Super helpful video. The new PetSafe doors have brackets to bolt them to the door frame, which makes it possible to securely use the door lock instead of the modified floor-level pin lock they include with the product. However, the kits still contain the pin lock and don't mention options for connecting to the normal lock. I'm glad you covered that in this video.

What kind of screws for securing. I don’t want to drill holes in my frame
Got the door in fairly easily and the concept is great. Now the dogs can get in and out when they want to but the best chance for me to get in and out is also through the dog door. I’m not a huge guy, by no means skinny either but the doors just don’t open far enough. Even the guy in this video had to turn sideways to get through. Do the make a narrower model or any other tips I’m not thinking of?
They just take up space, there is no way around it. If it is a real issue and you can't live with it, consider an Autoslide or a Pet Door Guys window replacement. The Autoslide opens and closes the whole door to let pets out. The Pet Door guys replaces the glass in your slider and puts the dog door in the glass. Door opens and closes all the way, and the dog gets through, and the door and panel gap issues are all solved.

Thanks for these instructions. I've returned this door due to lack of any information on how to install it (plus the fact that the door insert was missing from the package). My window is vinyl and not aluminum. But I note that the pet door is for aluminum doors only. Is there a reason why I shouldn't install this door on my vinyl sliders? Thank you!

I have had a pet door for 5 years or more. I use a 2x4 to block the door. My problem is that constant placement and removal of the board pulls the weatherstripping off that side of the door. I have tried double sided tape. double sided weatherstrip like the original. Duct tape. Packing tape. I have used cleaners prior to applying the tapes. I keep coming back to the board pulls the weatherstrip loose then down. I have one last idea to use construction adhesive unless someone has another Idea.
You could definitely use one of the Wedgit bars. Comes with mounts that you could attach to the weatherstrip and it wouldn't pull it down because you wouldn't be dropping it in from a height and the weight of the Wedgit is a lot less than a 2x4. www.petdoorstore.com/pet-doors/wedgit-better-than-a-charlie-bar/

Foam adhesive weatherstrips on the sides is a good idea and you should use it. The Fast Fit in the video comes with enough for one side of the panel, the more expensive Thermo Panel 3e comes with enough for both sides. Just need to fix gaps at top or bottom with the wheel adjustment rather than adding more weather stripping.

If the pet door frame arrives bowed, then you roll up a towel and slam the door on it to straighten it out. I'd have to find one that was bowed or take one apart and reassemble it badly to demonstrate it, which I'm not inclined to do. Bowed frames don't happen very often. You can tell if you have that problem because the slider will hit the pet door in the middle but not at the top or bottom.
After adjusting the slider shell to make the gap uniform, what do I use to plug up the gap??
The door should come with foam weather strip that you can apply to the side of the pet door. Higher end ones come with enough weather strip for both sides so you can get a better seal against the wall. You can use foam weather strip tape from the hardware store if you don't have any. Get the softest you can find.
i am trying to install one of these but I have a question. The bracket that the lock latches onto that is located inside the track sticks out so the dog door frame does not slide into the channel flush. Same issue on the other side where the handle and locking mechanism is. The door does not close flush because its hitting the frame of the dog door. Any suggestions?
Remove the latch from the jamb and lock the door with the generic lock that came with the pet door.
Do you have or know of a video that shows how to remove the bottom section to make from floor to bottom of flap shorter? My dog has short legs and the opening is too tall for him to jump through. Thank you in advance.
Not for this door. There really isn't an easy way to do this on the Fast Fit. You would have to move the pet door down and move the spacer under the flap up. Would require drilling the holes for the spacer in the right place. On the older models the pet door holes have to be redrilled as well, I can't recall if you need to redrill on the newer style.

And what if I load it from the top first, and swing in from the outside, and it STILL can't clear the lower lip? (About 1/4" off)? I'm considering using a hacksaw to cut the top down a smidge to it'll clear, but I'd prefer not to if I don't have to.
If you have an Ideal Fast Fit or a Thermo Panel they have about 3/4" that you can cut off the top. Not sure about other brands.

No, I didn't want to drill holes in the door just to show how to install. It's pretty easy; two holes to mount the lock to the back of the sliding door, one hole into the stationary frame for the pin to insert into to lock the door.

What do I do if the panel is approximately 1/8-1/4 inch too tall?
If you're using a Fast Fit or a Thermo Panel there is a simple solution that won't require returning and exchanging. These doors have an empty slot at the top that you can cut down with a jigsaw. If you don't have the tools just find a local metal shop and take it down there and they'll have it done in 2 minutes. Very simple.

Our dog door seems too tall for our door, although the measurements are correct. Is there a way to fix this?
If it's an Ideal Fast Fit or a Thermo Panel the top piece that slides up and down to adjust the height is shaped like an H when viewed from the side. You can cut down to the crossbar of the H, about 3/4" on the Fast Fit and I think a little more on the Thermo Panel. The plastic caps in the Fast fit corners just pull right out.

The original sliding door lock won't work. The various panels come with different types of generic locks. The one in the video uses a pin lock, another popular model comes with a clamp on lock that attaches to the track behind the door. What is the measurement of your sliding glass door?
This particular door in the video is 80" tall, but we have panels for the shorter 76 or 77 inch doors, and also for the 96" taller models, and we can have some doors built custom for oddball heights.
Yeah good video but he left out the part that explains how to fit the door if the dog door is to talll even when the top is compressed how do you fix that (short of using a grinder) ? oh they dont telll you that? dud!!
On this Fast Fit door or the Thermo Panel you can take the top off and cut about 3/4" off. I've done it with a band saw, could probably use a jigsaw as well. Just tape up the part really well so that when you cut it you don't scratch it by dragging the shoe of the saw across the metal. With the other common pet door by Pet Safe there is no room to cut.

If it's this kind of door, should be just loosening the knobs, lifting the bottom of the door up, and swinging the bottom out.

Sometimes you have to do that yes. Need a flat surface for the pet door to sit against, so if it's in the way then remove.

Loosed up the knobs, grab the sides and compress the spring loaded top, then swing the bottom of the panel out and remove.
A bit pricey at almos $200 for me at least. But great concept.
We use wooden bifold doors from habitat for humanity RESTORE $5-10 with modifications...
