    Went to school with him and even back then you knew he was destined for higher honours - built like a brick outhouse and really nice fella as well.

    What a classy centre. His running style reminds me so much of Carel du Plessis in his heyday. "Glided" over the ground, and what a sidestep!! World class Mr "Cutman"....!!

    Excellent upload. Snyman was up there with O'Driscoll and Umaga in his day......pity about that injury and the cold Bok shoulder he got when he joined the Sharks. Butch, Halstead and Snyman were a devastating axis in super rugby.

    Very wise man, such a shame he missed the three World Cups especially 1999 where he seemed so good.

    Outstanding centre. Up there with Danie, but there was only one Danie Gerber. I love your channel!

      Not even close to Danie Gerber. In fact he is not even one of the best 20 Bok centers

    You always hear people speak about the "traditional" strengths of Springbok rugby, mentioning power, grunt, physicality, dominating opposition up front. But if you watch all of these video's, you see beautiful running, creating space, offloading in tackles. What happened? When did we move away from this style of play? Sad.

      Christiaan Nel everyone forgets that springbok rugby is running rugby, you can watch any game from any era and you'll see amazing skill and plenty of tries. our forwards traditionally were always big and dominated and our backs would float like butterflies and sting like bees

      I don't think we moved away from that style of play, I think other teams evolved to catch up with us and we stayed pretty much where we were. Players for other teams are now as big and mobile as we are and defence is trained and practised daily; teams and players are analysed extensively by the opposition to get an understanding of what they will do and how they will do it, and countermeasures are put in place. Also take into consideration how exhausted some of our players are, having to travel twice around the world in one season, with a brief weekend away in Washington just because we apparently can, before running on to the field to play England at Twickenham in the November tours. There are times that I am surprised that they can run at all.

    the Springboks have always been much better running team than given credit for.
    They just understand that if their forwards are not winning ball then their backs are probably not going to be running with as much.

      Saw him at Loftus when I went with my Dad (was some of the players' financial advisor) - frikking powerhouse. Chatted to 20 year old me like I was his buddy. One of my favourite players, such that I didn't suddenly hate him when he joined the Sharks hahaha

    He was a great runner. Always thought he ran like Danie Gerber. Was this (9:50) the try where he broke his leg?

    • @RealRugby
      @RealRugby  7 лет назад +5

      Stephan Alberts I always thought he was as good as Gerber in his prime. Yes, that try against the AB's is where he broke his leg. He was never the same after that...

    We have been absolutely blessed with some cracking 13's and Andre Snyman on his day is up there with the best. Jacques Fourie and Danie Gerber probably head and shoulders above the rest but had there been fewer injuries and a deserved longer run at 13 then Snyers would have proven to be better than Fleck, Mulder, Marius Joubert and Am as far as good Bok 13s go

    Always strange to see a genuine attacking player in a traditionally structured bulls outfit.
