Good video, great skill and underrated build. A couple points to add: * Two handed weapons are really good for Vengeance, because you don't really have enough skills to spare for Holy Shield anyway if you're maxing out Vengeance's synergies and the higher base damage on a two-handed weapon will mean greater Vengeance elemental damage, for all the reasons why you state weapon choice is important. *Because of the first point, mana and life steal will work better than they would on one handed weapons, again because of the higher base physical damage. Triumphant weapons (+ mana recovery per kill) are also good because you will one shot most enemies. This can result in a very high risk, high reward sort of gameplay. This is where the crowd control of a cold merc can be really helpful.
Very detailed explanation of what does and dose not work with vengeance. Mostly ever used this skill for Physical Immunes but see I was using a less then ideal weapon as of now..
@ 15:00 I have a Act 3 merc as well. Mainly to boost the poor attack rating of Zeal with his enchant skill. I gave him dual dragon with Flame and Hand of Justice to match his fire skills. Without synergies the holy fire is not super strong but it compliments my double dream + Holy Freeze (or Conviction) auras.
Doing an avenger Paladin. Conviction/Vengeance is my main jam. Stil low level, and doing single player, but I am very impressed. Been able, in normal difficulty, to clear at players 8 without much of a problem. Now that they upped the Act 1 Mercs, I am using a freesing arrow Rogue. It's been great. Eventually, looking to put a Faith runeword on her to get the Fanaticism aura. Will help with attack rating and attack speed. Also, if they are cold immune, she will at least do her physical damage. If they are immune to cold and physical, I am on my own, but....should be doable. And yes, the mana cost on Vengeance is the biggest issue with it. Found a mana steal ring to help, but that is the biggest weakness of the build so far. If I can, I might add Dreams to see how that works. Give some crowd control. Dream/Dragon might also be interesting. Hydras with Conviction. Seems ok. Thanks for breaking it down for me so i know what to look for! Appreciated!

On paladin dropping the shield is painful. But breath of the dying in a ethereal two hander seems to be the best. Hits like a Mac truck but also you are very weak. I played around with this during season 0 on my vengeance paladin. I had a botd warpike
Ethereal BOTD Archon Staff is amazing for vengeance paladins. The extremely high minimum damage allows you to guarantee a one hit kill on most things, useful since you can only hit one target at a time. Sounds funny though. Max damage on zerker is 71 vs the 83 minimum on archon, so that max damage you have is basically what your minimum damage would be. Though the str requirement is a bit high!

Hello! I have watched your video right now and I have a question: If there are two paladins in a group, and both activate conviction aura, would that sum up against a monster with high conviction aura?
No, the game only takes the highest level conviction aura within radius. If you have a lvl 15 conviction aura, and your friend has a lvl 20 conviction aura, only the lvl 20 aura will be applied to monsters. To add onto that, conviction auras "battle" opposing conviction auras, so if a unique enemy is aura enchanted with conviction, but your conviction is a higher level, they're aura will not apply to you, but yours will apply to the monster. @@BionicleJackson unfortunately Dream is generally a poor choice for any character that is not a Paladin or a Sorceress. Without Synergies, or Lightning mastery the Holy shock aura is extremely low damage. It's only with the addition of the synergies, or Lightning mastery that Dreams become usable at all. They also have to be worn in a pair Shield and Helmet to get the whole worthwhile effect.
Back in 2007 I was working on a Vengeance Conviction Pally running Full Immortal Kings, Crown of Ages, Highlords, BKWB, Raven Frost. Anni & Torch. My question is what that kinda setup work is D2R
Great video, Thank you for explaining it. I always loved vengeance builds but didn't quite understand how the damage was calculated. Now would something like dual dream + Ebotdz + Fort be more effective? Skills would be like Max vengeance Max resist lightning Max salvation Get a level 25 conviction all the one point wonders And rest would be to Mix resist fire/cold
Conviction caps at lvl 25 anyway so it's pretty easy to max out with plus to skills. Vengeance gives it's highest bonus from hard points directly into the skill. Most important thing about vengeance is a very strong weapon like BoTD to take advantage of the way the ability works
hello genger. i have just started a paladin character and i noticed that i can only use one aura at one time. am i looking at this wrong or i mean is there a way to use more then one aura at one time? thanks. Raven
you can only yourself have 1 aura active at any given time. there are items that grant auras though and that is where you may be confused. A paladin wearing an item that grants and aura, and using an aura himself would have 2 auras, ect. Most auras of the same type do not stack with a few exceptions like prayer, and even then only when they are the same level.
You could theoretically use fanaticism instead, and put infinity on your merc I guess. But you'd probably be better off with the opposite. Faith bow on merc and conviction on the paladin
I have said as much, the ability to kill anything regardless of immunities is an amazing thing. Also conviction which is the standard aura to run with vengeance is such a fun group ability
I got 1 point in vengeance on my zealadin just to deal with physical immune monsters. It's very slow, but much faster than trying to whittle them down with the small amount of +elemental damage I have with zeal and an act 5 frenzy merc.
Vengeance is highly based on the Damage of the weapon, you can increase it's damage easily by using a higher damage weapon like Breath Of The Dying in an Eth Zerker Axe. Grief's Damage effect does nothing for Vengeance at all unfortunately so don't use Vengeance with a Grief weapon.
I used to love this build but I built differently. I went for a lightning/ fire absorb build, maxing out the 3 max resistance as synergy, using lightsaber, t-gods and wisp projector for lightning. Dwarf star and hotspots for fire. And with dragon/dream helm shield combination benefiting for Max resistance it just worked for me. I could go afk against gloams in worldstone keep and just be fine.
I found out this skill is good for like holyfiredin with Hand of Justice, Dragons and Flickering Flame. This is much better solution than zeal, and i dont need to like swap weapon for grief to have better physical damage on fire immunes, i just go and murderer anything :D
Cool...but what does it show wirhout demon limb? That like showcasing a melee build but then saying "Oh, Im enchanted with battle orders but is probably like X amount less".
Demon limb enchant adds like 200 fire damage, and some attack rating. The conviction paladin doesn't even need the attack rating because conviction reduces all monster defense by 97%
i'm a hammerdin, level 74 right now. Should I invest the points to get into at least one point of vengeance? My melee attack is still basic. I don't have sacrifice, zeal, or anything. Just hammers, blessed aim, some in vigor, and concentration.
@@GGMentor Thanks man. I appreciate you taking the time to answer me so quick. It just feels weak that I only have "normal attack" still. I was looking for a way to boost my atk rating, but I finally found angelic wings and halo x2 so i'm using that. I DO have a Baranars star which does 1 - 200 of lightning, ice, and fire dmg. So not sure if that changes things at all.
Wich one is a best suport? vengance pally with a double heal merc (meditation/prayer) or necro with lower res, infinity on merc and something on iron golem maybe im all wrong
I prefer the act 3 Merc on the vengeance paladin it just makes the most sense. You are running max conviction, something that the act 3 Merc can take advantage of fully. You could also put a plauge sword on him for LR procs
It adds, but doesn't affect the damage output. So like after all the vengeance calculations happen and it decides how much damage is done it just gets added on at the end as a flat number. It's far better to have a high damage weapon for vengeance than an elemental one. While baranaras star will work Because it's an amazing weapon. It's definitely not the best weapon for a vengeance paladin
Building a weird vengeance pally. Pheonix sword and shield, flickering flame helm and COH holy fire maxed with a bunch of plus to skills charms giving me near 40 holy fire and fire sunder Maxed fire res than 1 point in each other and an act 2 merc with infinity tbh nightmare I just walk other than bosses
my griswold avenger is probably my toughest character. my merc is a rogue with ICE runeword. inner sight helps with AR, the biggest weakness of this build.
Is it just me or does this just FAIL compared to Zeal + Conviction (for some reason Fanatacism just seems not worth it...) I'm at around 92 on my main and god... very big GRIND :( Sadly you NEED genuinely hyper rare/hyper endgame gear sadly :(
If you don't setup Vengeance properly it will always fail you. If you do setup Vengeance properly it literally one shots just about everything in the game. My guess is you didn't setup Vengeance properly. And no you don't need genuinely hyper rare gear. You just need specific stats over others. For Vengeance RAW Weapon damage is the most important thing. So elite based, ethereal items, indestructible or rep durability items. Cheap runewords like Oath in an eth base can carry a vengeance paladin early on.
An act 2 holy freeze merc with an insight, or an Ice Rouge merc with an insight could still provide the cold CC and help your mana issues with the build.
@@sebastian-FX357Z1 yes and no, vengeance depends on physical damage to get it's elemental output. Not elemental damage. So something like baranaras star is less useful than something like breath of the dying. Any elemental damage added not from vengeance, is coincidental and not tied into the skill itself. It does add to the attack, and when running conviction will get boosted by conviction. However that's not vengeance that's just plain old elemental damage
@@kristopherleslie8343 I wouldn't level him as a first character, but I have done it on live stream and it's fine. Having conviction aura makes you extremely useful to the group even if you can't kill anything. Most melee weapons go to you anyway and the gear issues disappear relatively quick. Main issue is vengeance paladin solo self found. I usually imbue a war scepter in normal hope for a good weapon drop and if nothing imbue a divine scepter in nightmare.
I have tested this character using "Fanaticism" and a "Death" Decapitator (up to 18k damage), with a mercenary with Holy Freeze and a "Delirium" helmet and Reaper`s Toll Tresher. Is an unstoppable killing machine.
I am so confused, fanaticism does not help vengeance, except to speed it up. Death decapitator is mostly deadly strike which again also doesn't effect vengeance. Seems to me like you just built a physical melee character with extra steps. I mean the vengeance skill will add some elemental damage. But overall everything you have chosen is leaning into the physical side of the skill which is mediocre at best. For instance Conviction, decreases all monsters resistance by 150% which is a net increase in damage of 150% essentially. So if vengeance does 1/4th physical and 3/4th elemental you end up with 3/4th + 150% which is a crazy damage increase. By leaning only into the physical damage you are only really increasing the 1/4th portion of vengeance. And the 3/4ths fire, ice, lightning are going generally unmodified
@Ginger Gaming Mentor You are totally right mate. It's just the way I like to play it. I'm not a pro at all, I just wanted to try something weird. I'm not even using a shield and focusing all the character's power on the physical like you said. But being the physical damage so high and hitting so fast, in addition to the elemental damage, I think it's not bad. So far it works beautifully. I love your channel bro. Thanks for answering me.😉👍👍
Vengeance is a rather complicated skill, if you can't sit through this video you shouldn't use vengeance. You're just gonna make a fool of yourself with that skill.
Cool build but I wish ppl would stop wasting time with this builds…. Nobody will play them because you still gotta kill 1 at a time and other builds can run laps around you for half the effort. Nobody will do anything without teleport and nobody will kill one at a time. If you do then good for you. Great build… just a waste of time.
Hardly a waste of time, fully decked out they literally kill everything in the game with ease, they are amazing group characters with conviction, and the 1 at a time can be overcome with equipment. Vengeance paladin was one of the most enjoyable builds I have run to date.

@@Jugernaut305 It sounds honestly like you only care about efficiency, which is a poor way to play the game. Teleport is not required, not every build needs to be a hammerdin or a sorc.
Skills would be like
Max vengeance
Max resist lightning
Max salvation
Get a level 25 conviction
all the one point wonders
And rest would be to Mix resist fire/cold
Dreams with vengeance can be powerful, and the synergies line up so it's not much of an investment. Just a slightly different way you spend them.
Which is better? A higher conviction skill or higher vengeance skill?
Conviction caps at lvl 25 anyway so it's pretty easy to max out with plus to skills.
Vengeance gives it's highest bonus from hard points directly into the skill.
Most important thing about vengeance is a very strong weapon like BoTD to take advantage of the way the ability works
I love the vengeance, i dont even use the synergys, I'm koing monsters in one to two hits in chaos. You really don't need the synergys geared right.
hello genger. i have just started a paladin character and i noticed that i can only use one aura at one time. am i looking at this wrong or i mean is there a way to use more then one aura at one time? thanks. Raven
you can only yourself have 1 aura active at any given time. there are items that grant auras though and that is where you may be confused.
A paladin wearing an item that grants and aura, and using an aura himself would have 2 auras, ect.
Most auras of the same type do not stack with a few exceptions like prayer, and even then only when they are the same level.
I take it that infinity is not a good rune word for a vengence paladin.
You could theoretically use fanaticism instead, and put infinity on your merc I guess.
But you'd probably be better off with the opposite.
Faith bow on merc and conviction on the paladin
@@GGMentortried it, really brilliant advice!
Really good video
Glad you liked it!
Do you think Vengeance is one of your favorite abilities? I Notice you seem to have a soft spot for it :D
I have said as much, the ability to kill anything regardless of immunities is an amazing thing.
Also conviction which is the standard aura to run with vengeance is such a fun group ability
@@GGMentor I've always loved pally but never tried this build. Gotta get on it!
Wouldn't act 3 Enchant merc be good with last-wish and maybe bramble?
Might does not do anything for vengeance really
I got 1 point in vengeance on my zealadin just to deal with physical immune monsters. It's very slow, but much faster than trying to whittle them down with the small amount of +elemental damage I have with zeal and an act 5 frenzy merc.
Vengeance is highly based on the Damage of the weapon, you can increase it's damage easily by using a higher damage weapon like Breath Of The Dying in an Eth Zerker Axe.
Grief's Damage effect does nothing for Vengeance at all unfortunately so don't use Vengeance with a Grief weapon.
how does on-weapon % damage to demons/undead interact with veng?
It doesn't, it basically does nothing as it only effects the physical damage portion
It would be interesting to see how would it do with sunder charms now
I used to love this build but I built differently.
Yes Veng Pallys tend to be very tanky in general, as they have tons of Resistances
Vengeance is Rather useless unless you invest into it heavily, and it requires a very powerful weapon.
So probably not
@@GGMentor Thanks man.
Have u tryed this with a infinty war pike and try to max fant
Lol no, but could be funny
Can I request the next video be on Fire Claws? Planning on making a Fire Claws werebear using an Earth Shifter soon. :)
Does elemental dam on weapon stack with vengeance? Wea. like baranar star
So is +fire/lite/cold dmg scs pointless for this build?
Yes and no, so it doesn't help the vengeance directly but since you are running conviction it will still have a positive effect.
Building a weird vengeance pally. Pheonix sword and shield, flickering flame helm and COH holy fire maxed with a bunch of plus to skills charms giving me near 40 holy fire and fire sunder
Maxed fire res than 1 point in each other and an act 2 merc with infinity tbh nightmare I just walk other than bosses
Darn. I was hoping Djinn Slayer's (250-500 fire) and Dragonscale's (211-371 fire) would work with Vengeance and Resist Fire.
Good thinking but that's just not how vengeance works
Thx 4 the info
My old build;Vengeance+holy shield+fanaticism and optional;Charge :)
my griswold avenger is probably my toughest character. my merc is a rogue with ICE runeword. inner sight helps with AR, the biggest weakness of this build.
With conviction I don’t find that ar is that useful except against act bosses maybe and you can smite them
What is an is jewel?
never understood why people on auradins go zeal when you have most synergies covered and you can do massive vengeance dmg
Speed is more important when applying elemental damage.
Vengeance for all it's amazing effects is very slow.
Whats the green aura? And how did u have poison skill blast like that?
Aura=convinction and the poison nova is because of wepon and helm
@@sadp9013 tq tq
Is it just me or does this just FAIL compared to Zeal + Conviction (for some reason Fanatacism just seems not worth it...)
I'm at around 92 on my main and god... very big GRIND :(
Sadly you NEED genuinely hyper rare/hyper endgame gear sadly :(
If you don't setup Vengeance properly it will always fail you.
Cheap runewords like Oath in an eth base can carry a vengeance paladin early on.
long live the algorithm
My vengeance paladin is really fun
@@Demortixx ever tried two handed vengeance=} even more fun
@ my current level 48 vengeance pally is using a unique staff.
An act 2 holy freeze merc with an insight, or an Ice Rouge merc with an insight could still provide the cold CC and help your mana issues with the build.
Mana regeneration is practically useless with small mana pools unfortunately
Would the elemental dam. on wep. like baranar star stack with vengeance?
@@GGMentorI thijk, the Cold Rogue would still be a very good choice as a mercenary. She could use an Insight (why not?) and help you out.
We need a walk through as I'm confused on this Vengeance ;( how exactly does he do nightmare if he's already super gear dependant
The weapon is the only really important bit, but yes it can be a pain without a decent weapon
@@GGMentor so really this guy is better suited at sniping and boss killing after you’ve hit 75 or better to respec into him
@@kristopherleslie8343 I wouldn't level him as a first character, but I have done it on live stream and it's fine.
@@GGMentor makes sense
@@GGMentor i did one last year and it made me sleepy by nightmare lol
Reminds me of a BARBs playstyle
I tried the weapon Death with eth berserker axe my damage is 11k
I have tested this character using "Fanaticism" and a
"Death" Decapitator (up to 18k damage), with a mercenary with Holy Freeze and a "Delirium" helmet and Reaper`s Toll Tresher.
Thanks for answering me.😉👍👍
lvl 5 conviction is -70% enemy defense. lvl 10 is -80%. Save the points imo.
and level 25 is -150% so no don't save the points
@@GGMentor not resist, defense
@@GGMentor you were talking about overriding uber meph
ahh I see, honestly every % counts when trying to hit the ubers they are very hard to connect hits on.
Why not phoenix and hoj
The phoenix fix the mana problem and - res and holy fire and plus ed
super complicated poo poo ability
👍🤡🐍
these videos are too long.Just get to the meat and pottoes of the skill.
Vengeance is a rather complicated skill, if you can't sit through this video you shouldn't use vengeance. You're just gonna make a fool of yourself with that skill.
😂
One if the most gay skills in the game, yet prob one of the hardest hitting
Cool build but I wish ppl would stop wasting time with this builds…. Nobody will play them because you still gotta kill 1 at a time and other builds can run laps around you for half the effort. Nobody will do anything without teleport and nobody will kill one at a time.
If you do then good for you. Great build… just a waste of time.
Hardly a waste of time, fully decked out they literally kill everything in the game with ease, they are amazing group characters with conviction, and the 1 at a time can be overcome with equipment.
Vengeance paladin was one of the most enjoyable builds I have run to date.
@@GGMentor oh I don’t doubt is fun and can kill everything. I’m just saying, even if you did 1 billion dmg per hit…. With a budget hammerdin or a blizzard sorc I’ll run laps around you and do it in a fraction of the time it’ll take you.
I just don’t know why ppl make this builds when end game won’t take place without teleport or aoe.
Is like those videos about “come learn to tele without enigma” not telling you to the very end those items are stupid expensive to repair…. 🤷♂️. But great build ye
@@Jugernaut305 It sounds honestly like you only care about efficiency, which is a poor way to play the game.
Teleport is not required, not every build needs to be a hammerdin or a sorc.
And further more contrary to some mistaken idea, there are literally hundreds of builds that can clear all content just fine, magic find just fine, and don't need enigma or teleport to do it.
I run a kinship full of non optimal, max efficiency builds and not only do we do just fine, we literally already have GG end game lvl gear within 2 week of ladder start.
What's more Is we actually had fun doing it.
@@GGMentor I agree and I honestly wish I didn’t. I think enigma is a cancer for this game…. But unfortunately it’ll never go away. I honestly wish I could look the other way…. You have a gift I have not been blessed with.
3 sunder charms?
