What’s tragic about scp-049 is that he truly believes he’s serving the greater good, that he’s a savior to the infected, a savior to world from the pestilence. He’s the hero of his own story, not a villain. And because of that he can’t be dissuaded, or reasoned with, or convinced to stop; he’ll die first. All his butchering, mutilation, and killing is mercy in his eyes, it’s the cure. He’ll save the world from the pestilence, whether they want it or not.
The thing is we can not say if this is true or not so maybe he is the hero we need it may be necessary to look that way because no one is sure about this whether he is a hero or villain no one knows

To me is sad how after killing Dr. Hamm, the felt mournful about his death and regretted killing him. Even the stone cold killer seems to regret killing a fellow doctor and friend, and seeing the built up trust between him and the SCP foundation crumble so quickly.
The most fascinating thing about 049 to me is the fact that he’s completely intelligent and aware of what he’s doing, but he seems to be oblivious to how horrifying what he does is to everyone else, or is amused by it, yet somehow without any malice, like how a child enjoys seeing someone with their butt on fire screaming and panicking. He’s a man of science at his core, and morals, or at least _our_ morals, and _our_ standards of “normalcy” and nature simply aren’t a part of the science he practices.

Hearing the word "Plague" come out of the creature's beak, She replied: "Sure. I'm gonna trust you about plagues. I'll bet you've got a cure that's most effective, too?" The creature shrieked and brought its hand to its face in outrage: "From where, might I inquire, did you collect that vile turn of phrase?" The investigator replied carefully. Even though that incident happened, in the doctor's mind, he is doing all of that for a greater good and that in fact, for him, all he is doing is help others of a sickness that is fully real in his view of the world- And others pretty much can't convince him otherwise. He has good intentions, he seems to genuinely worry about the existence of the pestilence and is cooperative to the foundation, but he just lacks the proper behavior to express these intentions of helping that he has
I'm not sure the Pestilence is actually a thing, since whenever it's brought up, 049 gets all cryptic and evasive. It might just be a rationalization to let 049 think of himself as a good guy while doing what he really wants to do: dissect and reanimate corpses.
I don't know why but I think I've watched so many SCP-049 Videos that now I love him more than I used to. Like if someone makes fun of him, I feel like standing up for him.
I think that the “pestilence “ is cataract Because - most people have it - it is undetectable until old age - he is similar to medieval plague doctors who went as far to think blood letting was a cure so killing and bringing them back from the dead would be considered medical treatment for medieval Europe
The main questions left standing for me is.. Was the pledge doctor born this way? Was he ever human at all? When he was a child, was he normal but slowly grew up interested in this sorta science? Does he remember his past? Could someone ask him about it?
the pestilence is fear because the foundation researchers are fearless, they largely dont have pestilence but cuz dr. hamm was fearful of something that session, he got the pestilence
I think the pestilence is rejecting the idea that there is a pestilence which actually makes the plague doctor anxious. As long as everybody believe him he considers them as fellow scientists
i think the pestilence is the entity from scp 5000-why that is most likely the reason he stays vague about it because when people find out they practically go insane
I feel like someone or something once convinced the Doctor of the Pestilence and its effects. The Doctor might not actually know what it is, but he does not question it.
I've seen thousands of people say the pestilence is mortality, and I would love to bat around this being a possible theory that the pestilence is mortality, however, 049 has encountered 096 and 682, both of which he said has the worst case of it he has ever seen. Especially with 682, so much to where he fears it. Both 682 and 096 is, so far, immortal, so therefore, this theory doesn't hold much water. What does hold water and could be possible though, is something we as humans share with both 682 in general and 096 when someone looks at it's face; Malice. I think the pestilence has something to do with malice. We as humans, all have evil at our core, greed, lust, envy, wrath, etc. That is basic human nature, but we can learn to deal with it and manage it. Out of all evil, though you may think greed or lust is the most prominent one's in humans, on the other hand, wrath/malice is the most destructive, and very self destructive too, like an infectious disease or rather, as 049 himself said, "a systematic imbalance". 049 will state many times he is a physician, and it goes against his very nature to harm people as one, having taken an oath for it even. So this means, 049 cannot have malice, so he cannot be infected with the pestilence as he stated before, and a reason he got offended during an interview being asked if he can be infected. 049 has also stated that the pestilence is less present in the SCP foundation among the personnel, the MTF(Mobile Task Force) and researchers. Why is this related to malice? Because these SCP personnel has to endure horrid things every day with where and how they work. They become numb to malice, they become cold or indifferent, in order to carry out their orders. This theory is even more confirmed by how 035 and 039 is mortal enemies, 049 calling him a villain, and what did 035 comment about with 682? He was seething with malice, something 035 enjoys and loves, the exact opposite of 049, and hence why he's a villain to him. He's the hero in his book, trying to cure malice, while 035 enjoys in a theatrical, fascinating sense, and wants it around. Even more evidence for this is when 049 "cured" 096. What happened in that story when he "cured" him? He was no longer driven by the madness that always consumed and push him to kill people looking at it's face. He was no longer malicious, causing destruction to others and it's own self that makes it weep and wail in the corner. The pestilence has got to be malice, there's no other explanation closer for what it could be that I've seen. Second Note: It also explains why he made a hole multiple times in his patients chest, carving out their "core", trying to rid the malice which takes root in humans, and all living beings core that are more alike to humans. Also why he opts for changing his patients into zombies, of which you could argue they have malice, but they do not. They are devoid of any basic fundamental things that make life. Including malice. They are dead, they do not think, feel, or anything, only do what they're told by 049. Without. Malice. They're /cured/. Third Note I've Taken: Right before Dr. Hammond's death, take note how the civility is specifically mentioned having crumbled. They've become impatient with 049. Frustrated. Irritated. Sending a researcher who dedicates his life to acquiring information, desperate for answers, right to the SCP for another interview that denies and refuses him explanation? Of course that will set him off to hold disdain for 049. His frustration became malice, something we can all say we've fallen victim to when we don't like someone for whatever reason. 049 notices this. He can see the pestilence. He can see Hammond's malice. Therefore he killed him to "cure" him.

Man I’ve been being driven insane by this question according to scp lore the plague doctors cloak and mask are part of his body if this is the case is he just nude then!?
I have an idea. 049's understanding of science and medicine is stuck in the middle ages, probably around the time of the black death. I suggest an interview with two objectives. First, ask the plague doctor for an explanation of his own understanding of disease in general, making sure to explain how his understanding of science differs from ours. He might at least give an explanation of how he understands the term "disease," and how he defines it. The interviewer must avoid talking about the pestilence, so as to not agitate 049. If he discusses disease in general, we might understand his thought process. Objective 2: if the above is successful, explain to him our modern knowledge of the germ theory, and the history of medicine and how it has evolved as we better understand the natural world around us. Provide him with a microscope, and samples of bacteria, fungi, and other microscopic organisms. Explain to him that the Four Humors is an obsolete idea and is not based in real science, and is not real. Teach him how we understand infection, sterilization, and treatment. Show him the power of antibiotics. Then, and only then he might understand why we don't know what the pestilence is. Whenever we ask about the pestilence he is annoyed, because he assumes that we are medieval scientists like him, and that we should know, and it's not worth an explanation. If we basically teach him the modern theories of medicine and science, he could come round.
This made me realize that maybe the pestilence is something modern medicine has vaccination against, or herd immunity, or is no longer deadly due to improved sanitation. Maybe it does exist, but in 049's time it was like measles the death sentence to everyone, while today, you're only screwed if you get it as an adult.

I wonder if the Plague Doctor can read the Voynich manuscript or if it was created by him. The part about his notes being unreadable by code breakers really reminds me of the manuscript.
The pestilence is simply the unnecessary emotions of the human brain, such as anxiety and depression. His lack in psychological knowledge is the primary reason he hasn't found the cute for the medicine does not exist in a physical sense.
So my question is, what happens if we asked him to find the genetic signature for his pestilence? Just give him the equipment he needs to do it, plenty of tissue samples, and ask him to isolate it. What would he show to try and prove the pestilence existence? Shouldn't be hard to convince him to use more modern techniques, if cleft can get him into the infinite Ikea, he can figure this one out.

It would be ironic if it was discovered that he’s the only one immune to it but is also the soul cause of the pestilence and if he ever did the proper research or just cooperated with any medical group, they’d discover he could cure it himself by doing a donation procedure that would likely cause his death. Then again…. *how do we know he doesn’t?*
Judging from what I’ve seen so far both with this and his interactions with the weeping man, I’m guessing “the pestilence” is death by natural decay and his goal is to conquer death for any and all life forms. His goal appears to be a sort of perfect necromancy which revives anyone, soul and all.
I honestly want to speak to the plague doctor. What you could try to do was convince him to share exactly what his 'cure' is, and that the scholars and researchers can help in other ways than test subjects
Has it been ever attempted for the researchers to ask SCP-049 to write his next piece of research findings in English or medieval French? He probably wouldn't cooperate with that but it might've be worth a shot.
I kind of wonder if he's able to perceive an extra dimension and it allows him to see something affecting people that we wouldn't notice otherwise, like some extra-dimensional parasite, and that's what he calls the Pestilence.

Gotta love the freshblook for 049, model quality improved considerably
Even though that incident happened, in the doctor's mind, he is doing all of that for a greater good and that in fact, for him, all he is doing is help others of a sickness that is fully real in his view of the world- And others pretty much can't convince him otherwise. He has good intentions, he seems to genuinely worry about the existence of the pestilence and is cooperative to the foundation, but he just lacks the proper behavior to express these intentions of helping that he has
Everything about this video was enjoyable, loved it a lot. Also I love the thumbnail
I'm not sure the Pestilence is actually a thing, since whenever it's brought up, 049 gets all cryptic and evasive. It might just be a rationalization to let 049 think of himself as a good guy while doing what he really wants to do: dissect and reanimate corpses.
It could me he's just making an immortality operation
I'm wondering if mortality is the pestilence tbh...
I don't know why but I think I've watched so many SCP-049 Videos that now I love him more than I used to. Like if someone makes fun of him, I feel like standing up for him.
Seems like such a chill SCP when compared, but in games it's like
049 : DIE AND JOIN MY ARMY
This man(the owner of this video) can talk about death and I'll be all ears like- his voice is so soothing
I love the detail of a researcher going in for a handshake with 049 and jumping back, realizing why he shouldn’t.

I think that the “pestilence “ is cataract
Because
- most people have it
- it is undetectable until old age
- he is similar to medieval plague doctors who went as far to think blood letting was a cure so killing and bringing them back from the dead would be considered medical treatment for medieval Europe
Thank you. Boring and unimaginative. The two traits I look for in works of fiction.
The main questions left standing for me is..
Was the pledge doctor born this way? Was he ever human at all? When he was a child, was he normal but slowly grew up interested in this sorta science?
Does he remember his past? Could someone ask him about it?
I can't wait for my own SCP to be finished.
Really!? What SCP is it?

The fact that the scp foundation is afraid of the plague doctor poking someone’s eye out with a stick is oddly hilarious
oh crap he has a stick we better fear him now
In the Spanish branch of the Scp foundation there’s a tale of Scp-049 was in Herman’s Fuller of the Disquieting.
the pestilence is fear
because the foundation researchers are fearless, they largely dont have pestilence
but cuz dr. hamm was fearful of something that session, he got the pestilence
props to whoever drew the thumbnail,it looks awesome!
I miss the videos of new SCPs, not just rehashing ones we've already seen
I liked how that poor D-class blah-blah-ed all the way up till the second he died, that certainly made me laugh
I think the pestilence is rejecting the idea that there is a pestilence which actually makes the plague doctor anxious.
As long as everybody believe him he considers them as fellow scientists
8:53 he was so close to death that day 😂
i think the pestilence is the entity from scp 5000-why that is most likely the reason he stays vague about it because when people find out they practically go insane
hunter's french accent and voice of scp 049 is just.... spectacular!

"ah yes, stick"

"He's an extremely well traveled man."
(Me having flashbacks to that obscure old cassette song
*I'm a well traveled bear, and I've been everywhere* )
What I would love to see is someone make an SCP file on 049 where he goes to a medical school and becomes a professor.
I feel like someone or something once convinced the Doctor of the Pestilence and its effects. The Doctor might not actually know what it is, but he does not question it.
Try giving him a person, not infected, to become his apprentice. This way we could learn more about the Pestilence
Hunter's narration is slowly becoming more better than Morgan Freeman for me.
I wonder how he would respond to encountering a person unaffected by his touch.
12:03 my gf’s comeback after we start arguing
if he were real i would love to talk to him about his research he seems nice to talk too.
This SCP probably doesn’t want to hurt people but heal them instead, he is literally a plague doctor
The place doctor is a rolocoster of emotions
I love how Hunter's SCP-049's voice is George Takei from Red Alert 3
My most favorite SCP ever.
Not exactly scientific but it is logical to a degree
Perhaps if when erased the doctor's mind and Dupree taught them the essence of a physician then one might be able to understand better
The humors where actually a medieval scientific belief
@@zahanavez3776 that isn't really science and not even medieval that is ancient Roman medical beliefs the Middle Ages were also called the Dark Ages because the church's downright abolished science
049 will always be my favorite scp, mainly because the video that introduced me to scp's in general was (if i remember correctly) a live action interview with the plague doctor. I don't remember anything past this, but if someone knows what im video im talking about that'd be cool
Is it Tats tops videos?
7:46 Who the hell sleeps standing up?
I dunno, probably a SCP
Also Flamingos
*FLAMINGO SCP!*
Those zombies are nightmare fuel. It just shows us what this SCP is capable of. He could disfigure us into horrible things if he was in the mood.
Man I’ve been being driven insane by this question according to scp lore the plague doctors cloak and mask are part of his body if this is the case is he just nude then!?
Yes.
😳
Naked doctor, sounds like Johnny Sins 💀
SCP 5243 is really hard to cover Wich is the reason there is no video about it i mean it got almost 300 rating Wich is enough to make a video about but it not simple tho
*SCP 5243 the breach that keeps on breaching*
15:58 - 15:20 dr. HAMMS death *shows litteral ham come out of the body*
One of my fav SCPs on this series.
Lol how he play the game follow the the object in stead of the stick he hit him well played doctor 049u sure showed him he is a savage one 😂😂😂🤝

Now jokes aside this SCP can start a zombie apocalypse in a nature wey with No prob he can end the world or not stopped in time
... ... ... If he needs "living tissue", why does he kill everyone he touches BEFORE starting to mess with them? Has he thought to try NOT "sedating" (which is what I think he may think he's doing) his patients before injecting them in his "cure"?
How about in your shorts u do Scp 323 vs scp 035
I aways listen to this man’s voice before I sleep

It would be ironic if it was discovered that he’s the only one immune to it but is also the soul cause of the pestilence and if he ever did the proper research or just cooperated with any medical group, they’d discover he could cure it himself by doing a donation procedure that would likely cause his death.
Then again…. *how do we know he doesn’t?*
*Random Person* : _Pulls on SCP-049 Mask_
*SCP-049* : That's my face buddy.
Judging from what I’ve seen so far both with this and his interactions with the weeping man, I’m guessing “the pestilence” is death by natural decay and his goal is to conquer death for any and all life forms. His goal appears to be a sort of perfect necromancy which revives anyone, soul and all.
I imagine him going with them initially without a fight because he knows he'll likely outlive the foundation.
I believe the curr is resurrection and that's it
If they're dead, they can't get sick
When he does SCP-049’s voice, it is so soothing
Definitely my favourite SCP
I honestly want to speak to the plague doctor. What you could try to do was convince him to share exactly what his 'cure' is, and that the scholars and researchers can help in other ways than test subjects
Has it been ever attempted for the researchers to ask SCP-049 to write his next piece of research findings in English or medieval French? He probably wouldn't cooperate with that but it might've be worth a shot.
my thearoy is the pestilance is that is sadsess beacouse he said "are you feeling well today" and turned him into a MINDLESS "human"
Its greed, the pestilence is greed.
I love this SCP
I kind of wonder if he's able to perceive an extra dimension and it allows him to see something affecting people that we wouldn't notice otherwise, like some extra-dimensional parasite, and that's what he calls the Pestilence.
4:46 why not Dr.Bright
