I was watching a video from Louis Rossman yesterday and the difference is style and quality of soldering techniques between him and this channel was amazing. Rossman was removing a surface mount capacitor from a Mac board and it was like he simply didn't know about heated tweezers! It was like he was using an iron tip that was three times the size of the cap he was trying to remove. Very messy. I've not done micro soldering myself except to learn I am no good at it. I'm also a radio ham and am trained in and can use a regular soldering iron with great results. Man! These two are like night and day. NorthridgeFix is MUCH better, so much tidier and cleaner... Good job dude.

blown filer is usually caused by usb-c port problem, always verify this first as some signals go directly from port to these chokes. Also after PI3USB replacement it is better to verify if the console also works in dock mode as this is what this chip is mainly for. It works in handheld mode even without PI3USB installed. May two cents based on my repairs

Any advice on what to try if one switch will work in dock mode, but another does not? Both will show the green light on the dock and charge, but only one displays to the screen. I have the switch's tv settings the same on both. I have tried multiple docks, multiple tv settings (720p 480p etc), but still no luck.

Alex, there are 2 possible boards in the switch depending on where it was made one has 4 larger filters by P13USB, the other has 5 smaller filters. I’ve run into this before and used 2 201 filters as well!
I believe it’s the US board that has 4 and the Japanese one has 5, but I don’t remember.

    Goes in 10th dimension 😂
    Love your channel !
I’m just getting into the hobby of electronic repair, i have a pretty good setup/tools.
My first project is a Nintendo switch lite with black screen, you can hear the audio from it when you turn it on but just can’t see the screen, wondering if something like you are fixing here is the issue.
I noticed the connector where the ribbon cable goes into from battery is missing the little snap in portion, do you sell those? I’ll be ordering parts from you

He has in the past, I was wondering if he would.
Thing is, it's not necessary for the repair. It would be an added bonus, but as long as the component makes a good connection it should be ok.
If he'd run a jumper you know there would have been some mask.

For us newbees: maybe explain how we can tell which are resistors, caps, fuses, filters etc. I'm use to traditional larger through hole with color bands or numbers printed. Also, I thought Caps are polarized? Positive negative sides. The tiny SMD caps seem to not be polarized? Ehy? Thanks.

How do you get rid of the bridges so easy, is it the soldering iron? I have the same flux and leaded solder, only thing i don't have is a great soldering iron. It's not bad but i believe it to not be great. I can't put so much solder on my iron without getting massive bridges no matter how hot I go it seems.

    Hello north ridge fix,
    Thanks for your video.
Can you tell me what kind of solder you're using before you solder a new chip?
    Thanks you

    • @Infiniti25
      @Infiniti25 3 года назад

Lead solder, it will lower the temperatures needed for solder to flow when he places the new part. Lead-free solder needs a higher temperature to melt so would place higher thermal stress on the new/replacement parts when they are being placed on the board.

Also depends on your hot air station and it’s quality to supply the heat it says it is supplying on the readouts. Might say 400C on the readout but might be more like 340C at the nozzle.
This is most likely to be true on cheap Chinese hot air stations and uncalibrated hot air stations.
