  • SALOMON S/LAB GENESIS full in-depth review. Over the years I have run in quite a few trail shoes from the Salomon performance division, S/Lab. In fact, some of my favourite trail shoes have been Salomon S/Lab models. Like one of my first ever trail shoes, the brilliant original S/Lab Sense Ultra all those years ago! Today we are taking an in-depth look at one of the brand's current S/Lab trail shoes - the GENESIS. Since our first impressions video I've run another 65 miles in the shoes so check out the review to see how they're holding up.
    Thanks for watching, we'll see you in the next video and as always - stay safe and keep on running!

    Really cool how many top Pro Ultra runners were involved in creating the end product. Ryan Sandes helped developed this and used the prototype for Navigate Lesotho which is a mix of mountainous and muddy technical terrain.

    WOW !! very impressive review; much detailed and straight to the point.
    IMHO dull colorways kill the looks of many good trail shoes, but of course aesthetics is much of a personal feeling in this case. As we all know, is function over form ...

    Took a chance on these, two months ago, based on this review. What I found is that they WERE wide enough in my usual size, but they were oddly long (by an inch?) in the toebox, so that I wouldn't trust them running (trip-a-long Cassidy) on anything other than buffed out trails or smooth pathways. They felt great, cushioned, but just awkwardly long. I had to return them as I can't take chances on stubbing, tripping, or falling... great review, tho!

    I've enjoyed my pair for about 400 miles. More room and cush thab typical Salomons. The soft foam breakdown relatively fast and the lugs end up sinking into the foam so the lugs become recessed. But for dry trails they're still okay.

    Thank you very much for the great presentation of the shoes Mr. Loyd.
    Can you compare the size of the S lab genesis shoe with the Salomon S lab ultra 3?
    My size is 9, with s lab ultra 3 I would like some space on my left foot which is stronger than the right
    Unfortunately, they did not have size 9.5 to try on. Thank you for your reply.

    I'd really like to see you do a review of the NNormal Tomir. The race-orientated Kjerag is probably too hardcore for many runners, but the Tomir should be more orientated to the broader running community. It's hard to find information though and your reviews just work really well. I'd love to see it happen.

      I have the tomir, great shoe. If not a bit on the former side for a hoka boy like me. Took some breaking in either the upper for me but it runs so so so so well. Great traction in mud and snow and on rocks.

    Great review Loyd, thanks. Quick question: After a few runs is there any more space created across the top of the shoe towards the bottom lace? I’m trying a pair in my usual Salomon size and its tight but comfortable (length is good and there is good toe space). Wondering if there’ll be ANY give in the shoe...

    • @sam_metal
      @sam_metal Год назад

      Mark - did you get pain right at the base of your toes in the shoe? That's EXACTLY what happened to me.

    • @markgething4175
      @markgething4175 Год назад

      @@sam_metal I didn't have any pain, I was more concerned that it was slightly tight and that over the course of an ultra it may not have enough volume to leave some room for movement/swelling. I felt the pressure across the top of my foot just down from the lace where the shoe flexed...

    • @sam_metal
      @sam_metal Год назад

      @@markgething4175 well that's exactly where I felt it and I'm wondering if it has to do with the glue/fabric of the shoe plus the lacing as you described. I wore them for about 40 miles in a 100km race and then switched to another pair of shoes. a week later when I tried the shoe on for a training run, they caused pain in that area and I haven't been able to wear them since.

  • @wout123

    Tnx for the review. It looks a bit as the ultra glide to me but with durability.
    I think the strange side protection thingies are to compensate for a design flaw. I dont think anybody really thinks you need these extra weights for protection.
    Not interested in these btw because of the cost. It is also almost nowhere available..Maybe running shops notice that people dont want to spend that much money on shoes..
    I love it if you review more affordable (trail running) shoes!
    Also interested in other brands like scarpa, dynafit and la sportiva. Reviews of these are far more valuable because reviews in these are hard to find..

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Год назад

      The pads definitely offer protection, they work really well so I don't think there's any design flaw going on here? 🤔
      They are expensive unfortunately but we are seeing prices going up across the board! I'm going to be testing out some trail shoes from La Sportiva soon but some of their shoes are just as expensive. Dynafit aren't that popular in the UK and in fact their UK website is closed? 🤔
