Are these college kids stupid? 40 shots in a short amount of time? That’s alcohol poisoning!
Edit ***"these college kids*** was not referred to the victim, but to his peers who may or may not understand drinking. I wrote this comment with anger towards the victim's peers. My apologies to everyone who misinterpreted my comment and hurt them or caused misunderstanding in the process. This is an unfortunate case with so much sadness. What was supposed to be, was taken away too soon. Prayers and love to friends and family of the victim.

As a college professor, I'm horrified. I look at my students as my academic children. I lost a student to a terrible allergic reaction to medication. She had a stroke and died at 21. I could barely keep my composure as I sat in audience at her funeral. I still can't believe that lovely and wonderful young woman is gone. It's heartbreaking. Hazing has to stop. Our children are the most precious people on the earth. I never want to watch another student be taken away. It's awful and crushing.

@Jesus' Body seems like you’re more of a Pharisee type than knowing anything about Jesus...
I’m not a Christian, in part due to the evil rhetoric spewed by people like you. You’re helping satan out more than Jesus, ever consider that? Satan seduces with hatred and self righteous judgement...Jesus demonstrated love and grace.
Jesus hung out with the tax collector, spoke to and listened to the prostitute, his example was one of humility, kindness, connection and compassion.
You might want to revisit what it’s all about, the fruits of the spirit, working on your own stuff.
You can NOT simultaneously judge and love someone.
What’s it going to be? What changes the world more?
What would you want from someone else? Judgment or love.
God is love. At least try to be more of that.

    • @Alphacentauri819
      @Alphacentauri819 3 года назад +21

@Jesus' Body I said nothing about how someone feels.
It’s about YOU, whether you are extending grace, love etc.
Plus YOU know nothing about their relationship with god.
ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALLEN SHORT.
      That includes YOU.
God didn’t ask for YOU to be the judge, I’m pretty sure he’s got that covered. So, quit trying to usurp his job, look how that turned out for satan.
      Work on you.
Your love will convince others of a god that exists...far more than your hypocritical self righteousness.
You’re doing a great job being satans right hand man. Unwittingly,
You need a redo of your heart.
I’m not Christian...yet, I have more love, more divine, because I’m not fundamentally bound by rhetoric and propaganda. I believe in god being love and of redemption and relationship.
      Your approach is anti-love, anti-connection, anti-relationship.
Consider your actual goals and how you’re obstructing them.
Self awareness and general spiritual awareness seems acutely off your radar. Wake up.

You can teach someone all the good and upright things about acceptance and navigating early adulthood, but they're still going to be pressured in some ways or go into something thinking it's one thing and it turns out to be something else. And kids going into college are going to naturally take more risk and explore different things. You'd have to delete social media and ban partying to stop this behavior. I don't think education can help (D.A.R.E and S.A.N.E. sure didn't, altho those were for drugs, not alcohol)...but I don't know what preventative systems can be put into place to prevent hazing. I think when it comes down to safety and life or death situations, parents still have a responsibility. I'm 28 but if I was going to make a life threatening decision my dad would step in, and I would want him to. Otherwise he's there for advice, support and a listening ear. Yes, they need to learn lessons and make decisions for themselves, but if they can't see the dangers in what they're doing, and the parent does, they still have something to teach and responsibility to uphold. Now I don't have children, but I can say I would rather make an executive decision or overstep with my child (adult or otherwise) and have them still be around even if they hate me for it, than to let them make a decision and lose them to it.

It’s insane to me that everyone wants to blame the frat, but not the grown man who took the shots?? Obviously frats are stupid and toxic, but that guy had the ability to say NO. His parents are to blame for not instilling character in him. It’s pretty obvious the parents are crappy because the mom KNEW what was going on and did nothing. It’s very clear in this situation that this young man chose to participate in an activity he knew was dangerous and he did it because he lacked the character to say no to peer pressure.
I said no to stupid stuff all the time as a younger girl because my dad raised me to be strong. All parents need to do that.

Sadly, it shows the immense power of peer pressure, even to the kids who have been warned, talked to, supported by parents to back out. They are right... make this BS a felony, make it not worth the risk. It needs to be too much of a risk for them to even mess around with. So sad.

@@cindylou3524 I agree, owning up to responsibility for your own actions is something our species lacks, immensely. I luckily was never one for crowds, big parties or having to be a part of what everyone else was doing... whether it’s due to being an introvert, anti-social, who knows. That said, peer pressure, wanting to be accepted, wanting to belong, liked, whatever that drive is, coupled with a young person’s brain being, well, ill-equipped (prefrontal cortex, the part of brain that helps a person plan ahead, balance risk, & control impulses, is one of the last regions to be fully developed, and doesn’t do so till 25-29 yrs old), is a dangerous combo.
Just as we can argue, “he should’ve just said no”, every single “frat bro” in that house, especially the ones who said after the fact “they knew it was too much, they didn’t WANT to do it, but it was tradition”... they ALL should’ve spoken TF up as well. People who have power over others (yes, fraternity & sorority pledge weeks are fueled by power) obviously have the advantage. The fact that this boy told his mom he didn’t want to BEFORE going, and still did it shows the mental BS involved. It had nothing to do with partying and getting drunk and everything to do with proving himself, not wanting to back down or “look weak”. It’s sad AF and even if not ending in death, toxic AF. So, no, I don’t accept the argument, “he should’ve just said no”.
When I say “make it a felony”, it’s for proactive measures, to detour hazing rituals like this. It needs to stop, from the frats and sororities to the pledges putting themselves into those stupid situations.

It just seems like a lot more "children" could be saved if all had to take accountability for their actions and choices in life...where people didn't try to take everyone to court that they could blame for whatever horrible accident happened.
Of course if a crime was deliberately committed against another they need to face justice.....but my goodness, if you or your loved one was willingly involved, and you knew about it!!! You are part of the problem in America "blame anyone else and take no accountability for what you chose to do". It takes away from so many who have the right to take to court the guilty".
People must learn to stand strong, and even avoid dangerous situations, instead of walking right in and participating.
I guess what I'm trying to say, is take accountability for your actions because there will be temptation and horrible dangerous things everywhere, our entire lives....it's our jobs as parents to teach our children to stand up and say no, and know how to walk away....

Anyone who allows their kid to join a fraternity, realize that your kid is being put in danger in the beginning… It could be something related to alcohol, whippets or other stuff. You can still be popular, or cool without being in a fraternity… This is not high school. Fraternities are the exact definition of “peer pressure“, and since everyone is different there will always be these type of cases that happen! “Steve will do it“ ears entertaining to watch, but a terrible example for kids since he will literally drink a liter of hard alcohol within seconds. Most people will have either alcohol poisoning, or potentially fatal results to this. “Don’t be a follower, BE YOU”.
