  • GoPro has made it easy to get the feel of what it is like to sit in the chair of a musical theater percussionist. I recorded this during a live performance of King Kong on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre in New York City.
This was an incredibly satisfying percussion book to perform. Skull Island provided a nice landscape of sounds. Early in the video you can see the use of a spring drum and LP cricket effect that immediately flows into the taiko drum part that has a double time feel our of nowhere. And the use of the African seed rattles and Thai nipple gongs add great textures. This is a nice introduction the great ape's appearance in the play's plot. Warren Odze is rocking the drum book.
I offer a performance clinic (A Glimpse Into the World of a Broadway Musician) that takes you from the moment your hired for a Broadway show to the very first performance. Visit daveroth.com
