    Good morning,Maddie
    Wow, the cowries are amazing today. Love the lynx, mini sand dollars, wenteltraps, the bubble shells, and the sundial. There are so many just amazing shells. Thank you for another wonderful shelling adventure. It just helped me today. You always make my days better. Thank you for just being you.
    Have a wonderful day, Maddie

      G'day Toni 👋🏻💖 The cowries were especially spectacular this time; they usually do not appear in such lovely condition and in such numbers like this!! There was a lot of variety for the other shells as well; I think that there is something for everyone to live in this big adventure. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch a few extra long ones lately, I'm glad that they can help. I wish I could make all of your days better 💖

    Good morning Maddie, what a wonderful day at the beach. What wonderful finds. Geez the Wentletrap witch strikes again 😂. I'm going to start calling you the queen of mini's lol. Love the thorny oyster, the scallops. My favorite is the lynx. What a beautiful shell. That acid stuff will bring it right back to its original beautiful. Thank you Maddie. Looking forward to you next video. I guess your just going to have to take. Up beach combing as a full time job 😂 just kidding. Sending hugs to my favorite sheller. Again Thank you for sharing.

      G'day Roberta 👋🏻💖 It was a beautiful day out there, with a lot of shells to find! So many wentletraps once again, but I think this will be the last of them for a little while until the mid-moon tides return with more minis... but even then, so many wentletraps isn't guaranteed! That Lynx Cowrie is getting plenty of love this time; it's like a golden nugget that everyone is drawn to! Not sure if I will acid dip it; I don't like acid on cowries because it can eat away at the shells too quickly, and I dunno, I don't like the texture afterwards on them. I think I might bleach this one to fight off that pinkish fungus, then spend some time to polish it with the wet sand paper. It won't be perfect, but it will be better! As always Roberta, thank you so much for watching 🥰

    I had mentioned last video that it’s lovely to see you find such wonderful cowries!… rings even more true in this video! The “gleaming and shiny” yellow toothed cowries were amazing as well as the donkey, unusual clandestine, cherry and cat cowries as well. I think my favorites for the day are the sundial and fraudulent moon snail as they aren’t your usual finds. Thanks for the adventure!

      G'day Abigail 👋🏻🐚 I think I'm quite spoiled at this beach... You need to find a very fresh shell for it to be gleamy and shiny, and not every beach has lots of freshly emptied cowries like this one 😲 So many standouts this time, especially with the red cherry 🍒 Love your picks for the favorites; the Sundial and Fraudulent Moon Snail really are unusual finds for here 🤩 Thank you so much for watching the big adventure 🥰

    Hello there Maddie!
    The wandering cowrie was lovely, oh no a stinky cowrie, did you take that home?😷😂Flask shell very pretty. Very nice music cone, posing as a cornetto!
    Yes hermit crabs do have expensive taste and always pinch the best shells.
    Love that eroded cowrie. I especially like the spotted parts. Yes, the lynx cowrie beautiful!
    We are still getting the odd nice day but temps are dropping at night time now and it’s a bit cooler. I did see a small lizard just outside the house last week. Quite a rare sighting here. It was small and perfect and enjoying the sun before it heard my dog coming and then it ran off- lovely to see! I hope the spring days there are warm for your shell hunting. ❤xxxxxx

      @SandCoffeeRocks  Месяц назад

      G'day Alison 👋🏻💖 Ahhhh actually no, I decided to leave mister stinky behind - even though he was so lovely looking, I think I might have passed out from the stench on the drive home!! Oh wow, you are the second person to mention that flask shell... I find them sometimes, but I mostly chose to cut them out of the videos because I didn't remember the name until recently, and I thought they might seem unimpressive? My bad! Those hermit crabs, or my gosh, I saw two at the beach today with very unusual and enviable shell homes; they really, REALLY do have expensive taste! I mean, I would too if I lived at the beach every day!! Ooof, the cold days are coming to stay. Alison, I think it might be time for you and the doggo to vacation somewhere warm 😂 or you know, bust out the throw blankets and get that radiator running! Loved all the wentletraps! I have only 1 lol. I’ve like to shell for more. Wow all the cowries were amazing. That I think that cherry at the beginning with the purplish base (at least that’s how it looked on my TV) was so pretty. That Lyns! SWEET! Cat was beautiful. The sundial was SO pretty with that b/w! I understand your comment about taking empty shells in response to people saying you should leave them-I’m honestly sick of the few that comments on my videos about that. There are no shortage of shells and human kind has been shelling for ALL time! It’s engrained in humanity since ancient history! They even used shells for money and taking live shells wasn’t even a question back them-they just did it. Researching my video about royal purple dye it took thousands of murex shells just to make a tiny bit of dye…I was reading where it took over 10 thousand shells!! And that was only for purple dye imagine all the other ancient uses they used shells for! Moving to today…after a storm thousands of “empty” shells are washed up!! THERE ARE SHELLS FOR THE CRABS PEOPLE!!!! The issue is crabs are choosing TRASH b/c in some parts of the world there is so much trash they choose the lighter homes (bottle caps etc)….anyways, rant over lol but I’m about sick of those comments. And with dreading like here in Florida, millions of shells are piled up EMPTY after the sand sorting and are used for under foundations of homes in Florida. But oh no, it’s us the little shellers ruining the world-yeah, sure! 🙄 Since January that I’ve been putting content out I’ve deleted about 7 comments and banded 2 users.

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  Месяц назад

      G'day Roxann!! You'll find more, don't you worry ;) I think it's hard for you Florida folks to go about looking for the minis when you have all of those amazing macroshells to find... who's going to scrutinize specs on the sand when you can walk up to a huge lightning whelk instead? Ohhh yes, it is a cherry cowrie in this video and yes; it does have purple teeth - some cowries have bright colours in their teeth!
      Hahaha, rant away!! I want to give some of my thoughts about it all too, so be prepared for a return rant. I have also received comments about that; they think that the hermit crabs own every shell on the beach. That's like saying that one flock of butterflies owns an entire forest, or one gaggle of geese owns an entire lake. There is plenty to go around for everyone but these people, if you'll excuse me, get a bug up their butts about it; like they're suddenly very concerned for this very niche animal in the environment. Do they not realise that driving a car is worse for the crabs (nature in general) than collecting a few shells? Or that the roads, homes, and businesses they use have cleared environmental land so that humans can thrive? Will they abandon their modern lives and return to be hunter/gathers... oh wait, that's harming animals too isn't it XD but who knows, are they also going to give back the air they breathe? Heck no, but yet they suddenly are so very, very concerned about some empty shells that a crab may or may not use as a home. Just accept these comments into your eyeballs, and then move the fingers to the touch screen to tap tap block them.
      Ohhh for the crabs with the trash homes; it was a bit of a boiling pot that splashed over onto us. I also got 2 or 3 comments about that too. It all happened when a viral video on that big animal channel (The Dodo) spread awareness about this issue with only one view of the topic (that it was a terrible problem). I believe it was only at one beach in Japan, and there was no conclusive research as to why the crabs were choosing plastic instead of shells, but like you; I suspect that the colours, textures, and lightness of the plastic material where what interested the crabs. But since then, people watch this video, are biased by it, and are then recommended our channels due to the similarity in content... they see us collecting shells and feel the need to get preachy about it. They have not done any research into the beaches were live at, or the crab populations, or any kind of shell numbers or ecological data, but they feel like they know everything they need to know to yuck on our yum, so to speak. Most of the time, these people have strong opinions that aren't worth reasoning with (some are more polite, so I reply to them) but there are some that I will happily hide from the channel. And that's fine; everyone has their own opinions whether they are right or wrong.
      I will say though: 99.99% of the people and comments that I get are so supporting or positive or interested in shelling, and they make everything worthwhile. I was honestly expecting a lot of negativity when I started because, you know, it's the internet, but I've been very pleasantly surprised.
      Also, I remember your stories about the shells being used in housing foundations; that's really wild to me! You guys really have to many shells to be able to do that! Ohhh and yes, the royal purple dye; I watched a RUclips channel's documentary about that a few months ago after first hearing this story from another shell collector. It was something like "why is it so expensive?" or something like that, maybe you also watched it. It was about a man in Morocco (I think) who had a passion for recreating the lost art of making this purple dye. Fascinating, and the man's practices were as sustainable as possible, and with none of the snail going to waste. Yet he copped a lot of hate for it, poor man.
      I'm too nice to end a snail's life, but that's just me living a very easy and privileged life in a first world country; I understand that these creatures are a vital resource and/or food source to many cultures. As you say, humans have collected shells for decorations, food, and tools since ancient times; it is natural for us.But it is truly the very privileged and modern folks that can have such big concerns over small matters while living at the expense of the environment they claim to defend. But that's people for you. Again, most of the ones that I've seen here are lovely though; yourself included. Thanks for watching, and listening to my even longer rant!!

If you do, that opens up some possibilities. I’ve heard that Double Island point has bonnets, but it’s a long drive out over the sand so 4WD is the only option. No worries, I hope you have a safe and happy trip 🏖 I’m a bit surprised that you haven’t found any good beaches up there; Port Douglas in particular is known for its shells, and it’s only a bit further north from Cairns. Maybe Bowen or areas north of Mackay. Don’t forget Yeppoon too. Not sure if any of them are specify good for Checkerboard Bonnets though, but there are shells of various types to find. I think, like everywhere in Australia, that there pocket of places with shells on the shore, while other areas may have very little. Keep searching for the shelly beaches!

      @@janedavidson8348 Try Kinka Beach ;) I didn't get to try many beaches while I was up there on one weekend, but the playlist is here: ruclips.net/p/PLXOZDMn4qoJTmLMNeRra2V7jP0dgY7Pdv Please let me know what other beaches you try and what you find there; I'd really appreciate it for planning my next trip up there. Thanks!
