Oh my goodness Maddie!!! You haven’t found a carrier shell in a long time, and what a fabulous one it was! 💗💗💗 Loved the operculums, especially the first smaller one! I could really see that one in a piece of jewelry. 💍💍💍 Fantastic selection of cowries today, and I loved the orange pink pippi shell. By the way I love the joined cockle shell! ❤ Thank for an amazing video!!! 🥰🥰🥰
G'day Pam 👋🏻💖 I know, it's been sooo long since the last carrier shell!! I think I found one on a shelling video that was too small to publish...though, yes, I gave that carrier shell away without filming it, that's what happened 😂 it wasn't a super good one, but the kiddo was really happy about getting it (on vacation up here to go shelling, I think was the story) I digress 😅 Oh, Operculums do get used to make bracelets anf necklaces; they're in the surf-themed shops here, but I'm sure they buy these products from an overseas supplier. Still, some small Operculums would make excellent jewellery! The joined Cockle was lovely too, I wonder why they aren't super common at this beach 🏖️🤔 but I see so many at Hervey Bay. Must be different environments, but then, why such a fresh one this time?? Questions I'll never know the answers to 😂 Oh, there is a question! I might send out Xmas cards again this year; do you want one with some Aussie animals on it 🦘?? And as always, thanks for watching 🥰
G'day Helga 👋🏻🐚 The Pipis have amazing colours here, especially those "Common Pipis"! I think there are smaller species on the stretches of beach that aren't rock pools or mud flats, but I usually don't visit them...less shells to find, but still some notable Pipis! Thank you so much for watching 🥰
G’day Oceanluvn Gal 👋🏻🌊💖 Ohhh those are wonderful picks for the tippy top favourites 🤩 It was too hard to choose between the Eroded Cowries; they were both so nice!! The Carrier Shell is a really nice one too; probably almost maximum size for this species if it is indeed a Solar Carrier Shell (it’s just a little guy, apparently)! Thank you for watching the big adventure today 🥰
G’day Bonnie Julian 👋🏻❤️ Aww thank you for saying so 🙏🏻 I’m really pleased that you enjoyed seeing the shells today; I thought it was an interesting and varied lot…well, there were a lot of cowries though 🤣 Thanks for watching 🥰
G’day Brian 👋🏻🐚 The Red Wing Oyster was lovely and eye-catching wasn’t it!! The Wandering Cowrie is such a cutie; both the live shell and the empty one 🐌 they really are interesting creatures. Thank you so much for watching 🥰
I never tire of seeing those zebra volutes...also love the prickly drupe! Spent a good part of today on Sanibel Island in Florida. Sitting in a pile of shells is a very happy place.
G’day Leslie 👋🏻🐚🏖️ Oh my goodness, you were absolutely in shell paradise!! Sanibel, wowsers, I bet you found some beauties there? Was there a lot of shells still left after the recent storms? I wonder how much was already picked though… but new shells wash up everyday of course. What an amazing day for you 🤩 and you still found time to watch the little shells I find here in Australia?? Thank you, I don’t think I’d have been able to rip me eyes away from the Sanibel shell pile 🤣 Thanks again for watching 🥰
found a few good shells...very picked through I think...tons of pen shells...the day before I found lots of tiny shells on fort myers beach...a tiny lightning whelk, and a tiny spiny jewell box....love your adventures!
@ Oh wow, yes, I imagine that quite a few people flocked to the beaches after the storm! I saw Florida Beach Walks video with all of the pen shells - incredible! I’m glad to hear that you still got some goodies that were overlooked 😉 or were recently washed ashore. Must have been an awesome day at the beach 🏖️
G'day Celia 👋🏻🐚 Hello you you in Northeaster Florida 😲 I hope you've been keeping safe and dry over there; those storms have been crazy! I'm so glad you enjoyed seeing the shells from this part of the word 🏖️ the Eroded Cowrie was a fantastic one!! Thank you so much for watching 🥰
High Maddie 👋 Beautiful cowries today ❤ also Hydatina physis is almost perfect 🤩 the Orange cockle is a sun eruption 🌋 , stunning fainted pattern on Crowned cone 🤩 elusive and attractive, the broken Triton, I think more to Cymatium moritinctum than Ranularia caudata ( I have both in my collection) . Very nice orange Latona deltoïdes 🤩. All very beautiful 😍 thank you Maddie ❤❤❤❤❤ Francesco 👋
G'day Francesco 👋🏻🏖️❤️ The cowries were popping up everywhere this time 🤩 but I was surprised by that Orange Cockle; I don't often find joined ones like this!! As for the broken Triton, I must admit that I was unsure...your Cymatium moritinctum as a new "accepted" name as 'Ranularia cynocephala' the Dog-head Triton. For me, I was debating between this shell being Ranularia cynocephala or Ranulatia caudata...in the end, I chose R.caudata because it seems like R. cynocephala is a world wide shell, but with more sightings in the Atlantic areas, even though it is also reported in many areas, including the West Indo-Pacific. I'm happy to call it Ranularia cynocephala though; I was really tossing up between the two IDs for it 😆 as for the orange Latona deloïdes, I still dont know if that name is right...I have no idea if the common pipi shells can be different colours like that, but the shell looks exactly the same as the purple ones, so?? Thank you for your wisdom and time, Francesco 🙏🏻❤️ and thank you so much for watching 🥰
G'Day Maddie I love the prickly drupe shell. Also the pipi that was yellow and purple inside. 😊 We drove 10 hrs to Va Beach this weekend to search for some 'hairy' shells as I remembered seeing something like that on some rocks. Per your advice I found Hairy Arc shells!!!. They were alive so we photographed them and enjoyed seeing a new shell. So Thank You and Shell On ❤
G'day Donna 👋🏻💖 Whaattttt!!? 10 hours to go shelling, that's dedication!! What a fantastic trip 😲 Oh my goodness, some Hairy Arc Shells 😲 I wonder if they are Mossy Arcs 🤔 in Australia, our shells are a little same same but different to the exact species over in the USA. How wonderful to find shells with some periostracum on them; and they were live you say? It's always a special experience to see live at the beach like that 😀 I'm glad you had such a lovely day 🐚 and thank you so much for watching 🥰
G'day Tammy 👋🏻🐚 Those Pipis are really colourful and impressive now that I've taken the time to collect and appreciate them more over the last few weeks 😲 I didn't give them much thought before, but perhaps I should have! Thank you so much for watching 🥰
That eroded cowrie from the chuck pile was gorgeous! I love the joined ones that look like butterflies 🦋. I think the thick edge cowrie was pretty special as well but I can’t remember the proper name. The wandering cowrie is. Always a pleaser. I really like the stripes. They look so even. It amazes me. So I have to pick that as a fav.
G'day Green Thumb Gardener 👋🏻☘️❤️ Hehe, the "chuck pile" 😂 I watched that back and wondered if it sounded too Australian, like: "chuck a chook on the barbie" (put a chicken on the barbecue) type of too Australian 🤣? Anyway! The Thick-edged Cowrie (that's it's English name 😉) was a nice on this time, and for the proper scientific name, you can call it a Caurica. The Thick-edged Cowrie and the Wandering Cowrie are both from the same scientific genus 😲 be even so, they look so different but no less lovely 😍 I'm glad you liked it as well. Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Hi Maddie, Jan here, coming to you right now from Singapore, before heading back to land-locked Austria tomorrow. Oh my good-golly goodness, what a great cowrie day! It's difficult to choose anything else as a favorite, but today I loved the carrier shell, the drupe, and the colors of the two joined pipis (sp?). But, as always, everything was great and your end displays are always works of art! Thanks so much for filming!
G'day Jan 👋🏻💖 You are such a world traveler, it's really quite impressive to me ✈️🤩 I hope you have an amazing few days in Singapore...I know it's a modern city, but it's still so exotic in its own ways; have a blast there!! Hehe, oh my good-golly goodness indeed 😂 the cowries were popping out of everywhere this time!! I must admit though, that Carrier Shell is a stellar pick for the favourite; I don't often find such a nice one like that 😲. The Pipis were wonderful too, ah, the species is just "Common Pipi" apparently, so just Pipi is fine...they're also fine eating 🤣 though that's something that's maybe more popular with Aussies of the past generations 😎! Thank you so much for your kind words, and for taking the time to comment while so busy with travelling and exploring ❤️ stay safe, and have fun 🥰
G'day Aussie Dirt Digger 👋🏻🪙💖 Getting those "large" pieces of purple lace coral was a real treat...I think I only find them that big once a year??? Not sure, but it's not often! The cowries are fun all year round, and I'm glad you liked the Carrier Shell too 😉 Haha, that Nerite was a bit of a joke at the end for being an overlooked shell family 🤣 Thanks for watching the big adventure today 🥰
Love your excitement in collecting these beauties. You should publish an encyclopedia on all the shells you've found. Thanks for putting the names of these beauties. One day you should do beach stones. These shellable beauties are the Lord's creations.💯💯💯🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
G'day Giselle 👋🏻🏖️ Oh gosh, thank you 😁 I'm so glad you love the excitement! An encyclopedia 😲 I've though about making a little cheat sheet for my own records that is more that just text in a table in a word document, but to be honest: the places that I get my information from are already like little web encyclopedias; I don't think I'd do it better or different than them 😂 Question: what do you mean by "beach stones"? Such as collecting interesting rocks from the beach, or is this something else? I actually did pick up a cool red/white rock the other day, but I wouldn't have a clue what it is or what to do with it 😅 Thanks for watching 🥰 and for your kind words 🙏🏻
G’day Jeff 👋🏻💖 It was a really interesting haul of goodies…I didn’t think so much would wash up or be waiting in the rock pools after the types of tides that had come and gone 🤔 it’s just shows that you’ll never really know what’s waiting for us at the beach 🏖️ Thank you for your kind words, and thanks for watching 🥰
G’day Judi 👋🏻💖 Hope you’re doing well over there… must be getting colder! It’s getting warmer over here, but all year round is good for shelling 🐚 that Carrier Shell was a nice one! Thanks for watching 🥰
Hi Maddie you had a fabulous cowrie day. Loved all your finds. We had a fantastic few days shelling at Hastings Point if your ever down there 😉 I found checkered bonnets, variety of cowries, Spenglers trumpet shells, hairy tritons. I was in shell luxury 🥰🐚
G'day Jane 👋🏻🏖️ Yesss I'm glad to hear that you're having the long awaited shelling luck 🤩 congratulations on your Checkerboard Bonnets, I know you were specifically hoping for them!! I've heard only good things about Hastings Point in the past, so I'm thrilled that you took the time to explore it. Flat Rock, Yamba, and parts of Woolgoolga have also been brought to my attention, so perhaps you will consider visiting them as well, time and travel permitting 😀 Thank you so much for watching 🥰
G'day Roxann 👋🏻🏖️ The purple Coquina is a Pipi! Not sure why we call them that here 😂 must be an indigenous Australian name? They're pretty common around here 😲 Even so, it's crazy how big they get! The older generations liked to catch them from the sand and eat them... I think it's not done as much now though 😅 Thanks for watching 🥰
Hi Maddie hope all is well. Loved your video today. The orange/purple pippy was my fav. Gorgeous. I believe the white flat moon snail here in fla. Are called baby ears. Another similar shell is called a sailor's ear. Not a snail though.
G'day Jk 👋🏻💖 I'm doing great, I hope you've been doing well too? I'm so glad you liked the video; I was really pleased with the shells this time!! I'm always surprised by how much love those Pipis get in the comments 😳 I really need to show more of them 😂 I never really thought about how lovely they are until very recently! Also yes, you are correct 😁 you have Baby Ears (Sinum perspectivum), and we have Lined Ear-like Moon Snails (Sinum zonale)! They look so, so similar because they are both in the same shell family "Naticidae" and same shell genus "Sinum" 😲 so it's not wonder these two species of moon snails look so similar to each other despite coming from opposite sides of the world 🤩 As for the Sailor's Ears, I'd never heard of them before 😂 a clam of some kind? Interesting, that's a new one for me!! Thank you so much for watching 🥰
G'day Di 👋🏻🏖️💖 Bubble shells really are lovely aren't they?? Especially the various paper bubble species; just a little more amazing compared to the brown bubbles! Zebra Volutes are a lovely favourite as well 🤩 I suddenly can't remember if they're native only to Australia 🦘?? We have a lot of native Volutes here! Thank you so much for watching the big adventure today 🥰
The 🐚 shells picks are getting nicer over here in the Gulf as well. Maybe because of the Autumn weather. Will you make an art piece with all your Lace Coral 😢you found?
G'day Shelviliger 👋🏻🐚 Ohhh the Gulf of Mexico? Hello to you in that part of the world 🌎 yes, I imagine the shelling would be really good right now because of how the recent storms have whipped up the water and currents!! I hope you've been finding some goodies? As for the art question, I don't use the shells for anything like that...I like arranging them in my shell cabinet, or assorting them into jars 🤩 it's not art, but decorative in its own way. What kind of art would you make with the lace coral? Thanks for watching 🥰
G’day Richard 👋🏻🌊 The cowries are my favourites as well 🤩 Maybe you can go shelling one day and find some too 🤔 shelling is such an exciting and interesting hobby 🐚😍 Thanks for watching another big adventure 🥰
G’day Fuller Family 👋🏻🌊 Those cowries were out in force this time 🤩 I feel like there was a bunch more than usual! The Carrier Shell really was one of the best shells this time though, such a wonderful last minute find! Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Aaaaaaa..... I literally forgot put my comment here Well,my fav today isssssss 1. Bent neck triton,i love the orange color, sadly its a broken one😢 2. Thick edge cowrie, its so beautiful 3. The scally scalops Thank youuuu for bringing us to a great adventure Maddie 🎉❤
G’day Nelly 👋🏻💖 You are too lovely Nelly, you don’t need to remember to comment 😉 I’m just glad that you enjoy the adventures!! Wow, the top favourite is the broken triton? The colour is super fantastic one it, and yeah, it’s a little broken…but maybe that’s a good thing; it probably stopped a hermit crab from taking it 😂 The second fav of yours is the Thick-edged Cowrie; do you find these cowries too? I don’t think they’re a native Australian shell 🤔 you might be within the range of them? Ohh and the scaly scallops are a favourite too 😍 As always Nelly, thank you so much for watching 🥰
@@ShellingAdventures u are right Maddie 🤣, I'm sure hermit crabs have a big doubt to take it, The thick edge?sadly no,until now i never find it here😐 I'm the one should say thanks Maddie, your videos really help me relax and reduce my stress🤣
@ Hmm, I will have to see if I remember to check the Thick-edged cowries range in the morning 🤔 awww gosh, I’m so happy that these videos do this for you 💖💖💖💖
I too made an exception for a broken shell but bucket list shell find last week. I managed to score a almost full tun shell. So many great cowrie shells for you! I dont blame you for not filming while in that splash zone, it can be rough there. Thanks for sharing.
G’day Danielle 👋🏻🐚 Oh my goodness, that’s incredible exciting!! Congratulations one your mostly intact Tun Shell… they sure like to break easily, and I don’t think I’ve ever found more than one tiny whole one myself. The cowries seem much more robust in comparison 😂 The low tides have been high lately; I was quite surprised to find so many cowries washed ashore though 🤔 it was unexpected! Thank you so much for watching 🥰
G’day Natalia 👋🏻💖 It was a fun trip that ended in a nice haul of shells 🤩 That end display really wanted to tip over for a while 😅 but as always, it takes me about 30-40 minutes for a display, maybe a little less if there are less shells. The microshells take a long time to place though 😂 small, but numerous and troublesome!! Thanks for watching 🥰
G’day Jan 👋🏻💖 The Carrier Shell was a very fun last minute find!! I think it’s a good size too: if it’s indeed a Solar Carrier Shell, then this would be its maximum size 🤩 Oh no, you’re going to make me try to science this just before bedtime 😂 I’ll try to explain how it adds the bits to its shell; but it may not be the complete or correct story. The little bits are rocks or shells (or shell grit in this case) that the Carrier snail comes across while alive. While the Carrier snail forms its shell as it grows, it somehow manoeuvres these bits into the forming section, and result is that the bits are slightly inset into the shell itself. Sometimes if I see a Carrier Shell with a missing goodie on top, it will result in a hole or groove where the carrier had formed around the grit or rock that decorated its shell. Again, I’m not sure of the exact process… I think this one might require some research, but not tonight 😂 Thanks for watching 🥰 and I hope you didn’t think my explanation was too broad 😅 honestly, I should probably research how snails make their shells in general!
Love ciwriues but watching your videos I really love the bubble shells and zebra shells and slso cone shells.
Awesome Video i Love the Cowries i wish i had some cowrie shells👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
G’day Richard 👋🏻🌊 The cowries are my favourites as well 🤩 Maybe you can go shelling one day and find some too 🤔 shelling is such an exciting and interesting hobby 🐚😍 Thanks for watching another big adventure 🥰
Loved all of the cowries, but I especially liked the carrier shell! Thank you for sharing!
I literally forgot put my comment here
Well,my fav today isssssss
1. Bent neck triton,i love the orange color,sadly its a broken one😢
2. Thick edge cowrie, its so beautiful
3. The scally scalops
Thank youuuu for bringing us to a great adventure Maddie 🎉❤
@@ShellingAdventures u are right Maddie 🤣, I'm sure hermit crabs have a big doubt to take it,
The thick edge?sadly no,until now i never find it here😐
I'm the one should say thanks Maddie, your videos really help me relax and reduce my stress🤣
Hey Maddie! Cool finds today! How long it takes you to do the final display? They always look so nice
My favorite is the carrier shell. Question, how does the carrier get the bits on top?
@ Maddie you explain it perfect. Always learn something new. Have a great night.
You are definitely a Cowrie girl.
G'day Mary 👋🏻💖 They're definitely my favourite kind of shell family 😉 Thank you so much for watching 🥰
