    Been looking forward to this one! My current trailshoe of the year as a Jack of all trades daily. It’s interesting how much regions and conditions can sway opinions of a shoe though. Here in NH , I feel it may be alittle too soft/high stack for white mountain races , so for race days here I’m looking at the VJ Maxx 2 or Kjerag for more grip and response.

    Could never wear a salomon shoe due to having wide feet but watching y'alls reviews is always a treat. • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  2 месяца назад

      I have always been super fascinated with the footwear trends of Japan. Always been much more minimal. I remember a decade ago when I was still racing track, the trainers over there were US racing flats and there were almost no American sized trainers over there

      @@ConversationalPace Yea, I noticed most of the shoes runners were wearing were either very low stack (one store said their most popular shoe only had an 18mm/24mm stack height) or heigher stack shoes but the foam was very firm like the Asics S4. I bought a pair of Asics S4s there and have done a few runs in them. They are fast but definitely different than the most popular shoes here.

      Salomon speedcross 6 and speedcross assault are available in wide. I have several variants of the XA models in standard and wide. I definitely prefer the wide. I prefer wide in the X-Ultra line up as well. I wear a 11.5 wide in Salomon’s, just tried a 12.5 regular width in the speedcross 6, I probably could have got away with just a 12 after a little break in on the upper to stretch a fuzz. My biggest complaint/the reason I boxed them up before even putting the second shoe on, was the tongue was much shorter. I struggled getting my foot in with the tongue pushing down-almost turning/twisting. I let all the slack out for plenty of room to insert foot and it was a disaster. Maybe after a few times wearing them out would have been easier but it was such a hassle, I didn’t even want to wrestle with them a few times till they broke in. Salomon’s warranty is solid and replacement was a breeze and very speedy!! I’ve tried many brands and styles, I always come back to my trusty Salomon’s. The speed laces got me hooked like a fat boy and came.

    Yeah, I’ve been saying the same thing about with Solomon for a long time when they came out with the ultra glide. I really thought they were going to discontinue the ride back then cause there’s not that much of a difference for drive ride I think it lasted longer, and I had the S lab polar Trail soft ground, and it was just so narrow from my feet that it was like the narrow slab I’ve been in that After 20 miles my feet were aching. I did a 50 K in it and it’s kind of wrote in a letter of my suggestions just a little bit wider and the new one came out and they had a Solomon. They are running store and I want to put it on it’s even tighter, so maybe I’ll look at soccer exodus ultra and more comfortable more fun but I might look at this as long as my toes have some ability

    I think Salomon should up their game with outsole rubber. They just aren't on the same level with Vibram, Continental, VJ, Inov-8 and asics.
    My ideal Salomon shoe would have narrow sole especially at the heel, room for straight big toe but otherwise narrow last, no extra room for bunions, ~5mm drop with slight rocker(not as extreme at heel & midfoot as slab pulsar), 20/25mm stack, one piece matryx upper with proper water drainage, no removable insole, anti-debris collar, quick laces with 5 pairs of eyelets, no rigid heel counter, pull tabs at the heel and lace pocket, velvety anti slip materials inside, directional 5mm+ lugs, and proper rubber. S/lab pulsar 2 upper is ideal around the heel!

      Many Salomon's I've worn have a pretty low volume toe box. This one even a bit more so than others I've worn. I imagine going to a thinner insole would free up some space because the one that comes with the shoe is on the thicker side. With that being said, the VJ Maxx 2 is a fantastic choice!

      @@ConversationalPace VJ maxx 2! A shoe to be considered for a review. I just ordered a pair (actually 2 pairs to get the sizing right 😃)

      We've got the Vj maxx 2 in studio and is in line for review! I was sent a 10 for that, which feels correct and 10 is my regular size. I think this is the first VJ shoe that didn't have super wonky sizing

    Loving the TM2 / Caldera 7, Liking the Speedland GS, hating the cascadia, hating the lack of grip of the Saucony Edge.. will I like this?
    My goal is to keep my rotation interesting..

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  2 месяца назад

      Hmm if you are loving the TM2 and Caldera, idk if you'll love this one. It feels like a more refined Cascadia to me in that it's firmer and has solid protection, but is a little smoother to run in than the Cascadia and I like the upper more. With that being said, I do feel like this shoe overlaps with the Cascadia more than any other shoe that you listed.

      @@ConversationalPace Ow boy.. I saw 93% on runrepeat, and FInn's praise thought it couldn't hurt at 130 something..
      I'm mostly thinking of them as hiking shoes, my plus trailrunning shoes are a bit on the soft side at slow pace.
      Cascadia is about the most awful trailrunning shoe I ever have worn..
      Speedgoat is at the bottom as well,c completely dead like listening to music when you ears haven't adjusted to elevation change..

      It sounds like the shoes that agree with you are the higher stack shoes that have a little more responsive feeling midsole instead of pure mush. A shoe that fits that build is the North Face Altamesa 500

    £650 million of shoe sells for Salomon last year. They appear to be doing rather well with their confusing range.

      it a market strategy - often used by Chinese companies rebranding the very same product with different names and look/color and sell them along with the original one - --> when you have 15 pairs of shoes on a store shelf, if 10 pairs are yours while only 5 are from the competitors, you increment your chances to be purchased ^^!

    How’s the toe box for someone who has really wide toes?

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  9 дней назад +1

      Not great, in all honesty. It's a very medium sized toe box in terms of width, but the overall volume is on the lower side which can make it feel even more scrunched

      @@barrick4807from first hand experience, I found the adidas terrex speed and speed ultra to have an accommodating / semi foot shaped toe box if you get the sizing right. Topo mtn racer 3 or ultraventure 3 aren’t the best looking but may be other options to consider.
