  • It's the afternoon session at Hervey Bay! I would have loved to go to the mangroves, but alas, it is so far to walk... I'm glad I didn't though; I would have missed out on that lovely Long-spined Thorny Oyster. Ahhh, I think "spondylus" is actually easier to say! Anyways, thank you so much for watching~
    Morning at Burrum Heads: • Finding Seashells at L...
    Let me know which ones were your favourites ;D and if you enjoyed this and want to see more shell finding videos, I'd appreciate a like or a comment. I read all of them and try to reply when I can. You have no idea how much of a smile you guys put on my face. Thanks everyone!

    I didn't even realise that Hervey Bay and it's surrounding beaches had such lovely seashells until I saw "Shellcade Shelling Down Under" - I admired him a lot, and you can also check out his videos here:

    I really like the shape of the conical moon snails. 🐌🐌🐌 Another nice one is the burnt edged rock whelk. 🧡 Oh my goodness… that thorny oyster!!! Gorgeous! That’s my favorite today. You made a great haul today. 🎉🎉🎉 I shared some shells with my great niece on Saturday. I let her go through a big I haven’t sorted yet and she had a blast! Shells just make people happy! Thank you for the wonderful video Maddie! 🥰🥰🥰

That Burnt-edge Rock Shell is a nice find but yesss, that Thorny Oyster really was the easy favourite for the trip to Hervey Bay 😁 Ohhhhh that was so lovely, I bet your great niece was absolutely thrills to pick and choose her own shelly treasures 🤩 shells really do make people so happy 😁 Thank you for watching 🥰

    Good morning, Maddie
    The shrewd top shell is beautiful and so dark. The strawberry top shell is so lovely. The Haynes turbans. The strombus and the little limpits. All the moon snails have beautiful colors. I like the venus shells. Scary murex, the thorny top shell, dog whelke, and the neirite. There are just so many beautiful shells but the long spined thorny oyster is amazing. What an amazing shelling adventure. Thank you very much Maddie
    Have a great day.

      G'day Toni 👋🏻💖 There was a surprising amount of variety... for a while, I truly didn't think that I'd collect enough species to make for an interesting video. Those moon snails had lovely colours, but the Thorny Oyster really had the most incredible red on it's shell 🤩 Ahhh, all of the venus and surf clams were lovely too; I think I am always incredibly spoiled by this beach. I hope you are slowly feeling better, Toni, or can at least can see a way forward towards full health again. Thank you so much for watching 🥰

      @SandCoffeeRocks Hi Maddie
      Thank you for lifting my spirits. You are an amazing person.
      I still have the hole in my hip. It is slowly getting better. It is just taking so long. It has been a long almost 9 months. There are so many things I still can not do because of the hip issue. Don has to clean and pack it every night. He has to do just about everything. I can finally get myself dressed without his help. I am moving forward a little at a time. I do my best to help, but it is just not enough. There are so many things I really like to do and can not do. I just have to remember I will get there, hopefully sooner than later.
      Have a wonderful day, Maddie

      @SandCoffeeRocks  Месяц назад +1

      G'day Alison 👋🏻💖 Ohh I think that turkey wing was a good size; they're always so large from here! Actually, a lot of shells are able to reach their full size before washing ashore; it must be the thriving ecosystem at work. As for the kangaroos, I'm not sure what they go down there for...maybe it's just an easier way to move between environments? A lot of the surrounding areas have residential homes with cars and dogs, so a quiet beach must make it easier for them to move around in the morning? Not 100% sure though. As always, thank you so much for the kind words about the display 🙏🏻🐚 I'm so glad that you enjoyed the shells and the adventure today 🥰

I guess the sand swallows it up quickly. But the most notable shell this time was that Thorny Oyster 😲 maybe one day I'll find a more fresh and still joined one??
      Oh goodness, thank you for your kind words 🙏🏻 Hehe, the kangaroo tracks are definitely something that you would see over there 😂 Hmm, none on the beaches (I think they hop around very early in the morning/dawn) but I sometimes see them in the grassy sections around these quiet coastal towns! Hi, I just got back from a trip to Miami Beach and found some shells ! I was wondering what you do to display your shells at a desk ? I want them safe but also I’d like to see them while sitting at my desk. I feel if I just set them on the desk they will get damaged or i’ll lose one. How do you recommend I display them ?

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  Месяц назад +1

      G'day Alli, my goodness, welcome back from a big shell finding adventure! I hope you had a lovely time in Florida! For me, I don't display shells on my desk unless I've dumped them there to be sorted later... whoops, I'm a slightly messy person?? Getting back to your question though, I do have some ideas for desk displays depending on the size and variety of the shells... let's make some paragraphs:
      The first thing that came to mind was this video by The Shell Nuts regarding this very topic: ruclips.net/video/DmcBSEE80A0/видео.html I urge you to see how they use large glass jars, clear vases, and a little mineral oil to make beautiful shell displays - very inspiring and not too difficult to do.
      The second thing that came to mind (especially for smaller or flatter shells) was a frame; you could try a shadow box like these: www.google.com/search?q=shell+shadow+box that you could put together yourself with a little tape/glue and a hopefully inexpensive frame from your department store. It could be time consuming depending on the arrangement that you decide to create, but very unique and personalized to you tastes.
      Another idea, though more expensive for the amount of display space it has to offer and may or may not work depending on which shells you use (I've never tried it with any shells), is a 3D floating frame, which might also look nice on a desk: www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2332490.m570.l1313&_nkw=3D+floating+frame&_sacat=0 I think most people use them for jewellery and small mementos, so I can't see why it wouldn't work with shells.. but a rectangular frame like some of them on the eBay listings might hold, perhaps, 2 or 3 shells the size of a Lace Murex with how the plastic film needs to stretch and remain taut to hold the objects within it in place?
      If you have mini/micro shells, then a few tiny glass jars should work well; you can get them from craft or dollar stores; usually a few thumb-sized jars for a dollar or two spending on size and amount. The ones with the cork lids always look beachy to me!
      For a variety of extremely small shells, this has been a very popular little gadget on Instagram lately... I don't know if the fad is worth it, but it can look quite pretty if done right: www.ebay.com/itm/355559145589?var=624692324185&itmmeta=01J4XG8QP47MV6HEW70KQVHAKB&hash=item52c8fa0075:g:cc4AAOSw0q5l-QuA&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8KTZImqOhtNMnH2trboQIoerJgYHw%2BPy34%2FtI0QNO2jKfrOOF4qzBD1oSs93YO%2FjRCBo0LRaoZOYYU%2F7v8JigO9pKV1TA5JSiFId5BxTsZ4ZJzIfn9CoHHO317Cm5AjhnGVpnSpO9AQxN5V5az5cV9sDJGlrjy1pQVVdExz5zT9NPLE%2BD%2B%2FKec%2BbA98sYINcp8EFecCMS1gNJIefBDDyVj7Iz0N295Sx8YYGz46Pijx3H1p07dNQxW1fHM7Dv9H8Vdi0nR03PxmZsheeGRwku9FsTKHldbyvh%2FlVrTrTZTa1BUcpljMvVvovavhoAzkKpA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBMoPuisKdk Sorry for the long URL for that one... also, these eBay URLS are for the USA eBay; I can't remember where you are in the world, but you can shop around for you country's ebay for correct pricings in your currency, and availability for shipping to you in case you did want something like that. These floating frames and mini shell frame gadgets are also on Temu, AliExpress, Shein, etc.
      Finally, some people turn a large scallop shell into a dish (or you can use a regular ceramic dish in any shape you'd like) and pile their shells into that to display on their desks/shelves.
      I hope this has given you some fun ideas! For me, I will mostly use my shell cabinet; the cabinet is not in the sunlight and it doesn't allow for my air or dust to invade the space, so the shells inside stay looking shiny and protected. Anything else is usually packed away or left in piles somewhere... I'm a bit messy XD Thanks for watching, and I hope I've given you a few good ideas for displaying your shell finds!
