    Himalayan balsam is invasive BUT honey bees love it and they need as much help as we can give them .

    • @srs9130
      @srs9130 2 месяца назад +3

      There are lots of other plants that can be planted that honey bees and ots of other native pollinators like, so pulling out the invasive himalayas balsam should still be a priority, and instead planting other plants for bumblebees and solitary bees and all of the other Pollinator a priority

      It is illegal isn't it???

    • @srs9130

      It's not illegal to pull it out and leave it on the bank to wither , but it is illegal to spread it about in the wild or cause out to spread :)

    Himalayan balsam’s scientific name is Impatiens glandulifera.
    The leaves are purported to soothe burns (they give off a soothingly cool feeling when delicately laid upon the burn) and the seeds can be consumed and are supposed to taste nutty. Simmering the roots can yield juice that has been used to treat blood in the urine.
    There is another type of impatiens, called Impatiens capensis (AKA jewelweed), which is similar to this plant, but is orange. Those plants can be used topically, by applying the sap to skin irritated by stinging nettle or poison ivy. They have also been used to treat hives. The sap from the leaves and from the stems is anti-fungal, as well! 😊
    It’s a beautiful plant and reminds me of the bougainvillea (pronounced bo gan vee ah) plant that is everywhere in Arizona.

      Her and mum have the most beautiful hands I've seen. I hope they are healing w no trouble. I hate to say I've done the same to mine but they healed up nicely. I just love watching you two. You remind me of my momma and i.. we were thick as thieves. She was my best friend. Unfortunately I lost here 6 yrs ago in Jan. She was only 67 and she was sick fast. I miss her daily and watching you both brings my heart light. I'd love to become a mudlarker but I live in the deserts of az. I'd give my right arm for a box of sea glass.. I make jewelry as well and it makes the most beautiful jewelry. I would so love to go to the beach and collect some. Thank you both for bringing me joy w each episode.. can't wait till the next. Be well.

    Gail and Alex, i would be very nervous about that water and the steep bank. Rather you than me, venturing up and down that slope. Ugh, one false move and a very cold dip would be dreadful. I know your sensible and very careful, but ill wish you safe larking none the less.
    The layers in that fallen bank was quite amazing to look at. How tempting is would be to have a good scrape to see what lies beneath. I'd be watching that overhang, like a hawk.
    Some lovely finds ladies and i must admit I'm ways drawn to the little bottles. The little square ink bottle was adorable as was the perfume bottle. It was such a shame about the crack. X

    A lot of neat finds. The microscope is a fun bonus. That is going to come in handy a lot, I think. As a rock collector, every time you are at a stony place, I can't help being distracted looking at the rocks.
    We used to find pottery pieces every time they disked and tilled the garden. One of my aunts used the shards she found to do a mosaic top to her outdoor table. Wish I had gotten pics of it.
