Thank you for the reminder but when I made the changes, I did click on APPLY first then OK. I am seeing the SHARED drive on my Windows 7 machine, but in the Windows XP machine, I am see only my desktop machine (where the SHARED drive resides) in the Entire Network/Microsoft Windows Network/Workgroup. It does not allow me to ADD the SHARED drive because it's NOT showing it.

I've watched several videos and 2 of yours now and I get this error The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred: You can't access this shared folder because your organization's security policies block unauthenticated guest access. These policies help protect your PC from unsafe or malicious devices on the network.... Please help I'm at wit's end trying to figure this out so my son and I can start a RUclips channel together... I was just wanting to share access instead of connecting and disconnecting externals for editing ....
@@waynethoms2801 Sharing to an XP can be done, but it's not easy... I worked for a company that had two old XP machines that they were too cheap to replace and had software that needed $$$$$ to update so they wanted me to share files between them... Super risky because you have to change SMB settings and XP basically has zero protection and if the machine is compromised everything is compromised.
After watching so many videos in how to use 1 external hard drive between 2 computers and not getting any response when I follow directions from their videos. I watch your video and I succeeded. Man you deserve more than million followers, this is the exact and most accurate video on this sharing issue. The share button was greyed out initially but following your method everything worked out just fine.

O!!! M!!! G!!! I've been struggling for a WEEK with my Windows 10 PC losing its sharing capabilities (probably after a Windows Update). The step I missed was SHARING WITH EVERYONE. I could see the folders, but I'd try to open them and was refused. Apparently Windows deleted all of my "Everyone" sharing options! AARUGH!!! Its strange. Everyone was already there in sharing and advanced. But re-applying everything to 'everyone' actually makes it show up in the network now. Strange! But! Thank you! This worked fantasticly
I was going crazy trying to get this to work. I figured all these steps it on my own minus the adding "everyone" user group. But my issue wasn't even that, i just need to reboot my desktop that's been running for months in and out of sleep lol. But this is a great guide and it was easy to follow. Cheers

That was very informative. Thank you for taking the time to make this video - it is going to save me so much time (that I have been wasting) from going back-and-forth between desktop and laptop. When Windows updated in August I lost WIFI on my desktop. I mean - WIFI no longer exists in Settings/Network and Internet/NO WIFI. Now under Status is Ethernet. I have not been able to scan or print since the middle of August!!! I have shut down Microsoft having access to either of my computers. I called Microsoft today (12-05-18) to once and for all get this problem fixed. During the call, it was dropped. I did not receive a return call - even though the representative had my # (it was the representative who called me - dropped me - and never returned the call). My respect for Microsoft and the employees has skyrocketed today. That is why I am so appreciative of the video you made for sharing drives from my desktop to my laptop. The laptop still identifies WIFI in Settings/Network and Internet/Status/WIFI/Ethernet.... I am going to try to connect to my printer through my laptop. It has not connected in these past three months, but you have inspired me that somehow there is a method to all this madness. Sincerely grateful, Matt

Good Video, but maybe you should mention that you need your main and secondary computers also enabled on a network, else you will find error that says access restricted, "please contact your network administrator", so the work around for this is to > click on folder (Explorer) > right click on This PC > Then Properties > On the left click on remote Settings > Now tick on "Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer" > Then just below that click on "Allow remote connections to this computer" also if you have Authentication level, click that. Again great video and thanks, keep up the good work ;)

another thing to note if you do not have a Microsoft account signed in on the laptop you want to access the files, your laptop will not discover the shared drive i can only access the drive on 1 user account which i find annoying, well sharing with 1 device is better than none, thanks again for the video.
Many thanks!! I've been trying for hours to fix an issue on my network where I could see the connected computers but I was not able to enter a whole shared disk, but only a "Users" shared folder. Simply adding this "everyone" type of user and giving all the perissions, at first it shown an ERROR message (something about security permissions could not be modified), to which I clicked "OK"; but then realized that the permissions were actually changed in "everyone". So, now I can send files across the network with no problems. Again, thanks a lot!

Not what exactly sure what was causing the problem because I had a number of things to change, including switching my network to private from public. I also changed the services settings on both PCs. Great job with this video. The updates and some other issues really borked my network setup and I put off trying to resolve them (and used other, worse fixes in the interim). Was able to get everything resolved and setup fairly nicely using your tips today in just about 20 minutes. Embarrassed to say, but somehow my publishing service had been disabled entirely the entire time.
very helpful, thank you. the critical part is that obscure 'Find Now' button [4:19] when trying to add Everyone to the drive access permissions. this is all so much more logical in Linux and you can control permissions properly, but sometimes one is stuck having to do it in Windows...
this saved me massive amount of time, thank you ! i already wasted a lot of time trying to do it unsuccessfully; now i did get some errors with some files while applying this "everyone" sestting (mostly system files I guess which are irrelevant, but had to press ok on all), but overall it works great!

Thank you this helped me a lot. I knew about the sharing thing but didn't know about the stupid security part. I miss homegroup a lot it was a easier way for people to network their files and printers that don't know about all of this. Microsoft should really show people how to share files, folder and printers in an alternate way if they change things. I was able to share my drive but couldn't access it from my other PC until I watched this and you showed the security part.

But some folders (namely "Programs" and "Users\###") are impossible to open :( It says I am not allowed to, I don't get why, I thought that sharing the root folder (C:\) would open all doors inside of it... but nope. Thanks so much! This video has been a HUGE help! ... I'm not sure if someone else already posted this - but if you have VPN software installed (I am using NordVPN), you will need to turn this off; otherwise, it does not allow you to set your network to private.
Thanks. My Plex server wasn't playing nice with my network connected storage for reasons I still haven't figured out, so I decided to just connect the drive directly to my server, but obviously I still want to be able to easily access it from other computers.
Once again thanks for the video ! I had issues with getting the drive to share. Kept giving me errors access denied sort of thing. And before your video I had been playing around with all sorts of settings thinking it would work but it was the same error after error. So after reverting all settings back to normal I went with your settings and it still didn't work. After more research I found out it was a ownership issue.. Doh ! So after changing ownership from system to my admin account it worked perfectly. Thanks for the help :)
Awesome! I've noticed this usually happens if you have an OS on one drive and save files to another drive. Happens to me all the time when I reinstall windows.

Some of those inaccessible folders have probably not yet indexed. Or you may have individual permission settings for those folders.

Thanks so much! This video has been a HUGE help! ... I'm not sure if someone else already posted this - but if you have VPN software installed (I am using NordVPN), you will need to turn this off; otherwise, it does not allow you to set your network to private.

Thanks. My Plex server wasn't playing nice with my network connected storage for reasons I still haven't figured out, so I decided to just connect the drive directly to my server, but obviously I still want to be able to easily access it from other computers.

Once again thanks for the video ! I had issues with getting the drive to share. Kept giving me errors access denied sort of thing. And before your video I had been playing around with all sorts of settings thinking it would work but it was the same error after error. So after reverting all settings back to normal I went with your settings and it still didn't work. After more research I found out it was a ownership issue.. Doh ! So after changing ownership from system to my admin account it worked perfectly. Thanks for the help :)
Awesome! I've noticed this usually happens if you have an OS on one drive and save files to another drive. Happens to me all the time when I reinstall windows.
