Well F* me, I didnt know this was a thing and sure enough I search YT and it is!
My new Nidecker board had an edge so sharp you could shave with it. I took it to the resort tech and after watching this video a d asked him to de-tune it!
The board was completely unrideable by me, a shit rider who likes to go fast, I was cutting every edge face or ass first into the ice. Conditions were shit btw.
After the file job the board was a completely different animal! I was shredding and carving like a gd pro😂, toes on the ice😂.
What a difference! First time this happened to me with a board.

Can we get "can Kevin carve it" with those Snowfeet things? They look like bindings and he likes the bindings so it's a twofer.

Hi Avran, I just got my fiancé a Gnu Velvet that has the C2e profile. Will it be a good idea to de-tune the 4 outer contact points (tip and tail)? Or do you feel that it is unnecessary? She ride groomed runs in the morning and the park after lunch. We usually ride in mammoth and big bear. Thanks in advance.

I'd leave it and see if she feels its hooky.

The solution is to just buy 1 ALLMTN and 1 freestyle board

Will you lose a lot of grip doing this?

If you're overly aggressive with the file and round the edge completely yes. If you're not sitting there shaving the edge off then no.

So this being a beginner tip, why do you wanna detune the edges?

I detune for rails. Fresh edges are really catchy or slick on rails

i’m pretty sure detuning is only needed if you’re riding park...
but new board edges are pretty sharp...
one time i just took the brand new board and drug the edges against a large rock a few times..
(being careful not to damage the side wall of course)

It makes the contact points less hooky when you’re learning or if you want to do butters, yes rails too

sbecktacular Not at all. De tuning will improve swing weight & lets the board track nice & straight when you’re flat on your board.
