- Comparison about gameplay value, not realism. Physics, gunfight, AI, melee combat, controls, interiors, multiplayer freedom. While GTA V has some obvious advantages from being a 2013 game, a lot of technical features and sandbox elements from GTA IV (2008) were missing such as crouch ability, holding onto ledges, picking up objects and much more. Those changes reduced all the unpredictable fun and made it an experience with less replay value.
No mods were used, this is the original version of both games on PC. Cheats were used at some point for demonstration purpose but every comparisons are fair to each other.

Ok so red dead is a mixture of 3 games: gta v, gta iv, and red dead redemption, and here is what they mixed

IV still manages to surprise me. I never knew that if you go on a date, then go on another date after changing clothes, the girl will remark on what you changed. If you wore glasses the first time and then removed them, they usually say they liked the glasses on you and miss them. It’s crazy how much detail is in the game to give life to the city.

I love the details they added in GTA4 and how good the story was. However, a fun game for me will always be better than a detailed but slightly tedious game. No matter who you are, you have to admit that 5 is so much more fun to play.
@@omsaxena116 It's fun for "baby's first FPS & Sandbox" but anybody will quickly grow bored and look for better, more substantial games. If you get filtered by it's age then you probably shouldn't be playing games in the first place since all the good ones were made before 2012.

It's really frustrating that games nowadays opt for graphical fidelity rather than interactivity and actual detail, though GTA 4 doesn't look as good as 5 it still feels far more alive. With the power of modern consoles, imagine how many little details a city could really have.

The reason 4 is better is because Rockstar had no interest in including multiplayer and microtransactions. More focus on core game development.

I played GTA 4 at release. And for me it was like Red Dead Redemption 2 is for young gamers nowadays. Everything was perfect, the city, the people, everything was so alive and had its own life. It was overwhelming playing it 15 years ago, still is. The crazy thing is this game doesn’t even need a remake or remaster. Just to be available for everybody.

They removed crouch in favor of the cover system and the "less noise" system. I still miss crouch though.

I love how in GTA IV you also have GPS in vehicles which tells you when to take turn, to take a U-Turn, When you arrived at the destination but in GTA V they ditched that system fully !

One detail about GTA4 which I've noticed only a week ago is that everyone is constantly honking at you if you drive the wrong lane/against traffic/during red light.
They just honk at you all the time. If you try to blend in with normal traffic and drive like normal they will honk. But that might be pretty realistic now that I think.

This is such an eye-opening realisation about why I spent hundreds of hours playing GTA4 while with GTA5 I only finished it once on PS3 and never bothered finishing it again despite making another attempt later on PC. I didn't notice all those little things... BUT MY BRAIN DID.

There are two things in the video that are more realistic in GTA V: Franklin dying when he jumps from the helicopter into the water and the molotov cocktail not exploding.
Water has a lot of superficial tension so falling into it from high distances is actually like falling onto concrete. Molotov cocktails don't explode, they spread a flammable substance and light it on fire.

I think the biggest disappointment for me was the lack of interiors in GTA 5. GTA 4 had so many interiors that made you feel like the city is alive and not just a backdrop

Thing I hate the most about V is that you punch or shoot someone once they die, it’s so boring and unsatisfying. On IV you can shoot someone a few times in non fatal areas and they will be injured and trying to get away whilst nursing their injury. Also the cops in V are just annoying and everywhere, it’s like you can’t even punch someone in the desert without getting a wanted level.

Man, i just love how the last minute or so is just unapologetically GUSHING about all the cool stuff that was in GTAIV. No comparison to 5 is needed, the footage of 4 just speaks for itself. In combination with that amazing main theme song, it makes for a powerful reminder of why GTAIV is such a great game even to this day

You missed a comparison with the rain. In IV when it rains peds take out umbrellas or hold newspapers over their heads. The police also change from their regular uniforms to wearing raincoats and rainbags for their hats.

Even now, 14 years later from its original release, GTA 4 continues to be superior, in my opinion. I'm currently replaying it again after a few years and my mind was blown. So many things that I didn't understand when I played it as a kid just made sense now. All of its commentary on American society through its dialogue (either while on missions or even just when hanging out with friends/dates) is spot on, even today. I thought I was wearing rose-tinted glasses when I booted the game up again after so long, but I was wrong. GTA4 turned out to be even BETTER than I remembered it, and now that I understand its themes and undertones and commentaries. God, I hope the next installment goes back to being this good. (and no more cartoony flying rocket bike bs anymore please!!)
P.S. the radio is still funnier in GTA4 than it is in GTA5 lmao

I was playing at Michael. I saw a man on stairs, smoking a cigarette. I walked behind him. Behind us, there were buildings. Nobody could see us from back there. In front of us was a road. Only a small part of the road could be see because of some more buildings in the way. Cars were occasionally driving by. When no cars were visible, I pulled out a suppressed pistol. I used the power that Michael has.( Time slows down on foot) I aimed the suppressed pistol at the back of the man's head and shot him. He died instantly. His corpse didn't even hit the ground and I had 1 star from killing him.
Animals count as npcs, so they call the cops. 😂

I remember when I had the Lost and Damned dlc when I was a kid just running around being retarded. I accidentally bumped into somebody and they got mad so I started swinging fists at them. Just before the npc was about to die, they ran away. So I pulled out my pistol to finish them off. As soon as I fired, a woman npc got caught in the crossfire and died instantly Because it was a headshot. I was confused, shocked, and surprised that even happened. I later caught up to the npc that ran away from me and I finished them off but still...... that was probably the only time I felt bad about killing an npc unintentionally.

When I played GTA 5 for the first time I was impressed by the graphics, but right off the bat I noticed so many things were left out. Especially the driving.
Ghost Hawk Driving? Driving is great in GTA V compared to IV. In IV it felt like gliding a boat down a sleet covered street.
One of the things that I really liked about GTA 4 which they didn’t have in GTA 5 was how you could save cheats on your phone, which meant that you didn’t have to spend time re entering them.
If you were on a 6 star police chase and taking damage then you could just top up your health easily or spawn a new car.

Yeah it was all good, except if oyu took damage while on your phone, your character would put the phone away in IV.
Can't wait for gta 6 to come out so you can do a comparison video between 4 and 6 . I have a feeling rockstar is going to make it pretty similar to 5 . Those leaked videos that came out a few months ago looked pretty much like gta 5 , the look and feel of it anyways. I'd be way more hyped for it if it had the look and feel of gta4 .

GTA 4 also had a better storyline in my opinion. GTA 5 had an awesome story, but I prefer GTA 4 because it was deeper and more intense. Also, Niko Bellic is a better character than ANY GTA 5 Character. I love characters like Michael and Trevor. But Niko Bellic is ten times better.

After playing the game this year, i was impressed by the little bits of details that were in gta 4, like how using your siren when in an ambulance or police vehicle, ped cars would give space and u wouldnt need to pay any money to cross the bridge.

GTA IV is a masterpiece, and I'm only just playing this game for the first time, 15 years later after launch. For what it lacks in modern fidelity, it makes up for in immersion, stylistic choice, physics, and story. Many modern games are drab, sterile, plastic. This game is raw, real, gritty, full of humor, and good story telling.
I'm still amazed how they did the scene lighting considering what technology was available to R* at the time. Sure, it's not as realistic, but they nailed the "feeling" I remember often driving into and around NYC. The grit, grungy, raw and over commercialized environment.
I could never understand the stupidity, whenever you stand next to any random pedestrian. They'll either run away or start beating you up? I mean WTF? Why GTA 5?

The atmosphere is unmatched, GTA IV made me feel like I was a 2-bit gangster who was going 3-bit and at the time when I was 7 years old this game was all I needed. Going online, earning money to increase Player level for new clothes was all I cared about. Free Mode was actually fun, driving around the city when it was Night was actually beautiful. All those hours sitting in the online lobbies listening to the GTA IV theme. Made me feel like I was walking thru a high class condominium while plotting on how I’m going to take over Liberty City.

So Rockstar, if you're worried about GTA 6 not selling well, and we can be damn sure you are, the solution to this is to combine GTA 5's graphics and map size to GTA 4's seemingly infinite amount of small details. That'll 100% sell well, and it will give the game replay value similar to GTA 4
GTA 6 is just gonna milk the online component even harder with more micro transactions. With many old rockstar devs having left since GTA IV, I have little faith in their ability to deliver a game of IV's standard

I love to smoke weed, but the first time I play through a game I always prefer to be sober - for exactly the reason you mentioned. I'll get stoned and play a game late at night and I can follow along just fine. But then I go to sleep and wake up sober, and all the little details from the night before are a blur. I can't clearly remember story/mission details. It's just a blur. If I'm stoned and in a gaming mood, I only play games that I've already finished before.

It was the optimization of the game that was bad, stutters, drops, texture loading, not hardware specifically, nor the more accurate physics.
The way NPCs in GTA 4 look at their injuries and looking at you approaching them makes killing them a little uncomfortable sometimes, whereas GTA 5 everyone is just a silly ragdoll cartoon character

If it was GTA 5 especially PS3 you can instantly notice the bad physics, repetitive countryside and empty on PS3, forgettable characters(who was stretch again?) the city being too small, missions being too scripted, etc. GTA 4 not having some SA features doesn't make it bad and 5 having them doesn't make it better

Some gta 6 gameplay footage got leaked today. And I can say that even though it looks completely unfinished, it does look like it can be the next big thing to become Rockstar’s biggest game creation ever since RDR2. GTA IV had such better interactions with the environment. My favourite past time in GTA IV was just mayhem. I'd do it for hours.
Going to a bridge, causing a traffic jam, and just exploding everything.
Parking my car outside a building, squeezing my way in and just enilating everyone in there, all while the police couldn't get through the door with my car in the way.
Pushing people down the stairs or off of any heights (be bridges, buildings, etc) and just watching them die.
The classic geting a star, climbing a water tower or something, and just waiting at the top before stepping down a rung to make them fall off. Listening to the cops scream as they were forced off.
There were so many fun things to do. Even without murder or sim-like torture. The bowling, darts, drinking, golf, clubbing, dancing, movies, comedy shows, boxing, and so much more. The world felt so alive and you were a part of it.
I genuinely miss GTA IV and I don't think any GTA game can ever compare. It holds such a special place in my heart. The story, the dlc, the physics, the npcs, honestly the list could go on. I love this game to pieces.

@Madd Springtrap It's a common thing to have people randomly stop within your immediate vicinity, and it's very realistic that most people won't physically respond unless prompted. The majority of folk don't want trouble; and that's exactly what you'll get if you start pushing and punching at people who are doing nothing but simply standing a bit close to you within a pubic space. GTAV NPCs are unrealistically irritable and hostile.

Yeah, I also "missed" GTA IV and decided to play it for the nostalgia a few days ago. The first thing I noticed was how much the graphics hurt my eyes and I wasn't tempted to do any missions again either. Go there -- kill this guy. Go there -- kill that guy. Go over there -- kill a couple more guys. Kill, kill, kill. Now drive a car somewhere. BORING. Now you've fcked up on a mission; you have to start from scratch. At least GTA V had a lot more variety in its missions, though tbh I didn't really love the story. All I know is I had way more fun exploring the map in GTA V than I did doing practically anything on GTA IV.

There was also one other thing that I really appreciated in GTA IV. After beating up civilians, they usually weren't dead unless you continued to beat them while they were laying around groaning, or if you shot or blew them up before hand. Sometimes the ambulance would pull up after a fight and the medics would try to resuscitate the citizens. If you didn't keep beating them up the doctors would resuscitate them and lead them to the back of the ambulance. If you killed them the medics would make a sad remark, and then go on about their day.
Yeah this is kinda in rdr2 if you knock someone out they are still alive they just wake up and walk away later

Many of these details were removed because they were a direct cause of poor graphics and optimization. With GTA 6, we hope to accomplish both of these things.
There are at least 100+ interiors in the GTA VI leak, however I hope Rockstar would actually improve the physics.

It is easy but you need to count stats in V too. When you start and your Strenght is at minimum people actually take few hits before they go down, you knock them out 1 hit when your Strength is fully up. Its nowhere near IV but its still something and I like how stats impact your character.
Its like this with more things in V, some people complain about how in V you can run endlessly without loosing breath. You can, if your Stamina is maxed out, but when you start the game your character actually slows down after some time running etc.
