Part 2 of this video is here, ruclips.net/video/GYRHJwNY6jw/видео.htmlsi=MZqduOG0_Y0SiBwp Also Immersion is a term that most people use PASSIVELY as in (just listen to audio and be around the language and magically become fluent), That doesn't work. If YOUR version of Immersion requires a lot of deliberate practice, then yes, 'Immersion' does work. In my experience, 99% of people who use that word around me think it's a passive effort. That's why I say that. Anyhow go watch part 2! Love yall.
Here my unpopular opinion: it's okay to be mediocre at many things and just enjoy being in the moment every time you're doing one of your hobbies. It saves a lot of inner conflict and cultivates your mental health 👍
I think that’s fine actually, if that what ‘Results’ or even ‘good’ is to you. That’s totally okay imo. I think most people’s issue is knowing a lot but not doing much of anything due to lack of structure.
Definitely! It doesn't matter if you're great at something or awful at it (as long as no one is expecting you to be amazing, like if it was a paid job). At the end of the day, if you're doing something because you're interested in it and having a great time doing so as well, that's all that matters. Life is a journey... you find new things you enjoy here and there... lose interest in others... and the cycle continues. If you want to develop more skill in something, you just need to focus more of your time into that activity than others, but if you're just doing something to chill and enjoy it for what it is at your current skill level, then that's perfectly fine as well :)
fr man all my friends around me seems to be a master to one or some skills and they know what they good at while i enjoy TONS of stuffs and interested in everything to the point idk which one to focus on T__T i dont want to abandon the other interest when i focus on one....
Holy crap, I think I found my people. It’s so uncanny seeing so many people with similar interests. I’m working on calisthenics, parkour, piano, music, and coding as current hobbies. I used to write novels, do art, tennis, swim, cross country. I’m so glad I found this place, hope I can contribute to the community!
@@SuperEDU-h9z That's why it should be natural. You're just following where your interests take you. Don't be pressured by time and that you need to be a renaissance man quick.
Damn, the algorithm knows me better than I thought. Happy to found my people. Currently I learn how to draw, make beats, photography, art fundamentals, animation, CGI (I work as a freelance motion designer). One day I want to be able to combine all of those interests and make my own art with it.
@@eddy4719 bro, I've beeeeen wanting to learn motion graphics/animation. I'm currently a graphic designer but I wanna make the switch. Any ideas on where I can start with the self learning? I see a lot of videos and tutorials but I get overwhelmed 😭😭
i'm lucky enough to have had a childhood before social media took off. and so the way i entertained myself as a child was by doing hobbies(drawing). a part of me feel like hobbies and learning a knew skill these days is rare on mass so i'm happy to watch people like you promote this stuff. creating more than consuming should be the standard.
Hey that’s actually kind of the reason I started this channel, to help people get off the computer and phone as much. I also grew up before social media and it was so nice. It’s a feeling everyone can get to though with effort I believe
@@Vihaan-yv9eh I have a video titled “don’t delete social media do this instead”, But if you don’t wanna watch that, I’d recommend maybe remove it for now, but then lock its use behind all your activities for the day once you are back on social media. “No social media until I study, practice and etc”. Then you’ll actually be able to use it guilt free. Or you will realize that you don’t even want to use social media Lol (this is where I am mostly). Hope that Idea helps.
En Masse** and I agree, "smartphones" generally dumbed people down. People don't have hobbies/skills anymore. The natural boredom that would lead to curiosity, learning, and entertaining oneself with a hobby is now interrupted by social media addiction.
It's so relieving there are people who actually pursue multiple interests without saying that it's impossible and we better stick to one thing for our lifetime. Thanks for the video!
For sure! Yeah others limiting beliefs often stem from them not being able get their own act together. Better to try on your own and figure things out! 👌
@@vaughngeneIt is also because some people want to do incredibly deep learning in one subject, so they choose to specialize. This can prove to be a very wise decision, depending on what you plan on doing with the information.
@@crazyfactsandcoolvids back in the day, people like our founding fathers, philosophers and the like never really specialized in one thing, most of them were actually other things like authors, artists, scientists, etc. Honing in on one thing is a relatively new trend in the human experience.
"Your training is nothing, your will to act is everything" - Ra's al Ghul. Don't question your capabilities, just do. Your level of mastery will take care of itself.
I never heard that until I googled it but Batman, makes sense. And I agree. I think we often think way too far ahead and just give up before we even start.
@vaughngene I feel I'm quite blessed and been gifted with natural skills and talents, to be self taught is one thing but to actually be praised for is another. I'm still learning. I would say I'm quite skilled even some could say I'm one of the only, I love what I do and what I'm going to do. I just don't understand. Why be good at everything? When you can be the best and only at another? If I'm the most professional and the " to go guy" for this thing why can't I apply that to my everyday life? I can and should then I should also work on what I lack. When it becomes a norm WHAT DO I DO
I've been so overwhelmed with people telling me that if I don't pick one thing then I'll never be great at anything. I'm so incredibly glad there are other people successfully doing lots of passionate things.
Yeah limiting beliefs from others are dangerous, I have a video about this actually, part 2 of managing multiple interests. I think it’s very overlooked but important!
Yes and no. Specialise in one, but continue interest in others. Those interests will aid the one u specialise in. U can eventually move speciality, but if u dont focus ur initial skills into one, u are just going to be like everyone else.
I've found my true homies here🙂 Graphic designer, forex trader, guitar player, boxing, video editor, Spanish learner, upcoming international chef.... should I go on bros? 😂
Being a generalist is SO underrated. Marketing consultant, and it's frustrating how many small businesses get scammed bc they meet a specialist in ONE (of about a dozen) discipline who talks the client into spending 100% of their budget on the one speciality/discipline they happen to know and sell...whereas I'm capable of 100% customizing strategies and tactics to the CLIENT'S situation.
Tbf, it's hard to capitalize generalist skill, unless you're a T person who has one specific skill and know a lot of other stuffs. It's easier to contribute to society as a person who is good in python programming but sucks in sports and music than a person who can do anything from python programming to playing musical instruments, but at the basic level. Don't get me wrong, im a generalist myself. I can do a lot of things, ranging from swimming (all strokes from freestyle to butterfly), badminton, basketball, soccer, playing guitar, bass, harmonica, drum, above average rank in competitive gaming, basic linux scripting, etc. and i'm a mechanical engineer. But, i don't think im so good at a specific thing (beside engineering, which i don't really like, tbh) to the point that my skill is marketable. That's the main problem as a generalist, imo. We're lacking mastery in skills hence we can't contribute a lot to society as quick as specialist, unless we take entrepreneurship path which is much harder than traditional professional way.
It depends on the discipline, a good scientist for example should be pretty good in one discipline, working in manufacturing or marketing more generalised knowledge is better, but I think you’re right generalists are underrated.
There are general doctors, and specialist doctors. Neither one are a scam, they each fulfill a different purpose. Same with marketing. Your clients are not being scammed, it could just be they need the right approach. There are situations where specializing is better, and others where having a general knowledge is better. They are complimentary traits, hence why we live in a society where our complimentary skills and traits are set up to help one another.
My problem is I wasted 20 years due to bad mental health and spending all my time on the computer so I have a lot of wasted time to make up for. I also feel like time goes so fast and that I won't have enough to learn and enjoy them all. I think yours is the realist productivity channel out here, thank you.
I'm 35 and none taken no worries. It's just that I have a ton of things I'm interested in and though I've dropped a bunch I'm still left with an embarrassing amount. I'm currently a homemaker and may still work part time in future, I'm married and may still have kids someday. I'm very stressed as I'm already struggling to manage my hobbies with only housework. I guess I feel like I don't want to make any sacrifices (other than the interests I will no longer pursue) and that I want to have it all, perhaps it's a bit selfish. Sorry for the vent and thank you for your kind words.
@@PQ_497I understand where you’re coming from! I feel the same way too! It’s this year that I can say I’m truly myself. Most of my life, I was dealing with mental health issues… so I coped by escapism. However, you don’t have to achieve everything at once. It gets overwhelming leading to the thought of “why even bother at this point”, don’t listen to that voice and sabotage yourself. Do what you can in the time you have. Remember, whether you doing something or not time goes on. So, it’s better to do something, achieve some of your goals than not doing anything at all. Also, don’t be hard on yourself for wasting time in the past, it in the past now. Start your new journey today. Don’t worry about the future and don’t dwell on the past. Sending you all the love and positivity 🙌🙌. Matthew 6:34 is “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” In Isaiah 43:18-19, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” God will make away for you an easy your worries!
I completely understand you. Because of mental health issues I wasted so much time too. However, don’t beat yourself up for wasting a time, it’s all in the past now. Your new journey starts the moment you forgive yourself and move on from your past. Remember, whether you’re working on your goals and hobbies or not time flies by. The thought of “not having enough time to work on all hobbies, so why even bother” is self sabotaging. You don’t have to achieve everything what matters is you start doing something. It’s better to achieve and excel in some of your hobbies than nothing. Try to avoid “all or nothing mindset”. Just go with the flow. A struggle I had was and still working on is fear of failure. So, I avoid doing anything, if I think I won’t have more time or I will fail. That mindset only lead to procrastination and regret later on my life. I now understand, we’re here to make mistakes, failing is not the end of the world, dwelling on my past only leads to emotional turmoil, and forgiving yourself and others is the start of your healing journey. Sorry for yapping 😂 I just got the feeling to say this to you! Sending you all love and positivity 🙌 Matthew 6:34 is “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” In Isaiah 43:18-19, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”
Appreciate it 🙏, and yeah I understand what you mean. On the bright side, I think you will appreciate your progress a lot more since you understand what the other side feels like. We all have our set backs, issues, and wasted time but I do think it makes us better off in the long run in most cases. Sounds like some motivational quote Lol but hopefully that makes sense.

I realized being a competent multi-passionate is a lot like habit-stacking. Designing any kind of balanced life requires focus, intention, experimentation / an open-handed mindset, and patience with time.
Exactly, and especially the last part. Wanting things too fast is dangerous, because we end up getting no results. But taking it day by day gets a lot of results 👌
One thing I will and can tell you, be a master of time, ITS UP TO YOU TO DECIDED WHAT TO MASTER. Sooner or later you'll realize there's a lot of different people you'll meet that are masters in there own field. It's your choice to decide what to do with this information. My advice is DONT TAKE MY ADVICE 😂😂😂
I am PhD in physics (actually, i'm scientist now). I have hobbies like a piano playing, guitar playing, biking, carrying weights on gym, inline-roller skating, swimming, and maybe even cooking or baked meals. Maybe not in all, I'm good, but with those hobbies I feel more relaxed in my job.
Nice, Yeah I find that it just feels good overall to do things that you know are progressing you in some way. Even if it's just to pass time (that would otherwise be spent scrolling or whatever). That's awesome!
My current daily routine is an hour each : -piano -finger drumming -DJing - learning how to make music - blender ( it’s for work ) - graphic design ( for work ) - learning Chinese -reading -RUclips So far I have gotten all of them down and have really good results ! On days I feel like I can’t do much I just say do 10-30 mins ; my favourite out of all this is playing the piano
I love your routine, but do you think i could do it too? Even though i do breakdancing and work out? Could i add 3d and music to it too? I feel so overwhelmded that i cant do anything. Especially with a normal work cause i have to pay all my bills. ;(

Not everyone has interests let alone multiple Lol. I find that the world is kind of divided into 2 teams. And this one is a lot smaller than the other one.
There is a saying in french that discribe that happen to people like us. They Say its a "curse" in french: "malédiction de Vinci". It is when you are interested in everything just like Leonardo Da Vinci. He was a polymath and was able to be good, even great on everything he was interested in. He was the proof that it is possible to be an expert on many fields. Thank you for your video man!
Dude this is actually so crazy, I always do this and I’ve never seen people understand. Sometimes it weighs on me too because there is so much I want to do and not enough time. Crazy excited to watch.
I have once received the compliment of being a "man of many talents", which is because I've been living my life exactly as stated in this video. From video games, playing the piano/guitar, sports, programming, graphic design, cooking... It's fun to do stuff, and mastering one thing and one thing only is fine, but unless I was intending on doing this one thing competitively/professionally, I don't see the point in being forced to make a choice in what I do to enjoy!
I recently found you channel and I feel very relieved seeing that there are people out there that actually BELIEVE that it's possible to be good at several things, many people around me tell me that I exaggerate, that it's too much for me, that I'm not going to get anywhere if I keep on doing a lot of things. But, everyone can choose what to do with their OWN LIFE. Thanks for your words, Vaughn. Saludos desde México 🇲🇽👋
Wow, I've never believed i would find other like-minded people but here I am. Multiple languages, photography, dance choreography, fitness, guitar, piano, drawing, were the main interests and yet i never got good at any of them. Possibly bc i was overwhelming myself.
That's right, but also that they teach you subjects in isolation instead of making children aware that, for example, language is connected to history, geography is connected to history, mathematics is connected to practical things, music is connected to physics, and so on and so forth. Also, children learn but they don't really know why and for what purpose they are learning something and how it can be useful to them in practical terms.
@@frankgradus9474 Seriously I feel like i would have learned some of the stuff in physics a bit more easily if we were taught the history behind it and why that concept was originally developed
"And even now, I'm still kind of confused at my own life. And... I live my own life every day." Love it. This is so real. People need to hear that more.
You have the perfect amount of chill for this kind of content; you remind me of my personal trainer. I wanna reduce my screen time, learn my mother’s language, start a comic, and I appreciate someone telling me to do it without demeaning me or yelling in my face.
As a former personal trainer that’s funny to hear Lol. I have never believed in aggressive teaching though yeah. The nervous system doesn’t operate that way. Fear elicits the pre-programmed response. But people try to use fear to teach which just isn’t as effective. It works. Just not as effective.
You have a calm voice and this was a beneficial video, I also want to become a portrait artist, learn the Japanese language, and become an ambidextrous, yoga practitioner, Become advanced meditator. Things I am taking away from the video 1) When do you add a new skill:- a) When you don't struggle to show up b) When you feel weird not doing it for 2- 3 days c) When you have developed some sort of competency 2) Disappear for some time 3) It's ok to quit if you don't feel like continuing it anymore 4) 99% is the work we do and 1% is the learning or knowledge we acquired from videos like this and related stuff
- Drumming - Cooking - Being a great friend and leader - Comedian and delivering the punchline - Running - Playing Guitar - Learning and Speaking French - MMA - Driving - Listening skills (I am Deaf in one ear)!
This is genius. Learning from 0 is really hard. If you start to learn your every interest from 0 at the same time you won't have time nor energy, nor focus, nor motivation. You have to space the learning from zero or the deep learning processes, basically "the hard part". If you build your routine with 10 tasks you're going to drop it... You have make sure you can do a task easily before adding another one! And thank you for pointing out difference of finding out what way follow to get the skill (1%) vs. the time and effort that goes into actually acquiring the skill (99%)... I easily overlook and forget that... :')
Why be a simple "master" when you can have the potential to outshine every other mediocre player. There's already a "everyone has there own style" when you can be THAT STYLE and so much more. That ONE PERCENT is all it takes to be make a difference in the world and for one's own self. Don't overlook starting from scratch, remember it's your point of view that can be used against you
@@imawindis1600 What i meant is not "don't start from scratch", it's "don't start from scratch on multiple things at the same time". Because the first 10 steps will be harder than the steps from 10 to 100. Start another thing only after the new skill you are currently learning becomes somewhat familiar to practice and uphold, a little bit yours
@betulkorkut5215 I understand, however what your now implying is "a skill" do this at 10 so then the next 10 blah BLAH BLAH AT 100 IS LIKE THIS. Get yo fucken shit straight. YES WHAT YOUR SAYING IS CORRECT. HOWEVER WHAT IM IMPLYING IS THAT ONE SKILL CAN CORRELATE OR EVEN ADVAST AND EXPAND ANOTHER SKILL THAT YOUR WORKING ON. For example MUSIC when there's MUSIC THERES DANCE. You get what I'm saying?
@betulkorkut5215 Also COMFTORBILITY, REPETITION AND UNCHANGE MOVEMENTS GETS YOU AND YOUR MINDSET KILLED!!! If you tell your self a certain thing then that THING will be CERTAIN. Yes everyone has there own way of doing things and accomplishing another, let's be realistic we have natural gifts and maybe not all but most are human who excel when put to the pressure
It confuses me though. I really would rather be renown a funny man but also i like playing piano a lot. If i had to choose between either id ditch piano
I played video games as a kid like Mega Drive Snes PS1 and then picked up guitar in my early teens and started a band shortly after. ended up playing some festivals (not main tent) by before 18. Then life took a u turn for oersonal reasons, video games got me out the slump then one day after years I picked up my guitar again and started learning Jazz as a new genre and now I am currently learning Japanese and am currently in the Intermediate plateau iam loving it and I am definetly past the point of no return. I can't stop. I am enjoying native content that I like and it is so rewarding. You have to celebrate the small wins but honestly, that saying is counterintuitive, because usually the small wins are huge wins, you just dont give yourself credit for them enough. Enjoy exploring the skill you are aquiring at any level and remember to enjoy the simple things. You dont need to be a mastermind in your chosen skill to experiment. Experimentation is a great teacher and it can often lead to unique characteristics which are the golden nuggets in any any skill.

Finally ~ I’ve found the ONLY SUCCESSFUL CHANNEL that is not into micro-niche but multi-faceted on RUclips after weeks of digging & this popped up on my RUclips! I feel like I found my online tribe here! I have multiple passions as well: story telling, sharing stories, experiences, my faith, reading book excerpts, interviewing others, teaching beginner tech stuff, sharing past realtor stories; singing - from opera to gospel to Disney covers to lullabies; dancing hula to ballroom & learning how to just lightly play several instruments, along the way! I am a tiny channel because I’ve changed the name many times, not wanting to micro-niche and I was off & on for two decades - but I sort of want to remain on RUclips and document the multi-facets of passions I have, along the way… It’s been frustrating trying to select which category my channel belongs in… Thank you for encouraging us who don’t want to just focus on one thing, because we are passionate about many things and this video ~ gives off so much encouragement and love to those who are multi-dimensional. Thank you, truly!
Glad you’re here, and nice! Yeah eventually people will find you and resonate with you. I feel like doing all this was just more authentic. Probably the same for you! Authentic.
I did not know how to manage my interests sometimes I thought I should just forget them and try new things but now thanks to your video I learned to handle them. Thanks bro and go ahead
This video is beyond relatable man. I got burned out a couple months ago because my New Year’s resolutions was a huge list of reading 24 books, hitting 1,000lbs SBD total, running a marathon, hitting sub 30 seconds on Rubik’s Cube, picking up guitar again, hitting 1500 chess rating, etc and it was just way too much. I actually started therapy a couple months ago to address a lot of these thought patterns and feeling like I should be doing more but I’ve learned that hobbies and novelty are a huge aspect of my life. I’ve stuck with the core hobbies that I genuinely enjoy and that don’t take energy to commit to and slowly adding things that interest me over time. It’s a really fun process
This is actually so comforting- I thought I was strange for having all these different passions. And the messed up thing is that I have the desire just not the momentum or motivation. Like when I tried clay sculpting- I sucked at my first time so ironically I wound up thinking I’d fail at it just overall. But, I guess we shouldn’t focus whether or not we’re “great” at something but whether or not we enjoy what we’re doing. As humans, we aren’t gonna be fantastic at everything especially not the first time. So, my best advice is to just go with the flow sometimes. Overtime you’ll start to get better. But, maybe we don’t actually have to be good at things to enjoy them. That was mostly for myself- but maybe someone else is struggling with the same problem:) We got this, fam
Bro I heavy mess with your channel, this is my only comment on this website, its just ive been thinking about this kind of stuff for the longest time. i resonate a ton with your message and your content. APPRECIATE THE VIDEOS!! keep at it brother
Means a lot 🙏 thank you! It’s definitely my ‘secret’ to success overall so I want the same for others. Everyone can watch what they need real quick, and then go live life.
The worst thing is that I have so much interest that it's hard to keep track of most of them. Waking up everyday and having different goals occupying my mind is not good for mental health. This is the problem of the modern internet, everyone wants your attention which makes you more ambitious, but more bloated with ideas, unoriginal ideas mostly. Looking back, it really is a matter of focus and discipline. Being consistent with one thing and setting aside other things for other days, making peace with them day by day per se.
Yes exactly, the main point of these last two videos is exactly that. There nothing you are really missing out on by finding more content. This includes mine! Far better for you to just go practice or study and figure things out as you go!
Same here bro! i literally have 6-7 different hobbies/passion since im a kid and i just feel its too much. I really need to prioritize and reduce them, and this is the hardest part cuz i cant, i dont wanna get rid of any. Exactly the opposite, i find more and more things that make me excited without looking for one. (Its crazy that i know a lot of people who doesnt have any hobbies and doesnt get excited about anything even if they are searching for it…) Its really hard to imagine with my head 😅. So yeah i think this is the hard part for us who can be excited about a lot of things, to organize and manage time, energy and focus just like Vaugh said. But we got this ❤

99% + 1% rule is so fire! another creator, josh czuba makes vids about consumption of content + overstimulation, and recently i watched a video where he talked about how if you eat a big meal on thanksgiving, your body needs ample time to digest that, and if you just continue eating and don’t give ur body a break, you would never be able to absorb and use those nutrients. he compares this to content consumption, explaining that if we are in a constant state of stimulation, we don’t have the opportunity for what he calls “mental digestion”. his point was that you have to give yourself silence + actually absorb the knowledge and skills you’re learning via content. i feel like so many of us get trapped in a cycle of consuming, planning, trying to get perfect before actually doing the work + this leads to no end. only through putting in 99% of our own work to digest + use what we are learning in the 1% can we start to make real progress. thank you for this!

Bro I relate on so many things. - I play Guitar and Piano - I did martial arts when I was a teen (taekwondo) - Im a software engineer (my 9-5) - I'm learning Japanese right now - I play video games I grew up knowing that im good at many things and always looked at being jack of all trades as a good thing until I started my YT channel where so many gurus would say "niche down" and then I started looking at myself as a "Master of none" and after 6 years or so, Im ok with me being a Jack of all trades again because I realized I might be master of none but its better than being master of one. To me its all about calendar blocks and set a time for each one of my interests. Great Video!
Nice, yeah it is a far more fulfilling life to be a jack of all trades, because after a certain point, the benefits drop off a LOT. I will explain why in a future video to help ease the idea more!
Funny enough, this is misquoted often, but the FULL original quote is: "A jack of all trades is a master of none, BUT oftentimes better than a master of one"
Thanks bro. I started getting lost with so many completely different passions that I stopped everything. Im just gonna focus on the one thing that I treasure most, making music/worshipping 🙌🏼
Wow. My algorithm has finally led me to something I truly relate to. Thanks for making these videos. They've resonated greatly with where my headspace currently is.
Dudeeeee I’ve never encountered a video so relatable 😂. Having too many passions has often led me to stagnation due to not knowing what was actually worth the time investment. Between learning how to start this RUclips channel and everything that comes with it (recording and editing), getting better at guitar/music theory, working out, trying to relearn my native tongue (Japanese) and my regular 9-5, it’s hard not to get overwhelmed. So this was incredibly useful and a huge comfort knowing there are other people like this and that there are solutions to satisfying multiple interests. Appreciate ya man 🙏
I tried to tell my Mom almost this exact thing. I learned how to grind in Skyrim and then applied that grind to Engineering XD. This video gave me a boost because I really want to focus up on being a better musician. Thanks so much for this bump in motivation.
Nice! Yes I really do believe that gamers have an advantage in a sense. Or anyone who is used to ‘grinding’. It’s just about moving that over when you’re ready 👍
@@giuliar2539I guess he means speading countless hours doing repetitive tasks to get a fulfilling reward in the end in the form of stats. That could also be applied in engeneering and learning by doing things that are not that interesting individualy but with the goal of becoming good at them, which in the end is fulfilling when you can tackle things you couldn't before
I thought this was gonna be like all those other self improvement videos some stuff that everyone repeats blabla, another jacked dude telling me to wake up at 5 am. But man this was truly helpful, and I learned. You are very inspiring.
Hey Glad I could shift your perspective a bit! Lol I don’t blame you though. I can’t stand those guys as much as the next person. In fact I probably am even more annoyed at them because we look the same 😂. I am guilty by association until proven innocent.
Thank you for this!!! Very helpful !! I'm a Techie, chef, podcaster, musician, beginner pianist, writer and the list seems to keep going on. Focus is the only solution. Sometimes, one of the interests will suffer than the other and that's fine. Focusing on one at a time will help you develop one until it becomes second nature.
No problem, glad you found it useful. It’s so easy for us to jump from thing to thing out of excitement. The long game has really worked out well for me so hopefully it does for you too.
Yes! Drawing, language learning, gardening, sewing, crochet, learning in general, baking, fermenting...dabbled in glass etching, stained glass and leather too.
I love your videos Vaughn. I currently live in Japan and I am trying to self-study for the Japanese proficiency test. I also have a lot of similar interests such as bass, web development, and creating art. I just started a RUclips channel to hopefully keep me accountable. It is very hard for me to focus. Watching your videos have been helpful. I had set small goals to help me continue learning my interests. Your previous advice on continuing to stick with one set of videos / mastering one video was very helpful too. I have come to this conclusion that I should stick with one type of material for learning Japanese before moving onto the next type of material. I keep adding so much that it paralysed me sometimes. I can not wait to see more from you!
Oh nice! We do have a lot of common. And thank you! 🙏 looking forward to making more. & yes absolutely, especially for things like Japanese and Music which require a LOT of hours of repetition in order to make it subconscious. Happy to see you’re finding them useful! I miss Japan so much as a side note Lol and can’t wait to move back and hang with my friends there again. And the food. I can write a whole essay on that alone…
Nice, it is alike Lol, Tricking is quite fun. I’m not expert at it by any means, but I have a theory that when you learn things that require lots of muscle memory, it actually makes you better at other muscle memory tasks. So tricking makes your bass playing/learning better. Just a theory I’m going to talk about one day from my experience.
@@vaughngene my smallest talent is probably sports, I remember that I hit a wall playing soccer, I could not get myself to shoot well and pretty much only was decent at passing, then I started playing basketball and somehow I got better at both just by playing basketball
There is a lot of power in focusing on *ONE* thing at a time. Once get good at that thing, you can move on to the next and retain the key skills for what you learned previously. Over time, you’ll find that everything you learn converges into something truly great. I did: - soccer + fitness - content creation - front-end coding + web analytics - investing + entrepreneurship - writing The latter is what I am most focused on at the moment. Reading and literature is my first passion but I never really did anything with it. But it’s where my love of great stories came from. Also, I had to learn to speak two languages growing up, and I moved a lot, so I feel this all plays into my interest in learning different things. Great video Vaughn!

As long as you get along with yourself and take responsibility for everything that happens in your life, Being single and living alone gives you so much peace, focus and power. Some people just can't sit five minutes by themselves.. always seeking to get distracted with something just to not face discomfort.
If you look at the introductory sentence of most great people’s Wikipedia pages they often list 3-5 careers. Example 1: Ben Franklin: a leading writer, scientist, inventor, statesman, diplomat, printer, publisher and political philosopher Example 2: Peter Matthiessen (successful writer): American novelist, naturalist, wilderness writer, zen teacher and onetime CIA agent. Successful people are typically curious, and curious people are incapable of burrowing into one subject. They’re meant to explore, learning transferable skills in each area that help them advance in their other interests. Just an observation. Great video!
even a video like this cant help me, i have so many interests it is unbelievable. I could never choose 2 or 3 of them over dozens. Im a generalist, and i think i now why. Autistic and ADHD people (i have both) have something thats called special interests; well, there are different terms, one of those is special interest, other one is hyperfixation. The hyperfix is kinda like, you get obsesses with something, and start intensely researching/consuming/enjoying it for some time, like, it could be 2 weeks, it could be 2 months, you know, and then the obsession disappears and you go to the next thing. Special interest is like hyperfixation but on a grand scale, its a hyperfixation that never goes away in your life. For example, i, for most of my life, would have said that my biggest special interest is videogames, or science. But recently i realized its not. The reason im such a generalist and i look for any type of knowledge is because of my biggest special interest, which was difficult to identify. My most important, biggest, special interest, is the understanding of reality. Anything that is part of reality, anything that works under rules, any kind of reasoning, or proof, or thinking. Any kind of system. All of it. I need to understand all of it. Every possible system or rule. Thats my special interest, and thats weird because it has some unexpected consequences, like the need for being a generalist (thats more expected) or the indecision that comes with it. I cant choose just one or two things because in the long term, overall, i want to learn everything. I know this goal may seem unrealistic to most people, but remember the world is going to change in the next 10 years, in many multiple senses, so it may be possible to understand everything throughout the centuries. I really dont know. But i will never stop consuming knowledge
I think having a lot of knowledge about different subjects is a good interest of its own. Maybe not 'doing' them all per say, but having a lot of information and understanding about them may be all you actually want to do. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
I totally feel you…. I have the same. My curiosity is unstoppable even since im little kid. I can get obsessed with every tiny thing easily. Also have 7-8 hobbies currently. Im looking for the deepest answers until i dont figure them out. And i always do. Its super hard and exhausting, but atnthe same time its incridebly valuable and unique! So all my respect and love. (Btw i dont have diagnosis but 99% i have both too… maybe i should get the "papers" too)
Take a step back from consuming content, maybe consider unsubbing too from things (including my channel) and that may help! Just come back when you have some interests Lol. Best of luck tho.

man, it is so refreshing to see so many people with the same interest as i do going through a tough time right now i just feel lost and don't know what to put my energy into this video has helped put things into perspective
Not sure if you'll read this but this video doesn't just speak to me, it literally slaps the back of my head and demands my attention. I'm going through the EXACT same thing. I went from hours and hours of video games and screen time to meditation, reading a book, studying languages, doing Muay Thai, Boxing, swimming, lifting, basically just doing everything good for me, not even by force, but by genuine interest to better myself, im saving up to buy a Syntheziser soon and learn to play. I even started doing Tai Chi from home. I've changed DRASTICALLY and all i do is time management and planning, thanks for this video. God Bless!
I got summoned here as a multi-hobbyist! The comment section is full of people with whom i share similare hobbies and its beautiful to see. I'm someone that can't stand doing one thing alone, so liking doings several things at once has always been a part of who i am. Some things i have tried out of curiousity and quickly learned, i don't really enjoy doing them, other things have been a constant in my life and I haven't lost the joy and self-challenging aspects i feel while doing them. I recommend giving yourself some time to learn what you like and what you don't, what fits your schedule, what you can do both indoor and outdoors, that way you will use your time wisely 😊
An obsession with mastering basketball and piano at a young age got me into learning -Singing -Guitar -Spanish -Writing -Psychology -Spirituality -Communication -Video editing -Cinematography -Health & fitness I don't even know where to continue, but one at a time really makes sense for the stack of skills you'll have in the future.
This was exactly what I needed to see, thank you for sharing. Been a trucker for the past 3 years post-pandemic, which I thought was killing my interests. Turns out I was wasting so much time doom scrolling and binge watching youtube. Drastically lowering the time watching other people do stuff - freed up time for guitar, music production, fitness, cooking and coding - all of which give me purpose and a sense of satisfaction. Subscribed and looking forward to more of your videos.
Its genuinely cathartic having found this video. My whole life I've never really had anyone around me who has picked up and mentally struggled with juggling so many hobbies like I do. It honestly became demoralizing to pick something up just to lose interest or feel demotivated after just a few weeks. But since March I've been trying to take up art, while also improving at guitar and other creative endeavors. The progress has been slow, but I haven't given up. Even when I miss a streak, I've always come back. Creating that routine has been immensely helpful. Thanks for the video man, it helps to see other people just like me going through the same struggles and trying to improve. I wish everyone the best.
Guitar was my main focus and passion since the age of 5. Over a decade later I started learning BJJ, running, piano, getting all A’s in school and a RUclips Channel.

Yeah it’s a really fulfilling life! 👌
@@TodayTestfbsfbsfbs I have a video coming out soon about Micro-Specialism that I think you’ll like.
It addresses this idea 👌
There are general doctors, and specialist doctors. Neither one are a scam, they each fulfill a different purpose. Same with marketing. Your clients are not being scammed, it could just be they need the right approach. There are situations where specializing is better, and others where having a general knowledge is better. They are complimentary traits, hence why we live in a society where our complimentary skills and traits are set up to help one another.

Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
In Isaiah 43:18-19, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”
God will make away for you an easy your worries!
Sending you all love and positivity 🙌

In Isaiah 43:18-19, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”
For the last 5 years I’m acting in theatre, composing, teaching the piano, playing videogames and hiking. I’ve never been so happy.
Skateboarding, snowboarding, biking, making music (3-4 different genre), drawing, animating (both 2d and 3d), story/screenwriting, working out and mobility, oh and a lot of psychology yes. Im so glad ive found thid video, not to mention the comment section haha❤love yall
Yeah it's nice to see all the different things people are into.
Helps me shape my future examples a lot better too.
Thanks so much for this video!!
My current daily routine is an hour each :
-piano
-finger drumming
-DJing
- learning how to make music
- blender ( it’s for work )
- graphic design ( for work )
- learning Chinese
-reading
-RUclips
So far I have gotten all of them down and have really good results ! On days I feel like I can’t do much I just say do 10-30 mins ; my favourite out of all this is playing the piano
Sick! Seems like you have a really good routine.
If you’re seeing results definitely stick to it!
I love your routine, but do you think i could do it too? Even though i do breakdancing and work out? Could i add 3d and music to it too? I feel so overwhelmded that i cant do anything. Especially with a normal work cause i have to pay all my bills. ;(

Here is part 2 that I added onto this,

I have once received the compliment of being a "man of many talents", which is because I've been living my life exactly as stated in this video. From video games, playing the piano/guitar, sports, programming, graphic design, cooking... It's fun to do stuff, and mastering one thing and one thing only is fine, but unless I was intending on doing this one thing competitively/professionally, I don't see the point in being forced to make a choice in what I do to enjoy!
Nice! And yeah mastery in general is VERY overrated.
I’ll talk about it on this channel someday.
Same. My coworker called me the most eccentric person they've met. I was flattered 😌
Hey glad you found this then!
Yeah it’s always better to find out for yourself rather than let others beliefs limit you!
Wow, I've never believed i would find other like-minded people but here I am.
Multiple languages, photography, dance choreography, fitness, guitar, piano, drawing, were the main interests and yet i never got good at any of them. Possibly bc i was overwhelming myself.
Yeah that could be the case, so hope this helps! 👌
I also noticed this when I started self learning in the pandemic, now remember the school system, they force feed you 10 subjects at once
Yes exactly! so much at once just ruins the input.
I think a lot of it is un-learning how we thought we were supposed to learn.

1) When do you add a new skill:-
a) When you don't struggle to show up
b) When you feel weird not doing it for 2- 3 days
c) When you have developed some sort of competency
2) Disappear for some time
3) It's ok to quit if you don't feel like continuing it anymore
4) 99% is the work we do and 1% is the learning or knowledge we acquired from videos like this and related stuff

- Comedian and delivering the punchline
- Running
- Playing Guitar

This is genius. Learning from 0 is really hard. If you start to learn your every interest from 0 at the same time you won't have time nor energy, nor focus, nor motivation. You have to space the learning from zero or the deep learning processes, basically "the hard part". If you build your routine with 10 tasks you're going to drop it... You have make sure you can do a task easily before adding another one! And thank you for pointing out difference of finding out what way follow to get the skill (1%) vs. the time and effort that goes into actually acquiring the skill (99%)... I easily overlook and forget that... :')
Yes exactly! These things help me out a lot so glad they can help you too.
"What would I want to be known for"...i love that idea...makes it easy to choose
Yeah it was a random thought a long time ago that really stuck with me!
I'm tennis player, musician, producer, illustrator, dancer and I have an PhD in neuroscience. Learning its the only thing that I enjoy more haha.
I don't really understand how difficult is for other people learning new thing. But for me, its exiting.
I think some people are more drawn to learning more than others.
Just more curious.
All brains are different.
“Learn to love learning.” I don’t remember where I heard that from. But once I figured out how, life seemed to be more enjoyable.
Yo, I'm interested in neuroscience too, but it's in my "for later" list since I have other stuff to do now.
Anyway, any resources you would recommend for learning it?

Finally ~ I’ve found the ONLY SUCCESSFUL CHANNEL that is not into micro-niche but multi-faceted on RUclips after weeks of digging & this popped up on my RUclips! I feel like I found my online tribe here! I have multiple passions as well: story telling,
sharing stories,
experiences,
my faith,
reading book excerpts,
interviewing others,
teaching beginner tech stuff,
sharing past realtor stories;
singing - from opera to gospel to Disney covers to lullabies;
dancing hula to ballroom & learning how to just lightly play several instruments, along the way!
I am a tiny channel because I’ve changed the name many times, not wanting to micro-niche and I was off & on for two decades - but I sort of want to remain on RUclips and document the multi-facets of passions I have, along the way…
It’s been frustrating trying to select which category my channel belongs in…
Thank you for encouraging us who don’t want to just focus on one thing, because we are passionate about many things and this video ~ gives off so much encouragement and love to those who are multi-dimensional.
Man, this is exactly the video i needed. i feel like i am so “decent” at everything i’m passionate about.
Nice, it’s good you got your scope right!
As the years pass you’ll have better results this way anyways imo.

Your voice is very soothing and listening to you gives me hope that there are still good people left in this world. Thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you 🙏 , and no problem. Glad I could help keep your optimism.
I needed this - to remind me I'm allowed multiple pursuits - just need the FOCUS on ONE at a TIME.
I also have this same problem and made me reflux 😬🥲

I grew up knowing that im good at many things and always looked at being jack of all trades as a good thing until I started my YT channel where so many gurus would say "niche down" and then I started looking at myself as a "Master of none" and after 6 years or so, Im ok with me being a Jack of all trades again because I realized I might be master of none but its better than being master of one.
To me its all about calendar blocks and set a time for each one of my interests.

I will explain why in a future video to help ease the idea more!
Funny enough, this is misquoted often, but the FULL original quote is:
"A jack of all trades is a master of none, BUT oftentimes better than a master of one"

Wow. My algorithm has finally led me to something I truly relate to. Thanks for making these videos. They've resonated greatly with where my headspace currently is.
Hey glad you found them then! It seems to be a popular topic these days to my surprise.

Nice! Yes I really do believe that gamers have an advantage in a sense.
Or anyone who is used to ‘grinding’.
It’s just about moving that over when you’re ready 👍
If I may ask, what do you mean by "learned to grind on Skyrim"?
@@giuliar2539I guess he means speading countless hours doing repetitive tasks to get a fulfilling reward in the end in the form of stats. That could also be applied in engeneering and learning by doing things that are not that interesting individualy but with the goal of becoming good at them, which in the end is fulfilling when you can tackle things you couldn't before
I thought this was gonna be like all those other self improvement videos some stuff that everyone repeats blabla, another jacked dude telling me to wake up at 5 am. But man this was truly helpful, and I learned. You are very inspiring.

The latter is what I am most focused on at the moment. Reading and literature is my first passion but I never really did anything with it. But it’s where my love of great stories came from.
Also, I had to learn to speak two languages growing up, and I moved a lot, so I feel this all plays into my interest in learning different things.
Great video Vaughn!
Exactly! I’m going to talk about that someday here.
And thanks!
I am an electrical engineer designer, music producer, and runner here!!! My next passion is investing.
I am an EE student, what stuff do you suggest focusing on to be better at it?
@@trussedflame6868 I would suggest get an internship as soon as you can. I started as an intern my junior year. I gained alot of experience and they offered me a full time position after I graduated. As soon as you start working full time, take advantage of 401k match if your employer has it and HSA. START INVESTING YOUNG!! Get your FE ASAP. Do not wait tooo long to take it. Keep developing new skills!!

@@trussedflame6868 one thing you could do is to develop EE projects that would benefit your other hobbies. Im a CE undergrad, but also want to pursue guitar and drifting. So, Ive been working on designing a bjt amplifier for a distortion pedal and also designing a sim wheel to practice drifting on pc.
I'm 17 years old and currently studying music theory on my own, seeing that someone is doing the same and getting great results is very inspiring! You are such an amazing individual! (im sorry, english is not my native language '-')
Hey thank you so much! And your English is fine 👌

That's so cool man. Currently I am also studying music theory as I want to make music in the future. What is your approach to this topic because I personally find it quite hard to find some proper resources. Greetings 😁

3. Running

Love your vids bro. Quit smoking and am struggling to find things to fill my time and these videos are a blessing.
Congrats on stopping! That’s awesome.
, I have a friend who stopped cold turkey and never went back. He replaced it with exercises and good hobbies also 👌 .
And appreciate it 🙏
I remember seeing your video on my timeline one day, i pressed the save button to watch it later but somehow the video wasn't on the list. I kept trying to find it but couldn't. Today it appeared on my recommended again. I'm grateful 🙏
Welcome back!
Being single / living alone helps a lot as well
As long as you get along with yourself and take responsibility for everything that happens in your life, Being single and living alone gives you so much peace, focus and power.
Some people just can't sit five minutes by themselves.. always seeking to get distracted with something just to not face discomfort.
I started to be single again so I'll see how I will do :D

Thank you! 💪, as long as people get something out of it.
If you look at the introductory sentence of most great people’s Wikipedia pages they often list 3-5 careers.
Example 1: Ben Franklin: a leading writer, scientist, inventor, statesman, diplomat, printer, publisher and political philosopher
Example 2: Peter Matthiessen (successful writer): American novelist, naturalist, wilderness writer, zen teacher and onetime CIA agent.
Successful people are typically curious, and curious people are incapable of burrowing into one subject. They’re meant to explore, learning transferable skills in each area that help them advance in their other interests.
Just an observation. Great video!
Good point! I never really thought about that.
even a video like this cant help me, i have so many interests it is unbelievable.
@@vaughngene Yeah, it was just a thought about it, not a complaint or anything uwu
(Btw i dont have diagnosis but 99% i have both too… maybe i should get the "papers" too)
I'm saving this, I have been wondering how to juggle everything that interests me. So glad to find multifaceted people like me. Thanks for the video
What about... no interests?

Crazy to stumble upton this and see people with the same struggle. Add this one - how many of yall feel like you never have enough free time to master those skills? Its all work, sleep, eat, family life, and if your lucky 30 min to an hour free a day
One day at a time, but part 2 of this may actually help you out a bit more.
When my daughter grows up, this is the main thing i want to teach her. I have my own hobbies id love to share, from guitar, skateboarding, mma, and coding. But the most important thing is the discovery of being able to learn how to learn, and how any of your hobbies can prime you to learn anything you want
man, it is so refreshing to see so many people with the same interest as i do going through a tough time right now i just feel lost and don't know what to put my energy into this video has helped put things into perspective
Guitar.
Piano.
Art.
Italian.
Reading.
Cooking. And much more. It's hard to do everything but I enjoy it
Not sure if you'll read this but this video doesn't just speak to me, it literally slaps the back of my head and demands my attention. God Bless!
Nice, cool to see you made that switch as well! God Bless!
Absolutely love this video, being a musician, climber, photographer and videographer and still just a 22 year old going to work to my 9-5. Thanks!
Nice! You have a lot ahead of you too!
Im doing painting, graphic design, music production, strength training and running. So this deeply speaks to me.
I got summoned here as a multi-hobbyist! The comment section is full of people with whom i share similare hobbies and its beautiful to see. I'm someone that can't stand doing one thing alone, so liking doings several things at once has always been a part of who i am. Some things i have tried out of curiousity and quickly learned, i don't really enjoy doing them, other things have been a constant in my life and
I haven't lost the joy and self-challenging aspects i feel while doing them. I recommend giving yourself some time to learn what you like and what you don't, what fits your schedule, what you can do both indoor and outdoors, that way you will use your time wisely 😊

Nice! I do think we all have more time than we think, but I think it is something that people have to see on their own.
Nice, good to see you have a groove started though.
Glad this helps! Just come back when you need to.
@@vaughngene Thanks man I appreciate it!
