Wow I love this so much! Girl gone bad might be the absolute peak of the classic VH music. Maybe not quite lyrically, but Ed, Al and Mike are so tight together, and loose individually!!( if that even makes sense haha) Seriously the overall groove and drive of the song is so locked in, but each player seems so free and confident in their playing, like they can do no wrong. Hearing them workshop it here is really a treat . Thanks for posting!
Amazing these rhythms and chord structures were infiltrating his brain. Who else comes up with this stuff?? Incredible. Like the video from '85, Eddie is working on the main riff that became "Amsterdam", 10 yrs later!
The genius behind many things heard by millions of ears. Asked Wolfie to come up with the setlist to work on and Girl Gone Bad was one of those gems to play live
Hopefully Wolf is able to go through all those tapes that his Dad left in 5150 that was never released. He has said in interviews he wants to go through them, But he is mourning his Dad. (Which was understandable.) Let's hope that this was just a taste of what is to come!
....only way I see that ever happening is if Wolf's career were to change direction down the road... From "Unfinished" tho, there's obviously many instrumentals/songs that are professionally produced and finished/almost finished...& probably have been for many, many years. Ed wasn't just sittin' around all those years just noodling with his Brother... they're producers as well, we have to remember that. That's why I believe Al when he says, there's dozens of records worth of material up there... some finished purely Instrumental VH albums, that'd be incredible! turdF
@@InternetSavage We wont see anything new from those 5150 tapes until Wolf has stopped doing his own thing. It might be another 4 years for all we know. It may 10 years or anything else. Its up to him when he wants to go through all of that stuff.
this is an awesome comment very much a Live at Leeds vibe and I have always pointed out the old ZZ top and live old concert Who vibes on these writing & working out this & other tracks from 1984...
Wish I actually WATCH this sausage being. Like what ARE they doing/saying in between playing? Incredible how much Edward just seems so off the cuff. Yes some of that solo work is at least as interesting as what made the record imo as well.
@@InternetSavage would you believe I WAS THERE?! It was my first concert and I was 12 and all I remember is my big sister, who also brought me to the 1984 tour, saying let’s get out of here it’s cold and will take forever to get out of here. I guess I will refer to the footage! EVH 🐐
@@InternetSavage It WAS hot. But in the desert...sun goes down...Anyway, it was 41 years ago, all I remember was the girl with keys says we're out of here. But, I do remember hearing Roth say, "IMMA F* yer girlfriend pal!" And some other shit about goin' across the freeway for a drink.

I have long thought that the instrumental part of this song is maybe not quite a tribute, but perhaps a nod to Rush. Dave could have done better with the lyrics, I think.
In my opinion the best song on that album
Also I love hearing this stuff it shows me on the right track learning to write and record.
I gotta agree with you on that. Upbeat, fast and just a great overall tune.
I second that!
Definitely the darkest sounding.
#1 I’ll Wait
#1 Girl Gone Bad
#1 Drop Dead Legs
Bad ass, being a teenager in the 1980s were the best years of my life!!!
Dude I could not agree more the 80s were my late teens and 20s and I was at all the great metal shows of the whole decade.
@@metalhead-mf2zf yeah man
, there were concerts every month , maiden Aerosmith, white snake van halen Crue ....it was incredible.
Totally!!🎉😊

One of my favorite parts of the US Festival show is when Edward and Alex jammed this.

If Van Halen was a gourmet restaurant and 1984 was the menu, this is like visiting the kitchen.
Thanks, they were indeed musical genius
Always with that classic AVH swing! 🤘🏼
this is why I saw them 5 times in concert.....1st time was 81 Fair Warning....then twice in 1984 then 2 more for 5150
5150 percent incredible
The final version of this song came out beautifully. You could easily hear which parts they removed
Solo on this song is incredible
Thank you. This is so appreciated. They were the best.
He gave all his credit to the man upstairs and now he's with him!
Man there’s soooo much stuff we fans have been missing! Wolfie, release it all!
I think this is Alex. Wolfie is trying to do his own thing

Eddie was a fan Allan holdworth. This song has parts of it that sounds like holdsworth playing.
@@sandyjensen5233Holdsworth 💯
wow, nice. thank you
One of Eds best and the best off 1984 no question about it.
This is fucking brilliant! Amazing to hear the brothers creating this amazing track. My personal favorite VH track 🥰❤🔥
Open the vault!

Genius at work.
michael anthony too! I can hear bass which was definitely not added to a rehearsal in post…
Wow, the live solo was, in my humble opinion, awesome and possibly better than the overdub!? Very cool to hear that.
these guys were and ARE ahead of their time
Absolutely! 👍 🪖🥁✌🏽
So amazing to hear them work the parts out. GGB is a Fantastic song!
This could have as an epic instrumental track…6:30 of EVH, AVH, and Mike laying down the LA vibe
Mikeys on there too! Give him some credit!
Favorite Roth era song, kept asking my guitar player in my college band to play it.
The likes of which was never heard again.
Thanks
Bizarro Van Halen pursue a Holdsworth-like direction after the success of fusion-y "Girl Gone Bad"
I thought it was cool when they teased us with this song at the US festival
I’ve got these guys same reaction… Frozen 😂
Wish they kept this drum sound
I just looked in the dictionary and under *Mad Genius* is *EVH*

Awesome! As much as I love Roth's vocal this still kicks ass as an instrumental.
Best B-track on the album.
We have 85 million you tube guitarist and music teachers that basically have NOTHING new to offer. Thats why no new Edward's.

Go watch '83 Us Festival or anything you can find from late in the Diver Down tour. A jam session with this was a regular occurrence.

One song (and these were few and far between) that Dave's lyrical melody did not serve the music as well as it should have. Bad-ass song nonetheless.
I have long thought that the instrumental part of this song is maybe not quite a tribute, but perhaps a nod to Rush. Dave could have done better with the lyrics, I think.
The lyrics are perfect as are, and it definitely wasn't a tribute to Rush. They didn't care for their music at all.
It was a nod to Alan Holdsworth actually. Eddie loved his playing
As much as Eddie smoked everything in that studio had to be covered with nicotine 🤮
Sammy Hagar said they would blow the ashes out of the studio with a leaf blower
goodness.... & they played A LOT in there too....
