That’s crazy I remember watching this video back in the day and now I come back to it because I am a fan of your fish and shellfish content and saw it on your page
Was born and raised in the capitol forest off the Delphi rd. You could push me out of a helicopter skydiving blind folded and id be able to walk out of there knowing exactly where im at from any location of that forest lol. Could also live out there for months on end on trout deer berries chantarelles fiddleheads cat tails horse tails wild onions you name it
Chanterelles are my absolute favorite mushroom. Picking them is like picking fruit off of a tree. It isn’t going to destroy or hurt the mycelium. You had a lobster mushroom at 17:18, these are also an edible and quite tasty mushroom worth foraging for. Thanks for the video.
When I was a young man we used to pick them and sell them for 4 dollars a pound ! Spend all day out in the woods for gas and smokes money Lol . Loved it ! Thanks ..
Like the 5 gallon orange bucket, it is what I use as well (orange is important as your friend stated). Few modifications though. I usually drill holes throughout the bucket to let the mushroom spores continue to fall and avoids build up of moisture within the bucket. I run straps through the bucket so you can better travel with it while the bucket is full. I use a twist on lid you can buy at home depot. Much quicker and easier to get off/on while hunting.
Mushrooms live by the micro fibers that extend as mycelia from fruiting body to the next. So unless you destroy the microfibers that make up the whole thing, it doesent mattet
Thanks Jake! Unfortunately I don't know Capitol Forest that well. I Gold pan in lower waddel but that's it. Looking at a map I'm fairly sure we were on the D-4000 line from the Waddell road approach. We started near the peak I think. We would have had an awesome view if not for the clouds.
Love this video! I went out there last week and got skunked. Maybe with this information I will do better. Any chance you’d give me the trail name, or the general area?
Funny you ask because I just, not two minutes ago, got back from Capitol Forest and got skunked. In this video, we started at the peak and worked our way down. There is a couple trails up there. Don't know their names, but we did well. Not sure if there is more than one way to the peak or not, but part of the reason I got skunked was the gate was closed on the road I usually take (capital peak Rd). I need to check tonight if there is another way. (Easily hike-able too, but I can only go after work and it got dark).
Love this! In the WA area visiting my parents and I definitely want to try to find these after I take a foraging course or something. I feel like if I'm going to do it for the first time by myself I'm going to end up in the ER hahaha.
I just chop em up pretty fine, saute them in oil or butter for three minutes or so and they're good! Any application you'd use other mushrooms for. I ate mine over rice, on pizza, and in spaghetti sauce. Thanks for watching!
Even if it isn't spreading spores, mycelium will sprout from the decaying cap if the substrate (the correct word used here and in the video) is present. Scattering isn't a bad idea, as a result.
I have seen different opinions on that. I do cut mine ground level typically. But do the stocks themselves really regrow? I've seen no evidence of that. However I'm not arguing that it doesn't exist, or is not the case.
Awesome van!
I agree! He bought in new (then built the inside). He has 85k miles on it! Gotten a lot of great use out of it.

Excellent as always, thanks!
Thank you Mr. Martin!

Awesome video! I like the side quests Blake
Thanks Bo! I really appreciate the feedback on the sidequests.

That's awesome! Sounds like great times! Man, they're $35/lb at the fred meyer right now. Pretty wild!
Nice, My kids favorite thing to do besides fishing.
That's great Carl! I need to get my kid doing it!
Excellent video! And great advice at the end. It's been a few years but this has inspired me to get out and do some shrooming this weekend.
Thanks so much! When I saw your comment I texted Lee and said mission accomplished! : )
Those darn St. Louis mushrooms. ;-)
That's invasive species for you! :)

That's a great idea! I'll do that with mine. Thanks so much for sharing that info!
Great video brother
Thank you thank you!
Found some of those while fishing yesterday but didn't pick them because I wasn't sure. Guess I better go back and see if I can find more.
Cool! They are literally $35 lb at the fred meyer right now. Good picking if you can find it!
Why is Mushroom always the life of the party?
Fun-gi 😆😎
I was pretty tempted to do a bunch of shroom jokes, but managed to abstain!
HaHaHaHaHa!
Fungi. I see what you did there. There is just so mushroom for great content here.
Ha! Nice! Yours was actually orginally Gary!
Hey I know that area well! Nice video I need to get into foraging
Thanks Jacob! It was a great way to get out.
So much fun!!!
Use a basket. As you forage, you drop spores in the woods.
Ohhh. Thanks! Good to know.
Can you tell me a good area to find mushrooms?
Unfortunately, this area, Capitol forest was my first time trying it. So it's all I know. I suspect Lee's tips are applicable anywhere.

Thanks Don! That makes sense.
Mushrooms look yummy! :}
Thanks! They are very good. Eating the last of them in spaghetti sauce right now.
Sweet video man, thanks for posting! Which trail were you all at?

One reason traditional harvesters use baskets is to spread spores while your hunting. Not just to look cool lol
Thanks GnarGar! That is one of a few things I learned after filming this. Makes sense!

Another beaut!
Thanks as always Brian!
wish there had been a mention on the best way to cook them
I just chop em up pretty fine, saute them in oil or butter for three minutes or so and they're good! Any application you'd use other mushrooms for. I ate mine over rice, on pizza, and in spaghetti sauce. Thanks for watching!

Thanks Jarom! Good to have both of those things confirmed!
Cut them at ground level so they can grow back
I have seen different opinions on that. I do cut mine ground level typically. But do the stocks themselves really regrow? I've seen no evidence of that. However I'm not arguing that it doesn't exist, or is not the case.
dont wear orange in the woods. thats capitulating to Hunters. foragers FTW
Thanks for watching/commenting. I'd much rather play it safe. Especially in Capitol Forest. A lot of people go up there just to sight their riffles.
I miss it bros
