Editor's Note: My edits were all made to keep the video on one, central topic by editing together relevant commentary from many parts of Hasan's streams to create a storyline that is still followable by the viewer. I also edited in commentary of my own in places, in addition to relevant external information that improves the viewing experience. A lot of edits were made for comedy purposes, or to enhance the comedic timing of certain beats, but never to misrepresent Hasan's point of view.

23:00. The concept of building a city, with adequate infrastructure, including transit, recreation, waste management, healthcare facilities, educational services including childcare, retail, maintenance, etc., etc., as opposed to throwing up excessively large, and ruinously expensive, single family suburbs with NO human-scale accessible infrastructure. Not an idea that fits with the typical US smooth-brained pattern of 'the free market', when it comes to urban planning.

    • @sblbb929
      @sblbb929 10 месяцев назад

It's not really city planning though in most cases.
It's local governments evicting rural folks to redevelop the land into urban land, in order to lease it to construction firms because they need quick cash (bc most taxes go to the central gov). These firms then build new housing projects to sell them to home buyers before they're even finished in order to fund the start of even more projects to get even more sales upfront. Why? Because the housing prices keep rising for decades now so chinese people use it as an investment. Alot of these apartments are empty because they're second or third homes, just someone investing their money in order to sell it for a higher price in some years.

The Chinese government is good at planning things like subway stations and newaread of development for a city, but private Chinese business suck at developing stuff independently, especially because they over charge for the real estate after things are built. There are whole malls that are empty despite being in the middle of a vibrant residental areas, because they charge too much for any prospective shop owners to be able to accept. And similarly many rich people build expensive residential neighborhoods in their home towns, which are extremely large, yet are too expensive for the vast majority of their home towns, leading to the buildings being mostly empty, despite million of people living all around them. Business people are kind of stupid everywhere.

Only if you count patents that were literally hacked out of and stolen from other nations existing patents, that the local business has no capacity to actually build because no one understands how the mechanisms work. See China's sub 8 nm computer chip manufacturing for a beautiful example. They have *literally every technology for 3 nm chips patented,* but are struggling to use a hyper inefficient old 10 nm chip tech that they've hacked together to slowly and expensively make 4 nm chips, something the rest of the world has abandoned. They literally have a 2% pass rate (it's normally 70-90%).
Why are they using literally not a single factory using the new tech, the tech Taiwan and even America now are already using, if they have all the patents too? Because no one in the nation actually knows how to make it.
To be fair no one in Taiwan knows how to make them either: they import all of their machines from the Dutch, and as of this year America.
But the point stands. Point to a single technology that China is competitive in actually implementing. Their 5th generation fighters both have the RCS of a 1980's US prototype, and is actually still somehow worse than the 1990's F-117 they recovered and copied the tech from (seriously, imagine reverse engineering a tech for literally 20 years and still failing to match it in practice), their computer production is about on par with 2008 America, which was not at all known for computer chips back then, their water use efficiency, something they literally brag about 'being world leaders in,' is worse than the worst year in US history *in the xxxxing 20's,* and their democracy is nominally decided by 58 people, who strangely keep voting for the guy who gave them all jobs every election.
Like.... how are there China fanboys? Historically, sure, they lead the world in all kinds of different eras, but today they are not doing well. If you look at their real GDP growth they haven't even been keeping up with global inflation since the early 2000's, which explains why despite the '8% gdp growth' their average standard of living has been dropping since then.
As far as quantum computing specifically? Where is the highest memory quantum computer in the world? Which US city is it? What about the second? Oh, another US city? Ok, well what about the other top 10? Oh, still all US? Ok, but what about the next 10, the lower half of the top 20? Oh, still literally all US plus one German city? Umm.... Where is China? Oh... *They literally don't have a single working prototype running right now, at all, across their hundreds of universities?* Umm.... Well.... That's peculiar. Someone should really tell them that they *have more patents than anyone else.*

You didn't go that far then. I have family in China and sure if you're in the city centre of a city that has as many people as some US states, it's nice. Imagine concentrating the entire tax base of California into one downtown. But sometimes just walking off a main road is enough to shatter the illusion. Love the food, but to me it's still strange when we walk past an apple store into a side alley and there is a unsanitary looking restaurant and like random people crouching on buckets and eating infront of a wet beton wall. Never getting used to it.
And don't get me started on my grandma's apartment building. She is a migrant worker so she has no access to local social services and so the family rents her an apartment in the outer ring. Inside of the building looks like an abandoned construction side. Enter her red metal door and it's cozy, always food ready for me, cute wallpapers. But stairs leading up to it is 90s post-soviet russia aesthetics.

That could change overnight, but you can't change culture that fast. Will Chinese people accept a large foreign population or not? I guess we will see. The United States was s successful because of its diverse culture and European allies. China's strongest ally is the United States which threatens its borders for fun I guess and their population is over 90% homogenous. Here's the thing: because China is run by a DOTP instead of the capitalist class, they are perfectly capable of surviving the TRPF without recession. It happened with the USSR during the great depression for instance.

I see both sides of the arguments because i have watched the china show, where we have 2 people from different countries who lived in china for many years, can't remember was it over 2 decades, but basically, they had hopefully and positive view point of china but also negative.
+China has somewhat good public transportation infurstraction
    +good learning structer
    +health care system
    +biggest country when talking manufacturing
    The negatives
    -corrupted to the core
    -tofu buildings
-sometimes absolutely terrible food safety regulations or monitoring.
    -dissapearing instances
    -homelessness
-landscaping is soo bad that they are painting grass and rocks to pass inspectors.
Chinies culture is also very very flawed, guter oil, fake foods, fake drinks, fake baby powder, tofu buildings like i mentioned earlier, half done trains, bridges and the list honestly can just go on.

Even thoe china is rich, the people aren't, there is even child labor happening in there.
So in chinies culture if you can save money from everything to ANYTHING that isn't nailed down like free small packages of salt or ribbons for your packages, everything will be just scapped.
China is kinda the perfect imperfect country, whatever china does well it succeeds with flying colors and everything it sucks at, it can bring a whole apartment building down because they didn't bother to line water pipes to turn off a home in fire.

Sorry, but as someone who sat through 6 semester of macroeconomics because it was mandatory for my degree: Hakim is really off here. Sentiments like "China is indebted to itself so it's fine" are crazy. It's "Fine" to investors because foreign debtors are still getting paid and the worst case scenario (a 2008 Crisis in China) would not ripple across the world because noone else has exposure. It's "Fine" for some guy on wall street. Not for China. Additonally the US is way better equipped to deal with it's debt than China, so comparing nominal totals here is surface level logic. "Ghost towns" are the symptom of a real problem, but not for the reason shapiro mentions. There is a reason why China's central government released it's three red line policy recently.
There is alot more wrong with the video but I hate thate economics so I don't want to open that can of worms. Shapiro isn't right either but it's less dangerous to hallucinate fake fires than to point at a real fire and say it's fine.

Who thinks capitalism is going to fall apart? I thought most leftists think that capitalism will just continue to get worse for more and more people. I’ve never heard people claim that is is going to collapse.. if anything they think it is going to need to be overthrown violently or will be changed internally because people will vote to slowly implement socialism. Am I wrong? Do other countries that are socialist/communist think that capitalism will just collapse? I thought they believed it would just continue but loose in the end to its own faults and become obsolete

If it was a uniform decline it might be good but since it's the result of a lack of births over a long time it's actually extremely bad because that means young, working age adults are becoming less and less. Add to that, the last time China had a huge amount of births was between 1950-70, literally doubling the population from half a billion to a billion in record time. Those people right now are obviously all old....and need even more support from more young people.
China's not a developed country so it doesn't have an established social benefit system to support these people either, so they really need young people and based on this decrease happening already, the situation is worse than we thought even.

China will be fine, most of the old chinese are simplying going to other countries to retire where they will be taken care of
A lot of them come to the US in fact to retire, they retire in the US and can collect SSI, Medicaid, food stamps, they launder the food stamps for cash, many abuse medicaid to get free drugs to sell all while collecting a fat pension from China that they hide from the US government
Or they try to get European citizenship, do the minimum number of fake employment hours to collect a pension
If they can't they can always go to thailand, phillipines to retire
