  • We fix the USB type-c but what else is wrong? There is still nothing on the display. Spoiler alert, it was the LCD ribbon cable connector. Lets fix it!

What temperature are you using when removing and installing the USB-C?

My hot air is usually set to 480c when removing and about 400c when installing. But the air temp and speed can vary and just takes a bit of practice to figure out the perfect combination.

      Whats wrong with them?

@@yetanotherconsolerepairchannel I was doing a shell swap on one of them, and the battery connector came off the board. Tried to get it fixed locally, but no dice. I even bought a new battery connector and battery.I know it’s a simple fix, but I don’t have the tools or skills to do it.
The other I got from Mercari, but it wasn’t working. The ribbon cable connecting the mother daughter boards was messed up. I got a new one, but I noticed the old one was burned at the connector on the motherboard. I’m not sure what else maybe wrong with it.

Get yourself a cheap hot air gun (something for hobbyists), but some good flux. Re-tinning the pads on the board with leaded solder along with the good flux will help tremendously when reflowing the new connector. Heat from the bottom of the board so you don't melt the connector. It just takes practice.
I never thought about buying broken or used consoles from Mercari, but I'm going to start now just to see what I can find!

So I tried the hot air gun and I wasn't able to fix it. It looks like the two of the pads are missing. I'm going to look for a local repair shop and see if they can take care of it.
