It's weird how his description of capitalism is so vague... concept of trade was always a thing throughout history. In the past China peaked in economic power closed itself off at some point because they no longer needed products from outside of their country due to their own productive capacity. People have forgotten about the silk road it seems.

By end of Ming dynasty, China could've probably started the industrial revolution if it wasn't for the wars with Japan, Manchu and Tibetan empire which drained it's military, economy, and caused political oppurtunists to try and take seats of power.

Johnny Harris is outright wrong about the post-WW2 economy. The world economy wasn't dollarized at Bretton Woods by the US "and it's allies", it was dollarized by the US unilaterally. The main negotiating partner was Britain, led by Keynes, who advocated instead for a universal, nationless bancor reserve currency that would be controlled by a UN-style committee, not the US unilaterally. It was a power play.
Second, the US emphatically did NOT open trade so that global cheap labor could be hired. That is so, so, so, so, so absolutely 100% the opposite of true. Just flat wrong. Bretton Woods implemented strict capital controls that made exproporiating capital extremely difficult. The entire purpose of this was to force winners TO INVEST AT HOME. It was the 100% polar opposite of what he said, global labor was locked down on purpose so that the poorest in nations like the US would reap the benefits from growth.
That was the single principle reason the middle class and poorest in the west got so rich in the mid 20th century. global trade was relaxed but global CAPITAL was highly restricted. It wasn't until the 1970s that capital controls were loosened, and the 1970s/80s is exactly the time frame that middle class wealth stopped improving.
Johnny Harris is a propagandist, plain and simple.

Great video, but when will Americans begin to understand that individual EU countries DO NOT negotiate their trade (E.g. why Merkel told to Trump, I'm sorry I don't negotiate trade, it's the duty of the EU). The entire customs union acts as one. The visuals in this video make it seem somehow like Germany, France and other EU countries are putting in place their own protectionist and isolationist policies, and tariffs, while they simply cannot do that - it's an exclusive competence of the EU. This was also the reason why Brexit needed to happen BEFORE any trade talks started because EU couldn't have trade talks with its own member state. I'm sorry Johnny, but he is supposed to be a professional and it's been decades since the formation of the EU, it's the world's second largest economy and contributor in trade, so I wish people would finally start presenting this accurately. Also taken that into account at the free trade agreements in the works between EU, Australia and various South-American countries, there is definitely a big player that doesn't follow this US & China-like isolationist approach.
"The European Union (EU) is a customs union, which means that all EU countries are obligated to take the same tariffs and apply the same import restrictions. The EU is therefore represented by the EU Commission in all international trade negotiations and member states cannot negotiate their own trade deals with third countries"

He's a similar liberal to Destiny. As in he thinks that U.S institutions function as stated and as originally intended. They combine this with a dogmatic and uncritical deference to expertise. Any analysis of ulterior motives, material interest, or motivated reasoning is viewed as conspiratorial. They are empiricist, which in a vacuum is great, but in the context of a State; Wherein a ruling class of people use institutions and ideology to maintain their position in society, essentially means that any competent State or ruling class can delay or obfuscate inconvenient information. But these people truly believe the institutions are neutral and objective in pursuit of their stated purpose.
For example, by the metrics that liberals like these use, government atrocities are only not conspiracy theories after the freedom of information process is used decades after the fact.

I feel like it comes down to the power balance between capitalist banks funding US thats using one hand to buy the electronics, oil and other natural resources where there is a clear advantage on the euro-dollar, upheld by the banking system that does have a history of crusading, slavery, white supremacy and a strong anti-communist and anti-socialist agenda enforced through CIA and the global power their military has. AND the other hand to hit those "the west" has labeled as enemies through the war on drugs, war on terror and cold war. That usually are those who have historically suffered opression and keep getting suppressed for things like speaking uncomfortable historical truths about how did this "white" america achieve its overpowered position, or for the great crime of resisting the global agenda it enforces, for cultural of whatever reason.
And in this equation we often see "black" muslims and other non-whites suffering, if not so much from whites-only areas that are, thank god, mainly a historical phantom that is illegal, but we do see the idea every now and then, like in israel being declared jew-only a variation of this racist policy. Then its from the slow progression away from straight slavery towards equality and human rights as laid down by UN after ww2. And we do see this violent exploitation enacted on the uighurs, palestinians, mid eastern people, brazilians, as is the racist legacy of slavery still causing capitalism to operate. And we can see the slow progression when looking at the workers rights in places like Foxconn factories, the mining suppliers in congo etc that are getting better, but are far from the the utopia we desperately need. A world where genders and races are equal without systematic oppression, as the laws demand and are supposed to enforce, if we believe the white europeans will be the savior instead of slaver this time.

In the case of America, our empire is built off of the petro dollar, so switching to renewable will piss off oil companies who have a huge stake in government

People need to remember that trade is not a capitalist concept, trade exists within both communism and socialism. The difference between free market capitalism and a socialist/communist market is that in capitalism the market is meant to be as free as possible and regulate entirely (or almost entirely), whereas in socialist markets the government regulates heavily and has last say when it comes to corporations, markets, currency and distribution (this is exactly what China does). People always act like if you have money that makes you capitalist, but they forget that money and trade existed LONG before capitalism and China actually started doing wide spread international trade centuries before the west.

Anyone with even the most basic knowledge of economics understands that markets and trade predate "capitalism." That said, your example of a "socialist market" is qualitatively the same as any economic system you would describe as being capitalist, that's why it's easy to ridicule an ignoramus like Hasan Piker or your typical leftist comment where something that is well known as something "people need to remember" or "not a lot of people realize." smh

  • @sevilnatas

Is it really that countries like China wanted some of the wealth that capitalism brought or was it that the countries that ruled the world economy demanded that they allow capitalism in if they were going to allow countries like China to participate in the world economic system? Trade and commerce are not antithetical to communism or socialism, it is the ownership and profit distribution that differentiates the two systems. It would work perfectly fine if China developed its industries as state or worker owned companies and traded internationally. Seems like that would look pretty much the same as it does today. So why didn't they go in that direction? Because in the beginning, they were a 3rd world agrarian economy that had starving citizens and very little industrial infrastructure. In order to get the resources they needed to build out that infrastructure and participate in international trade, post soviet union, the west required them to allow capitalist interests into their country. Just look at Vietnam. The French and US, unprovoked, devastated their country, bombed it back to the stone ages, poisoned it with millions of gallons of toxins. Beyond imagination, the Vietnamese are able to beat both western armies and instead of accepting defeat, the US proceeds to go back to war with Vietnam, but this time, not with guns and bombs, but economics. It embargos them, sanctions them, blocks other countries from trading with them. Finally, Vietnam has no option but to capitulate and accept external capitalist internal interests into the country.

I was reading chat and saw a lot of people making excuses for or straight up denying china's authoritarianism (which hasan luckily didn't do) and felt compelled to scream into the void. I want to say that I'm not making any excuses for what any country has done in their ugly pasts, but in the context of the "new economic order" and increasing protectionism I felt it was objectively better for the minor powers on earth to align themselves with the Us-Eu economic order than with china's because *generally speaking* the US and EU abide by international agreements and value national sovereignty while china often doesn't. I meant all this within the current day geopolitical situation, where the US is not actively expanding and has withdrawn out of the middle east. Well I think when Hasan or chatters say China is objectively better, they mean China in general. China doesn’t provoke wars, seek conflict, or interfere in other countries’ internal affairs. And domestically, China has a central-planned economic system that brought China into rapid economic development, eradicated extreme poverty in China, rapid development of infrastructure, etc. And also because of the centralization, enterprises can be effectively regulated and controlled. And the society is relatively more stable, no guns, no drugs. These are a part of the reason why China is better in general. Of course the average living standard in China is not as good as in America, after all China’s GDP is still less than America’s, and China has 1.4 billion population.

    • @hughlind3911

@@harryliu5089 China doesn't interfere in other countries affairs or provoke conflict. India, Bhutan, Nepal, Japan, Taiwan would disagree. Also China definitely does interfere with other countries internal affairs. US elections have reportedly been subject to Chinese interference. And Chinese spies were recently arrested in the UK.
On econ stuff I can see those being benefits but China is still a lot poorer and quite unequal as well, so I think you'd have to judge when China is closer to the US in terms of per capita income.

    • @harryliu5089
      @harryliu5089 11 дней назад +2

@@hughlind3911 1. Do you know what does “provoke wars, seek conflict, or interfere in other countries’ internal conflict” means? Taiwan IS a part of China, that’s an international agreement. And the conflict between China and India is called “Territorial disputes”. Read what I wrote again, did I say “there isn’t any conflict”? China doesn’t seek conflict, but on the issue of national sovereignty, no country will give its historically recognized territory to another country. Do you understand? And when you talk about “conflict with Japan” or “China interfered America election”, that just proves you’re brainwashed by western media. Go do your own research without western media, then you’ll know there’s “tension” between China and Japan all because of Taiwan, which is not considered an independent nation whatsoever.
      2. I already said the average living standard in China isn’t as good as America’s. But that’s just one aspect. America is the richest nation throughout history, you can’t just point at that and say: “look America is better”. As the richest nation throughout history, American citizens don’t have free healthcare, or free education, or developed infrastructure, and there isn’t any policy to solve homelessness, or housing crisis, or gun violence, or drugs, or corporate regulation, etc. THAT is abject failure. PRC on the other hand, was founded less than eighty years ago, just got devastated by war, and was very poor. And without allies, without anything like Marshall Plan, 60 years later started to compete with America on the global stage. That’s why I said “China is better in general”

I really don't understand why Hasan doesn't move away from America if he thinks it's the worst country ever. You think he'd actually mean what he says with this stuff.

Maybe because he sees the potential America has and has criticism on how it could improve? I don’t understand your quitter mentality

@hasanabihead He frequently insults us and tells us that we're stupid drones and that all western media, (including local media, for some strange reason), is evil. If he wants to coalition build, he's doing a piss poor job of getting anyone on his side except palestinian nationalists/islamofacists, tankies, and red fascists.

I also think America sucks but I’m staying here because of its ability geography to survive climate change and like my migrant Cambodian uncle who’s home was destroyed in the Vietnamese war for simply being located next to the country, I don’t think I want to know that the American imperial boot tastes like

When did Johnny say "America bad"? Even in his video on the coups America did to other nations, he strolled right past Chile as if it never happened, and he pretended the coup against Gaddafi in Libya was done to protect protesters.
