never forget.
I feel your pain. I only managed to create the Fatalis Gunlance from the scraps I pick up from the ground and broken parts lmao. Getting the evil eye makes me feel like the game was pitying me LOL
Great analysis as always. I especially like the wildlife documentary part because l love the heroic vibe in this piece and at the same time I feel the tender vibe which is a respect for the all living things. Proof of a Hero is a great morale booster for me both in my playthrough and my acutual life. Thank you for this amazing video!
I genuinely get chills every time I hear this song man. Its just so god damned good. As soon as those trumpets start its just goosebumps and chills, and I fucking love it. To me this song just *is* Monster Hunter, it feels heroic, strong, nostalgic, and inspirational, like with just the song playing we as humans, nay, Hunters can do anything! It just feels....like Monster Hunter! Its also still one of the few song that will make me tear up with just pure instrumental power. (The other ones also being from MH lol) Words can't really do it justice on how amazing this song is to me. I really don't know what it is, but this song just makes me feel so emotion in such a good way, I basically never cry tears of joy but this song, and even just talking about it makes me tear up in pure happiness every single time. And I fucking love it. On another note, two other MH songs that would be great to analyze would be "Nay the honor is all ours!" And "Secession of light" they're very similar to Proof of a Hero in terms of pure emotional power
Thanks for doing this, I didn't know until you pointed it out that this song and ride of the valkyries song had similarities. Both songs are very epic and iconic
hearing this song gives me chills. I've been with the franchise since freedom 2. Love the video, love the music. I think itd be cool to look at the Theme for Dire Miralis, it really stands out amongst the Franchise`s many OSTs. Good work on the video, keep it up man.
I don't know alot about music but what you said makes a lot of sense especially the first explaination from 1:00, I know the melody but somehow I don't recall the thing they do right before
thank you for confirming that the "hunters depart" tune is indeed a 5th. when you were talking about 5ths, the depart theme came to mind and i thought i was going to have to ask in the comments
This is not only the "Iceborne" version, this pretty much is the classic "Proof of a Hero" that exists since the first game unchanged. It is definitely without a doubt one of the great tunes of gaming. However: There is a part of the tune that is usually omitted from the version that plays during combat. It is a serenely beautiful part that plays after the first half which you discussed here. It is definitely worth a listen and a reaction.
i just did the rampage mission of wind serpent ibushi in mh rise and at some point of the mission proof of a hero bega to sound and it got animated through the rest of the mission, that song began to energized me, it is officially one of my favorist songs jo matter the version
You're spot on with your description of the hunter being portrayed as one component of a larger whole in Tri, and with your comments about Ceadeus in that video. That sense of the natural world going through the rhythms of its equilibrium is my favorite thing about Monster Hunter, and I love that worldbuilding whenever the games manage to capture it once again. And I just can't stand it when the developers miss the point of their own series and portray monsters as 'evil' or 'demonic.' It just feels wrong.
love this theme! feels so heroic and gives so much motivation, i love playing with it in the backround. glad you anallyzed it! would love to see you analyze nergigante's theme someday, just got to his fight a few days ago in world and it's prob my favorite theme in the game atm
“The Stars at our Backs” combines the ‘call to adventure’ and ‘awe of nature’ themes very beautifully! Less of a ‘call to adventure’, and more of an ‘amazing discovery’ feeing. The feeling of discovering a New World to explore. It’s something I like to listen to on those rare nights that I can see the stars
I love this so much, this theme is so iconic. I'd love to see you rate all the versions of Proof of a Hero like you did the ratings of Village themes :D I feel like each version of Proof of a Hero perfectly represents their games (XX being my personal favorite) so I'm interested to see what's your favorite and why :D
This vid' has some really interesting parts. In Fatalis reaction, I asked about "how do developpers associate vocals with something / How do they know we'll feel that way?" and this one is like an instant answer! x'D I really enjoyed the part about Wagner, and the one about culture and feeling. Those are topics I'm really interested in, but never really manage to study. I'll pay even more attention to all these "sad / hero / ??" chord you put here and there! Still having a hard time figuring what part you're counting when listening to the themes! I'll manage to hear it someday!
Proof of a Hero in my opinion is the best Monster Hunter theme, it always makes people feel powerful and can overcome anything. Monster Hunter wouldn't be Monster Hunter without it. With that being said, perhaps we could get a reaction to the Bloodbath Diablos theme in the future. If there's any theme in Monster Hunter that would be Proof of a Hero's polar opposite, Bloodbath Diablos might be it.
This is one of these themes that always gets me pumped and smiling no matter how bad a hunt is going. From Jhen Morahns final stand to now, this is always a highlight for me!
The adrenaline that rushes through your body, when this soundtrack starts to play in the Fatalis fight, in incredible. You know that you are close to winning a very hard fight and the music makes it so much more tense!
"It's the Iceborne version of the song" which is just a more modern reorchestration of the first theme in the first game trailer. Nostalgia hits hard man...
No other song in the series can make you be in the pits of despair asking "Will this monster ever die" and immediately upon hearing it quickly go to "let's do this!"
I once heard that proof of a hero is the gods picking up hunting horns and singing tales about your hunter As someone that dragonatored zorah right in the buildup of the song i can confirm
Today I slayed fatalis THREE TIMES IN A ROW... SOLO This is a great video for me to unwind with. And I wouldn't have been able to do it without proof of a hero.
Monster Hunter World/Iceborne was the first Monster Hunter game I had ever played so when Proof of a Hero Played, I felt like I knew the full history of its world and why I must make it through this battle. Also, my first thought when hearing it was, "Is this Superman's Theme!?"
The national anthem. Whenever I hear the 1,2-3 beating at the opening I want to start running. Fast. I totally agree with the old music looks like made for a documentary and I love it.
I actually was planning to do a Proof of a Hero video much later on, but it felt wrong to leave you guys hanging for too long after that Fatalis episode lol

Thanks for doing this, I didn't know until you pointed it out that this song and ride of the valkyries song had similarities. Both songs are very epic and iconic
I hear a loot of Wagner in MH music
I miss the days it gives me so much chills.
But now I don't feel the same anymore :(
hearing this song gives me chills. I've been with the franchise since freedom 2. Love the video, love the music. I think itd be cool to look at the Theme for Dire Miralis, it really stands out amongst the Franchise`s many OSTs. Good work on the video, keep it up man.
Thank you friend! Miralis has been suggested a lot, I'll definitely do it!
A fantastic piece, I love the war horns, very appropriate! I love the sense of adventure and heroism that this song inspires. Thanks Davi!
Thank you for watching Abigail!
when proof of hero played in background that time the hunters gain invincibility
Silence before power is like taking your breath before shouting.
This song gives me an ungodly amount of nostalgia
This is not only the "Iceborne" version, this pretty much is the classic "Proof of a Hero" that exists since the first game unchanged. It is definitely without a doubt one of the great tunes of gaming.
However: There is a part of the tune that is usually omitted from the version that plays during combat. It is a serenely beautiful part that plays after the first half which you discussed here. It is definitely worth a listen and a reaction.
Never seen a ludomusicology youtuber, im all for it!
*lost in music land*
That happened to me first time I beat Fatalis. I'll forever love Monster Hunter because of that.
It happens to me like everyday, haha. I have to consciously fight it otherwise I don't get anything done
Since you brought it up here, I would love to see you doing that reaction/analysis about the main theme of Monster Hunter tri/3U
I would love that too. It's gonna happen!
Me: "It sounds like a canter."
Davi: "Almost like a horse ride."
I just noticed the fifth note you mentioned is exactly the same with the horn sound we hear while we start a quest.
Nice video.
i just did the rampage mission of wind serpent ibushi in mh rise and at some point of the mission proof of a hero bega to sound and it got animated through the rest of the mission, that song began to energized me, it is officially one of my favorist songs jo matter the version
You are the youtuber then i need in my life
Thanks bro I gotchu
love this theme! feels so heroic and gives so much motivation, i love playing with it in the backround. glad you anallyzed it!
would love to see you analyze nergigante's theme someday, just got to his fight a few days ago in world and it's prob my favorite theme in the game atm
Nergigante would be fun to do a video on. Thank you for suggesting it!
Amazing analysis on this amazing song, this music give me so much energy when it starts, waiting for some love to the Deviljho theme song.
Deviljho is definitely going to happen!
@@DaviVasc amazing 🤜🤛
Oooh a ranking video of proof of a hero themes is such a good idea!
Every single time i listen to this theme, i get goosebumps. EVERY SINGLE TIME.❤
It’s the build up, the scenario the fight you’re having is what brings this music to live
I can’t wait for the Alatreon theme
it's coming
This vid' has some really interesting parts. In Fatalis reaction, I asked about "how do developpers associate vocals with something / How do they know we'll feel that way?" and this one is like an instant answer! x'D
I really enjoyed the part about Wagner, and the one about culture and feeling. Those are topics I'm really interested in, but never really manage to study. I'll pay even more attention to all these "sad / hero / ??" chord you put here and there!
Still having a hard time figuring what part you're counting when listening to the themes! I'll manage to hear it someday!
Another great analysis of a great song
Thank you friend
The feeling of pulling the Dragonator for the first time and having this music play is something only MH can create.
2 min later you carted 3 times in a raw casue you start playing recklessly.
Love playing this as a clarinet and flute player bc every trill just gives me MORE POWER
I found your channel like two months ago, and spend an hour searching for this
Can't wait to see you cover Namielle's theme!
Me neither!
Awesome suggestion, thanks!
Everytime I hear this theme it sends a shiver down my whole body an I get goosbumps! Thats how good the memories connected with it are.
POAH is literally every positive buff in the game being applied to the hunter x1000000 and gives the player the power of “Motivation”
I will never forget the 3 Hunting Horns -mains- Gods that helped me beat the Molten Tigrex quest online.
"It's the Iceborne version of the song" which is just a more modern reorchestration of the first theme in the first game trailer. Nostalgia hits hard man...
Proof of a hero makes me tear up for some reason.
It's like. A call to Heroism an awakening to courage.
same
No other song in the series can make you be in the pits of despair asking "Will this monster ever die" and immediately upon hearing it quickly go to "let's do this!"
I once heard that proof of a hero is the gods picking up hunting horns and singing tales about your hunter
As someone that dragonatored zorah right in the buildup of the song i can confirm
best video game music hands down
When this kicks in during the Fatalis fight its and instant adreniline rush combines with an extra 20 bpm on your heart. LOVE IT
This is the music the monsters hear when they fight the hunter
Today I slayed fatalis THREE TIMES IN A ROW... SOLO
This is a great video for me to unwind with.
And I wouldn't have been able to do it without proof of a hero.
That is impressive!
The fatalis proof if a hero was the MH1 Version.
That is correct
@@DaviVasc Wow a reply! Wasn't expecting that! Thanks!
Finally, thanks for another masterpiece.
Thanks, Zaebi!
* Poah starts playing *
**SHAPRNESS INFINITY**
**HP AND STAMINA DECREASE DISABLED**
Who remembers the exact moment when you hit the switch and landed the Dragonator?
Monster Hunter World/Iceborne was the first Monster Hunter game I had ever played so when Proof of a Hero Played, I felt like I knew the full history of its world and why I must make it through this battle. Also, my first thought when hearing it was, "Is this Superman's Theme!?"
I really enjoy your content dude. You always seem so exited to talk about Music.
I am. I'm happy you guys care about it as much as me.
most iconic game sound for me
The national anthem. Whenever I hear the 1,2-3 beating at the opening I want to start running. Fast.
I totally agree with the old music looks like made for a documentary and I love it.
Yeah, man I miss that more benevolent nature vibe in MH music
Dans Proof of a her il y a aussi les influences de Prokofiev, Stravinsky, Rachmaninov ! Excellent ce compositeur japonais.
I only have the base game of Monster Hunter World, but when I get Iceborne I can't wait to talk on Fatalis.
I always get those nostalgic goosebumps from this amazing piece lol
This is not a song. It's an anthem. And another great case in which music is able to unite (Ha! Get it?) a lot of people. I just love it.
proof of a hero is just godly specially the iceborne and rise version
The iceborne is the mh1 but hq
