- The trio of Bob, Peter, and Bunny started out with hits like Simmer Down, Trench Town Rock, Nice Time, Concrete Jungle, and Get Up, Stand Up. By late 1963, singers Junior Braithwaite, Beverley Kelso, and Cherry Smith had joined the group. The line-up consisted of Braithwaite on vocals, Marley on guitar, Tosh on keyboard, and Wailer on percussion, with Smith and or Kelso on backing vocals.
In 1965, Kelso left the band. Bob, Peter, Bunny, and Braithwaite took turns on lead vocals. Braithwaite left shortly after providing lead vocals for the single "It Hurts to be Alone", leaving the band consisting of the trio of Bunny, Bob, and Peter. However, by 1974 the trio was to be no more as each began their solo career.

One truth about the three guys is, they were all lead singers or vocalists that needs to express themselves individually, so the breakup was divinely orchestrated for their good, we now have Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny wailer separate albums to enjoy, all things work together for good.

All legends, but Tosh's voice is more distinct. Bob had more charisma & could appeal to a wider audience
They all had; that's what made them such a strong and complementary trio. But Bob was a greater songwriter and more charismatic performer, while Bunny had the best singing voice.

They were outgrowing each other and neither Peter nor Bunny was as driven as Bob was. The break-up freed up Bob to soar to soar to the highest heights.

I will however despute many of your opinions.
I knew all three (Bunny, Bob, and Peter) and as a young boy lived in Kingston, Jamaica when they roamed Trench town singing with Peter Tosh playing guitar. Complaints to my late father, Roy White(president Of The Jamaican Musician's Union) for Byron Lee's interference with Bob and Peter working on songs for Johnny Nash, among other things.
It's over fifty years but I'm still alive and much of what you referred is only half truths and non sense.
Lee Perry did rob them from the (music) albums they made with him(correct)
Bob, Peter, and Bunny still rehearsed together long after their so called breakup.
(After the Catch A Fire and Burning albums and even after Bob Marley and The Wailers 'Natty Dread album, they still performed together- National Stadium(with Third World and The Jacksons)among other places.
I could go on and on, however I believe all four participants were to blame for the break up.
Briefly Chris Blackwell for pushing and promoting Bob, over the other two.
Bunny for his reluctance in flying on a plane and touring overseas.
Peter for feeling slighted and not sticking with the Wailers over the advancements in his own career.
And most importantly Bob for not trying harder to hold the original Wailers together.
R.I.P. Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, and Neville Livingston.

Their is a documentary about Marley when Blackwell admitted with his own mouth He was the one responsible for the break up. He said bunny didn't want to tour. Peter wanted to tour. I do understand the pain of Peter Tosh and the misunderstanding of Bunny Wailer. Chris "White well" Blackwell was a good marketer and brand manager by all standards. He is the reason Bob Marley is synonymous with Reggae and a household name worldwide.
He was a great producer too. It was him who brought in Wally Badarou to play synths on the Night Nurse album.

All iconic bands have experienced this friction in one way or the other. Even the Beatles have had their share of issues. It is almost inevitable, in the music industry, when the corporate side of music thrusts itself between the true artistry. And no matter how profound each of the 3 individuals were (are), they were and are still at the end of the day, humans, who saw their lives transformed from poverty to Greatness. After that it is hard for anyone of us to keep it only all about the purity of the art. Just sayin. "One Love".

Bob Marley was not as stated in this video , " the most smartest of them all", in reference to Peter and Bunny. In my opinion Bob appears to be more single minded, easier to manipulate, very likely singled out due to his lighter melinated skin tone. Peter and Bunny was more than likely sidelined because of their highly melinated skin tones, and strength of character. Because no one with a musical ear can say Bob was the best singer, writter, musical arranger, musician more than Peter or Bunny, and then for Peter and Bunny to stand up behind Bob, which they did for many years. I adore all three of them but it's undeniable Bob has many more hit songs than Peter and Bunny combined. In my opinion, the debate is around musical output, not skin tone. Miles Davis' complexion is very dark, yet it didn't prevent him from being worshiped by jazz lovers around the globe and there are plenty more examples (Sizzla etc)

No sorry. If you read different first hand accounts of what happened - no one was pushed aside. Peter Tosh signed with Rolling Stones label. He had every opportunity for the same succes Bob had. Bunny, on the other hand, didn't like to fly and didn't enjoy touring.
The break up of the group is strictly because of Bunny wailer, now both Bunny and Peter had a lot of stones to throw, because of jealousy, and that's a shame, both of them perish in their own selfish ways.

Bob Marley was not as articulate as Peter Tosh, not even nearly. People who never lived in Jamaica during those years will never understand the phenomena of these three musicians. Bob is no greater than either of the other two in no way whatsoever. Bunny Wailer has produced three albums which can easily be claimed the best ever Reggae album ever, "Blackheart Man," "Rock & Groove" & "Liberation." That breakup was the best thing that could have happened for all three of them because they were able to express themselves in their individual way. Peter Tosh was the first artiste anywhere in the world to tackle the issue of apartheid in song with the track aptly entitled "Apartheid" on the "Equal Rights" album, another album which could be the bwst Reggaealbum ever produced. The Wailers wete not meant to stay together but the music each of them gave us since will continue to uolift souls all over the world. We should never forget that there were also Beverly Kelso & Junior Brathwaite, those names never seem to be mentioned in any discourse re The Wailers.

Well, "Blackheart man" is definitely ONE of the best reggae albums ever (which can also be said by several BMW records, by the way), but it remains a single shot that Bunny never managed to equal afterwards (although "Rock'n'Groove" is pretty good too, though not ground-breaking). And there definitely were several artists before Tosh who wrote anti-apartheid songs, so probably you should do some reading on the subject in order to get your facts straight... (instead, Tosh' "Apartheid" song was indeed the first one to use the word 'apartheid' in its title, whereas mainly South African artists, facing state oppression and censorship, had to pronounce themselves in more subtle ways)...
Whitout Blaccwell Bob Marley couldn't be King of Reggae.
