This is so nice and just what we need! Wish you lived near us (Texas Panhandle) and I would gladly pay you to make one since we are not handy and do not have the proper tools. Thanks for the great video!
Very nice work. Make sure you keep the door clean. It’s amazing how fast Mary Ellen, my Golden Retriever, managed to quickly cover my first dog door in very resilient grunge. Most importantly, make sure you secure the dog door when you’re not home. I came back from vacation to a burglarized home - yup, they crawled through the door welcomed by my very friendly Golden. Police told me while dusting for fingerprints (which seemed anachronistic), burglars often check freezers for hidden jewelry or cash. That helped explain why my backyard was full of empty ice cream containers. The crooks tossed it there to keep the dog busy while they burgled. They took a few expensive items I left home because friends recommended not taking valuables to Brazil. Insurance was agreeable and responsive as month by month I discovered more stolen items. They covered everything except two watches. Be aware certain high value possessions require additional coverage.
I quickly had a professional install cameras and other anti-theft tech inside and out. I was the first in the neighborhood burglarized, and that convinced many neighbors security is best installed before, not after a burglary. Many used my installer’s services, and his generous referral rebates paid for most of my security system.
I’m going to build a dog door for Marysue, my Boarder/Aussie mix. I’m in an apartment now and not worried about security for a 9th floor balcony. If anyone has any recommendations about a basic DIY patio sliding glass dog door for someone who does not have a tool shop or a near by lumberyard, I’d appreciate and welcome your advice.
Next time you can rent a lock box at a bank to put valuable things.
Petsafe prefab would probably be your best option. Otherwise you could make one with hand tools, 2x4s and a prefab flappy dog door.
Wow! Another Mr Rain custom special, excellent work!
Why thank you Kleenex!
Mr. Rain you are welcome?
So much better looking than the plastic junk you buy at the store. Lucky pups you have there. I just love your attention to detail Mr. Rain...like my knitting needles! They are fabulous and I hope Heidi has you make her some so she can starting knitting you some socks! LOL Anywho, fantastic job.
It brings me joy to see you like your new needles! I fixed up a 1800's vintage wool spinning wheel and mad her some wood bobbins. She hasn't had time to learn it yet but it is coming after we take care of some other pressing things this year. At some point she might take up knitting, then I will need to make her some. I did make some crochet needles for her of which she won't go back to the store bought ones :)
I wouldn't either ... if I HAD some :/ soon ... VERY SOON :-D
If he made me some, it would certainly make learning to knit more of a priority!
I just decided to try the same thing, for a somewhat larger dog. Thanks for sharing your ideas!
Those dogs are so funny and cute! Awesome and clever.
Thanks SG!
This is great, thank you so much for sharing this! I’m going to build something similar for my dogs and this is giving me a lot of insight on how best to put it together. Thanks again!
Fantastic video! I'm impressed with your skill. Unfortunately now-a-days people wouldn't even think to MAKE something. Rather than building things, money is wasted on 💩 that isn't quality and made NOT TO last.
Your video is detailed, easy to understand for beginners to advanced.
Wow! Great job! Helped me simplify what I was about to make. Love your warm personalities and the verse at the end! Liked and subed. From Murfreesboro TN.
True genius there Pat!
Coming from a genius that means a lot there TrollForge! Thanks!
That is a great project. Wish I would have seen this earlier I would have been using it on 2 of my doors. Maybe if I need one in TX I will get one made up. Thanks for your idea.
You're welcome Marcia! Thanks for watching.
I understand the time it takes to care for doggies. Mr Rain does wonderful work. Funny story....... my cousin has a cat door. One night she was standing in the kitchen just doing something. All of a sudden, a raccoon walks through the cat door, settles up to the cat food, and eats it. Then waddles back out like it's no big deal. We think it's Ben doing that for awhile. Best to be sure WHO walks through your door!!!!😝😝😝😝😝
Raccoons are resourceful critters! Thanks for sharing that, made me chuckle. One night we woke up hearing something out on our back deck...we were harvesting grapes at midnight due to a family of raccoons loading up on grapes and hissing at us!
Great video, excellent ideas for my doggy.
Pat this is absolutely fabulous !!
Thank you very much.
very good with wood! Chewey has the door for 170.00 but still love your more. we just got a lab for my handicap wife and the door will help us too, thanks
$170 seems high for a mass produced, non-custom dog door, but a bargain for door that’s an exact fit for your home and pet. Dog doors, air fryers, Bluetooth and of course dogs are a few of the best things I my life.

One more cool (and vintage) thing... Murphy beds!
Great job Patrick! We can’t let our dog out alone here because of coyotes so a doggie door is out of he question for us. Phil
Hey there Phil, those coyotes might just eliminate the need for a doggie door, I understand the dilemma.
I’d have never even thought to put a doggy door on a sliding door. 🤯 YOU’RE “DOGGONE” GENIUS DAD!!!!
Pickin on the chubbers pup cause her likes Mommas vittles...for shame! 🤭 BAHAHAHAHAHA
Y’all are THE BEST!
Love, hugs and blessings ~The Kid!
Hahaha! Thanks Lisa! Hope you are doing well!
Hahahaha, no slack here Kid, you know that! Hope you're doin' OK!
Sooooo clever!
Thank you for the video. I'm going to make a similar one for our dogs! 🙂
Great video, gave me a bunch of ideas for my door
*Wide Load Test* ... HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! Pat. You NEVER cease to amaze me with your ingenuity!!! It's functional & beautiful & *Wide Load Approved*. :-D I'm wondering if you should post a sign on the outside that says: *No chickens allowed.* ... I know chickens can read, but, I'm not so sure about the RATS.
Love & prayers
Hahahahha! I was thinking some thing similar about the chickens. They do sneak up to the door from time to time, :D
HEY! That wouldn't be such a bad thing .... it would save you a trip to the coop or under the balcony to retrieve eggs. Lends a whole new meaning to *delivering eggs*. ;)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
Y’all are killing me with these comments! 😂🤣😂🤣😂❤️❤️❤️❤️
Good point on delivering the eggs right to my door...thinking the dogs may not like the chickens intruding on their domain though. haha! The chickens keep the dogs in line when it comes to the yard, it is so funny to watch the chickens chase them back up onto the deck, it always makes me laugh. Initially I was worried about the dogs hurting the chickens but it would seem I have nothing to be concerned about!
Good point Kathleen, I should install voice scanning and retinal scanning devices with paw print activation equipment on the doggie door for security.
So cute!
Debbie Bragg thank you!
Both useful and beautiful! I love it! You have 2 of the most adorable doggies😊love and prayers❤👋over☕
Appreciate that Tee. Doggies were driving us in sane opening and shutting doors =)
Mr. Rain our little Miss Gabby had us runnig for the door for 17 years lol!
(Chuckle) little boogers are wearing out the tracks on the door.
Mr. Rain 😁😁gotta love the babies❤
Yep, they bring us joy despite such annoyances, but now my life is just a bit easier thanks to Mr.'s creation! It is SO nice!
Brilliant!
I thought so too and I tell you, this has really been a blessing to me and to the dogs!
Hey Mouse Toes! Thanks! every one in the house is happy about the doggie door two and four legged animals ;)
AWESOME !!!! Now I gotta go get me another dog so I ca have one of those doggie doors !
The door has been a sanity saver!
Sanity saver for SURE! I am so pleased with this beauty!
AWESOME!!
Thanks Mary Ann, this thing has been a real blessing!
Cool! How will you keep raccoons out?
Good question, we haven't had problems with raccoons for a couple years now. If we do, I have a couple ideas. I don't think the dogs would let them in although the raccoon would be a handful for the two dogs :D
Video is not helpful ar all. How many people have a planer? I mean really
What a silly thing to say. Your comment leads one to think that you assume this channel is only supposed to be tailored to you and no one else. This channel is not a one topic channel nor is it meant to only reach one small group of people, that is why we have ALL kinds of videos on MANY topics, most of them dealing with DIY. If you cannot make it yourself, then just go buy one or have someone make it for you.
One could build it without a planer...maybe not you though.
This channel is great,if you don't like it because you don't have a planer, then go on with yourself he did not make this video just for you.you must have been spoiled growing up.that was very rude glad you don't live by me.
