  • Salomon Genesis first run & first impressions review. Right at the end of last year I tested out the Salomon S/Lab Genesis trail running shoe after hearing a lot of good feedback about the shoes. I was pleasantly surprised by their performance and it was actually a S/Lab shoe that offered me a good level of comfortable cushioning and under foot protection. So when I heard that the Salomon brand were developing a standard, non S/Lab version, I had to test them out. In this video I give you the lowdown on the shoes specs, I also break down the construction in a bit more detail and then I lace them up and take them out for their first run on the stunning trails of Cornwall!
    Thanks for watching, we'll see you in the next video and as always - stay safe and keep on running!

    Interesting that they made this version for the mass, and I am looking forward to see upcoming colorways. A model to consider for next year, let´s see which models it can compete againts.

    good to see how Salomon are changing the line up. I picked up a pair of the slab for £110 so very happy but this looks like a good more everyday option assuming the fit is ok

    Thank you Loyd. As always the keyword is narrow. When you say that a shoe fits like a glove or run a bit tight, well then I know it's not a shoe for my feet.
    It looks similar to one of my favourites, the Nike Wildhorse 8 so I'll just stick to that one😊😊 😊

    Thanks for the review - but I think I'll be 'old school' on this one, as the earlier Salomon S/Lab Genesis are brilliant (except for the cost).

    Ed, Intresting, I might check out the S/Lab version. Btw I'm curious why the Nnormal Tomir's haven't featured on your channel yet. I'm enjoying them a lot.. Could you share what make gillet you were wearing, nice cut, looks like something I might enjoy.

    I have the Genisis S lab. Would have liked the drop to be a bit less on this version. The 4mm drop on the Thundercross is great and I thought they might be moving in the right direction.

    Awesome video Loyd! Love that you enjoyed this shoe too, definitely agree on the awesome design! Seems like I may have got away with the "pinching in the toe box" by going half a size up, 150 miles in now and still going strong 👊🏼 Also, see you at the Arc of Attrition starting line 🙈🔥

    Hi Loyd
    Great video as always - makes me want to go running!
    How do these and the slab version compare to the thundercross in terms of cushioning? In particular on road sections. I find the thundercross lack cushioning in the heel section.
    Thanks!

      @Run4Adventure  7 месяцев назад

      Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching. I’d say the Thundercross is actually more cushioned than the Genesis and the S/Lab Genesis 👍
      I find the Thundercross cushioning pretty good on the road but I do tend to run on a forefoot/midfoot strike. Hope this helps 🙂

    Hey Loyd, awesome vid as per. A couple months on I don't suppose you have an opinion on these for something like UTS? Looks like my perfect shoe but there's many tales of Salomon rubber being terrible on wet rock so it'd be good to know of its performance.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  4 месяца назад

      Hi Alex
      The Salomon rubber has definitely improved over the years when it comes to wet rock. However, it’s still not as good as Vibram megagrip on wet rocky trails. It really comes down to the weather on UTS, if it’s dry you wouldn’t have any issues but I’d always use a Vibram megagrip outsole for races like that just in case 👍
      Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏

      @@Run4Adventure Great insight, thanks for the reply. It hurts as I'm a bit of a Salomon fan but I'll likely pull the trigger on the Agility Peak 5, which I know you rate highly.

    Thanks Loyd! I am really hesitant between the Agility Peak 5, Mafate 4 and the Slab genesis for my 100k in May. Durability is a major concern to me as well as heal counter. Now I have to try this shoe too 😂

      @@aldypratama9395 i saw several athletes like Pelletier change to the Slab genesis mid ultramarathon because they are roomier and durable especially on mountain runs. The Mafate were also used by many in the last UTMB. I however don’t want a shoe that the upper will die after 100km…

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  7 месяцев назад

      The Vibram megagrip rubber is always going to out perform Salomons Contagrip rubber, especially in wet conditions. As far as durability goes, I’m 320 miles into my Merrell Agility peak 5 and the upper is still looking great. The midsole is nicely bedded in and the outsole is holding up well 👍🙂

      Why? For wider feet that would be nice. But he said this Shoe is more narrow than the s lab.
      Also there are a lot of runners how don't need a rockplate with that stack hight. You don't need to buy it. But for some of us maybe its an option.

    Solomon shoes are made hilariously narrow. So narrow that a 5 year old child’s foot won’t go in. Anyone who can wear Salomon shoes has pencil feet
