Greetings from a Croatian living in Austrian Alps, great channel and👍for the review. As a mountain enthusiast who does all his training only↗️↘️ in a high Alpine environment and uses only a variety of Salomon Slab shoes for the task, everything you said was on point. I totally agree about Contagrip, maybe it's not as much about the rubber compound they are using, but more about the details on the outsole/lugs that they might be missing. After trying a lot of different shoes, some do perhaps have a better grip, the biggest issue for me was always foothold of the shoe on fast, tehnical downhills and that is where Slab just excels. I'ts just for the environment I use my shoes in, Salomon Slab from my experience seems to be far ahead from everybody else in all the aspects that are important to me to feel free and secure Up there...

I agree with you, it's always the question which shoe is best all around, good grip and no foothold won't bring you down safely...

Finally a review which states the truth about the Contragrip, thank you ! Still an alright compound for an allround trail shoe, but nowhere close to Vibram, PWRTRAC, Continental...even if it's Salomon 😉

At this point, Salomons outsoles are the weakest aspect of their trail shoes. Vibram and La Sportivas Frixion blow it out of the water.
I just tested out several pairs of Salomons, Hokas and La Sportivas on the same route and the full length Vibram Megagrip on the Speedgoat was noticeably the grippiest and easiest to generate propulsion with.

@@brandonhawks8473 I completely agree ! The sole unit of the Hoka SG (v3 in my case) is perfect and surprisingly can hold its own when slightly muddy...the Continental compound of the Adidas Terrex line is also perfect and on the same level...

Agreed apart from PWRTRAC. I find it very bad in wet conditions to the point that i only use Peregrines or Xodus in the dry !! Worse grip on par with Nike......

@@ifonly4486 interesting, there might be quite some differences when wet between areas regarding slicky ground (I'm in southern Germany)...my Peregrine 10 performs flawless when wet/muddy, I rotate them in ugly conditions with the La Sportiva Mutant, using the Mutant when things get really nasty and if terrain is still more or less runnable, the Peregrine...and you are on Point with the Nike "grip", very sad because the TK2 and the WH4 are shoes I really enjoyed running (in dry)

@@Thefifaplayeryant I'm in the black mountains in South western France and i mostly get wet roots and rocks. Very much alpine kind of terrain. One can tell PWRTRAC isn't grippy just by the touch. It's very hard and long lasting but scary to me in the wet. And Contagrip isn't just one compound it differs between models like La Sportiva does. But Vibram Megagrip is my favourite so far...Tchuss

My ideal shoe would be something similar to this but with a little more cushioning underneath, a more aggressive and stickier outsole (the ultra 3 outsole just doesn't work for most of the terrain/conditions/races I run in ie mountain trail runs...I find I run past people slipping on their arses in Salomons!), also pull tabs so you can actually get in and out. I don't mind speed laces but not fussed it they were normal laces either (I actually like shoes where I can use a lace lock due to having a narrow heel)

I have these with about 150 miles on them. You are spot on about being on slick ground; a little disappointing for $180 considering most ultras will have slick conditions at some point. However, this does feel like a sock when you put it on. Nice and very accurate review!

Is the Sonic 4 accelerate better than this shoe for road running specifically

Thanks for the review, do you have any experience what it is like in the toe box compared to an Inov-8 G270 (in terms of width) please? I like the idea of a sock like feel, but need lots of width for my toes/forefoot.

I was amazed by the width of this shoe. Much wider than I'm used to with a Salomon. I can wear toe socks in this shoe with plenty of room to move around.

Is there anyone who could compare the V1 and the V2?
