But yes, we encourage beginners to start from there. A lot of people just underestimate how difficult and time consuming it is to actually even make a decent oneshot.

Making one shot is hard without the basics; story itself, the storyboarding, the panelling, pacing, readability, flow, perspective and backgrounds, charac design, then inking, then effects, screentones, speedlines, bubbles, letterings and many more!

What if two boys complete strangers take revenge on the same man
When I started writing I didn't realize that a good story involves a lot of planning such as identifying your characters, the plot, theme, conflicts, resolution. Its a lot of work.
I took a comic book writing course last year, so it's interesting to see how the manga writing process differs from American comic books. My story idea came from a dream I had, a company sending teams to other worlds to perform ecological surveys. Unsure how to make a one-shot out of that, but it's definitely an idea I want to explore.

I've been creating my manga series story for over a year now (yes I know it's huge), and it's certainly very hard but clearly the most fun part of my journey to create my manga, I think that more video and tutorial in general whether here or elsewhere must be done on the creation of the story of a manga it's too important and too good, thank you for this video in short.
also I have a lot of ideas that are quite tangible for creating one shots, after having finished them I will move on to my "Magnum opus".

I was always intrigued by a post-apocalyptic setting but I never knew where to take it I how to character made up already but never knew where to take them
I thought of a funny concept while spacing out, so ill try to write a pitch for it
"What if a therapist exorcises ghosts by giving them theraphy?"
Sounds boring, but it has the potential to be a funny story. Like in a world where people exorcise ghosts by hunting them down, spirits will live in fear, but then suddenly this guy gets hired to do an exorcism and instead of using paranormal weapons, he just pulls out a chair, sits the ghost down, and make them vent to him
my biggest pitfall is dialogue, not just natural sounding dialogue but placing them speech bubbles in the right spot. I draw before i add my bubbles, partially because Im aware you don't want those bubbles covering the drawing.. what ends up happening though is my pages or panels feel too big or empty and then I still don't have room for my dialogue (or too much room so it looks too empty even with the balloons!)
comic proportions and immersive dialogue are my achilles heel, especially when the art layout is fine but the dialogue layout isn't. not to mention picking the right font and hope that font doesn't kill the flow either aaah
here is my one shot Idea:
Heinrich is a fierce, couragous and simpethetic knight from a kingdom of living armor.
after an attack on the kingdom leads to the death of his wife and child, He takes an oath to dedicate his life to distoying the enemy that took his familly,
but when he is faced with having to kill a small child from the enemy he can't bring himself to do it and get's banished for it.
now with the orphan plant girl my his side he now wanders the world to try and solve the conflict between the living armor and the plant people and reclaim the respect and honor he lost.
For my 5W and 1H
who: Heinrich(Living armor knight) and Pari (The plant girl) along with some of the other knights as seporting characters.
what: its a story about redemption and trying to correct your past mistakes and when being simpethetinc can hurt you.
where: a fantasy world called time scaped and within the kingdom and city of "fortress"
when: a more medieval estetic but without actual humans ever showing up.
why: he makes his choices because of both his simpethetic nature and due to him facing similar loss.
How: (this is where im still struggling a bit)
so what do you think?

I like this one more than the others I've seen
Simply the art style. Rather than something clean cut, like the other 2 examples, we get something more messy and 'carefree'. I don't think that was the artists intentions, but it's reminiscent of chainsaw man's art.
More carefree and full of chicken scratch.
For critique... ITS SO HARD TO FOLLOW, I don't really know what's going on. New powers? A nightmare? Some form or foreshadowing?

How does this sound: So this boy named Eddie eats this fruit sold to him from a fair, and he has a lot of powers but then he loses them from eating this fruit. Then he joins these tournaments and if he wins he gets a power back, and he wins a few but then realizes he doesn’t need every power like he used to and that’s how it ends.

for handwriting, There are fonts for dyslexia, and yea you definitely can just scan ur drawings and then type out the words that way. as someone with some form of dyslexia I have an easier time reading manga/comics when the lettering, fonts and layouts are pretty good. theres a comic artist on youtube that talks about comic lettering and formats. when i find the name I'll bring it here. rn I have too much a headachs ah
bad writing is more like an issue with storytelling, or making believeable dialogue, immersive worlds pacing (pacing in comics is both visual and story though) ect ect.
There's a program out there that also turns your handwrinting into font, not all fonts for comics are the same and can vary by the story's tone! but again if it's illegible then maybe don't use your handwriting as a font.

My story is already done but I am getting problem in adding plot and timeline, the problem is the story revolves around two different time periods.😢 And how to setup the main events.
What you can do is make a straight line made of tape and use different colored post it notes for your characters and describe what's happening in the scene
This is my pitch: a world where there are 7 elemental shards that can be combined with weapons and grant the element power to the wielder.
Interesting pitch but it sounds quite complicated to be contained in just a oneshot.

@@aphlearntodrawmanga Maybe in 2027 if I had a publisher, between these time I've to finish my board exam and a one shot that I've created storyline and storyboard just the finishing is require to complete it. Not just 100 but it maybe take more than 500 because it's a science fiction genre. The genre in anime and manga is slowly dying so I want to make it interesting with my plots and characters.
Edit: 100+ chapter took me 9 months to complete. Because I love my own brainstorming storyline 😊 The story was inspired from a movie named Doraemon: Nobita and steel troops (2011)
@@aphlearntodrawmanga as a person who is largely ready to exceed 100 chapters, I will not question the time I will spend doing it, yes I will not spend half of my life doing it but if I take 5 see a little more than 10 years it doesn't bother me, the main thing is that I'm doing this project that is so close to my heart.

Nuke 101 is a story about The strength of humanity's will, and the fact that despite facing impossible adversities humans will continue to fight for a better world. The main Themes of the story are Willpower, and freedom of will.
Nuke 101 takes place after the events of the “Rapture Bomb/Sugaro kyo”, the “Sugaro kyo” being a bomb that was “Supposedly…” sent to rapture the earth by the Heavens, In an attempt to “Cleanse” humanity for their wickedness.
In the new world covered with radioactive decay, it was almost impossible for anything to survive on the surface.
It would otherwise be somewhat manageable but, Monstrous beings known as raids have ravaged the planet after the bomb's Detonation, making the surface completely uninhabitable.
These raids follow a being known as the “Voice Of Rad”, The Pure Essence of Radioactive Decay and Destruction (it’s actually more complicated than this). These beings are a sort of hive mind all connected, and bent on destroying everything. The Voice of Rad is not exclusive to Raids however, If a Human has Suffered Enough Radioactive Poisoning they will turn into A Raid Psycho, which is essentially a being that has been driven insane by the “Voice of Rad”. Once someone hears the “Voice of Rad” it’s said that they have a 99% chance of turning into a raid and losing their Humanity/Will. The “Voice of Rad” Represents the end to the Human Will (This is one of the biggest Themes of the story right here). The voice of Rad essentially takes Control of the “Voice/Will” that god has given every being.
After years and years, Humans Adapted and Developed A Gene that allowed them to “MANAGE” in the New radioactive environments, This Gene being Called the DJK Gene. This mysterious power that showed up in the humans Gave them a resistance to Radioactive Energies, And also Gave them Powers in the form of an Energy Known as “Jishaku”. The Jishaku is essentially the Electromagnetic field of Human beings, it allows them to do many things like Repel, Attract, And even bind elements to the jishaku, which gives them special abilities. It’s also responsible for A phenomena Known as The Law of Attraction/(I Can’t Explain This yet). With these New found powers A group of Vigilantes in the sanctuary known as the “Gulliver Kingdom” Decided to formulate a group of Warriors that would travel outside of the kingdom and Rehabilitate the Planet This Organization Would be Known As “RADIA”. It would consist of super powered Beings Known as “Radicals” that fight against the Voice of Rad and The Raids. My main character “Musen Denryoku” is a denizen of the Gulliver KIngdom and wants to become a Radical Knight. Musen has A “Mutation” that allows him to Not be affected by Radioactive Energy at all, This would essentially mean that the Voice of Rad could never Take control of Musen because he Cannot be affected by Radiation… or so we thought… At the end of the first chapter, he hears a Voice which he believes to be the “Voice Of Rad”….
As we mentioned in our video, you have to start with a one-sentence pitch.

One tip to make one shot: try not to have multiple characters, the lesser number of characters for 16 pages the easier and better to tell your story.
