Yes, Australians will recognise Opal anywhere and understand it's value. I'm still grinding my teeth about an Opal and Silver ring that I lost whilst travelling overseas many years ago. Had picked up in a market for $30 in Sydney, a couple of years later saw almost the exact same stone, colour size etc. in a Jewellery store. It was priced at $2.5K. 😮😢
Geoffrey Munn is endlessly entertaining. And it's not just his incredible knowledge, his keen powers of observation, his marvellous storytelling, & his sparkling vocabulary. Geoffrey's greatest charm is that he understands not just price, but VALUE. He respects & is curious about family history, about how even inexpensive objects can become priceless to their owners, how collectors of even modest items became collectors--he's passionate about it all. And he weaves fascinating stories about items he spends only moments with--I literally pictured the apprentice jewellery-maker Geoffrey must have pictured as he described the many talented hands that worked on the egret brooch at 33:39. Geoffrey Munn has an almost intimate knowledge of the pieces he examines, it's extraordinary.
