I love this movie, sure it ain't From Russia With Love or Casino Royale but Die Another Day is damn entertaining.
The 3 worst Bond movies. Maybe in contention with Spectre.
Die Another Day is entertaining only up until he goes to Cuba. Then it's rapidly downhill and jam-packed with horrible acting, cringeworthy tv commercial style photography, some of the very worst action sequences of the franchise and generally drops the ball on the whole story. Spectre, however, is the single worst Bond movie ever made, for a whole host of reasons, but the crowning turd is that it's downright boring and depressing too. What makes that EVEN worse is the fact they somehow managed to do that with a revival of SPECTRE and Blofeld.
IMO, they should have got rid of those two hack fanboy writers, Purvis & Wade, after Die Another Day. They're awful. They've had much better writers coming in to re-write their scripts from Casino Royale. Even in Royale, you can tell exactly the BS they wrote with all those overly bloated and pedestrian action sequences trying to pad out Fleming's story. A lot of lameness hidden under Casino Royale's excellent direction, acting, the foundation of Ian Fleming's novel and also Paul Haggis' redrafts.

@@jonburrows8602 are u for real? Quantum of solice was a legit good movie, on the other hand I think casino royale was the boring one, the villain knew exactly who he was from the beggining and they was just trying to out do each other on a game of cards for 2 and a half hours. Boring.
@@JV-qh7ix From Russia With Love is a different tone, almost a "road movie", but it's definitely a classic. The boat chase at the end was not something you had seen before in movies. You need to put each Bond film in its context because today it's easy to "outdo" the past by adding more action and special effects. You have to look at what any movie brings new. Die Another Day is more (apart from a couple "The Matrix" editing effects indicative of its period) a compendium of every Bond films to celebrate Bond anniversary, so for the audience it's a play of finding what element is taken from which past Bond film. The most derivative and perfect Bond film to end an era before turning into a Bourne Identity-influenced era (much to my chagrin).

Die Another Day is a classic! If we forgive the slightly gratuitous last scene and the host of online critics who ruin it for us with all their complaints, we have one of the most memorable and ENTERTAININGLY escapist Bond films ever made. Pierce Brosnan is always superb isn’t he? Phenomenal in this role.

This crazy-ass movie is far more inspired than Tomorrow Never Dies and World is Not Enough.

Pierce Brosnan is my favorite Bond because of Goldeneye and this movie. Tomorrow Never Dies and World is Not Enough never did anything for me.

The best James Bond ever
This was the type of Bond film to take the franchise into the 21st century. I was thrilled with this movie seeing it in the cinema, it gave the producers a chance to go crazy and through in some mad but still believable action. It was after the release of this and the release of the Bourne Identity that it was decided to take it back to a more gritty style, because the Bourne Identity was emerging as the next action franchise and it was important went back to that style after they gave us a CGI action treat with Die Another Day.
Austin Powers happened in between Die Another Day and Casino Royale. Daniel Craig said that was the reason they had to go the Jason Bourne route.

It is just his honest opinion.
My fave Bond is Roger Moore but Brosnan has a special place in my heart as well - all the way back to his Remington Steele days on TV.

This is actually one of the best trailers ever...
I know that the most recent Bond guy was Daniel Craig. Have respect for him as an actor,however Pierce Bronson was my favorite Bond. This is his last film. Regardless of what everyone else says I say he nailed it. Seriously it's a good movie.

Horribly underrated bond movie, if you want to criticise it for being “unrealistic”, there’s the door, you can go watch Craig’s movies. But don’t expect to have as much fun as we do.

Interesting and innovative! The plot, the fight, the technology an the plot were all impressive and innovative. It keeps the adrenaline up and its a good James Bond movie to watch time and time again.

Die Another Day is hugely under-rated.
It really bugs me that this often gets critical slack yet the slow-moving For Your Eyes Only often ranks higher. I have just seen a list that ranks this last and On Her Majesty's Secret Service first!
All subjective of course but …..
Consider what Die Another Day has-
- A thrilling plot with the North Korea situation (NK nuclear tensions being topical news throughout the 21st Century) and Bond getting tortured in the intro
- A catchy, memorable theme tune
- Original locations- Iceland and North Korea never used in a Bond film before
- One of the most-stand out Bond girls in Jinx
- Great fight scenes and action sequences but not over the top (the opening scene was superb as was the car chase on ice)
- Miranda Frost and Toby Stephens. Frost the exquisite femme fatale portrayed by the beautiful and talented Rosamund Pike (I confess partiality here) and Stephens as the dodgy entrepreneur showman- sort of liker a bad boy Richard Branson
I guess aspects of the plot seemed far fetched (as with Moonraker) but I consider it very under-rated. Definitely in my Top 8 Bond films
For Your Eyes only was such a better film, Moore's best. Sounds like you just like mindless action and no in-depth characterizations.
I do not think Die Another Day is the worst, there is a lot of dynamism that I enjoy and the villain is crazy and I like that, but On Her Majesty Secret Service is the best Bond ever. The final fight is the best Bond villain fight (it lasts more than 30 seconds) and the tensions in the ski chases and car chases keep you in seat, and the story is perfect. Today they would film the scenery better but for the times, the sceneries in the Alps were fabulous.

it's such a shame that this film was a bit of a let down because we could have more from Pierce and more sequels instead we got the reboots with Daniel Craig for the next film and onwards

In my opinion, Bond literally died when the executive producers and casting directors chose Craig as the new bond. None of his movies has the elements that made Bond become famous or popular but looks more than another typical action movie, to the point i feel like i'm watching the bourne trilogy or something like that.
Thomas Arnemann - I like Skyfall and Spectre but I found Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace very dull movies........but yeah I kind of want Bond movies to be a bit more cheesy again, thats what made them so good back then, honestly we dont have enough cheesy stuff anymore, everyone seems to thing everything has to be dull, dark, serious and stuff.......

Pierce Brosnan and Craig were my two favs despite one being silly and one being serious
Peirce Brosnan's Bond was serious and mean when it was needed. He was charming, suave, awesome manner of delivering his dialogues! Craig's bond hardly smiles and is always brooding. Craig is a good actor in the other films but he just too boring to be Bond!
People conflate the actors with the films too much; Brosnan doesn't play the character as "silly", even if the film around him is risible (as is the case with Die Another Day).
An inverted example of this is the so-called 'reassessment' of George Lazenby's single outing as Bond. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is a great piece of filmmaking, yet the idea that Lazenby is actually a good actor is ridiculous; he's stiff and utterly out of his depth in the part, which is the one thing -- a massove thing -- that brings an otherwise great Bond film down. With Connery in the role, it would be seen by far more people as the best Bond film.
Yet, bizarrely, many people seem to think that giving credit to OHMSS as an overall film automatically absolves Lazenby's performance. It's illogical.
With Brosnan, again, he played the character a great deal of the time as a cold presence; even his delivery of the one-liners, though adept, often has a nasty edge to it.
Yet people see a movie like this and automatically conflate Brosnan's performances as Bond with it. I think that's very much under-selling and misconstruing what Brosnan actually did in the role.
I love all James Bond movies, so that's all I have to say about that.

Yeah. Rewatching some of the Bond trailers. This movie is pretty underrated. The gadgets were too silly, but the action scenes were still really enjoyable to watch.

Die Another Day is a film which is trying to do too much. The opening is fantastic and should have provided the basis for the rest of the film. We should have seen a film that showed Bond with PTSD, convulsing at each and every touch, on a revenge plot for Zao (and/or an escape from North Korea rather than a trade). The Iceland half of the film is so removed from what comes before it it’s utterly bizarre. Note how this trailer emphasises that first third. Because it’s amazing.
The biggest problem with this film is that it's systemic to early 2000s action movies with their over reliance in EXTREEEEEEEEME action set pieces and dodgy CGI special effects like it's competing with XXX.
I watched it for the first time in ages the other day, and have to say I liked it more than I thought I would. I think Spectre is the worst Bond film, but Die Another Day was much better than I remembered it being
