Hey, Vaughn. I'm from Brazil. Just found your channel last month and your content has helped me a lot. Since you often ask for suggestions for future videos, here are a few ideas and some questions: - Piano study plan: What was your process, what videos and other content did you use? - Guitar study plan: What was your process, what videos and other content did you use? - Meal prep: Do you prepare your meals for the week? How do you organize that? - You work in a 9-5 job? How do you balance it with your passions and interests without going crazy?
Okay I can go over all that sometime for sure! I'll take note of this. But some quick answers to get you going, Piano From Scratch was the youtube channel I started with Jared Sound Guitar Lessons is a good guitar channel for you to start with. I don't meal prep tbh, I like very fresh food Lol. And I have my own software business however, I used to work night shift and I was a training. I actually got into software engineering so I could have more time and more money and work from home. that's made a huge impact on my life. But I'll make a video on these someday!
Love your approach to these topics bro! It's super down to earth and encouraging. I've moved away from a lot productivity/self development RUclipsrs over the years as I often find them to be abrasive, demanding, and reliant on making you feel guilty if you don't adhere to their specific standards or regimes. E.g "you need to do this" "you have to do x number of things each day" "you will fail if you don't do this one thing every day" too much engagement in this space gets super toxic over time and can actually be detrimental to progress in areas we care about imo. Your channel is a wonderful breath of fresh air in this space, so keep it up ❤️
Thank you! Means a lot. I actually dislike almost all productive content as well with an exception to maybe one person. So that’s kinda what made me start this channel.
This video found me at a perfect time! I’ve been struggling to manage all my different interests and hobbies, and I noticed a seasonal pattern in the way I pick them up and drop them. I thought I’d work with this seasonal pattern instead of forcing myself to stick with one thing even when I’ve hit a wall. I feel like dropping a hobby, picking up another, and then coming back to it again works better for me most times. Thanks so much for this video. Btw, I’m into guitar, ukulele, sketching, painting, reading, photography, journalling, and leathercrafting.
I don’t usually comment on videos, but I have to. You are doing great man! I love the whole simple productivity mindset & it’s changed my entire way of thinking. Keep doing what you’re doing & pls don’t stop‼️
I have to say you have become one of my favorite youtubers to go ahead and watch. currently i have a lot of interests like the guitar, video editing, coding for robotics, anything IT related, the gym, playing the saxophone for marching band. a LOT of things and I have my time now scheduled out and you help out a lot to make me see whats most important to me. usually i wake up at 4:40 to go to the gym around 5am before school and get an hours worth of practice on the guitar or saxophone and coding during school for free time, after that its just playing the guitar or saxophone or any school activity. i appreciate these videos so much man
These videos are awesome. I rotate between guitar, video work, and songwriting/audio production. I have always worried about being spread too thin so it’s great to hear your perspective.
As a neuroscientist who has delved quite deep into nutritional physiology I can confirm that your concept of a healthy diet is very good. Your take is much better than that of many "nutrition influencers" or what you want to call them. Your staples are quite close to mine, too, in particular eggs. Of course some people may have ethical or climate-related reasons to avoid animal foods, I am only talking about health optimization. The only thing I'd like to add to is the sea salt. It is really not much different from regular table salt, because at least 90% of it is the same sodium chloride. To really make a difference, get a mixed mineral salt with high amount of potassium and magnesium. If nothing like that is available, just get them as plain powders and mix it yourself. In Scandinavia, we get SELTIN, which is 50% sodium, 40% potassium, and 10% magnesium salts. Potassium is a big deal for overall health and learning, because it is a key player in cell hydration. Ideally, one should get more potassium than sodium in the total diet (for blood pressure and hydration). For anyone curious, here are my staples for a nutrient-optimized healthy diet: Eggs, 1 glass of orange juice per day, vegetables/salads, cheese (fully fermented, meaning no residual sugar), natural yogurt with seeds and berries (nuts are fine too), unsalted nuts and dark (70%+) chocolate as snacks, fully fermented whole grain bread (hard to get, I make it myself) with butter and cheese, some unsweetened whey protein when I train a lot. I add meat and fish depending on availability/prices. Ideally, I'd get a few servings of these per week. But I also supplement carninutrients to compensate (creatine, carnitine, taurine). For longevity optimization, people with a lot of animal protein, glycine supplementation is advisable (counteracting the mild negative health effects of methionine protein).
Thank you! admittedly I can benefit from a lot more research in this area so I really appreciate the input! It’s something can dive into in the future.
17:03 There’s a quote I heard from Alex Hormozi where he says: “People overestimate how much they can achieve in 1 year, and underestimate what they can achieve in 10.” Life gets so much easier if you simply focus on consistency and trust in the process.
Love this holistic approach. I recently started taking up more hobbies and became overwhelmed with what to prioritize. Dividing things up into lists and seasons definitely helps. I would also say it depends on your lifestyle. I started going to more raves recently, so it makes sense for me to prioritize things like shuffling over what I used to do. The beauty of learning new things is that you're never starting from 0. The wisdom you picked up in the previous activities carries over.
Well, thanks! I am a man with many interests, and I absolutely refuse to let go of even one. But putting them in some kind of order, yes, thank you! I love the clear way you present this. Ok, and I disagree with a lot of what you say about food, but that won‘t come between us. On what not to eat - yes, I‘m with you.
Great stuff and your videos about multiple interests and balancing them has been really helpful. There's a lot of stuff out there that kinda gaslights you or promises to be like a pancea for everything, but I think consistency and moderation can be a better outlook in a lot of things in life so it's refreshing to see people like yourself give what I think is actual solid advice. I'm literally working on my list during/after this video, because I've been really struggling with doing not as much as I'd like because I want to do everything. I'm not a huge scheduler and I don't think it needs to be that rigid, but I been finding a lot of value in "organizing" my thoughts and interests if that makes sense. I forget which video, but you mentioned about we only have so much focus in a day and that definitely hit different haha. thanks for the videos
Nice and thank you! Good to see I can kinda bring you some clarity! And yeah I believe I used a street fighter reference talking about the EX meter and it depleting during the day. But I forgot the video too Lol. Maybe Time Management? I can’t remember. But yeah organization helps a lot! I don’t do strict time blocks or time anything either because everyday is different, however I like to also organize my thoughts somehow. It’s given me a lot of consistent results. 👌
Hey man I took your advice for focusing on one thing at a time for guitar. I spent a little over a month, following several unique exercises from guys named Jens Larsen and Ozz Guitar, and I can say though it wasn't perfect, it was a huge step in the right direction. Learning to take time with things that are difficult, which in my case was alternate picking, helped me improve technique wise significantly. I definitely need to humble myself more and be honest with my true speed capabilities, but being able to go up to 90% speed in a song that had fast licks I thought I'd never be able to do was just awesome.
Jen’s Larsen is a gold mine 🙌. And yeah it’s good you realize that. The cool thing about instruments like guitar though is that the start is slow when you start to diversify. But the momentum REALLY picks up.
@@vaughngene I wanted your quick advice on this, since it's a problem I ran into recently with noticing fatigue. I spend about 1hr 30 mins on practicing picking with string changes and speed picking exercises, then a little over an hour praciticing building speed on a solo. Would you practice multiple high effort speed tempos for exercises and solos? I'm feeling like I'm going a little too hard on ozz guitar exercises which help, but may not translate to the solo
Personally I’m a big fan of sticking with one thing, so no, however other people do that and get great results. I love Legato for example, but I don’t think I could go from practicing fast legato into speed picking for example. I’d maybe alternate them by weeks at a time. Or stick with one until it’s extremely solid (like I do now). And keep it clean when learning new things.
Hey thank you! 🙏 I figure it's a nice way to kind of mix both in. or give a theme song for people to read to comments or get started on their routine Lol.
I like the rotation perspective, and speaking to the holistic side of things (nutrition, rest). My experience over the last 20 years mirrors that; what you put into your body and how you treat it (sleep, hygiene) are very real impacts to how effective and successful you will be in learning and executing. You also hit the nail on the head about generally only taking things out of list 1 after you've reached a stable level of competency in it. My only warning to folks rotating activities, would be: Make sure you're _intentionally_ rotating and for the "right" reasons. It's so easy to slippery-slope and make excuses or justify not sticking to something and getting over that threshold into the world of competency with a thing. And the more often you don't "finish" or achieve what you're after, the less you're going to want to even try. Great video man! Glad the algorithm brought your real-world self here so I can subscribe and see others persist and keep moving forward.
Really good point!, I have also been a victim of that. Pretending I want to rotate something but it was really an excuse to quit. I'll talk about resetting self esteem with hobbies on here someday and how I did it! And thank you!
It's really helpful to put a the digital wellbeing widget on your homescreen so you aren't blindsided by how much your phone screen time is and which apps you are spending the most time on. You can set timers for certain apps and then it'll tell you when you have 10, 5 etc minutes left so you don't get carried away. For apps you can't remove or log out of like WhatsApp you can dl any app that has a strict block. It REALLY helps. Thank you again for another beneficial video. Yours is pretty much the only productivity channel I need and the one which doesn't overwhelm me or focuses on being a specialist or makes me feel like I'm doing everything wrong. I think this is the first time I've heard someone talk about diet when it comes to productivity, thank you.
Nice I never heard of that before but that could be useful for people! And thank you! I believe so many aspects are overlooked in this space so I want to bring those to light. And the “I have to make people feel insecure for clicks” approach is why I never actually liked this space overall. But I figure I can help whoever stumbles upon my channel.
@@vaughngene Do you have an iPhone? I think apple's version is called 'screen time'. I think many creators of productivity channels are really business minded. It's OK to have a channel as a side hustle but I get turned off when it seems like money is the main motivation over a true desire to help others. I also got turned off by them selling courses, regurgitating the same info as everyone else, competition e.g. get ahead of 99% of people (which initially doesn't sound bad but ended up sounding like others need to fail for you to succeed) and identical personalities. It's a real breath of fresh air to find someone who talks about productivity when it's comes to creativity and hobbies and doesn't tell you to quit entertainment. I'm sure you will hit a million subs soon enough.
When I made my priority list for hobbies I gave myself a fourth category, which are hobbies I have an interest in that I'm making a conscious effort not to do. Maybe they're shelved for now, or maybe they're things I'll pick back up later, but the key thing is I've decided to shelve them. The other major change I made is that most of the hobbies in the third category have a little restriction placed on them, so that when I do have time for them that time is going to a specific place. For example, with gaming I said I only get to play one game at a time; if I play something else or if I go more than two weeks without playing something, that game is shelved and I have to tell myself I'm done with it for now. I think when trying to organize your hobbies like this it's important to specify the things you aren't doing as much as it is to specify what you are doing.
That’s actually a pretty cool idea! Helps to keep the focus on the things we actually want results in, rather things that give short term gratification but we don’t actually want that much.
Good stuff in this one Vaughn. I'll be looking deeper into the seasonality approach. My current schedule has me doing all of my interests each week, but tbh, its not working that well for me. I'm moving my exercise and language interests up in priority now, and I'm trying to figure out how to fit everything in to one week. I'll sketch out a seasonality schedule and see how it pencils out. Cheers
Man I love your videos, It really helps me to be better, I already started to fix my schedule and move things away, as soon I realize how farth I can go I made better decisions about my interest. I'm guitar player and vocalist but I have some interests besides music like became professional and save money, whatever I kept struggling with my routine maily because bad habits come into play every day, so I've been removing them and creating new ones that change my perspective. I need inspiration to not quit, thanks so much for you content. I'm sure it will helps a lot of people out there. Please share your Notion template or make a guide soon :D
This is something I'm experiencing at the moment. Overwhelming at times seeing all the 'things' on my list, despite my choice to take them on. I like your structure. Going to give it a go.
You're someone I've been watching a lot recently!! I don't comment a lot but Thanks for making really good content tho, everythings down to earth and easy to understand. It lets me stress less about perfectionism. I really like how your interests are really similar to mine; except I'm just starting lol. I'm really trying to get things done consistently but being 15 is really chaotic sometimes;; Thanks again!!!
Thank you! 🙏 and yea that’s a tough one to overcome but you’ll be fine. Especially as you exit school and find your own path. You’ll have more time to think on your own just fine and 👌
I've watched your videos, and they are really helpful. Also, I always see that you involuntarily collect people who have also lots of interest. I suggest you to consider making a discord community or other community, it seems to be able strengthening us. Anyway thanks Vaugh Gene
Thanks for sharing this Vaughn. I've always struggled trying to get past the "intermediate" level with my hobbies, and feeling guilty when I don't progress as much as I should. Your perspective on this definitely helped me figure out what I should truly prioritize, since I never really thought about my own strengths and what I can get away with in terms of time management. Also great job on your improvs at the end of your videos. I'm interested to hear about your musical journey and what it took to get to a comfortable level to improvise on piano/guitar.
Yeah definitely try things out and see what works for you! And thank you. yeah I can talk about that sometime! In a nutshell is mastering the scales, intervals, triads, triad extensions, and note names. After that you can really unlock the keys/fretboard.
Animal fats do a LOT of good for our health so maybe look into it sometime. Especially butter and tallow. But olive oil is good too. Actually it’s what I use on my skin also Lol.
This is so on point. eep going with the series if theres more points to make. Very useful for people tomaybe even combat the shiny object syndrome with lots of options these days.
@@vaughngene brilliant! Love the approach you take with your content. Educational but in an informal way. I’m kind of done with big neon coloured text appearing on screen saying which overshadows the learning
I don't think it's about balance or imbalance or interests or disinterests, I think it's more a matter of assessing the feasibility of achieving the big goals in each interest, the ones that have the highest degree of feasibility are to be prioritized and pursued and once achieved a person is to move down the list to achieve the rest. Good luck. One life to live, I'mma live it well.
Hey! I just wanted to share here how your channel is helping me at my current situation. Up to a month ago I had been stuck for a long time: trying to start new hobbies and getting tired of them after a short time, being unorganised with my learning, and stressing too much about short-term results in every field. I was exhausted by the lack of results, and I was stuck at this point for about.. two years? A month ago I had a change in my way of thinking, shortly before I came across your videos. And now, even as I write this, I'm surprised I didn't realise my problem earlier (lol). I decided to focus on three things that I really like and want to be defined by, and stick to them. And since then, I have better results in all of them because now it's not so much about my development from one day to the next but about my long term development. I now stick to plans, and FOMO no longer affects me the way it did back then. I'm glad to see that some of the things you say in this video I've also thought about in the last few days (nutrition, lists and taking time to rest). Anyway, for the first time in a long time I am proud of myself again, and I love watching your videos and extracting what I can learn from them!
🙌 That’s awesome to see! Glad these videos can help you along the way so far. I think it’s always refreshing when you come across something that aligns with what you feel. I always wondered why I seemed to get results while others struggled so much, so in a non-ego way I kinda just want to get some useful info out here on the net so everyone else gets the same or better. Keep it up though!
I literally wrote an app for that 😅 works for me, but it's a pretty similar idea. But oddly, I've been using it for years, and only watching this video I realized this is what the app is actually for. I always thought of it as a gamification/reminder thing.
I just found myself doing this naturally over the years but I always feel bad about switching from one thing to another after 2 weeks like I'm "abandonning" it. For instance, I obsessed over bushcraft, then mahjong, then drawing, each time for about 2 weeks 10 hours per day, and I don't know when I'll be getting back to it. Also some stuff like language learning you clearly need to keep at it everyday to progress, it's not like guitar where you could make some big progress, putting it in standby, and when you come back at it you still have those skills ingrained in yourself (from my experience). The key point to take from that is I think, it depends what your main goals are, and to have a clear way of rotate your hobbies like you shown us. Thanks for this video.
I'm straight, but your energy makes me think of my sexuality Jokes aside, really glad YT showed me your channel, this is what I want to do as well in my language and I resonate with your lifestyle a lot. Thanks for sharing
Maybe another topic. Complex habits/skills. I learned how to rap but it was a confusing process, I started with freestyling and reciting my favorite songs, then I graduated to writing and reciting my own lyrics. Now I am trying to learn to do melodic trap freestyles and recite good songs. All of these habits fall under "Rap" but they are all complex and bring their own set of challenges. They are like sub skills under the main thing you are working towards. For example, I got freestyling and reciting my favorite songs as an automatic habit before moving to writing and reciting my own lyrics.
Daaamn my interests naturally moved around in seasons somehow and I started to notice. E.g., I often start wriring music in winter/beginninf of a year, get more into sports in summer (even indoors one, and I hate sun), etc.
We eat very similarly. Eggs, citrus, blueberries, green tea… I don’t always do it consciously but gravitate towards these foods while I am doing high cognitive load tasks. Also edamame w/ salt, peanut butter, sunflower seeds, leafy greens, aged cheeses, and kimchi are good for protein, micronutrients and probiotics. Simple, whole foods with either nutrient or caloric density (so I don’t have to eat a large volume), works really well for focus and energy. I guess I’m looking forward to your video on nutrition, lol.
Exactly, I’ll get into the foods good for the gut eventually too! I think nutrition is so underrated in getting results. But arguably more important than anything else.
- Okay, I wanted to write this on the last vid but didn’t have the time. I also hate that I have so much to say but I've collected many, and even discarded some interests and there’s so much that I’ve learned and want to share. I’m mainly talking to the other commenters/viewers because I know V already knows most of this already, I’m only commenting so someone can benefit from it. - I do weight training, spiritual studies, Arabic language learning, and story franchise building (writing, drawing, soundtrack music-making). All of my interests affect each other and build off one another. Other people’s music gives me story-related scenarios/situation ideas in my head, visual inspiration inspires characters/storylines in me, spiritual learning and weight training give me drive to do more creative work and development, and thinking of what I want to achieve while I workout pushes me to do a few more reps. - I’ve been playing bass and guitar since 2002 and 2004 respectively. I have lots of skill and talent in making music, so I don’t need to play everyday to learn the instrument because I’ve already learned it enough to do what I need to do, however languages and new skills HAVE to be done everyday because the mind needs consistency and repetition while it learns that skill. Someone once told me in high school when I first started learning bass that ten minutes everyday is better than 90 at the end of the week, and after 22 years, he was right. - My 4 main interests (I call them my “Pillars”), don’t change however, what is done in each of them does, (worldbuilding will change to character building; Arabic alphabet-learning one week, numbers the next). What also changes is the amount of time I have to spend on these interests: 5/6 hours of free time while I was at one job, then only two hours at the next job, and now I have 8+ hours. - I will only add interests if they reinforce what I’m working towards like, for example, learning to cook so I can meal prep and have proper nutrition for weight training. Because I want to be good at what I do, I don’t add interests because that will take time away from my other important interests. - Skills do get lost a bit from non-use however it really depends on the amount of time that has been put into that particular skill already. I've put the guitar down for six months before and when I picked it back up, I was still be able to PLAY it because I've put decades into learning it however, my playing chops (my playing endurance and hand strength), took a hit, (I used to be able to play guitar/bass for hours). Also, I’ve forgotten how to play many songs I used to play often and would have to re-learn whole or just sections of songs again. - I’ve learned that it’s important that your interests are practical and useful in the grand scheme of your life. I dare say, it’s even more important that you find your purpose in life and shape your life and interests around that purpose, like I have; every interests serves the other interests. (Weight training keeps me in shape, eliminates stress, I get good ideas when I work out, it gives me added endurance to do all that I need to do in a day, etc.) - It’s best to develop one interests at a time. The more focus you can put on that one interest, the better you’ll get and the faster you’ll get there. I put a lot of time in playing bass, then, six years later, put much more focus into playing guitar. Thirteen years later I put guitar playing on the backburner and focused more on building up my writing skill. - Time management: If a video doesn’t add to my ability to do my interests better, I usually don’t watch it, or, if it’s something interesting, I may save it to view on an off-day later. I put a 30-minute limit on TikTok so I don’t waste time doom-scrolling and I cut out all other social medias to save time. I don’t regret any of it. - You and another commenter stated having ADHD. I think my own ADHD-tendencies allows me to bounce from interests to interests very comfortably and naturally. An hour or more here, an hour or so there, and like I said, each one builds the other’s up. That's all I got. I’m open for questions. Great bluesy solo V, very tasteful. Thanks for reading. -D
I'm finally slowing down on playing video games after like 9 years! in the next few days I'm gonna take a few months of break time on them except maybe on an occasional Saturday or Sunday. The things I want to learn are: Dutch. Korean, Guitar, and Accordion, (Might be a while before I can get those instruments) I also have to get a bit into math :p I've never been taught past addition for the most part and I'm 16😅 I have lots of motivation now too! the only things holding back my time are My dad's 7 dogs, unfortunately disgust OCD, and a very bad nasal voice. The nasal voice is by far my biggest Demotivator - That's probably not a word 😅 - It makes my pronunciation sound very bad and I'm not able to see a doctor for what the issue is. But, I've starting trying to do exercising for strengthening the lower body and seeing if making my breathing stronger could help. I've drove myself tired looking for solutions! Thank you for making these great videos! It's great to find someone who is very honest! 😀
I see, it's good that you are actively looking for solutions and not making excuses. That's a really strong trait actually. Especially at that age, you'll be really far by the time you are my age (double yours just about Lol). Once you are on your own more you may find it easier to find a routine and such too.
Hey for the nutrition piece, there are a lot of good daily foods to eat I learned from reading “Genius Foods” by Max L. It highlights a lot of similar things you mentioned as well. Just throwing that out there b/c it explains a lot of the “why” foods are healthy or unhealthy and the book itself is focused on cognitive health. It’s a great read. I’m working on a video/summary on it myself now.
@@vaughngene my guy I wanna say your language advice IS A GOLD Mine my Arabic cognitive function has shot up from 11 days ago, literally learning vocab and practice with native speakers and personalising what you say helped a ton now I can easily understand textbook vocab since it's a tiny fish compared to the bigger fish I've been interacting with love bro
Nice! That’s awesome to hear. Your Arabic is going to get so good that people are gonna think you are reading from a script like they tell me when I speak Japanese 😂. I can’t explain how powerful deliberate repetition is. It’s amazing.
8:13 I press the button too. And after this, I completely forget things. Its so annoying, I would unstall it all but I have to keep it (for communicating, for exemple).
I actually use premiere pro, but I wouldn’t recommend that for beginners. I believe DaVinci Resolve is better and there’s a free version. I can’t remember the others but I only use premiere pro because I learned it years ago. Otherwise I think it’s too much for beginners. Unless you have that kind of time.
What you think about scheduled vacations? Like a week travelling every 3/4 months? It's an approach I red from a book of Paul Millerd and that I'm about to experiment
I'd highly recommend it tbh, It's good to get out and see the world too. guitar and productivity and all this stuff will always be here, but traveling and making memories is more important imo. Something I regret not doing in my 20's actually.
I don't even feel confident with my list yet 💀 TIER 1 (Priority) Studying Philosophy/Spiritual stuff Graphic Design TIER 2 (Its there) Fitness Chess TIER 3 (Will always have it) Piano
Trial and error like I said, it took me a while to find a good flow Lol. That seems manageable though. Just with piano have a very clear goal as you’ll naturally have less time.
Learning Scales and the shapes, learning intervals and learning triads all over the neck really helps me unlock the fretboard. Do that in each key as the months go by and you will learn a lot. Then it's just a matter of analyzing music and learning from it. Jared Sound Guitar lessons is a really good channel to get you started! And thank you!
There's so much good stuff out there. Learning bar chords is really useful and can also lead you to the CAGED system, but even better is knowing triads. I think blues music is a good place to break out. Having a capo is also a solution for moving up the neck into other keys. Who are some of your favorite players?
On the learning one skill at a time: I imagine you mean learning something new and not practice right? Like if I wanted to learn a new song on drums I’d stick to practice stuff I know on guitar while I learn the new thing on drums and vice verca? That’s how I interpreted it anyway
As long as you can do both then yeah that’s fine. in general this also applies on a micro level too. If you are learning both,m instruments, just learn one thing on both. And maybe at the end of the session to a refresher of what you already know really quick. Part 1 of this video is what I was referencing as far as one overall hobby at a time. I’ll link it. ruclips.net/video/wTnsjmsgJS8/видео.htmlsi=LUSbNvAfzZ-eTRke
@@vaughngene thank you for the reply. I’ve already been playing drums for 2 and a half years so it’ll be easier for me to learn things on that thankfully. I’ll check that video out soon
Some Channel's I'd recommend are Jared Sound Guitar Lessons, Giuseppe Gillardi As long as you just pick a topic and practice you'll be fine. apart from that music theory is just diving into different topics one by one and practicing with intention.
You might enjoy Antoine Michaud if you're into ambient noodling. Get some kind of looper to really boost learning, as you can quickly design your own chord progression and playing around with sounds. What guitar players do you look up to most?
It could but some of those are mandatory so they would never leave list 1, But yeah technically yeah, it can work the exact same! Even if you have like a weekend version, and a weekday version.
Hey man, i’ve been watching your videos for a while and have been really tryna input it into my life, one thing i have noticed though is now when I am relaxing or doing nothing i feel very off/awkward like i should be doing something at the moment. Does that ever happen with you?
It used to until I built a better relationship with rest, That’s all you have to work on. Learning how important rest is towards your hard work. I had that issue for a long time though yes, but not much these days.
Depends on the day, I usually eat mid day and evening, but some mornings I’ll eat. If I do, it’s just a lot of eggs though and maybe ground beef with it.
I put the wrong info for coffee btw Lol
Here’s the correct stuff,
- **Caffeine boost**: Increases alertness and concentration.
- **Rich in antioxidants**: Protects brain cells from oxidative stress.
- **Improves mood**: Stimulates dopamine production.
- **May reduce risk of neurodegenerative diseases**: Supports long-term brain function.
-
Also I eat a lot of fruit for the fiber and the fact that it just keeps your digestion super healthy.
Will talk more about that soon.
-
Anyhow, hope you enjoyed 💪
You’re my new favourite RUclipsr. Your messages really resonate with me!
Thank you 🙏, means a lot.
Glad this is resonating with you.

Hey, Vaughn. I'm from Brazil. Just found your channel last month and your content has helped me a lot. Since you often ask for suggestions for future videos, here are a few ideas and some questions:
- Piano study plan: What was your process, what videos and other content did you use?
- Guitar study plan: What was your process, what videos and other content did you use?
- Meal prep: Do you prepare your meals for the week? How do you organize that?
- You work in a 9-5 job? How do you balance it with your passions and interests without going crazy?
Okay I can go over all that sometime for sure! I'll take note of this.
But some quick answers to get you going,
Piano From Scratch was the youtube channel I started with
Jared Sound Guitar Lessons is a good guitar channel for you to start with.
I don't meal prep tbh, I like very fresh food Lol.
And I have my own software business however, I used to work night shift and I was a training.
I actually got into software engineering so I could have more time and more money and work from home. that's made a huge impact on my life.
But I'll make a video on these someday!
Waking up early is a good habit. I wake up really really early, do my physical exercises first, and after that, I go wake up Batman.
Waking up before Batman is wild work
Love your approach to these topics bro!
A notion tutorial is most def a good idea!
I took immediate action: bought some eggs, beef and oranges. I say no to brain fog.
🙌, nice.
I think diet is the one of the most important factors in getting results.
yes please to comprehensive eating guide. i can do quic fixes if i get too thick in the trunk but I'm looking for something long term.
I don’t usually comment on videos, but I have to. You are doing great man! I love the whole simple productivity mindset & it’s changed my entire way of thinking. Keep doing what you’re doing & pls don’t stop‼️
That's awesome to hear! And thank you, I definitely feel like the space is ruined so I'm trying to clean it up.
This is probably the modr useful, simple, straight to the point, chill, balanced video ive seem in weeks. Great advice.
Thanks so much 🙏, means a lot.
And glad it helps. I try not to sound too over the top, especially considering the state of RUclips these days.
I have to say you have become one of my favorite youtubers to go ahead and watch. currently i have a lot of interests like the guitar, video editing, coding for robotics, anything IT related, the gym, playing the saxophone for marching band. a LOT of things and I have my time now scheduled out and you help out a lot to make me see whats most important to me. usually i wake up at 4:40 to go to the gym around 5am before school and get an hours worth of practice on the guitar or saxophone and coding during school for free time, after that its just playing the guitar or saxophone or any school activity. i appreciate these videos so much man
Thank you! 🙏,
And that’s awesome to hear. Really glad these videos can help you out.
These videos are awesome. I rotate between guitar, video work, and songwriting/audio production. I have always worried about being spread too thin so it’s great to hear your perspective.
thank you! everyone has their own approach, but I find this works very well for me.
A notion walkthrough would be very interesting!
Gotcha
You are so gonna blow up on YT! Great knowledge and perspective! ✨
Thank you! I’ll believe it since you said it 🌞
17:03 There’s a quote I heard from Alex Hormozi where he says: “People overestimate how much they can achieve in 1 year, and underestimate what they can achieve in 10.”
Life gets so much easier if you simply focus on consistency and trust in the process.
Yeah I would agree with that from personal experience actually.
5-10 years you can really do a LOT.
Just hard to think long term naturally.
Nice, and Exactly! Just change them whenever you see fit and it all kinda fixes itself I find. 👌
Just watched part 1 and 2 back to back and took notes. Great, basic info, thank you
Nice! Just revisit when you need to! And thanks!
Yo, just found your channel and think its cool as. You feel like an older version of me. Bro keep up the hustle, 100k coming in no time 💯
U got me in the Turkish part 🤓 love your content ✨
🇹🇷 I actually may learn it someday!
I’ll document the process if I do.
And thank you.
🤝 fair enough Lol, as long as you feel sharp throughout the day that’s all that counts.
I don’t do strict time blocks or time anything either because everyday is different,
however I like to also organize my thoughts somehow.
I love your videos!! And you playing guitar or piano, at the end of these videos are simply the cherry on top of the cake!!
Hey thank you! 🙏 I figure it's a nice way to kind of mix both in. or give a theme song for people to read to comments or get started on their routine Lol.
Thanks for part 1 and 2, I think these videos will help me allot
Anytime, just revisit them whenever and take what you need.
Happy I found your channel, great relatable content
Welcome, and thank you!
Good content, my friend. I would like to see how you organize things in notion
You’re great at being just a normal guy who is into self improvement. I am glad I discovered your channel!
Thank you! That's the vibe I go for so thanks!
Would definitely like to see your notion walkthrough
Love your channel! Yes please to the Notion video
Thank you! And in due time I will 👌
The nutrition part for me was gold, thanks. Amazing video man love your videos. Keep being great.
Glad it helps! I have a lot more on the topic in the future, I just wanted to get something out there to take action on. And thank you! 🙌
Cheers
Yep trial and error 👌. Just be patient with it.
Nice, really glad it's helping. And yeah I can do a notion walkthrough sometime of the basics for sure!
There's some kind of a peaceful and calming aura about him right??
Dude is one of the chillest guys ever
Also I'd love a part 3,i found these both of these really helpful
Lol thank you! I’m quite relaxed overall unless I’m doing sports.
And for sure! I have a bit more to share on this topic. 🙌
Am always a return viewer. Yout vids are helpful. Am practicing my guitar while watching your vid😊😊
🙌 Thank you! And glad the content is helping.
This is something I'm experiencing at the moment. Overwhelming at times seeing all the 'things' on my list, despite my choice to take them on. I like your structure. Going to give it a go.
For sure, just trial and error like I said. It took me a while to find my limits.
It’s in process 👌
Love your content! ❤
Thank you! Glad it helps!
Really good information! Thank you very much. This really helps! ❤
Glad it helps 🌞
I would like a notion tutorial/walkthrough plz. thank you for these videos.
:) looks similar like my routine great vid
Thank you for the Concepts. I have been noticing improvement since following your videos ✅😁
Glad they help Mom ❤
Great advice on how to prioritize interests. I will try it. I'd recommend trying olive oil instead of other types of oils or butter.
Animal fats do a LOT of good for our health so maybe look into it sometime. Especially butter and tallow.
But olive oil is good too. Actually it’s what I use on my skin also Lol.
Hey Vaughn Gene. You give me a lot of inspiration and your videos have been helpful. Thank you and God bless.
Glad they help, and God bless you too!
Great perspective
🙌
The guitar went crazy at the end bro
Thank you! 🙌
This is so on point. eep going with the series if theres more points to make. Very useful for people tomaybe even combat the shiny object syndrome with lots of options these days.
I have a video on Shiny Object Syndrome actually, right before this one.
But yeah I have more to share on this for sure!
@@vaughngene brilliant! Love the approach you take with your content. Educational but in an informal way. I’m kind of done with big neon coloured text appearing on screen saying which overshadows the learning
really glad i found ur channel awhile ago ive watched all ur videos by now and still go back to a few greatful for your content man❤
Glad it’s helping 🙌 and thanks for sticking along!
Appreciate these videos ty love how you incorporate your music.
thank you!
Love your vids man, it's so aesthetic❤
Thank you 🙌
Happy for you having the Mario star)
Great to see someone so wholesome on the internet🔥
Thanks Lol, video games were a big part of my life growing up so there will always be references,
I don't think it's about balance or imbalance or interests or disinterests, I think it's more a matter of assessing the feasibility of achieving the big goals in each interest, the ones that have the highest degree of feasibility are to be prioritized and pursued and once achieved a person is to move down the list to achieve the rest. Good luck. One life to live, I'mma live it well.
I like that approach because it makes the more meaningful things a priority. I talk about that In part 1 of these videos.
This is the kind of people I want to be around... Great content.
Thank you and welcome 🤝
I always wondered why I seemed to get results while others struggled so much,
so in a non-ego way I kinda just want to get some useful info out here on the net so everyone else gets the same or better.
Keep it up though!
I literally wrote an app for that 😅 works for me, but it's a pretty similar idea. But oddly, I've been using it for years, and only watching this video I realized this is what the app is actually for. I always thought of it as a gamification/reminder thing.
Nice, seems you had an intuitive approach also.
Im down fir a notion tut ngl
please make a video on your notion workflow!!! I'm really curious
I can sometime yeah 👌
very good information, thank you for posting.
Anytime, glad it’s helpful 🙌
Very good video, much appreciated your time and effort
Wish everyone stay healthy and mentally strong ❤
🙌 thank you
Everything it’s possible you just need structured learning. These words always drive me
Indeed 🙌
Love the nutrition share on pro-metabolic bioenergetic peaty style, I see you 👀
It’s SUPER important imo 👌
Yep I think with the right approach we can all build our own custom routine that’s perfect for us and our goals.
And no problem!
I appreciate you so much! You are my Yoda 😋
“Optimize, you must.. mm”
i'd like to see a video about your notion template
I'm straight, but your energy makes me think of my sexuality
Jokes aside, really glad YT showed me your channel, this is what I want to do as well in my language and I resonate with your lifestyle a lot. Thanks for sharing
Lol Glad you made it here then. Yeah I really like the practical approach on things, because I find that it brings the most fulfillment overall.
Yeah there are different avenues for things indeed. Just dive into them as you see fit really.
Like you seem to be doing already👌
Daaamn my interests naturally moved around in seasons somehow and I started to notice. E.g., I often start wriring music in winter/beginninf of a year, get more into sports in summer (even indoors one, and I hate sun), etc.
Nice, yeah as long as you find your balance that's what counts. For some it's intuitive.
💪Thanks!
Thank you 🙏
¡Gracias!
Thank you! 🙏
Your List looks exactly as mine, currently im focusing on eating better and trying to regain my motivation
Nice, and yeah it’s a big game changer 👌. Just take it day by day.
(Weight training keeps me in shape, eliminates stress, I get good ideas when I work out, it gives me added endurance to do all that I need to do in a day, etc.)
- It’s best to develop one interests at a time.
-D
🙌
And thank you! my goal is improvisation these days so that's all I practice. Hoping to have my ideal sound in 2 years or so.
WE NEED A NOTION TUTORIAL PLEASE

@@vaughngene 😏my man
I'm finally slowing down on playing video games after like 9 years! in the next few days I'm gonna take a few months of break time on them except maybe on an occasional Saturday or Sunday.
The things I want to learn are: Dutch. Korean, Guitar, and Accordion, (Might be a while before I can get those instruments) I also have to get a bit into math :p I've never been taught past addition for the most part and I'm 16😅
I have lots of motivation now too! the only things holding back my time are My dad's 7 dogs, unfortunately disgust OCD, and a very bad nasal voice.
And the nasally thing yeah, it could be something going on but they can check that for sure.
Nice I’ll check that out sometime! Thanks.
Nice one Brother, add this to your category 1: The Music Lesson by Victor Wooten 👍
I’ll look into it, thanks!
I would love a tutorial on how you use notation!
👌
I left a comment on your shiny object video and this video answers the question 😭
Lol aye
@@vaughngene broooo you're the man 💛💛💛
8:13 I press the button too. And after this, I completely forget things. Its so annoying, I would unstall it all but I have to keep it (for communicating, for exemple).
Having adhd i wish that maybe will be ok for me
It should 👌, just cater it to your custom style.
Do you really have Adhd? Or you just self diagnose that you have Adhd? A lot of people these days self diagnose
@@sakamotokun9057 i have the diagnose.
@@sakamotokun9057 i have the diagnose unfortunetly.
Love your videos! Could i ask what video editor you use and whether you know any free resources?
I actually use premiere pro, but I wouldn’t recommend that for beginners.
I believe DaVinci Resolve is better and there’s a free version.
I can’t remember the others but I only use premiere pro because I learned it years ago.
Otherwise I think it’s too much for beginners. Unless you have that kind of time.
❤
❤️
What you think about scheduled vacations? Like a week travelling every 3/4 months? It's an approach I red from a book of Paul Millerd and that I'm about to experiment
I'd highly recommend it tbh, It's good to get out and see the world too. guitar and productivity and all this stuff will always be here, but traveling and making memories is more important imo.
Something I regret not doing in my 20's actually.
👍🏾
I don't even feel confident with my list yet 💀
TIER 1 (Priority)
Studying Philosophy/Spiritual stuff
Graphic Design
TIER 2 (Its there)
Fitness
Chess
TIER 3 (Will always have it)
Piano
Trial and error like I said, it took me a while to find a good flow Lol.
That seems manageable though.
Just with piano have a very clear goal as you’ll naturally have less time.
could you do a video about YOU and yours life.
I can if people want that yeah, as far as my routine.
It’s quite extreme though Lol.
Oooh, a beautiful guitar solo! How did you learn that? I have been playing the same open chords for 20 years 😂 The video quite interesting, as always.
Learning Scales and the shapes,
learning intervals
and learning triads all over the neck really helps me unlock the fretboard.
Nice vid
🙏

@@vaughngene thank you for the reply. I’ve already been playing drums for 2 and a half years so it’ll be easier for me to learn things on that thankfully. I’ll check that video out soon
Your guitar solo sounded great, what resources have been most helpful to you?
Some Channel's I'd recommend are Jared Sound Guitar Lessons, Giuseppe Gillardi
As long as you just pick a topic and practice you'll be fine.
apart from that music theory is just diving into different topics one by one and practicing with intention.
You might enjoy Antoine Michaud if you're into ambient noodling.
Get some kind of looper to really boost learning, as you can quickly design your own chord progression and playing around with sounds.
What guitar players do you look up to most?
How do you do your interests + "obligations"?
I just keep that on a separate page tbh.
But you can combine them if you want.
I just don’t because I don’t like seeing it together Lol
As far as my day though, I just manage my time well.
do you think these lessons still apply when accounting for non interest based tasks, like a freelance job/9-5 job/making food/cleaning the house/etc
It could but some of those are mandatory so they would never leave list 1,
But yeah technically yeah, it can work the exact same!
Even if you have like a weekend version, and a weekday version.
Wow let’s go
💪
Hey man, i’ve been watching your videos for a while and have been really tryna input it into my life, one thing i have noticed though is now when I am relaxing or doing nothing i feel very off/awkward like i should be doing something at the moment. Does that ever happen with you?
It used to until I built a better relationship with rest,
That’s all you have to work on.
Learning how important rest is towards your hard work.
I had that issue for a long time though yes,
but not much these days.
This might be random but do you skip breakfast or eat it late? I’ve seen many productive people suggest this tip
Depends on the day, I usually eat mid day and evening, but some mornings I’ll eat.
If I do, it’s just a lot of eggs though and maybe ground beef with it.
