A person who is Black American, is mixed to an extent. That's why we have different looks and complexions. Some people think they can tell our percentages by skin tone, but DNA tests have shown that's not the case. We're our own ethnic group. 🖤 🇺🇸

Ms. Horne was and remains an Icon! We cannot imagine thd life of a light skinned woman in Hollyweird! Youre battling your career intentions but also your own mother? She did exactly what Sidney Poitier, James Earl Jones, Harry Belafonte, and other old Hollywood and new Hollyweird actors do. I look at her and see legacy, icon, scarred, and blessed. She definitely paved a way for style, class, elegance, and grace that we as women of color encompass and run away from.

I am now 47 and i am finally comfy in my skin. younger i used to want dark brown eyes and darker skin. black is beautiful but so is any shades of colored ladies. being older and experienced its not as serious, you realize there are more important issues besides my skin shade. even in this day and age peoples still trip. its crazy how insane society and as far as ignorant beliefs blanket our lives as if thas the only thing in life that matters! so Miss Lena Horn and i have 2 much in common. Surviving a "light skinned world". sounds bizarre but it was basic survival for me at one time! i love who i have become and what i have overcame. i love your videos and you are GOLDEN. My grandfather had a story about Lena Horne. My grandfather, BigTony (Clarence A. Perry) was a projectionist at the Howard theater in Washington DC. He was lighting up Lena Horne while she was performing on stage and I think he missed one of the cues and left her in the dark. After the show she came up to the projectionist booth and cursed him out up and down. I asked my cousin Fay what did granddady? He said “Lena Horne, cursed me out” I think he was pretty mesmerized by her. My cousin said later she was very apologetic, giving him a big tip.

Isn't it sad that so many people still can't get past skin colour. By this year in 2024 you would think that people would finally just be able to appreciate one another, whether it be a friend, or a partner, just for their authenticity & for the fact that they love themselves in a most healthy way, for being the amazing & fantastic people that they already are. People need to stop pigeonholeing others & just accept one another for all the great attributes, inside & out, which they already posess. Please stop worrying about who is lighter or darker skinned coloured. Why cant people just appreciate the beauty & the unique differences of skin colours?! Good friends who don't all match one another, are like a beautiful bunch of flowers. Every one is different yet each bring their own vibrancy, their own special & beautiful quality to the bunch, just as they are 💐

I love how open and transparent Lena was, but there were a lot of problematic circumstances that she and others had that honestly, heavily contributes to the discourse in the black community today. I'm glad that mixed and bi-racial people now have their own space to feel seen and heard in. Hopefully, we can see growth within the black community by removing the "one drop" rule and widen our own spaces as well. Lena accomplished a lot of amazing things. Thank you for covering her!

I'm very light skinned with fine hair & 'white' features. I never thought I was better than anyone. I grew up in the 70s. Never was raised to feel superior. Well maybe a bit but I never bought into that BS.

You could tell by the way she talked thet Lena Horne grew up around highly educated people. The woman oozed class and elegance. I remember her doing a commercial for The Gap where she was wearing jeans and she still looked elegant!
I never understood why Hollywood would stick folks of color into these musical numbers that usually had nothing to do with the plot of the movie and wouldn't give them credit. I'd always wonder who these artists were and want to know. Later on I learned. Nowadays, of course, folks don't give a hoot about most of those movies except for the musical numbers that were cut out in The South.

She is one of my favorite entertainers with her being so light she did what she had to do to make it and she was a civil rights activist quite honestly she didn't have to do that, but she believed in her race. I just think a lot of people were jealous of her.

From what Lena went through in hollywood, she should’ve left for another career. She didn’t grow up poor so she could’ve been anything else like a Black rights advocate. She was a child of boule’ parents who kept her isolated from struggling Black people who saw her as privileged.

Such an exotic beauty. Never knew that her voice was high pitched. I often saw her as a look alike of Audrey Hepburn,as a child... Was so sad when I learnt that Audrey passed in her 60s. Hearing that Lena Horne passed this century in her 90s is abit of a relief to me,cos I often asked myself where both of them were until this year

I love tofu but have never heard of or tried stinky tofu. “It smells like dirty socks” though. That doesn’t sound appetizing at all. 😂Lena was an amazing woman. Her mother was horrible. But she had a great dad! I love that she never played a maid as well. Thanks for this. 🖤
I have to say the clips where the photos move with the border flashing, bothers my eyes. JS
