Magnus and Ahriman, just the two of them, annihilating hordes after hordes of demons surrounding the astral space of Terra. They took mythical astral forms and dived into those hordes. They appeared as angels to the dreams of mortals and incarnates of death to demons. - Fury of Magnus

Demons are demons, you can't just ask them to back off especially the mad beastial ones or the insane eldritch abominations. Demons have no sides, they needed to be enslaved or offered pacts to barely keep them together. The army of Horus is but a small pack of wolves compared to the lurking unaffiliated demons lured to Terra and orbiting its astral space. Magnus is like a beacon to these creatures, and the only way to get to the breach in the barrier is to annihilate these demons. _____ General Lore: Magnus isn't on Chaos' side, he despises them. He planned to wait out for the Imperium and Chaos to exhaust themselves so that he could then annihilate both. Of all the traitor legions during this time, only Magnus' naval fleet was intact and undamaged. (From Crimson King) It is such a huge mistake for the Emperor to give up on the Thousand Sons and deem them to death because Magnus could have right then and there won the battle for the Imperium. Not only will he sit on the Throne, but have his massive fleet prevent the escape of the traitors as the direction the fleet would come from is through the Eye of Terror, which would block the escape route of the traitors and kill them in their weakened and escaping state.

Guilliman despite being one of the nerdy Primarchs, of being the accountant/logistician. To the average baseline and Aeldari they described him being a blue blur while fighting off the hordes of Chaos Space Marines, now imagine seeing Lion El Jonson or Sanguinius himself in action. They are indeed Demi Gods to your average Guardsman.
Sanguinius's superpower was basically the ability to kick some serious ass. The hawk boy killed a warlord titan and bannished both Ka'Bandha and Aagron, one right after the other.
After not sleeping and being in constant combat in the absolute worst battles on Terra for months. Every weak point about to be over run...would see Sanguinius stride upon the Battle field and turn the tide. Love that fulgrim seems to have the second best feats of both speed and durability, after jaghatai and vulkan respectively. Paired with his genuine skill, he made for one hell of a perfect package. But then again, he was all about perfection to begin with.
The funniest thing about that failed assasinatation was the guards who arrived and Guliman was: "This went from 0 to 100 very fast". Also, the most insane scene of Magnus is missing, where he became titan sized and one-punched the enemy titan.
The titan thing never actually happens in a Thousand Sons. I think it's a misreading of the scene. If you know of any other book where this is referenced, I'd happily take a look but I'm pretty sure this is just an idea the internet got wrong.
