Update: it's been a few years, the neighbors next door loved it so much they moved away, probably to sail the seas and live their dreams of a pirate life, the other neighbors loved it so much they called the cops to come over and listen, now the cops are taking me away, probably so I can play the song for them at the jail

I like how the lyrics makes it sound like they just felt guilty about what they did. Captain Morgan put it in their heads that his vengeance hung over them, and they just couldn't stop thinking about it until they longed for the release of death.

Not sure why I randomly remembered Alestorm today, but listening to a bunch of them again now. This was always my favorite song of theirs
Listened to that song while being stationary in a psychiatry. Got me through some rough seas.
I almost feel like a deeper meaning in this song is that you should go through life without fear. We will all "dance the hempen jig" some day (maybe not literally), so "take another swig." Enjoy life, live it all, take no regrets, for the afterlife awaits.

When I was little, my dad had this album and this was one of my favourite songs on it. Every time I hear this, I can remember trying to sing along with my squeaky little four year old voice and dad laughing.

I've had half a pint of Rum on 2 occasions. It didn't end well either time :D Pirates / Navy Officers would have actually been drinking "grog" by the pint, which was watered down Rum, sometimes with added lime and sugar syrup, intended to keep them hydrated more, while rationing the alcohol. That's how I remember it anyway when I was a pirate in the 1700's

That sword wielded by the pirate in the picture. It’s a type of sword called a “rapier”. They are designed to maximize thrusting lethality. But unlike a smallsword, rapiers have sharpened edges. This lets them cut, although not as well as a sword meant for that purpose. One good thrust with a rapier, and unless you’re fighting Wolverine or Deadpool the enemy is done for.
