I recently landed a job as a Test Engineering Technician, I'm on the debug team doing full fault analysis on PCB's. Your videos are like gold they've helped a lot especially with confidence in de-soldering IC's.
"....and we are done! let's keep those bridges as decoration" 😂😂😂😂 I love your sense of humour, Alex. I am learning and having a nice time watching your videos 👍
Love to watch Your videos Alex.i have learned a Lot watching them. I'm microsoldering tech too. It's hard to work without schematic on the nint sw.what i do is when i have a working unit take a pic of the ic an surrounding área and make measurements of the caps around to have a referential values on future repairs.
Impressive videos. After de-soldering a chip what type of cleaning flux you use? It sort of looks milky on video. Also, how much it costs for a typical repair like this in the video?
Can I ask why the thermal camera you are using is not the same as the red one your selling. I was looking to buy the same one your using. The black one. I don't mean any disrespect. I have extreme respect for you but the red cameras look exactly like the cheep versions they use in car repair shops. Can you help me understand the difference between the black one you use and the red one? Thank you for everything you do. Your amazing at what you do!
My son & his friend mod these things. The stuff you can do with Nintendo consoles is unreal. They also sell modes wii's with thousands of games on them. The N64s have all the old games on them also. They are now messing with the Intelevisions that I introduced them to. People pay way more than these things are worth.
Alex, I am sure you have tried this but, for the record; have you ever scanned a QR code [ video @ 2:28] on a board just to see if a link to a board diagram, parts list, placement map or whatever returns? Probably goes nowhere, but I'm curious. Thanks.
It is kind of a serial number for the board. The QR code contains the same number printed on the label itself. Search online for nintendo switch board and see for your self.
Hey, just a heads up. I just filled out your online form to send in a laptop. The confirmation page has a section saying it is possible to upgrade to expedited service for $49. I know it's is $95, just wanted to give you a heads up.
Uhm...the sticker gave away liquid damage. Why assume M92T36 is ok? Why not giving it 15V to see if it is REALLY charging normally? And lastly, a full docking on TV is the best final test, before giving it back to the customer.
Do you have a trick for remembering the position on the chip on the board after you take it out to prevent from putting it back rotated at a 90 or 180 degree angle ?
i had a year old switch that just started to overheat, the fan stop working it seemed so replaced it but it keep overheating then also the joy cons woulnt charge docked, unsure what the issue was but sold it for parts and got a new one :\ worst was nintendo not wanting to warranty it or ask over 100 for fixing it, it was the mario kart version

I threw 370 degree air on the gpu chip of a mac 2012 and 4 micro components of the motherboard next to the gpu chip came loose, 2 are gone, what can I put in place to replace those that are missing? jumper? And the ones that I had to resolder, maybe I applied heat for a long time with the soldering iron and it could be that these are damaged, how to identify the component and change it for the right one?
I have a question about using the microscope for soldering. How do you have depth perception? How do you know when the iron is above the board exactly by just looking at the monitor? I tried with a cheap all-in-one microscope and this was my first problem immidiately.
"Practice and persistence" is your answer. Imagine losing one eye, you lose 3D perception immediately. Your brain will compensate after a while because of "use" (practice) and "necessity" (persistence).
Just like when people complain about mechanic shops charging diagnostic fees to find the problem. People don't understand the person working on that vehicle needs to get paid somehow. They spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on tools and equipment plus their schooling and maintaining licenses to work on vehicles, they're not going to do work for free
The boys spilled water on Switch recently and it first went crazy then died. So thoroughly drying it up didn't fix the problem, and now I know why. So just bought a replacement console which is a bit expensive. What is your price for Switch repair after water damage?
It looked like the chip lost it's magic smoke. Devices don't work with electricity, but with magic smoke, once the smoke is released it stops working. 🤣😂

"Flux is your friend" for sure. A lot like Alex! Awesome repair as always! Amazing how quickly you get to the issue and resolve it!
Loved the fist bump with the fan. Hope things like that make your day brighter when components want to play games.

That pink sticker is the first sign of liquid/water presence in a device. Normally that sticker is white with red dots.
The smile on your face when you finished the work 😃

Could using the thermal camera injecting voltage on this one saved you some time?🤔🤔
i think because it is not shorted, the thermal camera won't detect any hot spots...just my opinion...
The five spot patch is red. usually it is five red dots. on white square.
thx gonna enjoy another video of yours
"I hate it when the capacitors stick together."
"Sticking together is what good capacitors do!"
M92t36 broken is a very common issue, in percentage approx, how much of the non charging switches had broken m92?
be cool to see the actual size of the components. they look big under the scope but we know there tiny
Under that gruff exterior is a good guy.

The m92 had two bridges, if it worked then I guess you fixed them off camera, right?

peter brady said, "it sure sounds swell in the big house. "
How do you know what every component is? Have you studied the switch and everything or are you just guessing on the looks of them?
i think when a new console is released, he certainly buy one, open it and study it, like taking an update everytime
How liquid damage can be on 2 opposite sides of the board ?
The sticker was purple. Is not a sign of water?
