It's really good to see probably the longest-serving machine on Larson's Farms in action. I'm talking about Dougo's broom, he's owned it for over 35 years and it's completely original. Apart from six new broom heads and two new handles..😯😯
When you are asking about changing the U-joints, put it in the vice like you had it or put it on blocks of wood on the floor and don't be afraid to hit it hard with a big hammer, sometimes the caps are pretty tight, you won't damage anything and no need for a special tool.
You can get a plastic protective ring that goes around your lug nuts so that the impact socket does not ding up your rim when removing lug nuts.
Man you guys are a big outfit Alot of big bucks spent on Equipment and Buildings ..I love that shop !!
Glad you guys take good care of your trucks and get them inspected.
Ok Chet get out the mothers polish. Tanks wheels pipes grill on big black. Great to hear farmer dot trucks. I've drove since 1980 to 2020 many miles.
I just saw you site a few days ago, I really enjoy everything you do, reminds me of similar stuff I did quite a while ago. I’m 82!,
Hi guys, treat yourselves to a ride on floor scrubber you've earned it 👍
My dad has been doing u-joints and drivelines for 50 years. He will get a kick out of this video. At least you are using Spicer Joints. I’m enjoying this a little too much, I think!
After you raised the front of the truck I would have put some hard wood cribbing under it in case the jacks failed.
Good video Chet - enjoy watching you and Erik with a "K" working together, and I needed Dougo's broom lesson. LOL
Tell Dougo to buy a bigger floor sweep. It will save more money in the long run.
Word of advice from a former diesel mechanic put a little oil on the lug nut ring and threads it increases the torque value and helps condition the metal
Chet, I'm going to give you some advice that you're probably going to ignore just like I did when I was younger. You should consider wearing hearing protection when you're running air tools, I've been turning wrenches most of my life and I was recently informed at the age of 37 that I have lost about 40 percent of my hearing in my left ear.
Wise words sir! Eye protection too, you only get one set of each!
He’s right.
What? What was that I could not hear you lol!! I'm 42 been working with and around air tools for a long time myself and I have not lost my hearing but it's a good idea but once in a while without it won't hurt ya
Yes I agree, Hearing protection, eye protection and mechanics gloves.
I too enjoy these sessions, no matter what the content. Chet presents every video very professional!! My favourite channel!!
Great video Chet
One of the nicest shops I've seen.
-Minnenowhere
The shot from inside the pit was epic! Great work here.
Just amazing that you will tackle almost anything. Save money and you make sure it’s done right. Erik’s a character - good catch.
It is a pleasure watching your videos!
Might be a good idea and buy your dad a newer bigger floor scrubber. Would be a huge surprise and great gift. Just a thought. Stay safe
All of your truck are nice, but big black is definitely my favorite. I'm glad you guys work on everything yourselves. Saves tons of money
You need to get Dougo an iRobot Roomba vacuum to turn loose in the shop to keep it clean. Great videos Thanks stay safe
Big black is a hot rod and I applaud you guys for your tedious maintenance
Great video in so may ways. And the editing....love Big Black coming out of the light and through the door. Very keew!
On the ujoints, use vise to squeeze instead of hammer, you'll minimize the risk of dislodging needle bearings. Use socket to push out bearing caps.
Awesome vid. More Big Swede and Chet bantering back and forth would be great!
I love your videos. I'm a retired engineer and am really impressed by how today's farmer has to be so knowing of everything from IT to engineering. PS I always watch the adds as I know it helps your cash flow.
I know I’m late to the party but but a TIGER TOOL ujoint press, use one at work regularly. Works amazing. Tiger tool makes a bunch of hd tools for industrial work
Its great this young man takes a intrest in what others has done before him and wants to learn. Great job dad in teaching the next generation. Im proud of you both. Great content
I sure do love your shop bro having that pit is a true blessing for working on big equipment you rock man you don't play you get it done👍👍👍👍👊👊
Terrific video Chet! We really enjoyed it!! Good job Nikki!!!
We just recently got a Belgium made Tour coach Vanhool it came with two blocks of wood with carry handles plus a bracket for jacking front axil that bolted on with 4 wheel nuts that would take the jack externally so if front tyre flat and no room to get under.
Your videos are getting better, huge fan. Nice time lapse on the floor cleaner. At my old job, we called that the Zamboni. It's cool to see who is growing the corn and beans in our great country!
Glad to see you're feeling good still I like how that fertilizer manure spreader worked on the corn stalks glad to see you working on the old international again
We use different lingo here in Australia.. U joint we call Uni,s or Universal joint . I like Dougos cleaning ethics with the broom . Also that's a very sensible attitude with the maintenance on the machinery . Fix things before they become a major and very expensive issue . Also avoids the truck being put of the road by the authorities . Great vlog thanks for sharing
Your definitely an interesting and funny guy Chet, first time viewing your videos, from what I can tell so far, your a hard working young man whoa not afraid to learn and do whatever it takes, its fairly impressive to see. I love all the banter between you and your dad and others, very refreshing, I love our farmers there the best of what America has to offer.
Very good idea with dropping the air before putting steer axle on jack stands. Something I have gotten very use to doing. Same goes for when you unhook trailers, drop the air suspension (if able too) before unhooking to eliminate stress on landing gear.
Chet I’m so impressed with your shop and the quality of service you maintain when you don’t have to. I’ve been a driver for a long time and I wouldn’t think twice to drive one of your Pete’s! 👍😇😉. In fact I’d Love the chance to drive Black 32. Sweet truck dude. Stay safe and God Bless your family Chip
As always love every single one of your guises videos hope to one day meet you guys in person
Nice shop filled with nice equipment 👍
Always fun watching your videos! I'm guessing you all get alot of enjoyment and sense of accomplishment from being a part of a family owned and operated farming operation. I enjoy Dougo's sense of humor and Chet does a good job on the video and commentating. It's nice to see you involving the other family members too. Keep up the good work and always be careful working on and around the equipment!
I love hearing those diesel tractors, good job !
Can you please tell the specs of that building?!?!?! I’ve never seen a farm building where you can open up a big planter and leave it hooked to the tractor INSIDE the door!!! I think that shop and how versatile it is, and how you use it could be the star of a video some time. I’ve seen airplane hangers that aren’t as big as your shop. That shop ROCKS!!
Check out our shop tour video.
There is a tool that makes changing u-joints easy. We use it in truck shop, easy & safe. Driveshafts are not as heavy as you made it seam, I’d do it alone, I’m 130 lbs 5’9”. The u-joint I think is called a “tiger tool”, ask a truck mechanic how to do it right, to make easier next time also, anti-seize is a mechanics friend for next time repairs. Like your channel, hope spring work starts soon, I hope to be helping on farm in 2 weeks if weather warms up. Thanks.
Use ballpoint press for u-joints. Works amazing
Look up tiger tool for u joints if you have not yet. Also there are what Snapon and matco call driveline sockets. Worth their weight in gold. Farm on boys
Thanks for the video Chet, appreciate the links to the one inch impacts and the tire dolly! You guys have been busy can't wait to see the planter in action with all its new upgrades!! I think it's pretty cool you take the time to paint the tires. Looks great on them sharp ass trucks, stay safe and have a great Easter weekend..
We used sweeping compound on the concrete floors when we had fine dust. Made from sawdust and a special oil. Sprinkle it over the area and sweep through it.
You can always add more air tanks for your air compressor.
I love your shop I like the way you all keep your equipment clean
Nice Harper broom! They are the best!
Yes i agreed you need a u joint puller "tiger tool" Farming Fixing and Fabricating used one. Made the job easier. Good video!
Jack stands. We also change front shocks every time we replace steers.
Another very well done video. I just really enjoy watching Chet, Dougo & the big Swede doing their thing. Keep the great content coming guys and I am looking forward to the next one.
You reminded me of how Minnesota you guys really are when you started to paint the letters on the tires.
You can use an old air tank (that holds air) from one of your trucks as a buffer close to your air tool. Put it on a cart and and you have a "boost" to your air tools and won't need to upgrade your compressor.
Get a OTC 5190A u joint tool and a Speciality Heavy Centering Tool kit 32111 for your front tires and wear hearing protection
Great videos!!
When Putting tires on like that, torque them down, then 160 miles later, do it again, tighten those bolts, do a re-torque. That is law we have in Canada for truck tires, you folks should do that also. It is all about safety.
I used the Tiger Tool.. but you can use a vice also. Those are half round u-joints. Usually they are not too bad but have seen them separate when you try to drive the puck out. Great video
Your floors are cleaner than most supermarkets today 💖
Y'all need to retrofit an old Zamboni for the shop floor. LoL
I was thinking a fresh dust mop would be great for picking up that dust, you just gotta make sure and wash the head... too many people just let it get saturated with dust and never wash it out
Nice to see you guys working together and still thinking safety.
Dougo, why not invest in floor bane? Keeps the dust down when sweeping, and polishes the floor as well! Just an idea
Kaeser sx7 air compressor. Quiet, low maintenance, extremely dependable. When you do upgrade get the best.
You should check into centramatics auto tire balancers decreases the wear on your tractor tires significantly. I ran them for years on my drives and steers. Saved me a good amount of money.
The shop in clara city at the truck stop does a very good job at alignments.
Make sure you check the lug nut holes for cracking aluminum bud wheels are prone to crack there and use a wire wheel on the back side of it to clean off all corrosion to see if there is cracks starting on the side that sits agains the break drum / hubs and for a alignment take it to ok tire commercial center in Fargo ND they do it right the first time
cole the corn star best farming videos
Hey my young brother I am a new subscriber love your shop man and I love that big rig that is a super sled those West Coast bumpers look really nice and it ain't hard to get those banged up and you're right it don't leave you much room to work but damn they look awesome and it looks like you stay pretty busy my young bro can't wait to see some more of your videos glad to be here y'all stay safe and keep that shiny side up and that dirty side down hammer down big rigger👍👍👍👍👊👊✊✊
Superb stuff as always
Great sound quality for engines of tractors and trucks.
There are usually circlips on the , holding the yoke and cap inserts together so that they are fixed together and dont spin apart when flexing and so on.

You guys have a Zamboni! Cool... 🙂. You know, I think I speak for many people when I say, I am somewhat envious of your family! I grew up in a nuclear family, parents married until death did them part in their mid-eighties, five kids, and loved having that growing up and through my adulthood until we lost them. I know farming is hard work, but having your parents there every day, working together and having the fulfillment of what you are accomplishing- that is just priceless...two people making a commitment, having children who grow up and start taking over responsibilities as their parents grow older, and another generation coming along behind- that is truly the American dream, or any other country for that matter...
Of course, I can also imagine the screaming resentment of a child/adolescent/teenager hating the hard work, the long hours, rebelling against it- I'm sure this happens, and sometimes turns into appreciation as young adulthood arrives and the knowledge of getting out in the world and those inherent challenges sinks in... I'll bet there are a lot of those stories...
Have you ever tried using wheel chucks on the front and backside of the drive tires to keep it from rolling forward while it’s been on jacks
You need to buy 2 bobsweep pro robotic vacuum's and 2 bobsweep pro robotic moppers to clean the shop during the night. So you don't have to worry about doing it and eating up so much of your time. I bought 2 vacuum's and 2 mops and it has saved me so much time. I have been using them in my fabrication shop for 5 months now best purchase I have made in along time.
Yea the tiger tool is so awesome great buy was best investment for removing all the drive line parts.
Liked the video and the shop is absolutely fantastic. Keep those videos coming feller. Be glad when this corn teen is over😜
I would also look at the king pins on the truck after seeing the tire wear.
Need a tiger tool for that u joint
Honestly looking at it the trailer is dog walking. needs a trailer alignment.
if his dad is like my dad he thing he is the King-pin here lol
its cheep for them just pay a new truck lol
Enjoyed this video great shop time THANKS !!
@5:37 Dougo gives instruction on the operation of a broom!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😎✔👌
When your tires cup like that you need shocks. So far as alignment take it to a frame shop, and get a three axle alignment. Tire places line it up just enough for you to come back
Instructions by Dougo.lol gotta love them both Chet and Dougo
5/8 Plywood, not particle/chip board, would seem to work well in about 2 to 3 foot sections for ease of removal and you only need to remove the cover where the work is.
Dan S Don’t mess around. Go with 3/4”.
The easiest way to change u-joints like those is to park it not over a pit and remove the bolts holding the full round caps on and use a hydraulic jack and jack on the yoke and push the cap out. turn the drive shaft 180 degrees and do the same on the other side. Then you can just remove the u-bolts holding the 1/2 round ones and change it right on the truck.
Enjoy watching all your videos!!
Chet check out farming fixing and fabricating on you tube and see the tool he has for drive shafts and also for king pin removal.
Damn, That is a beautiful Peterbuilt. Complete with sleeper.
The right tools will make even the most difficult job actually be like a hot knife thru butter. Thanks Chet...take care.
That is one beautiful shop, and you guys take great pride in keeping it clean and organized!!
I know you are all used to the open pit, but I get nervous every time I see someone walk by it. None of my business, but I saw a guy fall into one once and it wasn't pretty.
Beautiful shop guys.
Tiger tool joint press. All u joint crosses have to be phased to keep from binding.
The do make a special tool for changing u-joints the other way that we always did them in the truck shop is using a couple of 4x4's and a hammer
Md alignment, Des Moines,Iowa. On there web site they sell a book for DIY alignments. Not a lot of tools needed. Y’all can do it in your shop. It’s for over the road trucks like your Peterbilt’s, try it. Might be a whole lot cheaper.
Chet will you ever have successful farming come to your shop for top shop tour
Great video. They make a tool, a puller, to help with those u joints. You're awesome
i noticed that your pit has no safety barrier around it to stop people falling in it
Dougo knows how to sweep that’s a professional for sure!!
You should always mark the drive shaft to put it back together the same way just a yellow cran will work
Defo check the king pins in that truck Chet I'll bet there's a lot of play in them fella that's why them tyres will be rubbing off as they are bud.cud be abit of the alignment too but please check king pins and let us all know what they are like please bud!!??!!👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧🚜👌🏻also look at farm fixing.fabricating RUclips get a tiger tool or we use to use a socket in a vice on the floor or a press bud.
I second that Ear plugs
