      This video has re-ignited my dream of a full Razer Chroma RGB. Having the headers splitted by Lian Li makes it much easier to figure out the pinout of the RGB which I can use to rewire to a Razer Chroma Controller. In comparison to the Riing how much or less bright are the Lian Li fans? I have Riing Trios and I love the brightness.

    I never really comment on videos, but when I do, they have really impressed. You only have 21K subscribers as of writing, yet you're video quality is simply amazing. Well beyond some of the biggest tech youtubers, such as BitWit, JayzTwoCents, PaulsHardware etc. You're basically on the same level as HardwareCanucks. Excellent intro editing, your set is simple, clean, yet cozy and professional looking. You speak clearly, informed and basically never stutter - which all of this is rare for a smaller RUclipsr to not accomplish straight away.

    Not sure if someone has already mentioned and I'm quite late to the video, but with the pwm issue, I also had this with my SL120s. After some googling (I no longer remember what I found) it seems to be, for my asus mobo, that the issue arose from the fact that the pwm connection to the motherboard only has the pwm sense wire. You'll notice its missing two cables. So the mobo in bios and the normal software was detecting it as no fan is actually connected as there was nothing really connected there. Because of that no pwm modulation happens, hence 100% rpm. So the way I got round it was to, in both bios and software, run the asus calibration routine to detect the speed limits with one of the fan headers from the ACTUAL fans connected to the mobo directly where the controller would have been connected. This way it picked up that there was a fan there and tricks it into keep thinking that and remembers the limits for that fan(s) . With that done I could put it back on the controller and put the controller header back on that same header and i was able to get ramp up and down normally from the SL120 based on cpu temps. Was a pain but was able to do it in the end.

    Nice video, I run the corsair QL fans right now but I always keep an eye out for something new and these might be it. My next build is going to have 11 fans so that is a ton of cables with the corsair setup (especially with everything required to control them). I do like though on the corsair fans how I see the RGB from the sides but overall I think the AL120's are a nice improvement over the SL120.
    Maybe Lian Li might be able to come up with some sort of insert or cover that goes over the sides to give them either the existing Aluminum look or remove it and you get a transparent look so you can see the RGB

    • @Ahnestly
      @Ahnestly  3 года назад

      So you can change the direction here as well on some RGB presets using the same arrow button (for example, when you are in unicorn mode, you can switch the direction), but when it's a preset setting where the lights "play" with each other, I didn't see an arrow to switch directions!

    I was sort of in the same boat as you, our builds are pretty similar. I have an O11 as well, and I bought 6 TT Quads to use, while using the stock RGB fans which aren't half bad that came with the cooler (Deepcool Castle 360 RGB, DO NOT buy it). I agree that both the software and the cables are horrific (the back of my case is a nightmare), but I just put the ones to the right of the mobo with their front facing towards me. That means I have 6 exhausts and 3 intakes, but it still seems to work pretty well. The app doesn't bother me much either because I have everything RGB (RAM, cooler, mobo, GPU, fans, peripherals, philips hue) synced with Razer Chroma, so it all runs pretty smoothly. The quads are absolutely gorgeous (have a friend who has QL's, it's not even close tbh), but due to the bad software I can't recommend them unless you're going for a full Razer Chroma build.

    To get the PWM control working make sure you connect that cable from the control box that has a single wire to a fan header on the motherboard, in the bios set that fan controller to PWM and set the relative temps and fan speed percentage there. In Lian Li's software set the fan mode to PWM, all the fans then will be controlled by that header for temperature speed.

    PWM (pulse width modulation) does not mean that the fan speed depends on the temperature of the components! PWM is simply a different way of controlling the fans. DC fans can do exactly the same as PWM fans, but the RPM is controlled by the voltage and not, as with PWM fans, by the frequency with which the 12 volts are applied.

    • @Ahnestly
      @Ahnestly  3 года назад

      I learned something today. Thank you! I'm curious as to why in PWM mode, they always correlate temperature with fan speed? I imagine there isn't a clean formula for how much heat a certain amount of voltage gives off bc, well, you can use different coolers to keep things cool even at high voltages?

    The unifans are just argb fans. They can do any lighting effect that is given to them. You can disable the lian li software and run the fans off of your motherboards argb header. As long as you have that hooked up to your header, you can use another software, ie something compatible with ur motherboard that has the music lighting. And they will 100% work like that

    A question: I have the older SL120 fans, 9 of them, in the same O11 dynamic case, and contrary to most people, I do not think of these fans as "quiet" at all. Not even at the lowest 800 rpm speed. What are your thoughts on these newer AL120s? Are they quiet (enough)? I'm irritated quite a bit by the constant humming of my dream pc now.
    PS: I am used to very high-quality Noctua fans, and tons of reviews have shown that the performance/noise ratio of those cannot be beaten. They simply are more silent at the same rpm.

    • @Ahnestly
      @Ahnestly  3 года назад

      Yeah noctua are def more quiet. Part of what makes the LL louder is that the case makes the fans louder since there is 0 sound absorption!
