@@HYPERxSONICxFANx2012 imma be real with you bro, i dont think the switch can handle the game as is. not a diss i have one myself but it pretty much has the same power as a ps3 and you know how that ran back then.
Sega: don't worry about the old games, we'll just copy and paste levels from them into Frontiers for you rather than doing an actual remaster. Seriously though, between them putting out the same Greatest Hits of the 16-bits games for the billionth time and now there's talk of Lost World getting a remaster, its almost as if Sega are purposefully ignoring the period between 1998-2009, even though there's a wealth of games they could be pulling from both 2D and 3D.
I should add that the HD version of Sonic Unleashed is on Xbox One and the next gen Xbox consoles via "backwards compatibility" (it's just officially made emulation for Xbox 360 and OG Xbox) and that version has a 60fps patch enabled by default on the next gen consoles, making it the definitive Sonic Unleashed experience.
They did the same with generations, but generations is definitely better on PC. Also there are the xbox 360 and PS3 ports of the sonic adventure games which aren't too bad.
this is true but i also think that this video was made with the idea of running all these games on pc through emulation, as i don't think he mentions any console or official emulators or fangames that try to replicate the original game
I absolutely Sonic Unleashed. But sadly, no one talks about the extra DLCs. Xbox store has 6 DLCs for Sonic Unleashed and they add a few new mechanics and interesting levels to the game. They're really underrated since I don't see anyone mentioning them. I hope if Unleashed gets a PC release, SEGA adds those expansion levels.
The HD version of Sonic Unleashed has a subtitle error: In the cutscene "To the Surface," which plays after the final boss, Chip says "Sonic, you must live." The subtitles in the SD version are fine, but in the HD version, they read "Sonic, you have to live."

@@Cifesk Technically speaking so are all the classic console versions. They're "abandonware" / "old version" in the same vein as the PC release, except the difference is that you are more likely to obtain a physical copy for a console than for PC (and not to mention that some console versions have been re-released digitally).
@@Cifesk oh dang, well I was interested in the Gens3D (Guess I'm just that guy 😎) didn't even know Lost World had a 3DS version. Also something else you could've mentioned for Sonic 06 is that there are tons of codes out there that can truly improve the experience even further with Xenia.
@@Cifesk you can buy old pc physical games. its just sometimes hard to get them running on newer systems, and they have limitations like framerate caps and resolutions and need patches. also once you hit the late 2000s early 2010s you tend to have issues with cd keys and online activation like dark void had a pc version that was delisted and the physical version had an activation limit so you just have to emulate the console version or pirate it
@@Cifesk Since we are talking preservation and comparing the versions, I think that it would've been good to mention that SADX version (available on Steam, btw) is arguably worse than SA1. Yes, it runs at higher frame-rate and has a couple models with increased polygon count, but many aspects of the game suffered in the porting process, such as lighting and textures. But, there's a Dreamcast Conversion mod created by fans that combines the two into a definitive version of that game, you get the fancy graphics of SA1 and the increased frame-rate of DX.
So, anybody else click this thinking it was going to talk about all the available options to buy these games on modern hardware like consoles or PC? This series desperately needs a 3D collection. Games like Heroes, Unleashed, Shadow the Hedgehog, and even an upgraded (and dare I say fixed) version of 06 have not been preserved on modern hardware at all. I would happily buy some of these games on Steam especially if they were Steam Deck compatible.
Personally from my testing of Unleashed on RPCS3, I'm getting about the same performance you are getting in the video at 1080p internal resolution with a 12900K and a 3080 Ti. On Windmill Isle, I am probably getting around 35-40fps. There's a place where you run through chairs and a table and it drops to around 15fps. I haven't tried Xenia, but if definitely looks like a smoother experience.
It depends on your i9-12th gen model. Earlier models have AVX 512 while latest ones have the support of this set of instructions being removed by Intel. Being said, I dont know if the i7-10700KF that I have support it ?
An addendum for Unleashed: Crashing is an issue that only happens if you're not using Vulkan. Not a lot of advancements have been made in the last year as far as I can tell, but the settings necessary to get the game functioning have become more commonly known. Using a resolution patch to upscale the game however causes Vulkan to break, which is a caveat. And collectables won't be visible (though the glow they make will be, so it won't negatively impact gameplay.) Currently, you can play Unleashed on Xenia just fine all the way through with no crashes though. There have also been mods created to improve performance and tweak some visual elements.
Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle are actually downgrades of the Dreamcast versions. While they add many great features such as 60fps and new modes, it makes the game(s) look TERRIBLE. The game looks like an ugly mess, missing reflection effects and new textures which are less colourful and at a lower resolution than on the Dreamcast. I can get the GameCube needing these changes due to being in some aspects less powerful than the Dreamcast, but my problem is how they made it so every port they made would base these versions, causing the community to not even recognise the original and say that the adventure games didn’t age well with the stuff the GameCube ports added, mainly targeting towards SA1. There are mods on Steam that do in my opinion, make the games look even better than the original though and it restores the beauty of the games.
If it looks terrible or not is debatable, most people probably don't even know that the ports look different from the original version, ig that's why most people think SA1 is really buggy for example I personally I use the mod that restores the Dreamcast look for SA1 on Steam I don't really care about SA2 so yeah
Gonna quickly pop in here and say that the 3DS version of Generations works perfectly fine on emulator. As for Lost World 3DS, haven't tried it, but my guess is that it'll probably run fine too
You can unlock the framerate with hacks for Sonic Boom, makes it far more pleasing and playable than the original, but be warned, there's a very specific passage early on just after you release the big bad where you can't proceed at higher framerates as you fall through the world. Just switch to 30 for awhile if that happens.
Why don't cover the old games on PC? Sonic 3 & Knuckles Collection, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Riders, Sonic R, Sonic Mega Collection, etc. Those olds console games can't be bought in most ocassions either. You could've talked about compatibility in modern OS of sorts.

You missed Sonic Lost World (even if that has a PC release, so does Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic R, and many more). I'd also be interested to learn how the various PC releases/ports that SEGA has released over the years runs on modern hardware...
if you have bluetooth and a USB wii sensor bar (or 2 candles) you can use the wii remote on dolphin, i've done it before and it works great honestly. it's easier than configuring a controller.
You could've mentioned that Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2 have native ports on steam on windows. Because it's native (not emulation), it never drops under 60FPS with a modern PC although the ports are chaotic.. But modders basically fixed them 👍
man emulation nowadays is so much better when I was a little kid trying to play ds games with a really awfull 2006 pc, not only the quality of life improvement a game can get, but of course, preservation it for the next generations, discs and cartridges will eventually fail. But recently I got my childhood wii back up and running, got a hdmi adapter and I'm still having a blast with it, I love playing sonic colors in actual hardware tho, it's just that nostalgia blast all over!
Thankfully unlike Nintendo, SEGA does at least try to archive their legacy content for the most part, and do try to make them available, and of course with fan mods, has been preserved and enhanced beyond belief adding more replay ability with fan additions
I'm a sonic fan but I really don't see any value in 2D sonic games, I allways liked and prefered the 3D ones more, better looks better gameplay + more freedome
Two different game designs. 2d isn't "better" than 3d and vice versa, the two things are completely different and can be both enjoyable. If you don't see "value" in 2d games, you actually live in another reality lol, 2d is everywhere in videogames.
maybe im stupid im something but I thought this video was going to look at every sonic game and talk about how accessible everygame is instead of just talking about emulaters
SEGA doesn't give a quarter of a fuck about preservation unless it's the same 30 Genesis games they've been porting for 30 years playing through bad emulation, and now Sonic doesn't even have that. I'm amazed we have such a cohesive collection, but of course it's 90% unofficial.
What would be the recommended settings for emulating Sonic Heroes and Shadow the hedgehog on dolphin because they run pretty poorly on my computer. It might be a hardware issue, but Sonic Unleashed on Xenia runs just fine for me.
Unfortunately while you don't condone piracy until companies get better at keeping their games easily available it'll always be a thing 😔 And by get better I mean actually give a damn about doing it across the board
honestly, the better question is how has the Fans improved them, I get conservation, but the Fans and others have made mods that outright improved them or flatout remade them like 06 with P-06, heck, even Black Knight is better played on Dolphin because the controls are easy to map with a controller (not saying pirate), but yea and after Colors Ultimate and Origins, I don't trust them to remake any old or touch older Sonic titles because they'll possibly mess it up
The Gamecube ports SA2 Battle and SA1DXm both have broken ighting features. The lighting is infinitely better and more dynamic on Dreamcast or modded pc. A big enough difference that its simply not worth it to play the story mode on Gamecube.
@@Cifesk I know it's list media but I see people post videos all the time of people saying they aren't going to talk about it in the video and that just kills me because a mobile 3D Chao garden sounds like the coolest thing ever and I think SEGA should make a Good Friend Chao remake for modern phones
i should add, Project 06 runs flawlessly for me on my old mid range pc. even though it isn't complete at the moment work is still being done on it with numerous quality of life fixes, bug & glitch patches.
I mean it’s fine that these games run on emulators but I think some serious work should be put into making convincing crt shaders as that’s the type of tv they were meant to be played on. The pixel perfect look is not how it’s supposed to look.
If your PC has a powerful CPU that supports AVX-512 (like the Intel Alder Lake CPUs, particularly the i7-12700K and i9-12900K), you can get a more stable performance with Unleashed on RPCS3, closer to a constant 60fps Even better if you use the patches. No AMD CPUs currently on the market support AVX-512, but the upcoming Ryzen 7000 (Zen 4) series will. Oh and you forgot to mention the two arcade games, SegaSonic The Hedgehog and Sonic The Fighters. Those run well on MAME.

There's a youtuber called "Pariah695" and they have a video going over the best way to play all of these games you mentioned in this video ruclips.net/video/8X-2nclxYh4/видео.html (linky!~) If there's anything more I wish you would have done, is gone over some more specifics like what specifically has been upgraded in these ports saying "True widescreen and res-bump" (Paraphrased) was kinda lacking, I'd have loved to hear what kinda crazy things happened in the process of preserving these games, I think that's why the Unleashed portion of your video is my favorite part, since you actively talk and discuss the developments that are being made to preserve that game. :) Sum it all up, great video! Lacking some details but, that's my only real critique. Presentation is really good, and your voice work is fantastic!
I am aware of this and have tons of comments pointing it out I guess you just notice it if you've played the Dreamcast version, the DX version is just fucked up in general in comparison
unleashed rpcs3 is honestly better if you want to beat the game fully, xenia for revisiting stages. rpcs3 crashes rarely, and xenia sometimes needs skyths build to be stable

You missed Sonic Lost World (even if that has a PC release, so does Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic R, and many more).
I'd also be interested to learn how the various PC releases/ports that SEGA has released over the years runs on modern hardware...
you forgot one thing, sonic generations 3ds. which on citra runs completely perfectly
I think I didn't cover it on purpose
Sonic Adventure DX unfortunately was a pretty bad port the lighting and collision were broken
bro your English is really good. All you need now is a better microphone, the quality of the videos would get a major boost.
if you have bluetooth and a USB wii sensor bar (or 2 candles) you can use the wii remote on dolphin, i've done it before and it works great honestly. it's easier than configuring a controller.
Sonic Boom is surprisingly fun on the Steam deck, granted you get one hour and a half of battery life but it's fine
Very fixe video cifesk 👍 este e os bonus videos têm sido bons, agora estou á espera do de Unleashed. Espero que fales bem da versão SD
Boas rei, obrigadíssimo
Tou a trabalhar no do Unleashed agora
🙏
Se viste o vídeo do 06 sabes que a deal não é falar bem ou mal dos jogos ahahah
Hd és melhor
This whole time i though sonic unleashed was completely unplayable on pc, guess ill have to try it.
You could've mentioned that Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2 have native ports on steam on windows. Because it's native (not emulation), it never drops under 60FPS with a modern PC although the ports are chaotic.. But modders basically fixed them 👍
The point of the video wasn't to mention the PC versions, although I wanted to briefly cover them but ultimately forgot
apart from Sonic Riders Zero Gravity, Sonic Unleashed for PS2 is the best blue blur game for the sony console
man emulation nowadays is so much better when I was a little kid trying to play ds games with a really awfull 2006 pc, not only the quality of life improvement a game can get, but of course, preservation it for the next generations, discs and cartridges will eventually fail.
Hold up there's a sonic bowling game? 😂
Imagine trying to bash Sonic Pocket Adventure, the only good 8 bit sonic game
It's good, but imagine saying it's better than Triple Trouble.
maybe im stupid im something but I thought this video was going to look at every sonic game and talk about how accessible everygame is instead of just talking about emulaters
They are all accessible pretty much to the same degree because of emulation
@@Cifesk not for me. i have to spend $1000+ just to play them again
Esse sotaque não me engana ahah, bom video.
Obrigado rei

@@Cifesk quase me enganou! lol
Great video cifesk! do you wanna do a manhunt with me? I'll be amy!
@@RachidWasTaken Ahahahahhahaa
Doesn't even show up for review for me
Just censor some words and see if it doesn't block it
How did you get the text on the thumbnail to look like that?
Unfortunately while you don't condone piracy until companies get better at keeping their games easily available it'll always be a thing 😔
And by get better I mean actually give a damn about doing it across the board
honestly, the better question is how has the Fans improved them, I get conservation, but the Fans and others have made mods that outright improved them or flatout remade them like 06 with P-06, heck, even Black Knight is better played on Dolphin because the controls are easy to map with a controller (not saying pirate), but yea
and after Colors Ultimate and Origins, I don't trust them to remake any old or touch older Sonic titles because they'll possibly mess it up
The Gamecube ports SA2 Battle and SA1DXm both have broken ighting features. The lighting is infinitely better and more dynamic on Dreamcast or modded pc. A big enough difference that its simply not worth it to play the story mode on Gamecube.
HOW MANY TIMES ARE PEOPLE GONNA TEASE GOOD FRIEND CHAO I WANT TO SEE IT SO IF YOU HAVE IT POST A 10 MINUTE VIDEO OF THE GAME
Ahahaha I saw it on wikipedia and I was like "wait"
I only found an image of it on the Sonic wiki, I think it's just lost media at this point
@@Cifesk I know it's list media but I see people post videos all the time of people saying they aren't going to talk about it in the video and that just kills me because a mobile 3D Chao garden sounds like the coolest thing ever and I think SEGA should make a Good Friend Chao remake for modern phones
@@Harmony270 I actually didn't know it was mentioned that much lmao
Yeah I agree it would be very cool, let's hope it happens one day
🙏
i should add, Project 06 runs flawlessly for me on my old mid range pc. even though it isn't complete at the moment work is still being done on it with numerous quality of life fixes, bug & glitch patches.
I mean it’s fine that these games run on emulators but I think some serious work should be put into making convincing crt shaders as that’s the type of tv they were meant to be played on. The pixel perfect look is not how it’s supposed to look.
How PS2 have bad Textures & Low Quality SFX's and they sold +100 Million Units ????????????????
Transferring saves however, that is really hard you need to use an external program which really sucks
4:04 the gameplay is just about in sync with the other emulator, i couldnt have been the only one memorized
It was on purpose ahahaha
@@Cifesk yeah but down to a tee? mad respect
How are the PC releases of these games though? I know that SA2, Generations, and Forces are all on PC but I don't know anything about the others
I didn't mention those because they are in the category of weird spinoffs I mentioned haha
Sonic the Fighters maybe not so much but yeah
Sonic Heroes hás a Native PC game that needs no fidling tô work on Modern machines and its the overall best version(also Sonic Riders)
Great video! I liked what you had to say on some of these things. :)
Sum it all up, great video! Lacking some details but, that's my only real critique. Presentation is really good, and your voice work is fantastic!
Why would you need to emulate Sonic Heroes, if there exists a PC version?
I used to have a disc, but it's also can be downloaded somewhere
Well the issue with the classics is the availability... They are forcing people to buy Sonic Origins...
Some sonic games like 3d blast and heroes did get a pc port, so did sonic generations but that's about it
Sonic Pocket Adventure rocks, that's why I would want to play it
Forgot to add that Sonic Riders has a PC port that's still floating around the web
good news. Sonic free riders is now playable with a controller
só com o sotaque dá para notar q és português xd
ahaha ya
sonic heroes and sonic r are free now because they are on myabandonware in the free section
The Classics, SA2, and Gens are the only really well preserved imo
The ps2 version of shadow is not locked to 30fps its unlocked.
So how do get emulators to play games anyways? Is it a download?
Chris Chan ain't gonna be happy about this cluster fuck.
3:23 actually the textures of sonic Adventure dx are worst in the dx version
When are we getting a Cybershell bounds video?
I can’t tell if the voice is an AI voice or if it’s your real voice
Let me give out a little correction: The GameCube version of Adventure actually has worse textures.
I am aware of this and have tons of comments pointing it out
I guess you just notice it if you've played the Dreamcast version, the DX version is just fucked up in general in comparison
Why not mention sonic 3 air or the retro engine decomps?
What about the physical pc version of sonic heroes I have one
There a lot of patches and fixed for the Xenia version of 06
6:42
you mean happens in xbox 360 but not on xenia

unleashed rpcs3 is honestly better if you want to beat the game fully, xenia for revisiting stages. rpcs3 crashes rarely, and xenia sometimes needs skyths build to be stable
Skyth's build is obsolete now
Using Xenia Canary is the best option you have currently
